The 2016 WWE Roadblock special event from Toronto, Ontario, Canada opens up with a video package first focusing on the Triple H vs. Dean Ambrose match. The video then highlights the Brock Lesnar vs. Bray Wyatt match.
After the video package, we are welcomed live into the arena in Toronto by Michael Cole. From there, we hear The New Day on the house mic as the WWE Tag-Team Champions make their way to the ring.
WWE Tag-Team Titles:
– The New Day (c) vs. Sheamus & King Barrett
The New Day makes their way to the ring as we are welcomed to the announce table where Cole, JBL and Byron Saxton formally welcome us to the show. Meanwhile, Xavier Woods plays the trombone as the crowd chants “New Rock rocks!”
Big E., Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods cut a promo on eating your Booty O’s cereal. They mock Sheamus and King Barrett in the process. Finally, Sheamus and King Barrett make their way down to the ring. The League of Nations vs. The New Day kicks off WWE Roadblock 2016.
The bell sounds and immediately the “You Look Stupid!” chants break out in Toronto directed at Sheamus. Starting things off for their respective teams in this one will be Sheamus and Kofi Kingston. “New Day rocks!” chants break out as Sheamus uses his power to control Kingston early on. It isn’t long, however, before Kingston’s speed gets the better of Sheamus’ power and Woods plays the trombone to celebrate that fact.
Sheamus immediately regains control, going back to work on Kingston before tagging in Barrett. Barrett comes in and picks up where “The Celtic Warrior” left off, taking it to Kingston.
Big E. finally tags in and now The New Day are firmly in control as Big E. establishes dominance and than exchanges tags with Kingston back-and-forth to keep a fresh pair of boots stomping Barrett in their corner as Woods plays the trombone right in his face and “The New Day rocks!” chants spread throughout the arena yet again.
Things end up with Kingston and Sheamus in the ring. Kingston goes for the Trouble In Paradise kick but misses, leading to Sheamus catching him in he Cloverleaf submission. Big E. takes out Barrett on the floor and gets back on the apron. Kingston reverses out of the Cloverleaf. He hits the S.O.S. on Sheamus and then tags in Big E.
Big E. looks for the Big Ending but gets distracted. Sheamus takes out Kingston and Big E. and then tags in Barrett. Barrett goes to work on Big E., blasting him with a super kick while he was on his knees. Woods, meanwhile, has the referee distracted.
Sheamus chases Woods around. Kingston blasts Sheamus coming around the corner. In the ring, Big E. hits Barrett with the Big Ending. 1-2-3. The New Day retains.
Winners and STILL WWE Tag-Team Champions: The New Day
Backstage: Paul Heyman
Backstage, Paul Heyman is interviewed. Heyman says he is here to name Toronto, Ontario, Canada the new capital for Suplex City. He talks about his client, Brock Lesnar, warning Bray Wyatt about exactly what is going to happen tonight — Lesnar will get revenge on Wyatt.
Chris Jericho vs. Jack Swagger
After a video package on the Chris Jericho-AJ Styles feud, Chris Jericho’s music hits and he makes his way down to the ring for our second match of the evening.
Jericho cuts a promo once in the ring. He addresses the Toronto crowd, telling them to shut their filthy mouths right now. He said they had their chance to chant for him for months and instead they chose to chant for AJ Styles. The fans chant “AJ Styles!” Jericho tells them to go to hell for chanting for Styles. He calls them typical Canadians, always a step behind the rest of the world.
Jericho says the sad thing is he is the greatest icon of the country of Canada. The fans chant “we want Bret!” Jericho says they’ll never get Bret again. Jericho says he is ashamed of being Canadian. So much so that he moved from the country years ago, a move he says is the among the smartest he’s ever made. He said he moved from Canada because Canada stinks — literally. He says Toronto is the anus of stinky Canada.
As he mocks the “We The People” chant, Jack Swagger’s music hits and out he comes. Jericho vs. Swagger is up next at WWE Roadblock.
After a lot of back-and-forth action, which included some loud, random “CM Punk! CM Punk!” chants from the Toronto fans, the finish came when after a series of near finishes, Jericho finally gets Swagger in The Walls Of Jericho and Swagger taps out.
Winner via Submission: Chris Jericho
