Rey Mysterio recently reflected on his brief WWE Championship reign in an interview with Adrian Hernandez, acknowledging a key weakness in his game—his mic skills.
When asked about winning the title only to lose it the same night, Mysterio admitted that his connection with fans has always been driven by his in-ring performance rather than his promos.
“I’ve never been a promo guy… My attraction with my fans has always been what I bring to the ring, and I recognize that,” Mysterio said.
“When you carry the company in that way, you have to be good on the mic, and that’s something I never really strived to work on.”
Rey Mysterio won his first WWE Championship by defeating The Miz in a tournament final on July 25, 2011. His reign would become one of the shortest in WWE history, lasting only 1 hour and 52 minutes before losing the title to John Cena on the same night. (Full Match)
While he doesn’t regret his career choices, Mysterio acknowledged that he wishes he had spent more time developing his character beyond just his in-ring work.
Despite this, the love he receives from fans worldwide proves that his legacy remains intact, with or without lengthy title reigns.
