WWE Planning Name Change, Triple H & Stephanie Attend Event

The company will be solely branded as WWE. Multiple sources indicate the meeting ended with this directive.

— Attempting to capitalize on American Idol contestant James Durbin’s noted wrestling fandom, World Wrestling Entertainment sent him a custom made spinner WWE “Spinner” belt. It was displayed on last night’s show with the name “Crazy James” engraved.

Sting Says He Rejected Offer To Face The Undertaker At WM27

Sting revealed in an interview with Daily Star that World Wrestling Entertainment officials approached and offered him a match with The Undertaker at WrestleMania XXVII, as well as induction into the WWE Hall of Fame.

He declined their offer.

“I wouldn’t say it was utter nonsense, that’s not true!” laughs Sting. “It’s a dream match that fans would want to see. It was close. I’m glad things turned out the way they did.

“There are so many variables. Let’s just say that I turned it down for the same reasons I always have. Something in me never trusted what would happen up there, based entirely on the track record with other WCW guys and everything that went on after Vince bought WCW.

“I wont be watching but I’ll be asking what happened between Undertaker and Triple H.”

Kong Spotted At Atlanta Airport, Cena Discusses WM Beginnings

— Former TNA Women’s Knockout Champion Awesome Kong was spotted today at Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport, reports Figure Four Weekly writer Bryan Alvarez.

— John Cena recalled his first appearance at WrestleMania, which took place in 2004, to MTV.com.

He squared off against Big Show for the United States Championship, but before his music hit and he walked through the curtain into the arena, he felt distracted.

“I was worried my car was going to get towed,” Cena said. “I was not allowed TK. It was cool because it was a moment of stardom wedged between reality. I truly love moments like that.”

He also offered Snooki advice for her match on Sunday. “I told her it’s just like an afternoon at the shore,” he said. “You’re supposed to go out and have a good time, and if trouble starts, just keep swinging until the cops come.”

Brock Lesnar Says He Wasn’t Contacted To Work WM27

After a face-to-face staredown with The Undertaker after his most recent UFC fight several months back, there was widespread speculation that Brock Lesnar was in talks with WWE to appear at Sunday’s WrestleMania 27 pay-per-view. In an interview with the UK’s Daily Star, Lesnar says the negotiation never happened .

“They were smart enough to know that I am deeply involved in UFC, what I am doing now.”

“Wrestling doesn’t affect my life so much. I’m a fighter. The WWE will go on, and it will always be there, but I am in the UFC for as far as I can see.”

While it’s clear Lesnar has no plans on returning to WWE any time soon, he didn’t rule out the possibility of appearing at a future WrestleMania event after his UFC days are over.

“If ever there was an opportunity in the future to be on Wrestlemania, then I guess I have to say: ‘Never say never.'”

Sunny Talks About Returning To WWE, Hall Of Fame & More

Former WWE diva Tammy “Sunny” Sytch was interviewed by Slam Wrestling this week about getting inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame on Saturday night. Here are some highlights of what Sunny said about: going into the WWE Hall of Fame this year. Here are some highlights:

Returning To WWE At MSG A Few Weeks Ago: “On Saturday, a stretch limo arrived at my house to pick me up and bring me into the city. When I got there, I had so much anxious energy that I was bouncing off the walls. Just before the match, I’m at the curtain when all the girls go out to the ring, and Stephanie McMahon comes over and said, ‘Why are you so nervous? This is old hat for you.’ And I said, ‘Yeah, but it’s been like 13 years since I worked this building.’ Well, as soon as my music hit I made the Sunny switch, and every little bit of nervousness left my body, and I went out there and did my thing. It all felt like I never left, and it was just so freakin’ cool!”

* Pictures of Sunny’s Return At MSG 2 Weeks Ago – She How She Looks!

Finding Out She Was Invited To Join The WWE HOF: “I already had it on while I was packing for my trip to Mexico, when all of a sudden the announcement of Shawn Michaels going into the hall of fame comes on. I said to Johnny Ace, ‘That’s great! Good for him, he deserves it,’ as I acted happier than a pig in poop. Then Johnny Ace goes, ‘Well, Vince [McMahon] and I were talking and we’d like you to be the second inductee.’ I paused, and then said, ‘You’re s**ttin’ me right?’ Then he says, ‘No, I’m not s**ttin’ you.’ So of course I started crying and shaking and freaking out. I was thinking to myself, ‘Oh my God, I’m only 38, and usually the people who go into the Hall of Fame are at least 50, or dead by the time they get inducted. All I could think was, ‘Holy crap, this is awesome!'”

Her Hall Of Fame Speech: “I already know that I’m going to totally screw up my speech. That’s 100 percent a given. As Sunny, if you give me a microphone and tell me to go out to the ring and cut a promo, no problem. But I’ve got to get up there and speak from the heart. It’s going to be 100 per cent real — not a work, not a gimmick, not an angle. And that’s how I know I won’t be able to keep it together. Because that’s not going to be Sunny up on that stage talking. It’s going to be Tammy talking. You know how I told you about that Sunny switch? Well, Tammy screws up a lot. Sunny never does. So without the Sunny switch turned on, I’m going to lose it and cry. Wish me luck.”

Edge Talks About Retirement, Life After Wrestling & More

WWE World heavyweight champion Edge was interviewed by the Charlotte Observer this week and shed some new light on how much longer he plans to be an active wrestler. Here are some highlights of what Edge said about:

TLC Matches From The Attitude Era: “I’m relieved I don’t have to do it as much. I still get called on to do it every once in a while. I had 19 ladder matches and most guys have never had one. It’s taken a toll. Now everyone understands I only have so many more of those in me.”

His First WrestleMania “The first one that I was on contract for I wasn’t (wrestling) on the show. I was trying to soak it in. For the guys, it’s a huge buildup. You’re really ramped up. It’s our Super Bowl. You worked your whole year to get on the show. That’s what I realized not being on it. The following year at WrestleMania 16, Christian and I teamed up and won the tag-team championship. We grew up together and always dreamed of doing it.”

When He’ll Retire: “Maybe a couple years. Five? It’s up to my body, which also depends on the kinds of matches…. I want to be able to function and walk and hike these hills.”

What He’ll Do After Wrestling: “I might do a sports talk show up in Canada. Maybe working behind the scenes of WWE. Beyond that, writing and illustrating children’s books would be fun.”

*Spoilers* WWE SmackDown Tapings Results For Friday

The following matches were taped prior to Monday’s RAW from the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois. The rest of the show will consist of footage from WWE’s week-long festivities from Atlanta, site of Sunday’s WrestleMania 27 pay-per-view.

1. Kofi Kingston defeated Wade Barrett by DQ in an Intercontinental Title match. Wade controlled most of the early action. Kofi hit his corner kick and a top rope cross body for a two count. Kofi hit the Boom Drop and went for Trouble in Paradise but was met with a kick to the face for a near fall. Kofi hit a nice move and almost had a two count that was broken up by The Corre. Santino and Kozlov hit the ring but were laid out. Big pyro for Kane and Big Show. The faces cleared the ring and had a stare down with The Corre.

Jerry Lawler out to cut a promo against Michael Cole. Good promo by Lawler. Short and to the point. The King has new music.

2. Cody Rhodes defeated Chris Masters. Taz… er … Kane… No, it’s Cody Rhodes under a black towel. Gimmick Infringement!!! Cole returned during this match (he left prior to Jerry’s promo). Seemed slightly longer than the recent Cody squashes. In the end, a side headbutt and CrossRhodes later and Cody got the win. Rey Mysterio ran down and tried to hit the 619 three different times, but Cody wasn’t having it.

The Rock Says He’s “Very Open” To Wrestling Again

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson says he’s “very open” to wrestling again after returning to World Wrestling Entertainment last month.

The host of WrestleMania XXVII appeared on Piers Morgan Tonight tonight on CNN. Piers Morgan asked Johnson whether he plans on wrestling again.

“I’m open to it,” Johnson said.

Morgan asked, “You are?”

“Very open to it. Sure. I’ve always been open to it,” he replied.

“When I left wrestling seven years ago, at that time, two things happened. I accomplished everything I wanted to accomplish in wrestling and I also wanted to become a good actor. In order to do that, I felt, I needed to concentrate solely and commit myself to acting.”

The approximate 30 minute interview, which was taped two days earlier in New York City, featured Johnson reflecting his life, career and future aspirations. It opened with a discussion of Johnson’s background and his connection to United States President Barack Obama due to both sharing similar backgrounds. A clip of Johnson portraying “The Rock Obama” two years ago on Saturday Night Live aired.

Johnson was asked to comment on running for a political office in the future and he said he could see it happening in the future after his career in entertainment.

The second segment focused on Johnson’s careers in professional wrestling and film. A clip of Johnson’s return promo to WWE aired with Johnson shown watching it.

Johnson reflected on his future aspirations in the third segment. He discussed his family upbringing, repairing his relationship with his father, and setting new goals for himself, such as winning an Academy Award.

Warrior Advertised For Heavy Metal Album, Sunny’s HOF Inductor

— Heavy metal band Winds of Plague’s upcoming album will feature a guest appearance by former WWE Champion Ultimate Warrior. He provides a spoken word track called “The Warrior’s Code.”

Warrior and the band share the same management company, which is likely how the two unionized. “Against The World” is scheduled for release on Tuesday, April 19.

— Tammy Sytch (a/k/a Sunny) stated yesterday during an interview on SIRIUS Satellite Radio that her WWE Hall of Fame inductor would be a surprise. When asked if it was male or female, the WWE public relations representative who accompanied her would not allow her to answer the question. Current plans call for the WWE Divas to together induct Sunny into the Hall of Fame. Sunny is being branded as “The Original Diva.”

— The Score in Canada will air the WWE Hall Of Fame Induction Ceremony on April 5 at 6:30 p.m., April 8 at 7:00 p.m. and April 8 at 11:00 p.m.

Bruno Sammartino Says “Never Say Never” About WWE HOF

Wrestling legend Bruno Sammartino spoke to Atlanta’s Creative Loafing publication this week and was asked once again why he will not accept a WWE invitation to join the Hall of Fame.

“First of all, when they started all this garbage with the nudity and these girls always having accidents where a bra will fall off or whatever, then the vulgarity and the Kiss My Butt Club, and the profanity that they use and stuff like that, I find all that appalling and I was very, very outspoken. Then the drug use, of course, was the most appalling for me. So what kind of a person would I be to accept that ridiculous Hall of Fame after being as outspoken as I was? I think it would be very hypocritical on my part and I would never accept that because I don’t believe in it.”

He did however, leave a faint possibility of him working with WWE again as part of the Hall of Fame:

“I guess one should never say never, but I would have to see an awful lot of change before I would even think of it. A lot more than what I’m seeing now.”

Considering how far WWE has come toning down their product as part of the current “PG era,” one has to wonder how much more change Sammartino is looking for before he’s willing to consider entering the Hall of Fame.

The Rock Says He’s Going To Kick Ass At WrestleMania

WWE star The Rock was interviewed by MTV News this week to hype WrestleMania and said we can expect to see him get physical this Sunday night:

“I’m going to take my fist and lay it across somebody’s lips and take my boot — which is a size 14, so it’s a big boot — and stick it straight up somebody’s ass.”

When asked who he might get phyiscal with he said, “Like with any show, like with any movie, you want to make sure the final five, 10 minutes of the show are worth every penny.”

Tough Enough Cast Members: Meet The Contestants

Here’s a look at the full cast of the new season of WWE Tough Enough:

Snooki Talks About Training For WM27, Trish Talks LayCool

– The Hollywood Reporter had an article up yesterday about how Snooki was boo’d at the WrestleMania 27 press conference in New York City. Regarding her training for WrestleMania, she said:

“It kind of came naturally to me. I did gymnastics for eight years, and I have been cheerleading since middle school … I am going to rehearse this weekend for Mania and will incorporate my gymnastics skills.”

Snooki also said she used to watch WWE because she thought a former star was attractive but stopped watching:

“When they gave me this opportunity, I started watching it again to see what I would do and what’s happening,. And I really enjoyed it.”

– Snooki’s tag team partner this Sunday, Trish Stratus, was interviewed this week by Diva-Dirt.com and had this to say about Michelle McCool and Layla El, who they will face this Sunday in a 6-person mixed tag match also involving John Morrison and Dolph Ziggler:

“The opportunity came up to work with LayCool, which I’m so excited about. I mean they’ve done such great work, people love to hate them. As a fan, I’ve sat back and I’ve watched, especially Layla , watched them grow into great workers. They’ve put in the work to develop their characters.”

WWE Banking On The Rock, Snooki & Social Media To Sell WM27

WWE is hoping that the addition of The Rock and Snooki to WrestleMania 27 will help them break 1 million pay-per-view buys. They’re also hoping that the use of social media like Facebook and Twitter will influence people to order the show.

In an interview with Multi-Channel News this week, WWE’s Chief Marketing Officer Michelle Wilson said that WWE is firmly behind the idea of using social media (specifically Facebook and Twitter).

Wilson said they were trying to bring back former fans with The Rock and new fans with the Snooki storyline.

Wilson talked about fans being able to go to The Rock’s Facebook page for his response to what John Cena did to him on RAW.

She said, “That allows us to continue the storyline even after we’re off the air. It’s really a 24-hour engagement that our fans have with the WWE going into WrestleMania.”

Randy Orton Says He Is Uncomfortable As A Babyface

WWE RAW superstar Randy Orton spoke with Kevin Eck of The Baltimore Sun week to hype Sunday’s WrestleMania pay-per-view. Here are some highlights of what Orton said about:

Is He Comfortable As a Babyface: “Absolutely not. I’m definitely growing as a good guy, as a babyface. I’ve got to walk a fine line, Kevin, because as a bad guy, as a heel, I go so comfortable in that role, I think I eventually earned the respect of the fans. And it wasn’t some master plan to become a good guy one day. I was dead set on being a heel the rest of my career. I figured there’s no way I’ll ever be a good guy. But the fans, they’re powerful, and when they speak together like they did, I started getting positive reactions. I’d be in the ring with a babyface as a heel, but they’d be chanting for me. It’s just one of those things where I just had to make the switch. But I think where I succeeded this time, where I failed back in’04 after I became the youngest champ in history and became babyface, I didn’t change too much. I think that’s very important. That respect I earned from the fans as a bad guy, I don’t want to lose that. And if all of a sudden I’m coming out and I’m trying to be like John Cena, that typical white meat babyface, kissing babies, hugging grandmas, slapping high-five swith everybody in the front row, that’s not going to work. If I come out pumping my fist and smiling, it’s going to make people want to barf. So I really had to walk that fine line and change, but just change enough to where it works for me and my character.”

How He Feels Not Being In One Of The top Matches At WrestleMania: “It’s a good question, but I believe in every Mania, every pay-per-view, Raw, Smackdown or live event I’m in, my goal – and I would hope that everyone else’s goal on the roster – would be to the steal the show, and the pressure is always there. Whether it’s a stage like WrestleMania or another pay-per-view or just TV or a live event, you’ve still got the same fans out there. The WWE Universe is watching and you’ve got to perform. You’ve got to live up to the expectations that you have laid out. Me and CM Punk, we’re not fighting for a title, but if you look back, we’ve got a three-year story line in the making. I cost him the WWE championship back in ’08 when I was returning from a collar bone injury just after the birth of my daughter. I remember it vividly. I punted him in the back of the head backstage on a day when he was champ and was going to defend the title at a pay-per-view. He wasn’t able to even perform in the match because I kicked him in the head, cost him the title. If I was him I would have done the same thing. He came back at the Rumble, cost me the title, but as far as I’m concerned, that made us even. Anything after that, I’m sorry, Phil Brooks, CM Punk. I’m going to destroy him April 3 at WrestleMania XXVII. That’s just how it’s going to go.”

Wrestlers Having Tour Buses & How It Helps Their Marriages: “A lot of guys actually don’t travel by tour bus ; there’s five of us. I think to be able to be at a point in your career where you’ve earned it and you can afford it, I think anyone would be stupid not to do it. What the tour bus does for me – my family coming with me, that’s just the cherry on top – I don’t have to travel 200 and 300 miles a night driving till 3 or 4 a.m. looking for that Denny’s that’s open or that drive-thru at McDonald’s and getting a couple chicken sandwiches and taking the bun off and shoving it down my throat. I got a kitchen, king-size bed, a couple TVs, a washer and dryer, a shower, a bathroom, deep sinks – I’m set. I can travel anywhere around the country, and I can get flat after a match. I think the biggest thing when it comes to injuries and stuff, travel has a big part in that. Because after a match, guys hit the road and they’re in a sitting position. They’re not able to ice up or do whatever they have to do therapy-wise. Being in a car driving like that, it’s just not good on your back, and our backs take a lot of abuse with all the bumps we take in the ring. Our body in general takes a hell of a beating, and that bus allows me to recover – that’s the biggest thing right there. It’s worth every penny because I’m able to recover more than I would in a rental car. Waiting in lines, looking for hotels, reserving rental cars, just plugging in an address into your GPS and hoping that address eventually leads you to a gym and not some middle of the subdivision where the address was wrong. There are lots of things that go into that bus that make it worth its weight in gold, but the No. 1 thing for me is the recovery time that I get having the bus that I didn’t have in the rental cars.”

* The WWE Superstars and Divas arrived in limousines and most of them had Make-A-Wish kids as their dates.

JR Blog: His Role At WM27, Main Event, Cole-Lawler, The Rock

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross has updated his blog, which you can read in its entirety over at JRsBarBQ.com. This latest blog has a WrestleMania theme – here are some highlights of what JR wrote about:

His Potential Role at WrestleMania: “I have no ‘assignment’ for Sunday but I’m channeling Ricky Vaughn, Charlie Sheen’s character in the film ‘Major League,’ and assuming the role of the relief pitcher while standing by in the bullpen and ready to ‘throw the heater, Ricky’ if needed.”

Whether The Rock Will Get Physical: “Someone asked me if I thought @TheRock was going to get physically involved Sunday on PPV in the Miz vs. Cena WWE Title Bout. Facetiously, I answered “Oh, no Rock’s going to turn the other cheek and let bygones be bygones.” If Rock doesn’t get physical Sunday in some shape, form or fashion I will allow burnt orange to be displayed in our home.”

Which Match Will Close The Show: “What match will close the show Sunday? Whether it is The Streak or the WWE Title the WWE seems to be destined to be ‘damned if they do and damned if they don’t’ with this one. I’d be a Streak lean but closing the show with the WWE Title, Rock, etc would work for me as well.”

Michael Cole vs. Jerry Lawler: “People have asked me for a prediction on the Lawler vs Cole match. Really. Really? Lawler wins in a ‘quicker than a hiccup’ bout and King won’t need Stone Cold to get it done. The thought of having to broadcast a Cole victory would be more annoying than an irritable bowel. Thank goodness that chore or possibility thereof will be left up to others or so it seems.”

CM Punk & Stone Cold Beef Blows Up On Twitter

Nexus leader CM Punk and WWE Hall of Famer “Stone Cold” Steve Austin had a strong exchange of words on Twitter on Wednesday, with Punk challenging Austin to a fight.

It all started when Paul Heyman’s site The Heyman Hustle posted a fantasy matchup between Austin and Punk as part of their promotion of the WWE All Stars video game, which came out yesterday from THQ. (Buy It Here from Amazon.com).

In a followup to the story, Punk tweeted the following:

I like how THQ acts like they don’t know what would happen if @steveaustinBSR and I were to lock horns. Everybody knows. SXE > Beer. “

Punk followed up with: GTS > stunner.

Within 3 minutes, Punk’s tweet earned over a hundred re-tweets. It was trending throughout North America within two hours. It trended globally this morning.

Austin replied to punk – and says he’s got a can a whoop ass with Punk’s name on it:

@CMPunk alright Punk…you just crossed the line…i’ll be seeing your ass in Atlanta.

@CMPunk Alright son…I’m about to get off this treadmill and RUN to Atlanta..bringing some extra cans of Whoop Ass!!! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

@CMPunk What are you doing son, asking for advice/lessons etc.? I’ll give your pierced lipped ass a couple lessons when I see you. Out.

Cody Rhodes Plans To Unmask Rey Mysterio At WrestleMania

SmackDown star Cody Rhodes was interviewed this week by CLATL.com to hype his WrestleMania 27 match with Rey Mysterio. Here are some highlights of what Rhodes said about:

Wrestling Rey Mysterio At WrestleMania: “I haven’t had the opportunity to say this much, but I’m only 25, so at the time that Rey Mysterio was in World Championship Wrestling having these marathon excellent matches with Dean Malenko, I was a kid sitting on the floor watching. There’s a time to be a fan and a time to be a professional, and I’ve tried to remain professional as we move forward. But if I sit back and think about it, regardless of any personal feelings I may have about it, it’s a real privilege to be in there with Rey Mysterio. He’s one of the staples of the WWE and a staple of WrestleMania.”

Whether Dusty Will Be In His Corner At WM27: “I hope that he will mentally be in my corner, but my dad likes the young talent to shine. It was really nice to have him in Sacramento when he came out on “SmackDown,” but he’s stayed out of things moving forward, and I think that’s the way he wants it. He might be in the front row, he might be backstage, but he will probably be there in spirit.

There’s sort of an underlying thing at WrestleMania this year that not a lot of people are talking about. You’re seeing a lot of veteran superstars, Rey Mysterio included, a lot of WWE greats, most of whom are going to be Hall of Famers themselves, against new talent. It’s a younger crop of talent when you look at the Miz vs. John Cena, Alberto Del Rio vs. Edge and myself vs. Rey Mysterio. So, [my dad] is respecting that night as well. It might be a changing of the guard at WrestleMania XXVII and that would be a really special thing.”

Plans To Unmask Rey Mysterio: “Thank you for asking a question that has not been asked of me as I’ve done multiple interviews heading toward WrestleMania. I’m going on record and making a Muhammad Ali-style guarantee that, yeah, I am going to take his mask off at WrestleMania. I genuinely am going to remove his mask. I am making that known now. It is an unbreakable vow for me and I will follow through with that.”

In case you haven’t seen Rey Unmasked from his WCW days, here’s his face:
