WWE Elimination Chamber 2019 aired live from the Toyota Center in Houston, TX on February 17th. Here are 6 takeaways from the show:
Sasha Banks & Bayley Won The Women’s Tag Team Championships
The Women’s Tag Team Championship Elimination Chamber match opened up the PPV. Sonya Deville & Mandy Rose started off the match against Bayley & Sasha Banks. Sasha and Bayley controlled the match early and hit Deville and Rose with Double Knees. Rose battled back and planted Bayley with a Backbreaker for a two count.
Mandy Rose got up in the structure and Bayley connected with a Neckbreaker on the steel floor outside the ring. Liv Morgan and Sarah Logan’s pod opened and they went right after Bayley and Banks. The IIconics (Billie Kay & Peyton Royce) entered the match next and slammed Sarah Logan into the ring post.
Kay and Royce teamed up on Bayley and tried to eliminate her but Banks broke up the cover at the last second. Carmella & Naomi entered the match next and hit dueling Bronco Busters on Rose & Deville and Bayley & Banks. Carmella blasted Sarah Logan with a Superkick and Naomi followed it up with the split-legged Moonsault but Liv Morgan broke up the cover.
Billie Kay and Peyton Royce rolled up Naomi for the elimination. Naomi and Carmella were the first team eliminated from the match. Nia Jax and Tamina were the final team to enter the match and immediately beat the hell out of every other Superstar. The IIConics hid in one of the pods but Jax and Tamina dragged them out by their hair. Jax and Tamina then swung Kay and Royce into the structure several times before bringing them in the ring. Naomi and Tamina then planted them both with Samoan Drops for the elimination.
Liv Morgan and Sarah Logan climbed to the top of a pod and took out Rose, Deville, Jax, and Tamina with a Crossbody. Jax battled back and hit Morgan with a massive Samoan Drop off the second rope. Tamina then hit Morgan and Logan with a Splash off the top rope and The Riott Squad were eliminated.
Nia charged at Bayley but Bayley got out of the way at the last second and Jax went crashing through the pod. Rose, Deville, Bayley, and Banks then isolated Tamina in the ring. Bayley climbed to the top rope and connected with an Elbow Drop. Rose, Deville, Bayley, and Banks then covered Tamina for the elimination.
It was down to Banks & Bayley versus Deville & Rose. Banks hit Deville with a Backstabber and then Bayley hit the Bayley to Belly but Rose broke up the cover. Banks and Bayley brought Mandy Rose to the top of one of the pods as Deville climbed up the chamber behind them. Deville brought Bayley down to the floor and hit her with a Spear into the support beam on the pod.
Rose and Deville quickly attacked Sasha Banks and brought her into the ring. Mandy slammed Banks face-first to the canvas for a near fall. Sonya charged at Sasha but she got out of the way and Deville wound up Spearing Mandy Rose. Sasha applied the Bank Statement while using her leg instead of her injured shoulder and Deville tapped out. Sasha Banks and Bayley became the first-ever Women’s Tag Team Champions.

I thought this match was very good and the right team came out on top. It was rumored that this was going to be the main event of the PPV and it probably should have been because it will be tough for another match to top this one tonight.

The Usos Won The SmackDown Tag Team Championships
Shane McMahon & The Miz defended the SmackDown Tag Team Championships against The Usos tonight at Elimination Chamber. Before the match, The Miz came down to the entrance ramp with Maryse and announced that they have a 2nd child on the way. The match started off back and forth for a few minutes. Shane connected with a Coast to Coast Dropkick and then went for another but got a Superkick to the face. The Miz tagged in and Jey greeted him with a Samoan Drop.

The Miz took back control and cleared off the announce table outside the ring. Jimmy went for a Suicide Dive but accidentally took out Jey. The Miz set up Jey on the table as Shane climbed to the top rope. Shane hit a ridiculous Elbow Drop on Jey through the table as the crowd chanted “holy sh*t!”.
Back in the ring, Jimmy hit Miz with a Superkick and then climbed up to the top rope. Jimmy went for a Splash but Miz got his knees up. Miz then planted Jimmy with the Skull Crushing Finale and went for the cover. Jimmy kicked out and rolled up Miz for the pinfall victory. The Usos are the new SmackDown Tag Team Champions.
The Miz sat heartbroken in the ring after the match and mouthed to Shane that he was sorry. Miz rolled out of the ring and helped Shane to his feet. Miz and Shane slowly walked up the entrance ramp together and Miz explained as Miz explained what happened. Later on the show, The Miz flipped out as Shane was being looked at by a doctor. The Miz shouted that he was better than that and Shane told him to chill out and go home.

Shane McMahon was awesome in the match. It will be pretty easy for Shane to get pissed off at Miz and blame him for the loss in the upcoming weeks on SmackDown. Shane put his body through hell only for The Miz to lose. Hopefully, the tag team division becomes more interesting now that an actual team has the titles again.

Finn Balor Captured The Intercontinental Championship
Bobby Lashley (c) & Lio Rush faced Finn Balor in a Handicap Match for the Intercontinental Championship. Lashley and Rush controlled the match early but Balor was able to battle back and Clothesline Lashley to the outside. Balor threw Rush out of the ring and then flipped onto both of them.
Finn hit a Dropkick to Rush and followed it up with the Coup de Grace for the pinfall victory. After the match, Bobby Lashley ran after Balor but Finn escaped to the outside and celebrated with the Intercontinental Championship.
Lashley started shouted at Rush and then grabbed him by the throat. Lio apologized and Lashley let him go for a moment, before slamming him down to the canvas.

Finn Balor is the perfect Superstar to be the Intercontinental Champion and I hope he gets a long run with the title. Bobby Lashley without a manager sounds like a nightmare in my opinion. Lashley wasn’t remotely entertaining before Lio Rush arrived as his manager. At the very least, Lio Rush annoyed the crowd and Lashley was getting some kind of a reaction.

Becky Lynch Attacked Rousey and Flair
Ronda Rousey defended her RAW Women’s Championship against Ruby Riott tonight. Charlotte Flair was interviewed before the match and boasted about humiliating Becky Lynch last night at a WWE Live Event. Flair claimed that Becky panders for the fan’s attention and that she needs their approval. Charlotte added that she gets all the approval she needs when she looks in the mirror and claimed that she is the best Superstar in WWE. Flair then sat ringside for the match.

Ronda dominated the entire match and quickly hit the Piper’s Pit. Ronda followed it up with an Arm Bar for the submission victory. Flair then got into the ring and had a staredown with Ronda Rousey. Becky Lynch showed up with crutches and hobbled her way through the crowd.
Lynch made her way into the ring as the crowd chanted “she’s The Man!”. Lynch threw the crutch at Charlotte and then beat the hell out of her with the other one. Ronda Rousey then picked up a crutch and Becky encouraged her to hit Flair with it. Rousey approached Charlotte and Becky hit her in the back with the crutch. Lynch then hit Flair and Rousey several times before WWE security rushed the ring. Becky caught Rousey in the head with the crutch and busted her open during the attack.

There was absolutely no reason for Ruby Riott to have lost the match in embarrassing fashion like she did tonight. Everything that happened after the match was amazing. Becky Lynch being escorted out of the arena with a smile on her face was an awesome moment.
Whoever is righteous let her be righteous still

McIntyre & Lashley Helped Corbin Defeat Strowman
Braun Strowman squared off against Baron Corbin in a No DQ Match. Stroyman slammed McIntyre through a table with a Running Powerslam. Drew McIntyre and Bobby Lashley then came down to the ring and attacked Strowman.
Strowman tried to fight back but Corbin hit him in the back with a steel chair. McIntyre followed that up with a Claymore Kick to Strowman’s face. The trio then set up two tables on top of each other and brought Strowman to his feet.
McIntyre, Corbin, and Lashley then hit Strowman with a Triple Powerbomb through the tables. Corbin pinned Strowman for the victory and then posed with Lashley and McIntyre on top of the steel steps.

The biggest takeaway from this match was that the crowd didn’t care at all. They barely reacted when Strowman was slammed through the table and didn’t make a sound while Corbin, Lashley, and McIntyre posed on the steel steps.

Daniel Bryan Retained The WWE Championship
Daniel Bryan defended the WWE Championship in an Elimination Chamber match tonight. Before the match, Erick Rowan was kicked out from ringside. Bryan tried to avoid Samoa Joe to start off the match as AJ Styles, Kofi Kingston, Randy Orton, and Jeff Hardy watched from their pods.
Bryan finally got into the ring and booted Joe in the leg but Joe shrugged it off. Joe locked in a Knee Bar in the middle of the ring but Bryan was able to break free. Joe planted Bryan with a Powerbomb and then trapped Bryan in the Boston Crab in the middle of the ring. Joe transitioned into a Crossface but Daniel escaped and hit Joe with a Dropkick.
Kofi entered the match and hit Joe with a Splash off the top rope. Bryan attacked Kingston and hit him with a knee to the back of his head for a near fall. Bryan then retreated to a top of one of the pods and took a seat as Kingston and Joe traded shots. Kingston hopped on top of the turnbuckle and then jumped on top of the pod with Bryan.
Kingston hit Bryan with a couple of punches, which sent Daniel retreating on the cage. Kofi climbed after him and knocked him to the floor. Kingston then launched himself off the cage and took out Bryan and Joe on the floor.
AJ Styles entered the match and planted both Bryan and Kingston with a DDT. Samoa Joe tried to lock in the Coquina Clutch on Kingston but Kofi escaped. AJ then hit Joe with the Phenomenal Forearm for the pinfall. Samoa Joe was the first Superstar eliminated. Jeff Hardy got in the match and slammed Kofi to the mat. Hardy used Kofi’s back as a springboard and launched himself onto Bryan. Styles connected with a Pele Kick on Hardy as Bryan and Kingston battled on the outside of the ring.

Daniel booted Kingston in the chest several times but Kofi shrugged them all off. Bryan knocked Kofi to his knees and hit a flurry of kicks to his chest as the crowd chanted “no!”. Kingston ducked under a kick and hit the S.O.S. for a near fall. Bryan battled back and beat down Kingston in the corner. Daniel hit four Dropkicks in a row and went for a fifth but Kofi countered with a Double Stomp for another near fall.
Kingston went for a Running Bulldog but Bryan countered and sent Kofi crashing into a pod. Back in the ring, Daniel Bryan delivered a Running Knee and went for the cover but Kofi kicked out at two. Bryan stomped on Kingston’s face several times and went for a cover once again but Kofi kicked out.
Daniel went for another Running Knee but Kingston countered with the Trouble in Paradise for a near fall. Bryan quickly applied the LeBell Lock but Kingston refused to quit as the crowd chanted “this is awesome!”. Bryan climbed up to the top rope but Kingston caught him with a boot to the face.
Kofi and Bryan once again made their way to the top of a pod and traded shots. Kingston smashed Daniel’s head off the structure several times and went for a Superplex but Bryan blocked it. Bryan then bounced Kingston’s head off the structure a few times and went for a Superplex but this time Kofi blocked it. Kingston booted Bryan in the face and Bryan fell to the canvas. Kofi went for a Splash off the top of the pod but Bryan rolled out of the way. Daniel then connected with the Running Knee for the pinfall victory. Daniel Bryan is still WWE Champion.

Both Elimination Chamber Matches were great tonight. The crowd was heavily behind Kingston towards the end of the match but ultimately it wasn’t meant to be. It was cool to see the crowd give Kingston a standing ovation to close the show, as he has been an incredible talent in WWE for 11-years now. Overall, WWE Elimination Chamber 2019 was a solid show. The only negatives for me were Ruby Riott getting squashed and how directionless Braun Strowman is.
