Pete Dunne has passed a major milestone in his short WWE career thus far. As you may have already guessed the ‘Bruiserweight’ has spent a full calendar year as WWE’s United Kingdom Champion.
With the NXT UK brand now official but still in it’s infancy Dunne has not been made to defend the title a whole lot. Pete Dunne originally won the title back at NXT Takeover: Chicago on May 20th in 2017 against Tyler Bate. That match won critical acclaim and helped to establish the UK talent and brand to hardcore NXT fans.
Some other Superstars to go a full year include CM Punk, who was WWE Champion throughout 2012. Punk of course defended his title quite a few more times than Dunne was made to. Gillberg also held on to the Light Heavyweight Championship throughout 1999 and Rockin’ Robin held the Women’s Championship throughout 1989.
There are also two other Champions who started and ended the year as title holders. Brock Lesnar started 2018 as the Universal Champion and ended the year with the belt after beating Braun Strowman. The Undisputed Era also held the NXT Tag Team Championships at the start of 2018 and recaptured their belts on June 21st from Tyler Bate and Trent Seven of Moustache Mountain.
