Young Bucks Talk AEW Dynamite Viewership, Competing With NXT

AEW comfortably exceeded the expectations of Turner Executives by topping 1 million viewers each of the first three weeks of Dynamite

As we gear up for Week 4 of AEW Dynamite on TNT, TV Insider has published an interview with All Elite Wrestling stars The Young Bucks.

Nick and Matt Jackson recently spoke with Scott Fishman about a wide variety of topics, including AEW’s creative process being a collaborative effort, dealing with unforeseen circumstance at live TV, the AEW Tag Team Championship tournament, balancing their personal and professional lives and more.

During the discussion, they also discussed TNT’s expectations for AEW Dynamite’s weekly viewership. After a very strong outing for the series premiere back on October 2nd, Dynamite has settled in around 1 million viewers for the two most recent shows.

Matt Jackson of the Young Bucks reveals that AEW blew away the expectations of TNT executives out the gate, but they understand it will be an ongoing effort to keep numbers at the current range.

“I heard the expectations were possibly in the 400 or 500,000 range,” Matt Jackson said. “The fact we crossed a million was great. I think opening we expected a big number. I don’t know if we expected the number, we got in 1.4. Of course, a week or two after there will always be a drop. We expected that.”

He continued, “If we can keep around a million, we’d be thrilled. That would be amazing. We’re such a brand-new thing for [TNT]. The next week is tough with Major League Baseball, NBA coming up. We understand that. This whole thing is a whirlwind. We are thrilled right now.”

Jackson also commented on AEW going head-to-head with NXT every Wednesday night. They wish all the best to the competition, but they’re (understandably) focused on building their own audience week after week.

“Of course, you think about the other wrestling playing that night. And you want to best them, and the fact we are is great. We are also not taking that for granted because they have a great show too. Right now, we have one step foot forward and think about our brand, our television show and making it the best we can make it.”
