The May 28th episode of WWE SmackDown aired live from BOK Center in Tulsa, OK. Here are 5 takeaways from this week’s show:

Kofi Kingston Outlasted Kevin Owens

Kevin Owens came down to the ring to kick of this week’s show. Owens stated that he was going to have an episode of The Kevin Owens Show tonight but wasn’t in the mood after spending the day in Oklahoma.

Owens then ranted about WWE Champion Kofi Kington and claimed that he had nothing to do with the attack on Big E last week. Kingston interrupted and challenged Owens to match. Kofi mentioned that he was not 100% due to the recent attacks from Dolph Ziggler.

Owens started off the match in control and the action spilled out of the ring. Kofi battled back and hit SOS for a near fall. Owens connected with a Frog Splash for a near fall.

Kingston went for a Superplex but Owens blocked it and headbutted him to the canvas. Owens connected with a Senton off the top rope but the WWE Champion kicked out at two. Kingston hit Trouble in Paradise out of nowhere for the pinfall victory as Dolph Ziggler was shown watching the match backstage.

Heavy Machinery Confronted The SmackDown Tag Team Champions

Heavy Machinery

SmackDown Tag Team Champions Daniel Bryan and Rowan cut a promo on the tag team division. Bryan said that the tag team division in WWE is a joke, but they are not jokes.

They vowed to become the greatest tag team of all time and that the dedicate their lives to saving this planet. Bryan scolded the crowd for spending their Memorial Day eating meat and said that Oklahoma is a leader deep oil drilling, which causes earthquakes.

Heavy Machinery interrupted and made their way to the ring. Tucker Knight said that it was time for Heavy Machinery to get down to business and Otis shouted that they wanted the SmackDown Tag Team Championships. Bryan accepted the challenge but said that they will not have the match in Oklahoma.

Daniel Bryan was correct when he said WWE’s tag team division is a joke. The “new” Daniel Bryan remains very entertaining as a character and I hope that he and Rowan can help the tag team division. Heavy Machinery is a great team, but WWE has done absolutely nothing with them since calling up them up to the main roster, so the majority of fans probably has no idea who they are.

Elias Captured His First Championship In WWE

Elias 24/7 Champion

Shane McMahon, Elias, and Drew McIntyre came down to the ring for “Shane McMahon Appreciation Night”.

Shane demanded that Greg Hamilton introduce him as the best in the world before the segment began. Shane claimed that Drew McIntyre came up with the idea of “Shane McMahon Appreciate Night” and was hesitant at first because he doesn’t consider himself a hero.

He added that he enjoys his life and is a humble man. Shane added that he enjoys putting smiles on everyone’s faces and rolled a highlight video of his own career.

Shane McMahon complimented the extremely talented Kevin Dunn for putting that video package together. He then went on a rant about Roman Reigns and vowed to beat some respect into him at Super ShowDown.

Elias chimed in and said that he wrote Shane McMahon a song. Elias sang that Shane was the best man that he has ever seen. 24/7 Champion R-Truth then defeated Drake Maverick in the middle of the ring to retain the title. Shane, McIntyre, and Elias then beat R-Truth down. McIntyre hit R-Truth with the Claymore Kick and Elias pinned him to become the new 24/7 Champion.

Shane then announced that McIntyre and Elias will face Roman Reigns and R-Truth later tonight. McMahon added that he is temporarily suspending the 24/7 Championship rules until after the main event is over.

It would be nice to see Drew McIntyre in an important role in WWE, instead of being placed in random stables that never last. The 24/7 Championship has already become boring in my opinion. It is just superstars running around backstage and interrupting segments.

Charlotte Inadvertently Cost Lacey Evans A Victory

Lacey Evans and Charlotte Flair enjoyed some tea together backstage during this week’s episode of SmackDown. Evans vowed to send Bayley back to the kid’s table tonight and Charlotte said that she could drink some tea to that. SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley then squared off against Lacey Evans. Charlotte Flair joined commentary for the match.

Bayley went for the cover early but Evans kicked out and slammed Bayley to the canvas. Bayley battled back with a Crossbody with a near fall. Evans sent Bayley to the corner and connected with a Bronco Buster for a two count.

Bayley knocked Evans to the outside and then hit her with a Dropkick. Bayley followed it up with a Clothesline and got in Charlotte’s face. Bayley threw Evans into the ring and blasted Flair in the face. Evans rolled up Bayley but the referee was distracted by Flair. Bayley capitalized on the distraction and rolled up Evans for the victory.

After the match, Lacey tried to attack Charlotte but Flair hit her with a kick to the face. Bayley smiled on the entrance ramp as referees separated Flair and Evans.

R-Truth Recaptured The 24/7 Championship

Roman Reigns and R-Truth battled Elias and Drew McIntyre in the main event of this week’s episode of SmackDown. Elias and McIntyre attacked R-Truth during his entrance. Reigns made the save and launched McIntyre into the ring post and then sent Elias into the barricade.

The match then officially started and Shane hopped up on the ring apron. Elias capitalized on the distraction and beat him down in the corner. McIntyre tagged in and hit Reigns with a Suplex for a two count.

R-Truth recovered and tagged in. McIntyre quickly sent him to the outside and slammed him into the barricade. McIntyre then Body Slammed R-Truth onto the ring apron as SmackDown went to a commercial break.

R-Truth was still stuck in the ring when SmackDown returned from the break. Drew planted R-Truth with a Suplex and tagged Elias back into the match. Elias hit R-Truth with a series of chops in the corner and McIntyre tagged back in.

Elias and McIntyre continued to take turns beating the hell out of R-Truth as Shane smiled on the outside of the ring. R-Truth finally fought back and sent McIntyre out of the ring.

Roman tagged in and hit Elias with a Clothesline. Reigns knocked McIntyre off the apron and clubbed Elias in the corner of the ring. Reigns then hit McIntyre with a Superman Punch and followed it up with a Drive By to Elias. Shane tried to attack Roman but Reigns grabbed.

McIntyre went for the Claymore but Roman got out of the way and Drew crashed on the table. Shane retreated up the entrance ramp as Reigns hit Elias with a Spear for the pinfall victory. After the match, Reigns hit Elias with another Spear. R-Truth then covered Elias to recapture the 24/7 Championship.

I didn’t think it was possible for Elias to fall any further but here we are. This week’s episode of SmackDown was more of the same. Shane McMahon has become the focal point of this show, while the majority of the superstars sit around in the back waiting for a chance. WWE has all the talent in the world but simply refuses to use them and it is incredibly frustrating to watch.
