Brock Lesnar Retains Universal Title At WWE Royal Rumble

Lesnar Royal Rumble

For those hoping to see Brock Lesnar drop the Universal Title and no longer be the top champion on the RAW brand, that hope will have to hold off as he successfully retained the title against Finn Balor at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view event in Phoenix, Arizona.

It’s been well documented that this contest had to go through a big change as WWE decided to remove Braun Strowman from this Universal Title Match against Lesnar at the Royal Rumble. This was after WWE decided that they didn’t want Strowman to lose to Lesnar again and pulled him from the contest.

They did an angle on an episode of Monday Night RAW back on January 14th where Strowman chased after Baron Corbin after having a promo segment to the point that Corbin was hiding in Vince McMahon’s limo. Strowman busted out a window and ripped off the door of the limo.

Later in the show, McMahon booked a Fatal 4-Way Match in order to determine a new #1 contender. Balor beat John Cena, Drew McIntyre, and Baron Corbin to earn the right to challenge Lesnar for the Universal Title at the Royal Rumble.

It’s likely that Lesnar won’t make his next title defense until WrestleMania 35 in April in East Rutherford, NJ at MetLife Stadium.

What are your thoughts on Lesnar retaining the title? Was this the right call by WWE officials? Sound off in the comment section.
