Batista-WWE Update, Plans For SummerSlam, NXT Eliminations

– As we recently reported, plans for former WWE superstar Dave Batista to make his professional MMA debut for the Strikeforce promotion fell through when the company was purchased by UFC earlier this year. With Batista’s MMA career still not off the ground yet, there has been speculation as to whether a return to WWE would be in the cards for him.

According to a reliable source, WWE’s creative team does still talk about Batista and how he would fit into current and future storylines. No matter what happens with Batista doing mixed martial arts, the general feeling is that he has not wrestled his final match in a WWE ring.

– With SummerSlam just three months away, WWE is working on the top feuds that will make up the card.

The current plan for WWE Champion John Cena is for him to defend against RAW newcomer Alberto Del Rio. Despite coming up short in title matches at the last 2 pay-per-views, Del Rio is still seen as a top talent by management and is almost certainly a future world champion.

Rey Mysterio vs. R-Truth was talked about as well, but with John Morrison recently undergoing neck surgery, the Mysterio-Truth match was moved up to Over the Limit. John Morrison and R-Truth could now take place at SummerSlam.

– Next week’s episode of NXT: Redemption will see the first elimination of this season. Voting is underway at WWE.com. Here’s a look at the current standings:

  • Titus O’Neil: 19 points
  • Darren Young: 7 points
  • Jacob Novak: 6 points
  • Byron Saxton: 3 points

Steve Austin Comments On Rumors He Will Wrestle Again

Several weeks ago, WWE Hall of Famer “Stone Cold” Steve Austin made headlines when he said that he is healthy enough that he could wrestle a full-time schedule for 2 more years if he really wanted to.

During a recent interview with the UK Sun, Austin stomped a mudhole in our hopes and dreams – saying he has no intention getting back into the ring as an active competitor:

“I’m happy being gone and out of the business to the degree I am, that’s why the Tough Enough thing was such a great opportunity between my other projects. I can be as hands-on and as close as I want to be. I’m not attempting to come back and I have a load of memories from a business I love.”

“I got up there and took some bumps with one of the contestants and worked around with one of the guys and I had fun getting in the ring and bouncing around again.”

“But it doesn’t mean I want to go and do it again on a night in, night out basis.”

Austin said that he plans to continue focusing on his acting career.

JR Blog: John Morrison’s Surgery, Christian’s Short Title Reign

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross is back with another blog update, which you can read in its entirety at JRsBarBQ.com. Here are some highlights of what JR said about:

John Morrison’s Neck Surgery: “Good news on John Morrison’s surgery to repair a neck issue. Not major or overly invasive and Morrison should be back in the ring in a month or two or so we assume. John would be best served to return later rather than sooner, make sure that he’s 100%, at a minimum, not to mention it would be cool seeing him on Raw rehabbing himself back into ring shape which builds anticipation for his return. One suggestion to Morrison is to watch various Shawn Michaels bouts from different times of HBK’s career to see how Shawn kept reinventing himself in route to becoming the best in the business.”

UFC Offering Fighters Health Insurance: “A tip of the hat to UFC for their new fighter’s insurance referendum. Many fighters seem to need ample help in managing their lives and this aspect of their life is imperative to address. Very strategic maneuver by UFC notwithstanding it is the right thing to do.”

Monday’s RAW: “Monday Night Raw was an interesting, two hour broadcast. Thought the Lawler stuff was the most compelling content of the night other than Cole invoking the Mother’s Day dialog that I found to be uncomfortable. Having been to the rodeo a time or two, I realize that was obviously Cole’s intention. The Triple Threat Main Event was executed very well. Really good, TV main event.”

Christian’s Short Title Reign: “WWE promoting Smackdown inside Raw was strategic and timely. Nice positioning. It also tells me that Christian losing the World Title wasn’t any where near his ‘professional, death knell’ as some fans declared and that Christian just may be set for a significant period of time of his career especially considering the overall lack of depth within the business, as we speak.”

“I see Christian becoming much more viable than he has been in the past and it seems that him losing the World Title has ignited that theory.”

McMahon Reportedly Furious With TNA Angle (Contains Spoilers)

Outspoken celebrity blogger Perez Hilton posted an article on FitPerez.com concerning Chyna’s return to the squared circle.

“The Ninth Wonder of The World” debuted for TNA Wrestling at last Tuesday’s iMPACT! taping in Orlando, Florida. The former WWE Diva was revealed as Kurt Angle’s “mistress” and will be competing in a mixed tag team match with Kurt Angle against Jeff and Karen Jarrett at TNA Sacrifice this Sunday.

According to Hilton, Vince McMahon was considering placing Chyna in the WWE Hall of Fame, but has since dismissed the idea due to her association with the rival promotion. Hilton adds McMahon is furious with her decision to join TNA.

TMZ.com reported last week that Chyna has not signed a contract with TNA Wrestling as she is currently working on a “handshake deal” with a “very, very short leash.”

Chyna is off to a good start so far as sources within TNA Wrestling say she exceeded expectations in regards to how she handled herself backstage at the event.

“Chyna was very well liked,” said one TNA source. Another source added, “She was great.” It was also noted that she has mellowed out.

Chyna made a second wrestling related appearance at last Saturday’s “Legends of the Ring” convention in Monroe, New Jersey. She appeared healthy and in good spirits.

Two TE Contestants Gone, Divas Appearing On Next Week’s Show

— Eric and Ivelisse were cut from this week’s episode of Tough Enough. Ivelisse was eliminated due to an injury she had difficulty working through, while Eric was sent home due to substandard performance.

The other contestant in the Bottom Three was A.J., who was nearly cut over Eric.

— Advertised for next week’s episode are the WWE Divas guest-starring and joining the contestants for a “night out on the town.” The preview teased multiple injuries and one trip to the emergency room.

The synopsis for next week’s show is as follows:

The Injuries Pile Up on the Next Tough Enough, Monday at 8/7C!

And then there were six. Stone Cold Steve Austin enlists the help of four sexy WWE Divas and THQ video games to teach the remaining contestants all about creativity. In the ring, a tough training session leads to a serious injury that puts one contestant’s dreams in jeopardy.

MVP Discusses Leaving WWE, Benoit’s Influence On His Career

Recap of former WWE star MVP’s appearance on the Busted Open satellite radio show on Sirius 92 and XM 207

MVP on leaving WWE and if he would consider returning: “I want to make this point first because it’s very important…. I had about a year left on my deal and I asked the Vice President of Talent Relations to release me from my contract because I wanted to go wrestle in Japan. I left on good terms, the door is open for me to return if I should choose to. It’s kinda like the WWE is that ex-girlfriend that you kinda grew apart from… we just kinda grew apart. I’m happy now, man, I’m happy.

“They honored my request, there’s no animosity between us. Vince’s view for his company is more of a Disney-type entertainment company and I always wanted to be a professional wrestler and I love the fact that I’m in Japan wrestling professionally, and it’s not a bad word. The door is open as they say. People ask me all the time on Twitter…..’Will you return to the WWE? When are you coming back?’…..never say never, but right now man, I’m happier than I’ve been in a very, very long time.”

MVP on Christian’s brief title reign: “I’m sure there’s a bigger picture. Let’s look at it like this. The WWE is desperately in need of new stars. Edge is out, Taker doesn’t have much time left, Rey-Rey doesn’t have much time left, and they’re trying to take these new guys and turn them into something, and it takes time. The guys that are leaving have 15-20 years of television… and these new guys coming in have a few years and there’s just not that emotional investment. Christian is going to be a player.

“I’m not concerned about his loss because I do think there is a bigger storyline unfolding. It would make the most sense to turn Christian heel, and I like the suggestions about him (from our callers) doing the ‘I don’t get respect, I’ve always been second fiddle to Edge’. I think that makes perfect sense, which is why I think they won’t do it.”

MVP on Chris Benoit’s influence on his career: “When I was still on the independent scene and being brought into WWE as an extra, I met Chris Benoit. He was one of my favorites. I studied all of his work in Japan. One of my most watched DVD collections was Chris Benoit’s body of work in Japan. I used to talk to him all the time, he took an interest in my career. Before I got signed, he would call me up on the weekends and….’Have you had any independent matches?’…..we would talk about it. And at one point he asked me to send him a DVD with some of my matches so he could critique my work. He became my friend and mentor.

“When I got signed, I was actually sent to Deep South Wrestling…..Chris and I would train together, at the time he was on hiatus from his neck surgery. So as he was getting ready for his comeback, we’d have private workouts together at the Deep South training center just so he could take bumps and get back in ring shape. We’d hit the gym together. When I got called up, we would ride together. We became very close friends.

“I was recently on (Dave) Lagana’s podcast and I expressed this. In hindsight, Chris expressed a lot of things to me in confidence. There was a lot of inner turmoil. I didn’t realize at the time how bad. If your friend says to you ‘Sometimes I think I’m losing my mind. Sometimes I think I’m going crazy.’…..you don’t really expect that your friend is going crazy. Your just ‘ah, you’ll be alright, stick it out, hang in there, you know…’

“I was in Corpus Christi, Texas when the word came through that Chris, Nancy, and Daniel were dead. In my lifetime, I’ve lost a lot of friends to violent death, and I would have to say that this one hit me the hardest because in a short time, Chris and I became so incredibly close. It hurt me and affected me deeply.

“Chris wanted me to win the United States Championship at Wrestlemania and it was cool, we wound up having a longer storyline and did 3 pay-per-views. Chris….this was a guy, and Kaval used to come down to my house from New York to Miami to train together and watch these DVDs, and I went from sitting on my living room couch studying matches of Pegasus Kid and Liger to standing in Detroit at Wrestlemania in front of 80,000 wrestling the guy I used to study for the United States Championship……so you talk about surreal, literally a dream come true and that match doesn’t exist.

“That Wrestlemania match has been erased, but not to me. I’ll always remember it and the people who saw it remember it and people remind me all the time. That was the match that allowed people to know ‘Wow, MVP can go. He’s for real. He went hold for hold with Chris Benoit.’

What I want to express, it wasn’t steroids. My friend lost his mind. He was insane. Sane people don’t go home and kill their wife and kid. That’s not something a sane person does. In the autopsy, they found that he has severe brain damage, severe. I’m not making excuses, I’m just saying that in this nation every day, people snap and kill 30 people at a college campus or go into a grocery store, and we don’t say ‘Hey, that guy was on steroids’. We say, ‘This guy was mentally affected. There was some sort of mental lapse that took place that caused him to do that.’ And that’s what happened with my friend. So while WWE for PR purposes may want to erase his memory, in my heart he will always be very near and dear to me.”

Morrison Had Pinched Nerve: Will Miss Only 4-6 Weeks

John Morrison will be sidelined between four and six weeks after undergoing surgery today to alleviate pain caused by a pinched nerve in his neck, according to WWE.com.

Dr. Joseph Moroon, a renowned neurosurgeon and medical director for WWE, performed the procedure. He created a small incision in the back of Morrison’s neck and moved the bone as well as the C5 and C6 discs from around the nerve route.

“This is considered minimally invasive surgery,” said Dr. Christopher Amann, WWE’s senior ringside physician. “Unlike other procedures, such as those undergone by John Cena and Edge, the typical recovery time is four to six weeks.”

Kevin Nash Provides New Info Scott Hall’s Condition

Kevin Nash appeared on The LAW radio show on Sunday night and spoke very candidly about his longtime friend Scott Hall’s ongoing battle with substance abuse. The entire episode of The LAW can be heard at TheFightNetwork.com.

Related News: Hall In Very Bad Shape: Ex-Wife Gives Up After Final Attempt To Help

Here is what Kevin Nash said about Hall’s current state:

“These people will say things like ‘you need to have an intervention’ or someone said ‘you need to take Scott fishing without alcohol’ and no one grasps the severity of what this situation is. This is someone that has been to rehab nine times and probably walked out three to four times. He’s been in and out of hospitals for the last year and a couple of times – in Providence (for a recent independent show) – what happened was Scott took a really bad fall in his house and hurt his hip really badly and of course the promoter said Hall got off the plane in a wheelchair blah, blah, blah. I talked to Scott and Scott said ‘I never miss a shot and I’m going to make this shot’ and I told him he sounded horrible and he said ‘yeah’. Somas are the worst thing for wrestlers and I think they’ve killed more wrestlers than anything. He took some of those and hadn’t taken those in a long time and had a really bad reaction…they put him up there for 72-hours and the thing is Scott has been through so many hospitals, so many psych wards, evaluations and so many rehab centers that Scott knows every catch phrase and he knows exactly what the psychologist wants to hear and we’re all workers – that’s what we are and in 72-hours Scott is gone.”

“He’s at a place right now where the peaks and valleys are so incredibly high and low and the last week he’s been at a level spot, his health is bad. I think he went in and saw some doctors and he’s not going to walk in and get a gold label of health and when you get news from doctors that your heart isn’t functioning so well, this isn’t functioning well and this isn’t functioning well and to get all that news all in one day he went into a semi bender.”

“I can’t make Scott Hall want to live, I can’t make Scott Hall want to get better, I can’t make Scott want to repair his relationship with his children, I can’t make any of those things happen and the only one who can is Scott. When and if he does I will be the happiest person on earth. He always knows no matter what, day or night, if he needs me and really needs me or needs anything or anything of me or for him I will be there in an hour and he knows that. I can’t be his therapist, I can’t be his wife, I can’t be his rehabilitation specialist but I can be his friend. I think he needs friends more than he needs people telling him what he has to do or not to do. Lately it’s like the ninth inning, two out, a full count and they’ve walked into the baseball game and sitting in their seat and telling us what’s been going on in the game – I’ve been doing this for 17-years with Scott, you don’t just jump into the game and tell me what he needs to do because you haven’t been here, you haven’t lived it, you haven’t done that and Dana (Hall) has. A lot of people think she’s a crack pot but people forget she has two children with the man, that’s real flesh and blood and Cassidy and Cody are great kids and they deserve better but at the same time Scott – people think Scott’s problem is he likes to get drunk and likes to take drugs and he’s an addict and he’s not – he has post traumatic stress and had several incredibly horrible incidents happen in his early youth going on to his adolescence and early adulthood and he has had things happen to him that he cannot get through.”

“When you are trying to numb a memory that’s when you have a problem and you’re trying to forget something – that’s a problem. He’s not out being a rock star, he’s making things in his mind go away because he cannot shut it off and does it for days at a time and then when he does think about it he realizes the problem is still there.”
