Kofi Kingston has remained on top of the mountain in the WWE, and his reign as the WWE Champion continues.
Kingston did just that when he successfully beat Samoa Joe to remain as the WWE Champion, which serves as the top title on the SmackDown roster, at the WWE Extreme Rules pay-per-view event.
Originally advertised for the show included Kingston defending the WWE Title against Kevin Owens and Dolph Ziggler in a triple threat match. Obviously, the plans changed.
Kingston’s reign started when he knocked off Daniel Bryan as the WWE Champion at the WWE WrestleMania 35 pay-per-view event. This marks the first time that Kingston has held the WWE Title or a major World Title under the WWE banner for that matter.
This is a new feud for Kingston, who had been working with Dolph Ziggler over the last few months. Plans had to be changed as the program was booked due to Kevin Owens, who was supposed to challenge Kingston, not wanting to travel to the country for the Super ShowDown event.
WWE would book Kingston vs. Ziggler at the Money in the Bank as well as the Stomping Grounds pay-per-view last month.
What are your thoughts on Kingston retaining the WWE Title? Was this the right call by WWE officials? Sound off in the comment section.
