Finn Balor Talks NXT Return, Being Unsure Of AEW Competition

Finn Balor sounded off on some interesting topics

Finn Balor recently spoke with Sports Illustrated about a wide range of topics including WWE’s competition with AEW.

When the launch of AEW’s weekly TV deal on TNT to air Dynamite came closer, WWE reached a deal with the USA Network to air NXT in the same timeslot as AEW.

According to Balor, he doesn’t know if they are competing with any promotion.

“I don’t know if we’re competing with anyone. The only person I’m competing with is myself from yesterday. I’m trying to be better than who I was yesterday. On this Wednesday, I’m going to be better than I was last Wednesday. That’s the way I approach life and that’s how I evolve.”

Balor stated that he doesn’t worry about what other people are doing but rather focused on the brand that he’s working for. He thinks NXT is the purest form of wrestling on this planet.

Balor brought up how doing what he wants in the ring with no restrictions is the greatest honor that he can have. He added that he’s treating this as an opportunity to help evolve as a performer and help change the game again.

Balor was also asked about his return which led to him turning heel.

“Everybody talks about ‘Finn going back to NXT’ when in reality I’ve gone back to who I was. I’d been caught up in the bubble of WWE and what they wanted me to be and how they expected me to perform as a character, and I took some time off to re-evaluate who I am and where I came from.

I re-evaluated what I want to do and what I want to achieve, and I decided the best thing for me is to be true to who I am.”

Balor added that he doesn’t fit the mold to play corporate ball and please everyone. Instead, he needs to please himself, which has led to him shaking the trees and see what falls out.

Balor returned to NXT on the October 2nd episode and then turned heel on last Wednesday’s episode of NXT. The fallout of that turn is expected to play out on this week’s show.
