Tony Nese no longer holds onto the Cruiserweight Title as he lost it in his latest title defense. Drew Gulak beat Nese and Akira Tozawa to become the new champion.
This triple threat match took place at the latest pay-per-view event for the company, Stomping Grounds, that aired on their streaming service from Tacoma, WA at the Tacoma Dome.
This match was set up on Tuesday’s episode of 205 Live after a fatal four-way match between Akira Tozawa, Oney Lorcan, Humberto Carrillo, and Drew Gulak on the June 11 episode ended in controversy. The finish of that match that was supposed to determine the number one contender but featured a double pin with Gulak and Tozawa.
Nese became champion when he dethroned Buddy Murphy at WrestleMania 35 in April. This was an impressive win as Murphy had held the title since he was able to beat Cedric Alexander to win the title at WWE Super Show-Down pay-per-view event at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in Melbourne, Australia last November.
A rematch between Gulak and Nese is likely to take place at the Extreme Rules pay-per-view event that takes place on July 14th, 2019 in Philadelphia, PA at the Wells Fargo Center.
