The November 13th, 2017 episode of WWE RAW aired live from the Philips Arena in Atlanta, GA. It was the final episode of RAW before WWE Survivor Series this Sunday. Here are 7 takeaways from this week’s RAW:
Stephanie McMahon Once Again Belittled Kurt Angle
RAW Commissioner Stephanie McMahon kicked off this week’s episode of RAW. Stephanie called RAW GM Kurt Angle down to the ring. Stephanie asked how the New Day was able to get into the arena last week during RAW and Angle said that he didn’t know. Stephanie then berated Kurt Angle for putting his son, Jason Jordan, on Team RAW for Survivor Series. She then questioned why Kurt Angle allowed John Cena to be on Team SmackDown.
Angle dared Shane McMahon to start the match with him at Survivor Series and vowed to break Shane’s ankle. Stephanie stated that she made a mistake making Angle the RAW GM. Finally, The Shield interrupted and made their way to the ring. Dean Ambrose grabbed the microphone and said that Kurt Angle is a great leader.
Stephanie responded by mocking The Shield for losing the RAW Tag Team Championships and blamed Kurt Angle for allowing that to happen. Roman Reigns grabbed the microphone and poked fun at Stephanie McMahon falling through a table at WrestleMania 33. Reigns then announced that The Shield were challenging New Day at Survivor Series.

I thought this promo went on far too long. Stephanie McMahon laid a verbal beatdown on Kurt Angle for about 10 minutes before The Shield finally interrupted. I would have liked to see Kurt Angle stick up for himself a bit more here. He just stood there as Stephanie insulted him over and over again. It reminded me of when Mick Foley was GM. The dynamic between Foley and Stephanie McMahon got old very fast and I’m worried that the same thing is about to happen here.
Bayley Is The Final Member Of The RAW Women’s Team
Mickie James, Bayley and Dana Brooke battled to determine the final member of the RAW women’s team at Survivor Series. Alicia Fox, Sasha Banks, Asuka and Nia Jax were ringside for this match. Dana Brooke decided to punch Asuka after rolling out of the ring and that turned out to be a huge mistake. Asuka chased Dana around the ring and proceeded to level her with a kick that took Dana out of the match.
Bayley and Mickie James then battled in the ring. It wasn’t long before Bayley hit the Bayley to Belly for the pinfall victory. Bayley now joins Asuka, Sasha Banks, Nia Jax and Alicia Fox on the RAW women’s team for Survivor Series. After the match, the RAW women’s team all raised their hands in the ring.

I thought we might see Paige return here and the match would then have turned into a Fatal 4-Way. The women’s match at Survivor Series has had virtually no build whatsoever. There are so many variables and storylines within the men’s match, yet the women’s match just feels thrown together. I’m sure it will still be an entertaining match but I’m very underwhelmed with the build for this match.
The Shield Is Ready For The New Day

Sheamus & Cesaro were guests on Miz TV tonight on RAW. The Miz poked fun at Baron Corbin leading into their match at Survivor Series. Sheamus and Cesaro then came down to the ring and complimented The Usos on winning their tag titles on “that cute little show SmackDown”. The crowd chanted “you look stupid!” at Sheamus and The Miz told the crowd to shut up. The Miz then vowed to takedown The Shield alongside Sheamus and Cesaro later tonight on RAW.

The Miz, Sheamus & Cesaro faced The Shield to kick off the third hour of RAW. Axel and Bo Dallas were ringside for this match. The Miz escaped through the crowd during this match and left Sheamus and Cesaro behind. The Miz returned later in the match and was greeted with a Suicide Dive. Rollins then connected with a Suicide Dive to Sheamus. Back in the ring, Reigns hit Cesaro with a Superman Punch and then geared up for the Spear but Cesaro countered it into an uppercut.
The Miz then tagged himself in but got kneed in the face by Rollins. Ambrose planted Sheamus with the Dirty Deeds and then The Shield surrounded The Miz in the ring. Reigns hit Miz with a Spear and was then planted with a Triple Powerbomb. Reigns then pinned The Miz and The Shield celebrated in the ring.

The Shield reunion has felt forced so far, but I’m still looking forward to their match against New Day at Survivor Series. I’m sure it won’t be long before Roman Reigns is right back in the Universal Championship picture. I thought that Ambrose and Rollins would have held onto their titles longer, but WWE needed to figure out a way to get Reigns on the card so this match was the best solution. I would assume that Ambrose and Rollins will get another shot at the RAW Tag Team Championships after Survivor Series and may even win their titles back.
The Crowd Couldn’t Stand Jason Jordan

Bray Wyatt made his return tonight and faced Jason Jordan in a match thrown together for no particular reason. Booker T announced that he will finally start believing in Jason Jordan if Jordan picked up the victory, so there clearly was a lot on the line. Jordan controlled the match early, but Wyatt avoided his attack and Jordan slammed himself into the barricade outside the ring as RAW went to a commercial break.
When RAW returned, Wyatt was still in control. At one point, Wyatt asked the crowd “is this your hero?” and the crowd didn’t make a sound. Jordan then picked up the victory with a roll-up and Kurt Angle was shown gleefully celebrating backstage as Stephanie McMahon smiled next to him.
After the match, Bray Wyatt attacked Jordan as the crowd celebrated. The crowd chanted “yes!” as Wyatt beat the hell out of Jordan. Bray then slammed Jordan’s knee into the ring post and the crowd chanted “thank you Wyatt”. Jason Jordan then limped up the entrance ramp and the crowd sang “hey hey hey goodbye”.
Jason Jordan was shown backstage with Kurt Angle. Kurt said that he doesn’t think Jason Jordan will be able to compete this Sunday. Jordan stated that he deserves this and asked his father not to take his big moment away from him.

I cannot believe how poorly the Jason Jordan storyline has been executed. He was presented as Kurt Angle’s son out of nowhere and then WWE seemingly ran from the storyline for months. Now, the storyline has been reintroduced but the crowd is flat out rejecting it. I feel bad for Jason Jordan at this point. He has zero charisma and is just dying out there in front of the crowd. It was clear that the crowd wanted to see Bray Wyatt to win. Unfortunately, Bray Wyatt is another example of a Superstar that WWE has failed to capitalize on.
A Marriage Proposal Hijacked The Show
Paul Heyman and Brock Lesnar made their way down to the ring. Heyman listed off several points why everyone needs to subscribe to the WWE Network to see Survivor Series this Sunday. Heyman stated that this Sunday may be the only time people will get to see AJ Styles versus Brock Lesnar.
The promo was interrupted by the crowd chanting “she said yes!” because a marriage proposal had just taken place in the crowd. Heyman joked that the only reason she said yes was because she had never been up close with someone like The Beast Brock Lesnar. Heyman then wrapped up his promo by complimenting Styles, but noted that he will lose to Lesnar on Sunday.
Heyman’s promo was decent tonight. It certainly wasn’t one of his more memorable ones, but even one if his weaker promos still made for the best promo of the night. The match between AJ Styles and Brock Lesnar really doesn’t need a build at all. It sells itself. This was one of the better unscripted moments I’ve seen in WWE in a long time. Heyman handled it like a pro and acknowledged the distraction perfectly.
Triple H Announced He Is On Team RAW
Kurt Angle came down to the ring and announced that he will not allow Jason Jordan to compete for the men’s team at Survivor Series. Angle was about to announce a replacement when Jason Jordan limped down to the ring. Jordan pleaded with Angle to not take this from him and that this is the one chance he has to be in a match with his father.
Stephanie McMahon them emerged from the back and told Kurt Angle to make the announcement. Angle still hesitated and then Triple H stormed to the ring. Triple H announced that he was the 5th member of Team RAW. Jason Jordan had tears in his eyes and pleaded with Triple H. Triple H then turned to Kurt Angle and then Pedigreed Jason Jordan right in front of him.

This was a great segment. Triple H announced that he was replacing Jason Jordan and then Pedigreed him right in front of his “father”. The men’s 5 on 5 Elimination match just got even more interesting with the addition of Triple H and the removal of Jason Jordan. There have been rumors that Angle and Triple H will have a match at WrestleMania 34 and this planted the seed for that.
The issue I have is that I just don’t want to see The Authority again on RAW right now. I understand that is the best way to get to a Triple H and Kurt Angle match, but I’m just not looking forward to watching weekly Stephanie McMahon and Kurt Angle promos. Everything is exciting now because it is the build to Survivor Series. However, the next couple of months of RAW could be rough if it ia authority figures arguing for 20 minutes every week.
Strowman Slammed Kane Through The Ring

Braun Strowman faced off against Kane in the main event of RAW. Kane connected with a right hand to start off the match. Strowman responded with a big boot and then kicked Kane out of the ring. Strowman followed Kane out of the ring and beat him down for a couple of minutes.
Strowman taunted Kane and tried to throw Kane into the steps but Kane reversed it and Strowman crashed into the steel steps. Kane then grabbed a table from under the ring. Strowman got back up and hit Kane with a chair a few times. Kane and Strowman battled on the turnbuckle. Strowman knocked Kane to the canvas but Kane got back to his feet. Braun connected with the Running Powerslam and both Superstars fell through the ring as RAW went off the air.

This was pretty predictable as they spent the first few minutes outside the ring. I didn’t think that this was that big of a moment to end the go-home episode of RAW before Survivor Series. I’m still not sure how this feud is helping Braun Strowman at all as the crowd was completely silent for this match. There were still some entertaining moments throughout this week’s episode of RAW and Survivor Series is a must watch PPV this Sunday.
