Former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar announced his retirement from mixed-martial-arts following his first-round TKO loss to Alistair Overeem at Friday’s UFC 141: “Lesnar vs. Overeem” event.
Lesnar was dominated in a one-sided beatdown by the former Strikeforce, K-1 and DREAM heavyweight champion Overeem, who with the victory now moves on to fight Junior Dos Santos for the UFC heavyweight championship in his next Octagon tilt.
During Lesnar’s post-fight interview with UFC commentator Joe Rogan, the former WWE Superstar revealed that he had planned to retire all along. Lesnar claimed that had he won the Overeem bout, he would have fought Junior Dos Santos for the title and then retire. If he lost to Overeem, he would retire on the spot. The latter happened, and Lesnar fulfilled the promise he claimed to have made with his wife, former WWE Diva Rena “Sable” Mero to retire from active mixed-martial-arts competition.
