Triple H’s music played and he walked onto the stage with Stephanie McMahon. Michael Cole, JBL, and Byron Saxton checked in on commentary and narrated still shots of the Undertaker vs. Brock Lesnar match from Hell in a Cell, including the Wyatt Family taking Taker away.

In the ring, Hunter and Stephanie gushed over Hell in a Cell and noted that Alberto Del Rio beat John Cena to become the new U.S. Champion. Hunter spoke about how HIAC featured the emergence of the next generation of superstars. Huh? Stephanie introduced Seth Rollins as the best example of this.

Hunter and Stephanie raved about Rollins defeating everyone that they put in front of him. Hunter said he ousted Kane as the director of operations and made WWE better in the process. They both told him they are proud of him. Rollins hugged them both and then said he’s speechless for the first time ever.

Rollins told the crowd to give it up for The Authority. Stephanie said that Rollins is the greatest superstar of his generation and is headed for the WWE Hall of Fame. She said they put them in a tough spot because he’s beaten everyone there is to beat. Hunter said the next challenger has to earn the right to step in the ring with Rollins.

Triple H announced that they will take the winners from HIAC and put them against one another and then they will meet in a four-way with the winner becoming the No. 1 contender. Rollins started to say that’s best for business, but he was interrupted.

Roman Reigns made his entrance through the crowd and joined the trio inside the ring. Reigns said the whole scene was making him sick. He mocked the idea of Rollins being WWE Hall of Fame bound. Reigns said that after tonight he will be the number one contender. “And I’m taking that championship,” he said. “Believe that.” Stephanie McMahon added, “Well, then, let the games begin”

WWE World Title Number One Contender Qualifying Match
– Roman Reigns vs. Kofi Kingston

Before the match, New Day cut a promo on their way to the ring about how the biggest difference between them and Reigns is that they are champions and he is not. Reigns performed a neck breaker on Kingston, who rolled to ringside.

Kingston got his offensive run as the broadcast team spoke about Reigns being weary from the Hell in a Cell match. Reigns fought back with punches and a headbutt. Kingston came back and performed a double ax-handle off the top rope. JBL questioned whether Kingston ended up facing Reigns on the right night.

Reigns came back and threw ten clotheslines in the corner as the crowd counted along. Reigns threw Kingston across the ring, then ran into a kick. Reigns rolled up Kingston, then picked him up at two and slammed him down for a two count. Big E tried to get involved, but Reigns knocked him off the apron. Kingston went for Trouble in Paradise, but Reigns ducked it and then speared him and pinned him.

Roman Reigns beat Kofi Kingston in 12:45 to advance to the four-way match.

Backstage, The Miz had a group of anonymous people gathered to watch him play the new WWE video game as Steve Austin… Cole hyped exclusive content will be unveiled on WWE’s social media platforms… The broadcast team narrated still shots of Alberto Del Rio beating John Cena to win the U.S. Championship with Zeb Colter in his corner. Cole hyped Del Rio vs. Neville, Big E vs. Dolph Ziggler, and Cesaro vs. Kevin Owens as the other qualifying matches.

WWE World Title Number One Contender Qualifying Match
– Cesaro vs. Kevin Owens

Owens got a pre-tape talking about winning both titles. Owens jumped out to the early advantage with punches and then played to the crowd by saying, “That’s why I’m the best.” Owens taunted Cole before Cesaro came back with a suplex.

Cesaro had a nice offensive run coming out the break. Owens came back with a backslide for a two count. Cesaro came back with his springboard spinning uppercut. They were caught up in the ropes or a second. Owens caught a distracted Cesaro with a kick and then delivered the Pop-Up Powerbomb for the win…

Kevin Owens defeated Cesaro to advance to the four-way match.
