The November 15th, 2019 episode of WWE Friday Night SmackDown aired live from the Wells Fargo Arena in Philadelphia. In addition to the takeaways below, Bray Wyatt revealed a blue Universal Championship during an episode of Firefly Funhouse.
Here are 5 takeaways from this week’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown:
King Corbin Continued To Mock Roman Reigns
King Corbin kicked off the show and was carried to the ring in a throne. Roode and Ziggler were already in the ring.
Corbin claimed that Roman Reigns is a shell of the man he once was. King Corbin stated that SmackDown is his kingdom and was no longer Reigns’ yard. Corbin claimed that Shorty G and Ali shouldn’t be on Team SmackDown and as the captain he wanted to make them earn it.
King Corbin called the Big Dog down to the ring and a mascot came down to the ring. A version of Reigns’ theme with puppy barks was played as Corbin, Ziggler, and Roode uproariously laughed in the ring.
This was terrible, embarrassing, and not even remotely funny. The best thing I can say about this is that at least Corbin didn’t talk about Roman’s excrement this week.
Shorty G & Ali Are Still On Team SmackDown
Ali and Shorty G squared off against Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode tonight on SmackDown. King Corbin and the mascot were ringside for the match. The winners of the match will join Team SmackDown for Survivor Series.
Corbin got involved and hit Ali with a cheap shot. Roman Reigns came down to the ring as Michael Cole shouted “here comes the Big Dog!”. Reigns chased Corbin around as Cole made more dog jokes before SmackDown went to a break.
When SmackDown returned, Reigns was cheering Shorty G on but Roode and Dolph hit a Spinebuster/ Zig Zag combo. Dolph went for the cover but Ali broke it up at two. Shorty G applied an Ankle Lock to Dolph but Robert Roode broke it up before he tapped out.
Reigns hit Corbin with a Drive By and then Ali hit Roode with a Suicide Dive. Roman leveled Corbin with a Spear and posed for the crowd. Shorty G hit Dolph with a German Suplex and Ali followed it up with a 450 Splash for the pinfall victory.
Undisputed Era Invaded SmackDown
New Day defended their Tag Team Championships against The Revival tonight on SmackDown. Big E and Kofi Kingston defeated The Revival last week on SmackDown to win the titles.
Dawson and Wilder dominated the match early and isolated Kingston in the corner. Kofi tried to leap across the ring but Wilder caught him and connected with a Powerslam as SmackDown went to a commercial break.
When SmackDown returned, Kingston finally was able to tag out and Big E hit Wilder with a couple of Belly to Belly Suplexes. Big E connected with a Uranage and went for the cover but Dawson kicked out.
Wilder tagged in and planted Big E with a Tornado DDT for a near fall. Both superstars then took each other out with a Clothesline in the middle of the ring. Kofi and Dawson tagged and Kingston hit a Dropkick off the top rope.
Kofi sent The Revival out of the ring and leaped onto them. Back in the ring, Big E tagged in and set up for the Midnight Hour but Dash broke it up. Dawson hit Big E with a DDT for a near fall.
Big E sent The Revival out of the ring and Kingston leaped onto them again but Dash and Wilder caught him. They slammed Kingston into the ring post and then planted Big E on the announce table. The Revival then hit the Shatter Machine and went for the cover but Kingston broke it up.
Undisputed Era hopped over the barricade and attacked New Day to end the match in DQ. Undisputed Era took out The Revival and then retreated through the crowd as the SmackDown locker room rushed the ring.
The Revival and New Day put on an entertaining match tonight. The inclusion of NXT to Survivor Series has made the PPV much more exciting. Several of the matches on the card have the potential to steal the show and if they all deliver, Survivor Series could be an excellent show.
SmackDown’s Women’s Division Defeated Team NXT
Nikki Cross once again battled SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley tonight. Nikki Cross would qualify for Team SmackDown at Survivor Series if she won the match. Before the match, Bayley and Sasha Banks were interviewed backstage. Bayley boasted about showing up on RAW and SmackDown to beat down Becky Lynch and Shayna Baszler. Sasha Banks vowed to not interfere in the match tonight so Bayley could prove how dominant she is.
Cross knocked Bayley out of the ring and went after her but the SmackDown Women’s Champ launched her into the steel steps. NXT Women’s Champion Shayna Baszler hopped over the barricade but Bayley retreated into the crowd. Dakota Kai, Tegan Nox, Rhea Ripley, and Mia Yim showed up and threw Bayley back over the barricade. The NXT and SmackDown women’s locker rooms then brawled in the ring. The NXT women’s locker room then retreated through the crowd. Banks grabbed a microphone and challenged them to a 4 vs. 4 match right now.
Cross, Carmella, Dana Brooke, and Nikki Cross then battled Mia Yim, Rhea Ripley, Tegan Nox, and Dakota Kai. Nox stomped on Carmella and tagged Kai in. Nox went for a cover even though she had tagged out and the referee sent her to the apron. Tegan tagged back in and continued to beat Carmella down in the corner.
Sasha Banks tagged in and slammed Nox to the canvas. Nox went for a roll-up but Banks kicked out at two. Rhea Ripley tagged in and started trash talking with Sasha. Banks slapped Rhea in the face and went for a DDT but Ripley countered with a powerful Suplex. Sasha locked in the Bank Statement but Rhea quickly escaped.
Everyone got into the ring and started shoving each other as SmackDown went to a commercial break. When SmackDown returned, Ripley and Nikki Cross were battling in the ring. Nikki hit a Crossbody and followed it up with a Splash int he corner. Dakota tagged in and Nikki greeted her with a Belly to Back Suplex.
Dana Brooke hit Rhea with an elbow drop but Ripley shrugged it off and hit a massive Dropkick. Banks sent Rhea to the outside and turned around into a boot to the face from Kai. Nikki planted Dakota with the Swinging Neckbreaker for the pinfall victory. The brawl broke out once again and Team NXT retreated through the crowd.
Daniel Bryan Will Face Bray Wyatt For The Universal Championship At Survivor Series
Sami Zayn once again tried to recruit Daniel Bryan to his group with Nakamura and Cesaro tonight on SmackDown. Bryan pointed out that Sami Zayn ran away when The Fiend attacked him last week and declined their offer. Bryan suggested that Sami try to recruit Braun Strowman insteand and walked away. Zayn said that they were poets and artists in the ring and Braun is just big and strong. Strowman was then shown behind Sami and Zayn wound up running away from him.
Daniel Bryan was a guest on Miz TV in the final segment of the night. The Miz asked Bryan why he thought The Fiend attacked him last week and Daniel declined to answer. The Miz stated that nobody has any idea who Bryan is anymore and that The Fiend sees that Daniel is washed up.
Bryan got up and said that he was quiet because Miz TV sucks. Daniel told Miz that he was right and that he is not the Daniel Bryan he was 10-years ago. Bryan noted that he still has the passion that led him to overcome the odds to main event WrestleMania. The Miz tried to chime in and Bryan shouted at him to shut his mouth.
Daniel told Miz that he doesn’t understand the mental instability he has combined with this kind of passion, but Bray Wyatt does understand because he is unstable as well. Wyatt interrupted in the Firefly Funhouse and said it was very rude to speak about another person when they are not present.
Wyatt suggested that The Fiend might have attacked Bryan to remind him of what he did in the past. Bray opened up a toy box and pulled out the blue Universal Championship. Wyatt asked Daniel if he wanted to play and all he had to do was say the magical word.
Bryan said no and the puppets in the Firefly Funhouse all said yes. Daniel told Wyatt that he was not a puppet and was not going to come back there. Bryan challenged Wyatt to a match for the Universal Championship and Bray answered with the “Yes!” chant. Bray’s chant got very intense towards the end and The Miz announced the match for Survivor Series.
I thought that this segment was great and I’m looking forward to the Universal Championship match at Survivor Series. I would have liked to see this feud develop over a few more episodes of SmackDown but it still should be an great match. Aside from the opening segment, this week’s episode of SmackDown was a very entertaining show and did a great job of hyping up Survivor Series.
