7 Takeaways From WWE RAW (4/29)

Rollins Styles RAW

The April 29th, 2019 episode of WWE RAW aired live from Rupp Arena in Lexington, KY. In addition to the takeaways below, another episode of Firefly Fun House aired during tonight’s show.

Here are 7 takeaways from this week’s episode of RAW:

Strowman, Ricochet, Corbin & McIntyre Will Be In The MITB Ladder Match

Alexa Bliss announced the RAW participants in the men’s Money in the Bank Ladder Match.

Braun Strowman, Ricochet, Drew McIntyre, and Baron Corbin were announced as the RAW participants. McIntyre confronted Corbin about stealing a victory from him last week and vowed to win the MITB Ladder Match.

McIntyre told Ricochet Strowman told everyone to shut up and claimed that nobody has what it takes to stop him.

Strowman and Ricochet then battled Corbin and McIntyre in a tag match. Corbin and McIntyre controlled the match early and isolated Ricochet in the ring. Strowman chased Corbin around the ring but wound up running into a Claymore from McIntyre. Corbin tried to steal the pinfall from McIntyre after he did all the work but it blew up in his face. Strowman got back up and planted Corbin with the Running Powerslam. Ricochet followed it up with the Shooting Star Press for the pinfall victory.

It is absurd how many episodes of RAW and SmackDown start off with an “impromptu” tag match. The match wasn’t entertaining because there was no reason to care about it at all.

The Revival Hit A New Low

The Revival (RAW 4/29)

Gallows and Anderson returned to RAW and promptly lost to The Usos. After the match, The Usos rolled footage of Dash Wilder shaving Scott Dawson’s back in the locker room.

The Revival came down to the entrance ramp to defend themselves but The Usos continued to poke fun at them. The Revival said that they will deal with The Usos later and went backstage to get ready for their match against Hawkins & Ryder later on the show.

Dawson and Wilder faced Hawkins and Ryder during the third hour of RAW. The Revival isolated Ryder in the ring and took turns beating him down as Hawkins pleaded for a tag from the ring apron. Ryder wound up rolling up Dawson for the pinfall victory.

The Revival is a terrific tag team that deserves much better. I’d like to see them in a different promotion in the near future, so they can return to delivering quality matches.

Shane McMahon Will Face The Miz In A Cage Match At WWE Money In The Bank

Shane McMahon distracts The Miz (RAW 4/29)

Bobby Lashley joined Miz for an episode of Miz TV tonight on RAW. Lashley stated that he is only going to answer the questions that he wants to answer. The Miz said that Lashley is one of the best talents to ever come through WWE, but some people believe that he is not reaching his full potential.

Lashley boasted about winning the Intercontinental Championship two times since he has returned and asked what The Miz has done. Miz ran down his accomplishments and called himself an overachiever for marrying Maryse. Bobby brought up The Miz losing to Shane McMahon at WrestleMania and added that he doesn’t blame Miz’s dad for thinking his son is worthless.

The Miz got pissed off and attacked Lashley in the middle of the ring. Miz got in a few shots before Lashley retreated out of the ring as RAW went to a break. When RAW returned, Lashley and The Miz were in the middle of a match. The Miz took control but Shane McMahon came down to the entrance ramp for a distraction.

Miz planted Lashley with a DDT for a near fall as Shane came down to the bottom of the ramp. Shane then hopped up on the ring apron and put a picture of The Miz’s dad on the jumbotron. Lashley capitalized on the distraction with a Spear of the pinfall victory. After the match, The Miz tackled Shane but Lashley slammed him to the canvas. Shane hit Miz with a flurry of punches and then choked Miz out. Shane then grabbed a microphone and said that he is the best in the world.

Later on RAW, The Miz was interviewed backstage about the attack. The Miz challenged Shane McMahon to a Steel Cage Match at WWE Money in the Bank. Shane McMahon quickly accepted the challenge on Twitter.

Alexa Bliss, Natalya, Dana Brooke & Naomi Will Compete In The MITB Ladder Match

Alexa Bliss announced the female superstars that will be competing in the women’s Money in the Bank Ladder Match at the PPV next month. Bliss announced Dana Brooke and Natalya as the first two Superstars and they quickly started arguing with each other.

Bliss interrupted them and announced that Naomi will be in the match. Naomi came down to the entrance ramp and vowed to win the match. Alexa announced herself as the fourth RAW Superstar that will be competing in the match. Naomi challenged Bliss to a match and Alexa accepted.

Bliss spent the majority of the match trying to tie her shoes and avoiding Naomi. Eventually, Naomi took control and Bliss’ shoes fell off. Bliss threw a tantrum and started shouting at the referee. Naomi capitalized with the Rear View and then a Moonsault for the victory.

Becky Lynch Brawled With Lacey Evans

Becky Lynch (RAW 4/29)

RAW and SmackDown Women’s Champion Becky Lynch came down to the ring to a great reaction from the crowd. Becky said that she doesn’t care about the odds and is not worried about defending both titles at WWE Money in the Bank.

Becky demanded that Lacey Evans come out to the ring so she can get some payback. Evans hit Lynch with two Woman’s Rights last week on RAW. Lacey came down to the entrance ramp and said that she was trying her best not to lose her manners.

Evans stated that she was done talking and charged the ring. Lacey and Lynch brawled on the entrance ramp as WWE officials tried to separate them. Becky and Lacey got in a few shots on each other before they were separated.

Lacey Evans isn’t getting that much of a reaction as a heel so far. I’m sure the audience would care more about her if she did more than walk down an entrance ramp for months before being thrown into a title match. I thought that this feud had the potential to be entertaining because Becky and Lacey are completely opposite characters. However, it has fallen flat and Lynch’s momentum is starting to fade now that she is on both shows.

Sami Zayn Plans To Hold The WWE Universe Accountable Every Week

Sami Zayn (RAW 4/29)

Sami Zayn gave another lecture about how the WWE Universe is entitled. Zayn claimed that if the WWE Universe doesn’t get exactly what they want, they throw a fit.

Zayn claimed that he bumped into a father and son at an airport this week. The boy wanted Sami to sign one of his action figures and Zayn declined. Sami stated that the boy started crying and that made him sick. Sami told the crowd that he doesn’t owe them anything and that he has been more than generous by delivering 17-years of classic matches.

Sami told the crowd that he will give him them whatever he wants and the crowd should sit there and take it. He asked the crowd if they wanted him to quit WWE and a few of them chanted “yes!”. Zayn said that quitting WWE would be amazing, but it is more amazing to hold the crowd accountable for their actions. He added that he is taking the power back from the crowd and dropped the microphone.

Styles & Rollins Signed The Contract

Seth Rollins and AJ Styles had a contract signing for their Universal Championship match at WWE Money in the Bank. AJ told Seth that he wanted the Universal Championship and that he has known Rollins for many years. Styles claimed that it has been so many times that Seth will be the “new AJ Styles”. AJ stated that Rollins will never be the phenomenal AJ Styles.

Rollins agreed and said that he never wanted to be the next AJ Styles, he wants to be the first Seth “freaking” Rollins. Seth added that this is not SmackDown, this is Monday Night Rollins. He added that AJ is going to have to better than phenomenal to take the Universal Championship.

The crowd started chanting “burn it down” as Styles not that Ambrose and Reigns aren’t on RAW to help him out anymore. AJ noted that Seth went through hell at WrestleMania and claimed that Rollins doesn’t have much left. Styles said that he was going to be a bulldog at Money in the Bank and he is going to sink his teeth in and will not let go until he is the new Universal Champion.

Seth stood up and said that while AJ likes to build things up, he likes to burn things down. Rollins pointed out that AJ failed to defeat Brock Lesnar and vowed to beat Styles at Money in the Bank. The two superstars signed the contract and AJ grabbed the belt. Styles took a look at it and then handed it back to Rollins. AJ extended his hand but Rollins opted to raise the title in his face.

Styles punched Seth in the face but Rollins got back up and booted AJ out of the ring. Rollins hit AJ with a Suicide Dive but took his eye off AJ. Styles connected with a Phenomenal Forearm through the table in the ring as RAW went off the air.

I certainly got the vibe that AJ Styles is going to be a heel on RAW. Gallows and Anderson also randomly showed up on the RAW roster tonight, so it is possible they reunite with Styles as well. At least I hope that is the case. The Universal Championship contract signing was legitimately the only segment of RAW that I enjoyed tonight. The rest of the show was terrible.
