WWE SMACKDOWN SPOILERS (AIRDATE: AUGUST 16, 2013)
-Lilian Garcia comes out first to a nice reaction from the fans in San Jose. Out next were the announce team, which consisted of Michael Cole and JBL.
-The SmackDown show for this week opened with The Wyatt Family coming out to the ring. The Wyatt Family received an enormous pop from the crowd. We see a video package, highlighting the history of the Wyatt Family feud with Kane. After the video package, Bray Wyatt cut a promo while sitting in his rocking chair in the middle of the ring. Out of nowhere, Kane’s pyro exploded and he appeared behind Wyatt. Kane proceeded to attack Wyatt, however the numbers-game caught up with Kane, and the three-on-one beatdown began. The Wyatt Family beat Kane down and left him laying in the ring to end the opening segment.
-Christian defeated Damien Sandow via Pinfall. Christian picked up the victory with a roll-up for the 1-2-3. After the match, Christian hit Sandow with a spear. This led to Alberto Del Rio coming out and attacking Christian from behind. Del Rio tells Christian he will never win the World Heavyweight Championship again. As Del Rio attempted to continue the onslaught on Christian, setting him up for his Cross Arm-Breaker finishing hold, Christian managed to escape and reverse it into the Killswitch. Christian then left Del Rio laying as he had the upper-hand.
-We shoot backstage and new WWE interview girl Renee Young is with Rob Van Dam. Van Dam talks about the United States Championship match he’ll have against current champion and Shield leader Dean Ambrose at the WWE SummerSlam Kickoff Show this Sunday. RVD is then joined backstage by Mark Henry and The Big Show. Apparently all three will team up tonight to take on the trio of Ambrose, Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns – The Shield.
-A.J. Lee and Layla defeated Kaitlyn and Natalya via Pinfall. The finish in this Divas Tag-Team match came when current WWE Divas Champion A.J. hit Kaitlyn with a running knee to the temple for the 1-2-3.
-We shoot backstage again, and this time Young is with Ryback. Ryback cut a short promo and then out of nowhere decided to attack some random producer who happened to be walking around backstage. Ryback beat the guy up for no apparent reason other than the fact that he’s a bully.
-Rob Van Dam, Mark Henry and Big Show defeated Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns via Pinfall. Was said to be a very good match that was given a lot of time to play out. RVD worked his ass off in this one. Crowd ate up every minute of it. The finish here came when Big Show hit Ambrose with the Knockout Punch, which led to Van Dam coming off the top-rope with the Five Star Frog Splash for the 1-2-3.
-The Miz defeated Jack Swagger (with Antonio Cesaro and Zeb Colter) via Pinfall. At one point during the match, the referee ejected both Cesaro and Colter from ringside, forcing them to head to the back and leave Swagger alone with Miz in the ring. The finish came when Miz rolled up Swagger from behind for the 1-2-3.
-Curtis Axel (with Paul Heyman) defeated Zack Ryder via Pinfall. The crowd went nuts for Ryder, to the surprise of nobody. Was said to be a pretty damn good match. The finish came when Axel hit Ryder with his Neckbreaker Finishing move for the 1-2-3. After the match, Paul Heyman cut a promo. We don’t have a lot of specifics on the promo, although Heyman’s focus was about how Punk would lose this Sunday at SummerSlam to “The Beast,” who is also “The Best” – Brock Lesnar.
-Daniel Bryan defeated Wade Barrett in a No Disqualification Match via Pinfall. A whole lot of action went down in this match, which served as the main event of the evening. Early on in the match, Vince McMahon came to ringside. As Bryan had Barrett in the Yes! Lock submission hold, McMahon interfered and pulled the referee out of the ring before he could call for the bell to give Bryan the win. This allowed Barrett to gain the upper-hand in the offensive momentum of the match. McMahon called out Brad Maddox to the ring, and Maddox came down with a referee shirt on and entered the ring. Barrett hit Bryan with his finishing move, The Bull Hammer, but Bryan managed to kick out of the pinfall attempt that followed. As McMahon started to take the referee shirt off of the original referee, Mike Chioda, the wonderful sound of Motorhead hit the louder speakers, as Triple H made his way to the ring. This led to Bryan putting Barrett through a table. Bryan then followed up with a flying headbutt off the top-rope and HHH, who will serve as the referee for the Bryan vs. John Cena main event at SummerSlam this Sunday, made the count. 1-2-3. Bryan wins. After the match, the WWE Championship Money In The Bank briefcase owner, Randy Orton, came out to the top of the stage and stared down Bryan as the show went off the air.
