Cable news host Nancy Grace spoke about the Ultimate Warrior’s death on her show on Wednesday night and right off the bat, the narrative was that pro wrestling has lost another legend due to drugs.
“This isn’t the first time we’ve seen wrestlers die young. Nancy Grace talks with Diamond Dallas Page, a former professional wrestler, about the death of Hellwig and other wrestlers.”
Grace continuously stated that “rumors are swirling” that steroids were a factor in Warrior’s death, and showed a scrolling list of wrestlers who died young and even mistakenly said that Owen Hart died from drugs. In fact, numerous people on the list died from circumstances completely unrelated to drugs:
- Mark Curtis (Stomach cancer, referee)
- Brady Boone (Car accident)
- Joey Marella (Car accident, referee)
- Chris Candido (blood clot following surgery)
- DJ Peterson (motorcycle accident)
Her segment set off a huge backlash on Twitter, with several of Owen’s friends pointing out the hurtful inaccuracy and slamming Grace:
We all make mistakes @NancyGraceHLN. Please admit you made one regarding the death of #OwenHart. You have caused his family great pain.
