This week’s episode of WWE SmackDown took place in the US Bank Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio. It was the final episode of SmackDown before WWE Clash of Champions this Sunday. Here are five takeaways from this week’s show:
Juan Francisco de Coronado’s Scream Stole The Show
The Bludgeon Brothers dominated tonight on SmackDown when they faced Colin Delaney and Juan Francisco de Coranado. Delaney used to wrestle in WWE under it’s ECW brand and Coranado is Chikara’s Grand Champion.
During the match, Coranado was brutally slammed to the canvas. He let out an extremely high pitched scream while falling to the mat. Corey Graves couldn’t stop laughing after the spot. Harper and Rowan cruised to another easy victory and will face Breezango at Clash of Champions this Sunday.
That scream was the best part of Smackdown so far tonight #SDLive

AJ Styles Wasn’t Buying What The Singh Brothers Were Selling
WWE Champion AJ Styles kicked off this week’s episode of WWE SmackDown. Styles said that he hasn’t been able to sleep because he cannot stop thinking about defending his title against Jinder Mahal at Clash of Champions this Sunday. Styles said that Mahal will do anything to get the WWE Championship back at the PPV.
The Singh Brothers came down to the entrance ramp. Samir and Sunil apologized for the interruption and rolled footage of Jinder Mahal beating them down two weeks ago. Styles said that he felt sorry for the Singh Brothers and asked them come down to the ring to hug it out. AJ shared a hug with Samir and Sunil and the Singh Brothers thanked Styles for his support.
The Singh Brothers offered to be in AJ’s corner at Clash of Champions. Samir and Sunil called Mahal a disgrace to the 1.3 billion people India. AJ asked why the Singh Brothers were by Mahal’s side this past weekend in India. The Singh Brothers started arguing with each other and still said that they were done with Jinder Mahal.
Jinder Mahal then angrily marched down to the entrance ramp. Styles called the Singh Brothers “dingleberries” and then added that they suck. Styles then beat them both down and threw the Singh Brothers out of the ring. Styles dared Mahal to come into the ring and he hopped on the ring apron. Mahal told Styles that the WWE Championship is his property as the crowd chanted “Jinder sucks!”. One burly man chanted “I love you Jinder!” as Mahal hopped off the ring apron and checked on Samir and Sunil. AJ then raised the WWE Championship in the ring as Mahal and the Singhs retreated.
Later on SmackDown, Jinder Mahal attacked AJ Styles backstage while he was being interviewed. Mahal vowed to take the title away from AJ Styles this Sunday.
AJ Styles will now defend the WWE Championship against Jinder Mahal at Clash of Champions this Sunday in Boston. I’m sure AJ Styles will have to deal with some outside interference during the match, but I cannot imagine that WWE would put the title back on Mahal.
The Lumberjacks Are Not On the Same Page Heading Into Clash Of Champions
Charlotte faced Ruby Riott tonight on SmackDown. Natalya joined commentary for the match. Charlotte will defend her SmackDown Women’s Championship in a Lumberjack match against Natalya at Clash of Champions this Sunday.
Charlotte controlled the match early and knocked Ruby Riott out of the ring. Riott regrouped with Liv Morgan and Sarah Logan ringside before getting back into the ring. Riott took control during the break and knocked Charlotte to the canvas. Ruby hit a series of punches to Charlotte’s face and then brought Charlotte back to her feet by her hair. Riott slammed Charlotte’s face into the second turnbuckle and then applied an Arm Bar in the ring. Charlotte escaped for a moment but Riott quickly applied a Chin Lock in the center of the ring.
When SmackDown returned from the break, Charlotte had escaped the hold and knocked Riott out of the ring. Natalya started taunting Charlotte from behind and Charlotte punched her in the face. Charlotte then booted Liv Morgan and Sarah Logan but Natalya was back up by then and leveled her with a Clothesline. Ruby Riott was then disqualified.
The Riott Squad brought Charlotte back into the ring and stomped on her for a minute. The trio tossed Charlotte out of the ring and then launched her into the steel steps and the barricade surrounding the ring. The Riott Squad set up the steel steps on Charlotte like they did to Naomi a few weeks back.
Naomi’s music hit and Naomi sprinted to the ring. Naomi hit Logan and Morgan with a Dropkick and then leveled Riott with the Rear View. The Riott Squad retreated up the entrance ramp, only to be attacked by Lana, Tamina and Carmella from behind. The segment concluded with the seven Lumberjacks at odds heading into the SmackDown Women’s Championship Lumberjack match this Sunday at Clash of Champions.

I would be surprised if Charlotte lost the title at Clash of Champions this Sunday. If it were to happen, it would most likely be due to an attack from the Riott Squad.
Bobby Roode Delivered A Glorious Message To Corbin & Ziggler
Baron Corbin faced Dolph Ziggler tonight on SmackDown while Bobby Roode was on commentary. Baron Corbin will defend his United States Championship against Roode and Ziggler in a Triple Threat match this Sunday at Clash of Champions.
Corbin charged at Ziggler but Dolph got out of the way and Corbin crashed into the ring post. Roode then excused himself from the announce table and hopped in the ring. Roode then planted Ziggler and Corbin with a Glorious DDT. Roode shouted “I’m going to be the next US Champ!” and then posed in the ring as Corbin and Ziggler were laid out on the canvas.
Take a good look, @BaronCorbinWWE and @HEELZiggler…@REALBobbyRoode intends to be the next GLORIOUS #USChampion this Sunday at #WWEClash of Champions! pic.twitter.com/LPYtghzaR0

I’d like to see Bobby Roode as a heel champion on the main roster. If Roode wins the title and continues to be the same character every week, there really isn’t anything to be excited about. Baron Corbin has done nothing with the title and the ship has sailed on Ziggler being a big star in WWE. I don’t see any reason for the WWE to put the US Title on Dolph Ziggler at this time.
Daniel Bryan & Shane McMahon Will Be Both Be Referees At Clash Of Champions
Daniel Bryan was on the phone backstage with Shane McMahon. Bryan assured McMahon that he will be on commentary during the main event between Kevin Owens and Shinsuke Nakamura tonight to make sure that nothing goes wrong. Sami Zayn and Owens appeared wearing “Yep” shirts in reference to Daniel Bryan’s Yes Movement back in the day. Sami and Owens had been handing out flyers earlier in the evening trying to get Shane McMahon removed as SmackDown’s commissioner. Sami and Kevin left Daniel a flyer and walked away. Bryan looked at the occupy SmackDown flyer as the segment ended.

At the beginning of the second hour of SmackDown, Owens and Zayn made their way dwn to the ring. Zayn said that they stood together united in the name of change. Sami rolled footage of Owens being handcuffed to the ropes last week as Zayn faced Randy Orton. Owens claimed that Shane McMahon was the worst McMahon of them all. Sami and Owens called down everyone from . the back to come down to the ring for the Yep! Movement.
SmackDown GM Daniel Bryan came down to the ring and joined Owens and Zayn in the ring. Daniel Bryan asked what Owens and Zayn were doing and Owens responded that Daniel Bryan should know exactly what they are doing. Owens added that they have been treated unfairly like Daniel Bryan was in the past. Bryan said that they are nothing like him because the Yes! Movement was about the fans and not about himself.
Bryan stated that it was about what the WWE Universe wanted and what they deserved. Sami said that this is similar, it is just what he and Owens want and deserve. Zayn said that they worked on the indies for years to get to WWE and Shane McMahon wants to take it away just like that. Bryan said that he has an agreement with Shane McMahon that they will always have each other’s back. Daniel then announced that he will be the second guest referee at Clash of Champions. Owens and Zayn chanted “Yes!” as Daniel Bryan walked away.
YES! YES! YES! @FightOwensFight and @SamiZayn seem to be taking @WWEDanielBryan's #WWEClash announcement VERY well! #SDLive #OccupySmackDown pic.twitter.com/IlKHtNAu99

Orton and Shinsuke Nakamura were interviewed before the main event on SmackDown. Orton said that he wasn’t going to let Daniel Bryan and Shane McMahon get in their way of making sure that Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens lose their jobs this Sunday night. Nakamura was then asked if he agreed with Orton’s sentiments and Shinsuke simply said “yep”.
Nakamura and Orton will face Zayn and Owens this Sunday at Clash of Champions. Both Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan will be special referees for the match. If Owens and Zayn lose, they will be fired from WWE.
"This Sunday, my partner and I will do EVERYBODY a favor when we make sure those two idiots lose their jobs!" @RandyOrton is all confidence ahead of #WWEClash. #SDLive @ShinsukeN @FightOwensFight @SamiZayn pic.twitter.com/lHu3xkenax

Owens and Nakamura faced off in the SmackDown main event as Daniel Bryan was on commentary. Randy Orton and Sami Zayn were ringside for the match. Bryan said that he related to Owens and Zayn because of their time on the independent wrestling scene and how they struggled to make it to WWE. Bryan stated that he hasn’t spoken to Shane McMahon since he announced he will be the second referee in the match between Zayn & Owens versus Nakamura & Orton at Clash of Champions this Sunday.
Owens controlled the match early and slammed Nakamura into the ring apron several times. Owens brought Nakamura back to the ring and applied a Chin Lock. Shinsuke broke free but Owens beat him down in the corner. Owens then launched Nakamura into the barricade outside the ring as SmackDown went to a commercial break.
When SmackDown returned, Nakamura connected with a kick that knocked Owens to the mat as Byron Saxton and Daniel Bryan argued on commentary. Saxton couldn’t figure out why Daniel Bryan wanted to appoint himself as a referee in the match on Sunday. Bryan continued to say that he just wanted to make sure that it was a fair match. Saxton stated that Bryan only wanted to referee the match because he doesn’t trust Shane McMahon.
Nakamura and Owens battled on the top turnbuckle. Owens knocked Nakamura to the mat and went for a Senton but Shinsuke got his knees up. Owens accidentally struck the referee and Daniel Bryan got out of his seat. Bryan ripped off the referee’s shirt and put it on. Nakamura connected with a kick and went for the cover and Bryan slid into the ring and refereed the match.
Owens kicked out and Zayn got in Bryan’s face. Orton knocked him Zayn out of the ring. Sami then hopped back up on the ring apron and Nakamura was distracted by him. Owens then planted Nakamura with the Pop-Up Powerbomb for the victory. Byron Saxton insisted that Daniel Bryan was out to screw Shinsuke Nakamura and Randy Orton at Clash of Champions.
Owens and Zayn were interviewed on the entrance ramp. Owens said that Shane McMahon, Randy Orton and Shinsuke Nakamura will not take this away from them at Clash of Champions. Owens added that he and Zayn are the best in WWE and started a “yep!” chant to close the show.
"The bottom line is, we are the absolute BEST, not just on #SDLive, but in the entire @WWE! YEP! YEP! YEP! YEP! YEP!" – @FightOwensFight #WWEClash @SamiZayn @WWEDanielBryan @RandyOrton @ShinsukeN pic.twitter.com/s2fFx2fjlL

This storyline continues to be entertaining and I’m looking forward to seeing what happens this Sunday at Clash of Champions. The addition of Daniel Bryan to the match as the second referee could make things extremely chaotic on Sunday. The rest of Clash of Champion’s card isn’t all that interesting, but this storyline is interesting enough that it will get a lot of people to tune in just to see how it plays out.
