Tony Khan Compares AEW Storyline To Star Wars

Tony Khan has compared the difference between 2024 All In and All Out to a classic movie franchise.

The two AEW PPVs were held only two weeks apart but there was a stark difference in the feeling coming out of the two shows. Bryan Danielson was one of the featured stars for both these events but things changed completely for him in the few days between the shows.

The AEW President recently appeared on Busted Open Radio to talk about the upcoming Grand Slam special on September 25 as well as the company’s most recent PPVs. He mentioned how Bryan made his first appearance for the promotion three years ago at All Out and claimed that Danielson has completely changed his company.

Discussing the difference between this year’s All In and All Out, Tony Khan mentioned how Bryan Danielson went from living one of the greatest moments of his life to one of the worst:

“To talk about Bryan Danielson for a moment and the three-year anniversary—and like I said—to go from All In, which was one of the greatest moments of my life, to go to All Out, which was, I think, the juxtaposition…to say that for Bryan, I think All In was one of the great moments of his life, and then All Out probably one of the worst.”

They Go So Well Together: Tony Khan

Khan compared the difference between the endings of the two shows to first two Star Wars movies, while also claiming that they go well together:

“I mean, you know, [for] Star Wars people, it’s New Hope and Empire Strikes Back. Um, but they were very different things, but they were both amazing, and they go so well together.

All In and All Out stand as two of our greatest pay-per-views, and I’m very excited going into WrestleDream about what’s happening in AEW. The future of the AEW World Championship is yet to be determined, but at Grand Slam, the future of AEW is at stake, and so much is on the line.”

The American Dragon picked up one of the biggest victories of his career at All In from Wembley Stadium. He won the AEW title for the first time and celebrated with his family and friends to end the show.

On the other hand, Bryan got betrayed by Jon Moxley and the other BCC teammates at All Out and he had to be carried out of the arena after a brutal beatdown.

The AEW World Champion has not been seen on TV ever since. Though Nigel McGuinness has challenged him to a match at next Wednesday’s Dynamite.

Swerve Strickland Responds To Negative Reactions of Brutal All Out Match

Swerve Strickland has noticed and responded to the discourse going around his unsanctioned cage match with Hangman Page at AEW All Out.

The horrifying new chapter in the feud between the two arch-rivals featured unprecedented violence that made a lot of people uncomfortable. More than 24 hours after the bout, the discussion around it is still going strong. The former AEW Champion has noticed the debate, especially the questions around whether or not such extreme brutality was necessary for the bout.

Swerve responded to it with a tweet mentioning that this is what fans should have expected from a bout that was unsanctioned.

AEW’s Unsanctioned Matches

Labeling a match as unsanctioned is AEW’s way of telling fans to get ready for a true fight instead of a pro wrestling contest.

The first of its kind match took place at Full Gear 2019 between Kenny Omega and Jon Moxley, though at the time it was dubbed as a ‘Lights out’ match. The ending of that bout saw Mox exposing the wooden panel under the ring mat and delivering a Paradigm Shift on it for the win.

The first official unsanctioned match took place between Adam Cole and Chris Jericho at Double or Nothing 2023. The bout ended via referee stoppage when Cole wrapped a chain around his knee to deliver his finisher and continued beating Jericho afterward.

The match between Swerve Strickland and Hangman Page topped both these bouts with weapons such as a cinderblock and a syringe being used during the memorable encounter.

This fight ended after Hangman delivered a brutal chair shot to Strickland on the head. You can check out a report about what’s next for Swerve after the PPV here.

Latest On Reports Of A Backstage Incident At AEW All Out 2024

AEW All Out 2024 was another huge night for Tony Khan’s promotion, with a shocking heel turn, title matches, and a violent main event. A reported incident backstage has recently drummed up speculation of more trouble within the company and we now have an update about what happened inside the NOW Arena.

On Wrestling Observer Radio, Bryan Alvarez confirmed that “security dudes just started sprinting” before the AEW World Title match between Bryan Danielson and Jack Perry.

What happened was apparently there was some incident with one of the wrestlers that wasn’t on this show, they were shooting something backstage, and this wrestler and a production guy got into a big thing. Some people are saying it was absolutely nothing but it was big enough that security sprinted backstage.

Alvarez adds that the two sides “talked it out and everything ended up okay.” The security personnel would return to their posts in time for the pay-per-view main event between Swerve Strickland and ‘Hangman’ Adam Page.

With the wrestler involved in this alleged incident not being part of the AEW All Out card, that rules out several notable names including The Young Bucks who were suspended in 2022 for their role in ‘Brawl Out.’ On Twitter, Tay Melo stated that her husband Sammy Guevara, who was not booked for All Out 2024, did not have an incident backstage.

News On Swerve Strickland’s Immediate Future After Brutal All Out 2024 Match

It might be a while before we see Swerve Strickland back on AEW TV after his brutal match with Hangman Adam Page at last night’s All Out PPV.

The former AEW Champion confirmed the signing of his new contract before All In 2024 event a couple weeks ago. According to Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio, the new deal factored some much-deserved time off for the 33-year-old, and the closing to last night’s event was a way to write him off for it:

“I heard a long time ago that Swerve was going to sign the contract and get some time off, and this was the angle.”

Swerve Strickland vs. Adam Page

Strickland and Page wrote another horrifying chapter of their rivalry during the lights out unsanctioned cage match that main evented the latest AEW PPV.

Both men were in no mood to show any mercy after the highly praised closing angle of Wednesday’s Dynamite that saw Page burning down the childhood home of his arch-rival.

The competitors topped their previous encounter with this extreme bout which started with Strickland attacking Hangman even before the bell had rung. The duo then used unconventional weapons such as a staple gun and a cinderblock to brutalize each other.

The ending of this fight saw Page sticking a needle into his opponent’s cheek and hitting him in the head with a brutal chair shot. The referee had to call for the bell after this because Swerve was in no condition to continue the bout.

It makes sense for Strickland to be off TV for a while after this ending. One thing is for sure however, that the rivalry between these two is far from over and Page will have a lot to worry about when the former champion does return from his absence.

Tony Khan Teases Creating A Shockwave After Latest Trademark Filing

On September 6, All Elite Wrestling filed a trademark for the term ‘AEW: SHOCKWAVE‘ exciting fans over possible changes to the company. In August, Tony Khan teased that some of the biggest, most important announcements about AEW were coming soon.

Speaking on the post-AEW All Out media scrum, Khan was asked about the trademark and what it means going forward. The AEW President shared high hopes for his future after another successful All Out pay-per-view.

“It would be safe to say that AEW is set to create a shockwave throughout all of professional wrestling. I think people are going to be talking about what they saw at AEW All Out, which was a huge business success for us… We’ll continue to send that shockwave through the world of professional wrestling here at AEW.”

AEW is no stranger to making huge announcements including recently sharing that they will be hosting stadium-sized events in Australia and the United States next year. Stay tuned to SEScoops for the latest on AEW: SHOCKWAVE and what this trademark is eventually used for.

Tony Khan Confirms Current Status of AEW TV Deal

Tony Khan has confirmed that the AEW media rights renewal deal with WarnerBros Discovery has not officially been signed just yet.

The company’s TV deals have been a major topic of discussion among fans. There have been many reports saying that both parties have been having positive talks for a while but nothing solid has come out of it yet.

The AEW President was once again asked about it during the post-All Out media scrum and he said that the company is discussing a very detailed package with their broadcast partners:

“We’re still in very very close and exciting negotiations with Warner Brothers Discovery. It’s been going on throughout the summer that we’ve been having these conversations. It’s a very detailed package that we’re having discussions about,”

I’m Still Working On Things: Tony Khan

Tony Khan then talked about how AEW’s relationship with WBD has grown over the years and how they have gone from having 2 hours of programming to 5 hours of programming on the network. Though he also confirmed that a pen has not been put to paper yet:

“I said that ‘I think it’s safe to say, I believe AEW is here to stay on TNT and TBS.’ I think that’s true for a very long time and I believe it. I have not put pen to paper. I’m still working on things.

It’s an exciting time, without getting too specific, but while giving everybody that anticipation of things to come. There’s really exciting things to come in AEW,”

The AEW official was later asked about the chances of an AEW TV deal being announced in the next month in percentage and Khan responded with 90%.

Rumor Killer On Alleged Backstage Incident At AEW All Out 2024

During AEW’s All Out 2024 event at the NOW Arena, a fan’s social media post sparked speculation about a possible backstage altercation after they witnessed security rushing backstage. This quickly led to rumors circulating online that a confrontation may have occurred during the pay-per-view.

im at the show and somthing for sure just happend backstage alll the security just sprinted back stage full speed during the last match and havent came back

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful addressed these rumors, responding to the fan’s now-deleted tweet by confirming that he had heard reports of security being called to the backstage area. However, Fightful Select later clarified that no actual incident had been reported, and by the end of the night, security had returned to their positions at ringside without any further disruptions.

In a tweet of her own, Tay Melo made clear that her husband Sammy Guevara had not been a part of any incident at the NOW Arena. Guevara was attacked backstage by Andrade El Idolo in 2022 though Andrade was not fired for his actions.

AEW fans will be relieved to learn that rumors of a backstage altercation have been greatly exaggerated. It was at All Out 2022 that a backstage fight resulted in CM Punk, the Elite, and others being suspended. Punk would get into a second altercation less than a year later, resulting in his termination from AEW.

Despite the brief speculation surrounding the backstage activity, All Out 2024 was another memorable night for AEW. The event featured a thrilling main event between Swerve Strickland and ‘Hangman’ Adam Page, capping off a night full of exciting action. Stay tuned to SEScoops for all the latest on AEW and the fallout from the promotion’s latest pay-per-view.

AEW All Out: Hangman Adam Page Outlasts Swerve Strickland in Brutal Cage Match

Hangman Adam Page outlasted Swerve Strickland to win their Lights Out Steel Cage match at AEW All Out 2024 from the NOW Arena tonight.

This rivalry has been building for months now, with Page setting the childhood home of Strickland on fire this week on Dynamite, the home that Strickland had literally only just bought.

After grabbing a hypodermic needle and sticking it Swerve’s mouth, Hangman then hit Strickland in the head with a chair and the referee called for the bell.

Shocking AEW All Out Spot Has Ties To Classic NWA Pay-Per-View

At AEW All Out 2024, Bryan Danielson retained the AEW World Championship against Jack Perry. After the match, a shocking heel turn played out featuring Jon Moxley, who utilized a spot older fans may remember from the NWA.

After retaining his title, Danielson was jumped by The Patriarchy and it appeared Christian Cage was going to cash in his guaranteed World Title match that he won at All In: London. While Moxley and Claudio Castagnoli fended them off, they turned on Danielson and Moxley used a plastic bag in an attempt to suffocate the American Dragon. The spot was so graphic, that AEW has opted not to share it on social media.

This was a shocking moment to AEW All Out but this isn’t the first time there’s been a plastic bag suffocation spot in wrestling. At Clash of the Champions VIII in September 1989, Terry Funk used a bag to suffocate Ric Flair during the Nature Boy’s tag-team main event. Fair and Sting won by DQ over The Great Muta and ‘Dirty’ Dick Slater.

We’ve now seen our first plastic bag suffocation spot in AEW but Eddie Kingston hoped to use the spot during his 2022 feud with Chris Jericho. Speaking in July of this year to The Ringer, Kingston said he asked several times about using a plastic bag, only to be rejected every time by Tony Khan.

Moxley recently aligned himself with Marina Shafir and has spoken of AEW not being the company it once was. Now, the former AEW World Champion has plans to hold the gold again, and will hold nothing back in his feud with former ally Bryan Danielson.

AEW All Out: Jon Moxley Brutally Attacks Bryan Danielson

Jon Moxley has brutally attacked Bryan Danielson at the AEW All Out PPV event tonight from the NOW Arena in Illinois.

Following Danielson’s AEW Championship match against Jack Perry, Christian Cage and his stable appeared looking like he was going to cash in his shot at an All Elite Wrestling title match.

The Blackpool Combat Club would then intervene and stop that happening, before Claudio Castagnoli hit an uppercut on Danielson and PAC held back Wheeler Yuta whilst Moxley put a bag over Danielson’s head and attempted to choke him out.

Where this leads remains to be seen, but Moxley’s group appears to be him, Claudio, PAC and Marina Shafir…all former WWE names.

AEW All Out: Wild Stat Regarding Bryan Danielson and Jack Perry

Bryan Danielson and Jack Perry met in the official main event of AEW All Out tonight, and a fan just pointed out a wild stat about the match.

Danielson is of course winding down his career this point after an incredible in-ring run that has seen him win titles across WWE, AEW, ROH and beyond. Jack Perry is of course just hitting his stride as a performer, and he has a ton of time to build an even more impressive resume.

The American Dragon’s first recorded match took place for the Texas Wrestling Alliance back in October 1999, and incredibly, Jack Perry was around 3 years old at the time, as noted by @TheRKPodcast. Sensational.

AEW All Out: Fan at NOW Arena Claims Security Sprinted to the Backstage Area

A fan who claims to be in the NOW Arena for AEW All Out has said that security sprinted to the back during the show amid an apparent incident backstage.

Taking to X, the fan said that they are at the show and “all” of the security “just sprinted backstage full speed.”

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful would then respond to the claim, noting that he did hear of security being rushed to be the back but as of yet he had not been able to ascertain why.

A lot of fans are referencing what happened at Brawl Out back in 2022 with CM Punk now this has come up, but right now we have no idea if it is anything even close to that sort of situation.

AEW All Out: MJF Goes Full Scumbag to Beat Daniel Garcia

MJF managed to get the win against Daniel Garcia at AEW All Out 2024 from the NOW Arena, despite Garcia having just returned to the company.

Garcia made his return at the All In PPV event from London just a few weeks ago, distracting Maxwell and costing him his ‘American’ Championship against Will Ospreay. MJF was looking for revenge in this match against the former ROH Pure Champion, who reportedly has still not re-signed with All Elite Wrestling.

After a fantastic match to open the show, Maxwell would hit a low blow and then a Jacknife Pin to take the win in his signature scumbag style. Garcia would get a measure of revenge as Maxwell tried to attack him after the bell, but Garcia would grab the leg and hit is own low blow before taking him to the turnbuckle to hit a piledriver from the second rope.

AEW All Out Predictions: Will Adam Page and Swerve Burn the House Down?

AEW All Out 2024 is set to deliver big, with key matches featuring top-tier talent from the All Elite roster. With just weeks since AEW’s landmark All In event at Wembley Stadium, fans are eagerly anticipating what’s next in Chicago. Below are our predictions for the major matches scheduled for the event.

AEW All Out 2024 Predictions

AEW World Championship: Bryan Danielson (c) vs. Jack Perry

Bryan Danielson will defend his newly acquired AEW World Championship against Jack Perry. Given Danielson’s recent title victory, it’s unlikely he’ll lose the belt so soon. Perry offers a solid challenge, but Danielson should retain.

Prediction: Bryan Danielson retains

Unsanctioned Lights Out Steel Cage Match: Swerve Strickland vs. “Hangman” Adam Page

This heated rivalry has been brewing for over a year. Although Page is driven by revenge, AEW seems to have big plans for Strickland. Strickland recently lost the AEW World Title, so a victory here would keep his momentum going, but the odds appear to favor Page and that is who we see winning.

Prediction: Adam Page wins

AEW TBS Championship: Mercedes Mone (c) vs. Hikaru Shida

Mercedes Mone has been dominant since joining AEW. While Shida presents a tough opponent, it seems unlikely that Mone will drop the title after a high-profile defense against Britt Baker.

Prediction: Mercedes Mone retains

AEW International Championship: Will Ospreay (c) vs. Pac

Will Ospreay has been a force in AEW, especially after winning the title at All In. Given his recent victory, Ospreay is likely to retain in what could be a show-stealing match.

Prediction: Will Ospreay retains

MJF vs. Daniel Garcia

MJF remains one of AEW’s brightest stars, and a loss here could damage his growing legacy. With his storyline with Garcia likely to continue, we expect MJF to secure the win.

Prediction: MJF wins

Chicago Street Fight: Willow Nightingale vs. Kris Statlander

With Nightingale and Tomohiro Ishii having already beaten Kris Statlander and Stokeley Hathaway at All In, it would make sense for Statlander to get the win back here and keep her recent heel turn strong.

Prediction: Kris Statlander wins

AEW World Tag Team Championship: The Young Bucks (c) vs. Blackpool Combat Club (Claudio Castagnoli and Wheeler Yuta)

The Young Bucks will be defending their AEW Tag Team Championship against Claudio Castagnoli and Wheeler Yuta of the Blackpool Combat Club. Although Claudio and Wheeler are credible opponents, there’s a good chance that The Bucks will retain to keep their Elite EVP storyline ongoing.

Prediction: The Young Bucks retain

AEW Continental Championship Match: Kazuchika Okada vs Mark Briscoe vs Orange Cassidy vs Konosuke Takeshita

This should be a good match and seeing Okada vs Takeshita should be fantastic, but we can see Okada retaining here until he gets a full one-on-one encounter with someone the caliber of Konosuke.

Prediction: Kazuchika Okada Retains

AEW All Out: Fans Predict Who Will Ruin Mariah May Celebration Segment

Mariah May will be holding her AEW Women’s Championship celebration at the All Out PPV tonight, but fans are expecting a pretty big twist. Seeing as AEW rarely does these sorts of segments on PPV, many are wondering who could be making an appearance to make a splash or ruin the big night for the Glamour.

The question was posed earlier today on X and there have been a ton of different guesses from people, with Beth Phoenix, Athena, Tay Melo, Gisele Shaw, Anna Jay and Rebecca Quin all being at the top of the pile.

Mina Shirakawa would’ve been the most likely candidate to show up tonight on the PPV, but she is wrestling in Japan tomorrow, so the likelihood of that is quite low, if not impossible.
