The July 10th episode of WWE SmackDown aired live from the SNHU Arena in Manchester, NH. It was the final episode of SmackDown before WWE Extreme Rules this Sunday. Samoa Joe attacked Tye Dillinger before the show.
Here are 6 takeaways from this week’s episode of SmackDown:
Kane Is A Big Fan Of NSNYC
SmackDown kicked off with an episode of Miz TV this week. The Miz welcomed Kane and Daniel Bryan as his guests. The Miz promised Daniel Bryan that he was out here to be a professional and asked Bryan to extend the same courtesy.
Bryan raised his fist to punch Miz in the face but Kane talked him out of it. Daniel then told Miz that he will professional tonight and the crowd booed. The Miz shamed the crowd for booing someone that was trying to be civil and then told them all to shut up.
Miz spoke about Team Hell No’s history and called them a well-oiled machine. Miz asked if Team Hell No was ready to face the Bludgeon Brothers at Extreme Rules. Kane said that they are well aware of what Harper and Rowan are capable of, but they are not as good as Team Hell No.
The Miz agreed and said that Team Hell No may be the only team out there that can handle the Bludgeon Brothers. Miz then rolled footage of Kane attacking Daniel Bryan in the past in an effort to try to tear them apart. Miz blamed the guy in the truck and claimed that was not the footage he was trying to show.
Daniel Bryan stated that everyone sees what Miz is trying to do and it is not going to work. Bryan said that The Miz was terrible at everything and the crowd started chanting “yes!”. Bryan added that the only thing Miz is worse at than stirring the pot is wrestling.
The Miz changed his tone and got pissed off. Miz guaranteed that Kane is going to betray Bryan and Daniel is going to fall for it like he always does. Miz challenged Bryan to a match and claimed that Daniel could no longer hang with him. Kane tried to calm Daniel down and The Miz told Bryan to “hide behind his broken down demon one more time”.
Kane grabbed Miz by the throat but Harper and Rowan interrupted and made their way down the entrance ramp. SAnitY crashed the party and attacked Kane and Bryan from behind. Harper and Rowan then beatdown Kane outside the ring and threw him into the steel steps.
New Day interrupted and sprinted down to the ring to even the odds. New Day brawled with SAnitY in the ring as the Bludgeon Brothers still fought Kane on the outside. Eric Young planted Xavier Woods with a Neckbreaker as WWE officials ran to the ring to try to break things up.
Killian Dain and Alexander Wolfe slammed Big E to the canvas as Harper and Rowan hopped up on the ring apron. The Bludgeon Brothers and SAnity stared at each other to end the segment. SAnitY will battle New Day in a tables match at Extreme Rules. A 10-man tag match was announced for later tonight.

During Miz TV, Kane said Justin Timberlake would never return to NSYNC because he is too big of a star now after The Miz referenced an NSYNC reunion. Later on the show, New Day and Team Hell No were discussing strategy for the 10-man tag match. Kane wrapped up the segment by reciting lyrics from NSYNC’s 2000 smash hit “This I Promise You”.
Nakamura vs. Styles Ended In A DQ
AJ Styles was set to battle Shinsuke Nakamura tonight. Before the match, Rusev interrupted and vowed to destroy the house that AJ Styles built. Rusev stated that after he claims his first WWE Championship, he was going to celebrate on a day that will haunt AJ Styles forever, Rusev Day. The bell rang and Nakamura attacked Styles to start off the match. AJ battled back with a Dropkick as SmackDown went to a commercial break.
When SmackDown returned, Rusev had joined commentary for the match. AJ went for the Phenomenal Forearm but Nakamura was ready and shoved Styles off the ring apron. Nakamura launched Styles into the barricade and then brought him back inside the ring. Styles went for a roll-up but Shinsuke kicked out at two.
Styles connected with a kick to Nakamura’s head and then sent him to the corner. Nakamura battled back and draped AJ across the top rope and connected with a running knee to Styles’ ribs. Nakamura connected with a boot to the face for a two count as SmackDown went to a commercial break.
AJ connected with a Neckbreaker for a near fall when SmackDown returned from the break. Styles mocked Shinsuke’s “come on!” taunt and Nakamura charged at him. AJ threw Shinsuke out of the ring and hit him with a Phenomenal Forearm. Aiden English started trash talking English and Styles punched him in the face.
Shinsuke used the distraction to his advantage and struck AJ from behind. Nakamura then tried to deliver the Kinshasa to Styles but AJ dodged it and Nakamura hit Aiden English. Rusev then attacked AJ from behind and the match ended in a DQ. Rusev held up Styles in the ring and Nakamura geared up for the Kinshasa.
Jeff Hardy interrupted and ran down to the ring for the save. Jeff dropped Nakamura and Rusev with a Clothesline and followed it up with a Dropkick that knocked them both out of the ring. SmackDown GM Paige then came down to the entrance ramp and said that a tag match was going down next.
Rusev Picked Up A Victory Heading Into Extreme Rules
Rusev and Styles started off the tag match in a preview of the WWE Championship match this Sunday night at Extreme Rules. Rusev started out in control and slammed AJ to the canvas. Rusev shouted “Rusev Day!” and then trapped Styles in a Bear Hug.
Jeff Hardy begged for a tag from the apron as Styles was able to break free. Rusev planted AJ with a Body Slam and then quickly followed it up with Suplex. Rusev went right back to the Bear Hug in the middle of the ring as a promo for Extreme Rules aired.
AJ broke free once again and applied the Sleeper Hold to Rusev. Rusev broke the hold by slamming AJ back-first into the turnbuckle. Rusev charged at AJ but Styles dove out of the way and Rusev crashed into the steel ring post.
Jeff Hardy tagged in and greeted Rusev with a Clothesline that knocked him to the canvas. Jeff followed it up with a Leg Drop and a Dropkick to the face for a near fall. Hardy connected with an elbow to the face and delivered Whisper in the Wind off the top rope. Jeff went for the cover but Shinsuke broke it up.
AJ threw Nakamura out of the ring and connected with a knee to the face from the apron. Rusev then hit Styles with a Machka Kick and sent him to the floor outside the ring. Hardy hit Rusev with the Twist of Fate and made his way to the top rope. Shinsuke Nakamura hopped on the apron and crotched Jeff on the top turnbuckle. Rusev then hit Jeff with the Machka Kick for the pinfall victory.
Jeff Hardy will defend his United States Championship against Shinsuke Nakamura at Extreme Rules. AJ Styles will put the WWE on the line Sunday night when he battles Rusev at the PPV.

James Ellsworth Will Be Suspended Above The Ring In A Shark Cage At Extreme Rules
James Ellsworth faced Asuka once again tonight on SmackDown. The female Superstars on SmackDown surrounded the ring for the match. Before the match, SmackDown Women’s Champion Carmella caught up with Ellsworth backstage. Carmella wanted Ellsworth to take care of Asuka tonight as she is facing her Sunday night at the PPV. Ellsworth casually said that he has got everything under control and then winked at Carmella. She wasn’t a big fan of that and told James to never wink at her again. Carmella then told Ellsworth not to let her down and walked away.

James and Carmella then came down to the ring that was surrounded by the female Superstars. Ellsworth took off his shirt and told the ladies to not try and kiss him. James then said he was ready for Asuka and Asuka’s music hit.
Ellsworth tried to roll out of the ring to start off the Lumberjack Match but Becky Lynch and Naomi threw James back into the ring. James dropped to his knees and begged for mercy. Ellsworth ducked under a kick and hid on the ring apron. Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville approached him and Ellsworth had no choice but to get back into the ring.
Asuka hit Ellsworth with the Hip Attack and Ellsworth crashed to the floor. Ellsworth was thrown back into the ring and Asuka beat him down some more. James got out of the ring and tried to escape over the barricade. The female Superstars grabbed Ellsworth and dragged him back towards the ring.
The Lumberjacks started brawling and Ellsworth tried to escape up the entrance ramp. Becky Lynch and Naomi brought Ellsworth back to the ring and another brawl broke out. Asuka hit a Crossbody onto everyone and Ellsworth rolled back into the ring. Carmella handed Ellsworth a spray bottle but Asuka just kicked Ellsworth in the face. Asuka then shoved Ellsworth to the ropes, which caused James to accidentally knock Carmella off the apron.
Asuka applied the Asuka Lock on Ellsworth for the submission victory. After the match, Ellsworth sprayed Asuka in the face with whatever was in the bottle. Ellsworth then held onto Asuka’s leg to trap her and Carmella hit her with a Superkick. Carmella then posed with the SmackDown Women’s Championship.

Daniel Bryan Summoned Kane’s Pyro
New Day & Team Hell No battled The Bludgeon Brothers & SAnitY in the main event of this week’s episode of SmackDown. The 10-man tag match started out in a brawl. New Day and Team Hell No cleared the ring as SmackDown went to a commercial break.
New Day took turns beating down Alexander Wolfe from SAnitY when SmackDown returned from the break. Woods blasted Young off the ring apron and that allowed Wolfe to regroup. Wolfe hit Woods with a German Suplex and then Rowan tagged himself in.
Rowan planted Woods with a Backbreaker and followed it up with an Elbow Drop. Harper tagged in and connected with a Senton on Woods for a two count. Harper then applied a Headlock on Woods as a promo for Extreme Rules aired. Dain tagged in and continued to punish Woods as SmackDown went to a commercial break.
Woods was still trapped in the ring when SmackDown returned from the break. Xavier finally battled back and planted Harper with a DDT. Daniel Bryan and Eric Young tagged in and traded shots. Bryan got the upper-hand and dropped Young with a Clothesline. Daniel then Dropkicked Wolfe and Dain off the ring apron.
Bryan brought Young to the top rope and sent him flying to the canvas with a Hurricanrana. Bryan delivered a few Yes Kicks to Young’s chest. Bryan missed with a kick to the face and Young countered into a roll-up. Chaos broke out and everyone started taking out each other with their finishing moves.
Big E launched Kofi onto Harper out of the ring and then Dain hit Kofi with the Divide. Big E threw Dain to the apron and hit him with a Spear. Daniel Bryan geared up in the corner and then hit Eric Young with the running knee for the pinfall victory. Bryan tried to get fire to come out of the entrance ramp after the match. Opinion: SmackDown was far more entertaining than RAW this week. The tag matches tonight were solid and overall it was a good show. The Lumberjack Match was dumb and I’m sure Ellsworth will once again play a role in the SmackDown Women’s Championship match at Extreme Rules as he is suspended above the ring. I’m also already getting sick of seeing SAnitY lose on SmackDown. They dominated NXT and haven’t been given a chance at all on SmackDown. I’d like to see SAnitY at least get the victory in the Tables Match against New Day on the Extreme Rules Kickoff Show.
