Mae Young Classic competitor Tegan Nox (formerly known as Nixon Newell) suffered a bad knee injury during her tournament match against Rhea Ripley. It was a bad situation all around that is now compounded by this latest development. According to Pro Wrestling Sheet, Tegan Nox was originally booked to make it to the finals.
The news that Tegan Nox was supposed to reach the finals of this year’s Mae Young Classic tournament makes her injury in the quarter finals all the more heartbreaking. However, she is taking the setback with a positive attitude. After she had time to process what happened, she released an encouraging statement on Twitter explaining that she will return stronger than ever. “Freak accidents happen,” she said. “It’s part of the job.”
The finals of the Mae Young Classic will take place at October’s WWE Evolution pay-per-view. Io Shirai and Toni Storm will compete at WWE’s all-women’s pay-per-view to crown this year’s winner.
