This week’s episode of Smackdown kicked off with Randy Orton coming down to the ring with a great response from the crowd. Orton proceeded to cut a promo on Bray Wyatt. Orton claimed that Bray Wyatt was afraid and that is why he resorts to mind-games. Orton stated that Wyatt was afraid of him and dared Wyatt to come down to the ring.
Wyatt then showed up with a video promo and brought up Orton’s two kids. Wyatt once again referred to himself as a god. Wyatt then sang he’s got the whole world in his hands and the crowd sang along with him. Wyatt then laughed and the promo ended. Orton took off backstage to look for Wyatt and that was the end of the segment.

Heath Slater, Rhyno & American Alpha vs The Usos & The Ascension
Chad Gable started out the match by attacking Jimmy Uso. Jason Jordan continued the beatdown of Jimmy Uso. American Alpha looked dominant early on in the match. The momentum turned when Jey Uso hit a Chop-Block on Gable’s injured leg outside the ring.
When Smackdown returned from a commercial break, The Ascension were in control of the match. Chad Gable was trapped in the corner as The Ascension took turns beating him down. Gable went to tag in Jordan but The Ascension took him pulled him off the ring apron. Rhyno then laid out both members of The Ascension.
Gable tagged in Heath Slater and the crowd went bananas. Slater took out Jey Uso with a Neckbreaker but Jey kicked out at two. The Usos then took out Slater’s knee the same way they did to Chad Gable a few weeks ago. Heath Slater then tapped out to a Single Leg Boston Crab.
Winners: The Usos & The Ascension

Naomi & Nikki Bella vs Carmella & Natalya
Natalya was dominant early on in this match and she did that bizarre “yay!” scream several times. Naomi was trapped in the corner and took a beating from Carmella and Natalya. Carmella was getting frustrated with the referee because Naomi kept kicking out of everything. Natalya was tagged in and she continued the attack on Naomi.
Naomi finally tagged in Nikki Bella and she quickly attacked Natalya. Carmella kicked Nikki in the back but Bella was unfazed. Nikki Bella was beating down Carmella but out of nowhere Carmella rolled Nikki up for the pinfall victory.

Randy Orton was once again shown waltzing around backstage. Bray Wyatt apparently spent the day writing messages on the wall. One of them read “I am a God”. Orton then came upon a life-size cut out of Orton with the eyes cut out. Then he opened a door with “predator or prey” written on it. Erick Rowan was hiding on the other side of the door but Orton opted not to go inside the room. Orton walked away and Rowan jiggled the door handle.
Reaction: The first hour of Smackdown was a snooze-fest. There were a couple of pointless tag team matches and the heels won both of them. Bray Wyatt’s haunted house sucks. There are no Jack-o’-lanterns or anything.
There are TWO DOORS, but only ONE WAY OUT! Choose wisely, @RandyOrton…. #SDLive @ErickRowan @WWEBrayWyatt pic.twitter.com/CXna7z0kBB

The Miz cut a promo and insulted his hometown crowd of Cleveland. He referred to Lebron James as a traitor and the crowd booed him out of the building. The Miz then instructed the crowd the applaud his parents. Dolph Ziggler’s parents were also in the building and The Miz stated that it must be hard for them to live with the fact that they created a loser. Dolph Ziggler came down and confronted The Miz.
The Miz continued to insult Ziggler. Miz stated that Ziggler should be embarrassed of his career because all he does is lose matches. Ziggler then challenged The Miz to another match for the Intercontinental Championship. Ziggler had tears in his eyes and stated that he will put up his entire career. The Miz accepted the challenge. At No Mercy it will be Dolph Ziggler versus The Miz for the Intercontinental Championship. If Ziggler loses he will have to retire.
Reaction: This was a good segment. The Miz and Ziggler showed a lot of passion in their promo. It is nice to see the Intercontinental Championship actually get a storyline that means something. However, I just have a hard time getting excited for yet another match between The Miz and Ziggler. Hopefully this one delivers at No Mercy.
Great promo by Ziggler. I felt his pain and passion…. best one of his career.#SDLive

Bray Wyatt was shown cutting a promo on Orton backstage and calling Randy a coward. Orton then crept up behind Wyatt in a sheep’s mask and attacked Bray. Wyatt then scampered away. Orton put on the mask and started singing that he has got the whole world in his hands. The footage then slowed down and got choppy. It then showed Wyatt on the screen. It was a bizarre promo to say the least. It was difficult to tell if their was a production issue at the end of the promo or if they were just trying to be creepy. WWE shared the promo on their twitter account but cut it before Wyatt was shown at the end.
Just like @WWEBrayWyatt says, there comes a point when the PREDATOR becomes the PREY…. @RandyOrton #SDLive pic.twitter.com/cnVZDaSTma

WWE World Championship Match: AJ Styles (c) vs Dean Ambrose
John Cena joined the announcer’s table for this match. The match started out back and forth. Ambrose launched himself off of the top rope and hit Styles with an elbow outside the ring. When Smackdown returned from a commercial, Styles had captured momentum. Styles locked in the Calf Crusher on Amrbose in the middle of the ring. Ambrose bounced the head of Styles off of the mat several times and the he finally broke the hold.
Ambrose hit a Swinging Neckbreaker on Styles. The two then got up and traded punches. Styles got Ambrose in the Torture Rack and then slammed him to the mat. Ambrose hung Styles up on the top rope and then hit a massive Lethal Lariat. Styles recovered and hit a Pele Kick on Ambrose. Styles went for a Springboard 450 but Ambrose rolled out of the way and Styles hit the mat hard.
Styles laid Ambrose out with a Running Knee outside the ring. Styles then punched Cena in the face. The action spilled back into the ring where Ambrose rolled up Styles but the referee was distracted by Cena trying to get into the ring. Ambrose then punched Cena in the face outside the ring. When Ambrose got back into the ring, Styles rolled him up for the victory.
After the match, Ambrose was yelling at Cena because he cost him the match. Ambrose went for the Dirty Deeds but Cena reversed it into an Attitude Adjustment. Styles then attacked Cena from behind and went for the Styles Clash but Cena also reversed that into an Attitude Adjustment. The show went off air with Cena standing tall and raising the WWE Championship.

Reaction: The first hour of Smackdown was a bore but business picked up in the second hour. The main-event for No Mercy is more interesting than anything happening on Monday Night Raw. John Cena is trying to tie Ric Flair at 16 championships. Styles will do anything to make sure that he remains the WWE Champion. Ambrose feels like he was robbed of his title and his character has become more interesting. I feel like it is only a matter of time before Ambrose turns heel and I think that will only help him.
Overall, this was just an okay episode of Smackdown. The Miz and Ziggler stole the show and the main-event was solid. The rest of the show was random tag team matches and Randy Orton walking around backstage looking for Wyatt. I still have a difficult time getting into the Orton and Wyatt feud. Even though Smackdown wasn’t all that great this week, it still was better than last night’s episode of Monday Night Raw.
