RVD has had a long relationship with Sabu. It goes all the way back to their days in the original ECW where the two not only had an iconic feud but later formed a team together as well.
The former WWE champion recently had an interview with Sports Illustrated to promote the upcoming WWE Icons special highlighting his illustrious career.
During the interview, RVD talked about his matches with Sabu and explained why he thinks the hardcore legend does not get the recognition that he deserves:
“I hope he eventually gets the recognition that he deserves. He’s done a lot. He’s an innovator, he’s different. It was hard for him to fit into a corporate element. I think he walked out or quit from every important position he’s ever had.
“He’s had to do it his way. That’s keeping him from being in the position he should be post-wrestling.” said RVD, “Not that he’s done wrestling, but I am very grateful for all this recognition. He deserves that, too.”
RVD also revealed that at one time he had offers from both WWE and WCW but he stayed with ECW because he wanted the company to grow.
Apart from this, the wrestling veteran talked about the other highlights of his ECW run including his 700-days long reign as the ECW TV champion, his matches with opponents such as Jerry Lynn and more.
WWE Icons: RVD will premiere on WWE Network this Sunday on 10 PM ET.
