5 Takeaways From WWE SmackDown (11/7)
WWE SmackDown

The November 7th episode of WWE SmackDown was taped in Manchester, England. Here are 5 takeaways from this week’s SmackDown:

Owens & Zayn Are Bitter About Not Being On Team SmackDown

SmackDown Commissioner Shane McMahon kicked off this week’s episode of SmackDown and stated that he will get his revenge on Kurt Angle for allowing Daniel Bryan’s attack to happen on RAW last week. Shane added that Daniel Bryan will make his return next week. Shane then called New Day down to the ring.

Shane complimented New Day and the four started dancing in the ring. Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn came down to the entrance ramp. Owens said that was the stupidest and most painful thing he has ever seen. Zayn said that Shane McMahon is not cool and that he should never dance again.

New Day then poked fun at Zayn’s entrance dance. Zayn stated that he and Owens are men of honor and that is why they didn’t take part in the RAW invasion. Owens said it was a crime that they needed to have qualifying matches to join Team SmackDown. New Day poked fun at Sami’s appearance and Zayn started fake laughing. Zayn said that it is going to be funny when RAW defeats SmackDown at Survivor Series and Shane McMahon is to blame. Shane announced that Zayn will face Kofi Kingston next.

Kingston and Zayn went back and forth before SmackDown went to a commercial break. When SmackDown returned, Kofi Clotheslined Zayn out of the the ring and then bounced off the top rope and flipped onto Sami outside the ring. Back in the ring, Kofi hit the SOS for a two count. Kofi went for the Trouble in Paradise but Zayn countered it into a Blue Thunder Bomb for a two count. Kofi then hit a Crossbody onto Sami Zayn and pinned him for the victory. Owens attacked Kofi after the match, but retreated once Woods and Big E got in the ring.

I’ve said it a few times, but Sami Zayn his terrific as a heel. His ridiculous high-step entrance tonight was hilarious.

There are tons of variables in play for the men’s 5v5 match at Survivor Series and I cannot wait for that match. Kane could show up and attack Braun Strowman and screw things up for Team RAW. Owens and Zayn could get involved and cost Team SmackDown the match. Kurt Angle needs Team RAW to win so that he can remain the RAW GM. He also added his storyline son, Jason Jordan, to the match as the final member of Team RAW. I feel like we in store for a wild finish at Survivor Series and I’m looking forward to it.

Rusev Will Not Be On Team SmackDown At Survivor Series

Rusev faced Randy Orton tonight for an opportunity to become the final member of Team SmackDown. Orton went for an RKO early but Rusev blocked it and beat Orton down as SmackDown went to a commercial break. When SmackDown returned, Rusev was still in control of the match.

Rusev began to get frustrated because he couldn’t put Orton away. The crowd then started to get behind Rusev, so naturally he was hit with an RKO out of nowhere and lost the match.

Rusev cannot catch a break. He now is officially off Team SmackDown for Survivor Series and it doesn’t look like he will have a role at Survivor Series. I can’t figure out why WWE doesn’t build Rusev up at all. In my opinion, Rusev is the perfect midcard Champion. He is solid in the ring and occasionally cuts entertaining promos.

Becky Lynch Embarrassed James Ellsworth

Before their match, James Ellsworth was looking for Carmella backstage. Becky Lynch confronted him about their match tonight. Ellsworth then proceeded to cut a promo bashing women in general and said that he was going to win the match easily tonight. Becky said that those were some ballsy words from Ellsworth, given the fact that he has no balls.

Becky tried to lock Ellsworth in the Dis-Arm-Her right when the bell rang. Ellsworth then spend the next few minutes trying to avoid Becky. Ellsworth then shoved Becky out of the ring and started posing like an idiot in the ring. Becky climbed to the top rope and connected with a Dropkick.

Becky then followed it up with an Atomic Drop and an Exploder Suplex that sent Ellsworth out of the ring. Ellsworth tried to leave but the SmackDown women’s division threw him back in the ring. Ellsworth tried to call for a truce and hugged Becky Lynch. Becky quickly applied the Dis-Arm-Her for the submission victory. Carmella then booted Ellsworth in the face and exited the ring.

Tough night for James “Big Hog” Ellsworth. Not only did he lose to Becky Lynch, he also got his face caved in by Carmella. It is about damn time because Ellsworth has been doing absolutely nothing to help Carmella’s character. I wouldn’t be against not seeing Ellsworth on SmackDown for some time, but Ellsworth and his ridiculous chin will probably show up next Tuesday night. Shane McMahon also informed Natalya that she will be defending her SmackDown Women’s Championship next week against Charlotte.

The Usos Retained Their Titles In Bizarre Fashion

The Usos cut a promo on Gable and Benjamin before the match. The Usos then attacked them before the SmackDown Tag Team Championship match started. SmackDown then went to a commercial break. When SmackDown returned, The Usos were in control of the match and had Gable isolated in the ring.

Gable was able to tag in Benjamin and he planted Jey Uso with a Spinebuster. Jey Uso was knocked outside the ring and Gable took out his knee with a chop block. Gable then crawled under the ring. Shelton Benjamin stood in the ring and simply let Jey Uso get counted out. Gable and Benjamin won the match via count-out, but The Usos retained their SmackDown Tag Team Championships.

I guess Gable and Benjamin are heels now that simply don’t care about winning the SmackDown Tag Team Championships. The Usos will now go on to face The Bar at Survivor Series. I would have preferred if WWE just held off on this match until after Survivor Series. The finish to this match just didn’t make any sense to me. I guess we will see what happens next week in this feud, but I’m not a fan of Gable and Benjamin just punting away a shot at the titles.

AJ Styles Is Once Again WWE Champion

The crowd was heavily behind AJ Styles during this match. Mahal showed off his strength in the beginning of the match and launched AJ out of the ring as SmackDown went to a commercial break. When SmackDown returned, Jinder Mahal was still in control of the match and had AJ in a Chin Lock. AJ broke free and connected with a Dropkick that knocked Mahal out of the ring.

Jinder tried to get back into the ring but caught a forearm to the face instead. Mahal then tripped up AJ on the ring apron and Styles fell face-first onto the ring apron. AJ tried to leap off the barricade but Mahal caught him and slammed Styles onto the announce table. The action returned to the ring and Mahal stomped on Styles a few times. Jinder slowed the match down once again and applied an Arm Bar. AJ broke free but Mahal immediately slammed him to the mat.

AJ finally fought back and leveled Mahal with a Clothesline. Styles then hit an Ushigoroshi for a two count. Jinder planted AJ face-first into the mat for a two count. AJ locked in the Calf Crusher on Mahal in the middle of the ring. Jinder quickly broke the hold by slamming Styles’ head into the canvas. Styles went for the Calf Crusher again but Mahal quickly grabbed the ropes to break the hold.

Jinder connected with a massive Clothesline and went for the cover but AJ kicked out at two. Mahal charged at AJ but Styles ducked and Mahal tumbled out of the ring. Styles leaped out of the ring and connected with the Phenomenal Forearm. AJ brought Jinder back in the ring and hit the springboard 450 Splash. The Singh Brothers dragged Mahal out of the ring.

Styles then took out both the Singh Brothers and then went for the Phenomenal Forearm but Mahal countered it into the Khallas. Mahal went for the cover but AJ got his foot on the ropes. The entire crowd started chanting “yes!” as the match continued. Jinder perched AJ up on the top rope and went for the Khallas but Styles blocked it and knocked Mahal off the turnbuckle. AJ then connected with the Phenomenal Forearm for the pinfall victory. After the match, Jinder Mahal attacked the Singh Brothers as AJ Styles celebrated with the WWE Championship.

The nightmare is over! Jinder Mahal is no longer WWE Champion thanks to AJ Styles. AJ will now go on to face Brock Lesnar at Survivor Series in a match that doesn’t even need a built at all. Mahal will get his rematch for the title but hopefully not until after Survivor Series. I also sincerely hope that Mahal loses his rematch in quick fashion and he falls back down the card. What a glorious day.
