Here are 5 takeaways from this week’s episode of WWE SmackDown:
AJ Styles Challenged Bryan To A Title Match Tonight
WWE Champion AJ Styles kicked off this week’s show. It was announced earlier today that Daniel Bryan will not be traveling to Saudi Arabia for WWE Crown Jewel.
AJ said that he needed to get something off of his chest and called Daniel Bryan down to the ring. Styles apologized for what happened last week during their match against The Usos. Bryan noted that there was no need to apologize because they are both fighting for the same prize.
Bryan told Styles that he has a ton of respect for him and a competitor. Daniel added that all he sees when he looks at AJ is the WWE Championship. Daniel Bryan said that it was nothing personal, but he is going to take the WWE Championship from him this Friday at Crown Jewel.
Styles admitted that he lied to Bryan last week and that Pele Kick was meant for him. Bryan pretended to be shocked and said that he felt like hitting AJ on purpose right now. AJ got in Bryan’s face and dared him to do it. AJ then challenged Bryan to the match right now and the crowd erupted.
SmackDown Commissioner Shane McMahon interrupted and noted that we have all seen this before and the match never seems to transpire. Shane made the match official and called for a referee to come down to the ring right now.

Bryan sent AJ to the ring apron and hit him with a series of kicks to the midsection. Styles caught one of the kicks and hit Bryan with another Dragon Screw on the apron. AJ went for the Phenomenal Forearm but Daniel countered into an Arm Bar in the middle of the ring.
Daniel then transitioned into the Yes Lock in the middle of the ring. AJ countered into a great Styles Clash and then locked in the Calf Crusher in the middle of the ring. Bryan reached for the ropes but couldn’t make it and had no choice but to tap out. AJ Styles is still the WWE Champion. After the match, Styles and Bryan shook hands and shared a hug.
Samoa Joe came out of nowhere and attacked Styles from behind. Joe locked in the Coquina Clutch and then Bryan broke it up. Joe went after Bryan’s knee and then applied the Coquina Clutch to Daniel in the middle of the ring. Joe then raised the WWE Championship to a chorus of boos from the crowd.
