Late Creative Changes To WWE SmackDown Live, News On Eric Bischoff’s Role

Vince McMahon continues to make changes

WWE Chairman and CEO Vince McMahon continues to make changes to the product that is presented on SmackDown Live.

Over the last few weeks, there have been reports that McMahon has completely re-written the script for SmackDown just a few hours before the show goes live on the USA Network.

Tuesday’s episode in Detroit, Michigan at the Little Caesars Arena wasn’t different. Both Ryan Satin of Pro Wrestling Sheet and Dave Meltzer reported the changes done by McMahon.

Satin noted Eric Bischoff still hasn’t had much influence on the creative direction of SmackDown Live to the point that he hasn’t made suggests or pitches yet. He’s only been on the job as the Executive Director of SmackDown Live for a few weeks.

He would later note that McMahon wasn’t happy with the script and re-wrote the whole show with just hours before it begins.

Meltzer confirmed that McMahon tore up the script and changed the main event. While not confirmed by WWE, the company reportedly had planned to book WWE Champion Kofi Kingston vs. Daniel Bryan in the headliner of the show.

This match has been reported for this spot on a previous episode but was changed as well. Meltzer later added that Kingston & Xavier Woods vs. Bryan & Erick Rowan was a consideration for the main event.
