During a recent interview on the Pro Wrestling Torch Livecast, former WWE wrestler Dustin “Goldust” Runnels confirmed online reports that there were plans for him to wrestle his younger brother Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 28 – and revealed why the match never took place.
Goldust said he pitched the angle to Triple H and WWE’s writing team and got good feedback on the idea. When it was presented to Vince McMahon for approval, the WWE chairman declined. Goldust was disappointed but understood it’s their choice.
He is adamant that the encounter “could have been money” and would still like the match to occur should he return to WWE in the future.
A live caller said there would be no Attitude Era without Goldust, but Rhodes said he has not been contacted to appear at the 1,000th RAW Celebration. He is currently recovering from recent shoulder surgery and still hopes to win the NWA World Heavyweight championship, the belt his father held, before he retires.
