New Japan Pro Wrestling owner Takaaki Kidani has revealed plans to lock make Kazuchika Okada the ‘crown jewel’ of the promotion in the years to come.

In light of the recent departures of AJ Styles and Shinsuke Nakamura (and Bullet Club members Karl Anderson and Doc Gallows rumored to be following them to WWE), New Japan is taking this opportunity to lock down their top talent and solidify themselves as a top tier global promotion.

“I don’t want NJPW to be seen as a local or indy promotion,” Kidani told Tokyo Sports. “There have to be 2 top promotions in the world.”

“I’d like to create a venue for proposing (a new contract to Okada) in April. ‘Pay him whatever it takes to stay.’ I think that’s the will of the fans … I can’t get into the details, but we have an exhaustive plan in place to make Okada a true star. The scale of this project is in the ballpark of 200mil. yen (Approx $1.7 million USD).”

Okada was also quoted, telling Tokyo Sports that he has no interest in jumping to WWE because he knows that NJPW needs him and he is ready to carry them into the future.

“Well, I haven’t gotten any offers to begin with (from WWE). And even if I did, I wouldn’t go (to WWE). Why? Because without me, (NJPW) would be finished. I know Nakamura-san only felt he could leave because I was here. Personally, I almost wish he never comes back. I want him to be that successful.”
