– World Heavyweight champion Sheamus retained his title in controversial fashion at WWE SummerSlam. After hitting Alberto Del Rio in the head with Ricardo Rodriguez’ shoe, Sheamus pinned Del Rio 1-2-3. Del Rio had his foot on the ropes – but the referee didn’t see it and Sheamus was awarded the victory.
Del Rio has now filed a formal complaint with SmackDown General Manager Booker T. The WWE website spoke with referee Mike Chioda and he admitted the mistake. Booker T will address the situation on Friday’s SmackDown, which will likely lead to a rematch.
