Reason Why AEW Champion Didn’t Appear On June 1 Dynamite

There is an update on why one of AEW’s champions didn’t attend the most recent episode of Dynamite.

The June 1 episode of Dynamite was a loaded show. Fans witnessed the MJF pipebomb, an appearance from Hiroshi Tanahashi, a challenge laid down for Blood & Guts, and much more.

One notable absence was AEW Women’s Champion Thunder Rosa.

PWInsider is reporting that Rosa was in attendance for Dynamite this week but wasn’t feeling well. A decision was made by a company doctor to send her home.

It’s a tough break for the AEW Women’s Champion. She had already been dealing with nagging injuries and at this time, it’s unknown whether or not she worked the Double or Nothing match with Serena Deeb banged up.

It’s important to note that it isn’t known if those injuries caused her not to feel well on Wednesday.

AEW Dark: Elevation Spoilers For 6/6 & AEW Dynamite Notes

The June 6th episode of AEW Dark: Elevation was taped on June 1st.

The taping took place before AEW Dynamite at The Kia Forum in Inglewood, California.

It’s possible that more matches will be filmed before Rampage on Friday.

AEW Dark: Elevation Spoilers For 6/6

  • Frankie Kazarian def. Serpentico
  • Nyla Rose & Serena Deeb def. Skye Blue & Miyu Yamashita
  • Death Triangle (PAC, Rey Fenix & Penta Oscuro) def. The Wingmen (Peter Avalon, Ryan Nemeth, & Cezar Bononi)

AEW Dark: Elevation streams at 7 p.m. ET on Monday on the AEW YouTube channel.

Notes From 6/1 AEW Dynamite

Matt Compton of PWInsider shared a few notes from last night’s AEW Dynamite that only fans in attendance were privy to.

  • There did not seem to be any areas tarped off, besides perhaps the area behind the stage.  There was no large screen above the ramp.  They did have 3 or 4 large screens hung from the rafters/scaffolding around the building.
  • What got bleeped from MJF’s promo was him calling Tony Khan a f*cking mark.  Also, when CM Punk came down to the ring during the commercial, he was only wearing one boot.
  • Also, when Eddie Kingston ran down to attack Chris Jericho, he almost tripped over, I believe, a camera cable (https://www.youtube.com/shorts/w31JAicGwA8).

WWE Raw Superstar Backstage at AEW Dynamite

A current member of the WWE Raw roster was backstage for the June 1 episode of AEW Dynamite.

The show was held inside The Kia Forum in Inglewood, CA. This episode of Dynamite very much had a “Raw after WrestleMania” feel to it. This was the post-Double or Nothing edition of Dynamite.

Fans witnessed a scathing shoot-style promo from MJF. He called AEW President Tony Khan a “f*cking mark” and demanded to be fired.

Adding another element of realism, CM Punk tried confronting MJF during commercial break but Max left through the crowd.

Who Was Backstage For AEW Dynamite?

Fightful is reporting that WWE Raw superstar Dolph Ziggler was backstage for AEW Dynamite. It’s been said that he was very well-liked by the end of the night.

CJ Perry, the former Lana, was also backstage. She is the wife of Miro, who made his return from injury.

Ziggler’s younger brother, Ryan Nemeth, is on the AEW roster.

Dolph had some fun with his brother after Ryan scored his first piece of AEW merchandise back in May.

Jon Moxley & Eddie Kingston Address Crowd After June 1 AEW Dynamite Goes Off The Air

Once the June 1 episode of AEW Dynamite went off the air, Jon Moxley had something to say and his hype man was Eddie Kingston.

The main event of the show saw Moxley of Blackpool Combat Club take on Daniel Garcia of the Jericho Appreciation Society. Chris Jericho attempted to distract Moxley but Kingston ran out to thwart him.

Moxley ended up choking out Garcia for the win. He then took the mic and said he’s down with Kingston’s idea of a Blood & Guts match against the JAS.

After The Show

Stephanie Chase & Garrett Martin were in attendance for the June 1 episode of AEW Dynamite and posted Jon Moxley’s message to the fans once the cameras stopped rolling.

What Happened With MJF & CM Punk When Dynamite Went to Commercial

MJF and CM Punk had a brief interaction following Max’s scathing promo.

During the June 1 episode of AEW Dynamite, MJF was given a live mic and cut a promo fans won’t soon forget. This was very much shoot-style mic work from MJF, playing off of real-life events.

MJF has been the talk of the wrestling world since no-showing a meet and greet one day before Double or Nothing. His status for the DoN PPV event was a big question mark but he ultimately did the job for Wardlow.

CM Punk Attempts To Confront MJF

MJF’s promo included a diss aimed at Tony Khan for not upping his pay but opening up the checkbook for former WWE stars.

At the end of his promo, MJF called Tony a “f*cking mark” and demanded that he be fired.

This led to CM Punk limping down the ramp and trying to talk to Max. MJF would have none of it and left through the crowd.

MJF shouted that he’s the best in the world because he makes everyone feel and doesn’t have to do a bunch of shit to get the fans there. Maxwell shouted that he’s a generational talent, but don’t ask Tony to reach in his pocket unless its an ex-WWE guy that can’t lace his god damn boots. MJF got a big pop and wondered if Tony Khan would treat him better if he was an ex-WWE guy. Maxwell dared Tony Khan to fire him and started cursing into the microphone until it was cut off.

Ex-WWE Talent Returns On AEW Dynamite Tonight

A former WWE superstar will be making his way back to an AEW ring in short order.

During the May 18 episode of AEW Dynamite, the former John Morrison made his promotional debut. He took on Samoa Joe in the quarterfinals of the Owen Hart Cup.

Morrison, who went by the name “Johnny Elite,” fell short in the match. He was pinned via Muscle Buster.

After the match, Jay Lethal, Sonjay Dutt, and Satnam Singh attacked both men. Members of CHAOS ran out to make the save.

While Johnny Elite isn’t quite “All Elite” at this time, he will be making an appearance on the June 1 episode of Dynamite.

Major Update on MJF’s Whereabouts Ahead of AEW Dynamite

Could things be taking a positive turn between MJF and AEW?

MJF was the talk of Double or Nothing weekend. Fans were left wondering if Maxwell would even show up at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada for the show.

He failed to appear at a scheduled meet and greet on Saturday, forcing AEW to offer refunds and exchanges for those who paid to see MJF.

There was a later disputed report of a flight being booked for MJF out of Las Vegas. Ultimately, Maxwell showed up on Sunday and did the job for Wardlow at DoN.

He was stretchered out of the arena after the match.

MJF In The Area Of AEW Dynamite

PWInsider is reporting that MJF was seen at LAX on Tuesday afternoon. This week’s AEW Dynamite will be taking place in Los Angeles.

This could be a good sign as it was said that MJF and Tony Khan would be having a meeting in Las Vegas. Assuming they had the meeting, MJF’s presence in Los Angles could indicate that the face-to-face talk went well.

PWTorch reported that MJF was “in a bad place” on Saturday and had no business making a public appearance in the state he was in.

NJPW Tag Team Invades AEW Dynamite (Video)

Former IWGP Tag Team Champions have invaded AEW.

During the May 25 episode of Dynamite, FTR put the ROH Tag Team Championships up for grabs against Roppongi Vice. The match did not end with a decisive winner.

That’s because Jeff Cobb and Great-O-Khan of the United Empire interfered and attacked both teams. The referee waved off the match but NJPW’s fierce tag team wasn’t done.

Cobb powerbombed Dax Harwood through a table, while Great-O-Khan slammed Trent Beretta through a table with the Iron Claw slam.

By the end of the chaos, the United Empire members held up the ROH Tag Team Titles.

This is the first true hint at what could be in store for the AEWxNJPW Forbidden Door PPV set for June 26.

Wardlow Won The Cage Match & Will Face MJF at Double or Nothing

If Wardlow won the match, he would earn a match against MJF at Double or Nothing to escape his contract. MJF checked Wardlow before the match and claimed to have forgotten the keys to the handcuffs. Spears then attacked Wardlow and the match began. MJF stomped the hell out of Wardlow as well in the corner.

Wardlow tried to battle back but MJF raked the eyes and posed for the booing crowd. MJF and Spears sent Wardlow into the cage and high-fived. Spears charged but Wardlow countered into a Back Body Drop and followed it up with a big boot. MJF dared Wardlow to hit him but he couldn’t or the match at Double or Nothing would be off. Wardlow then broke the handcuffs himself and beat the hell out of Spears as MJF watched on in horror.

Spears started climbing the cage but Wardlow followed him. Wardlow clubbed Spears across the back and whipped him down to the canvas. Wardlow barely connected with a Swanton and went for the cover but MJF laughed in his face. MJF hit Wadlow with a low blow and Spears followed it up with the C4 but somehow Wardlow kicked out at two.

MJF and Spears were in shock and paced around the ring as Wardlow began to stir on the canvas. Spears brought a steel chair into the ring and accidentally bashed MJF over the head with it. Hangman took the microphone away from Tony Schiavone and reminded Punk that he’s already said he is going to destroy and embarrass him at Double or Nothing. Hangman added that he does not hate Punk, he pities him and doesn’t respect what he’s done since his arrival in AEW. Page said he’s not just defending the AEW title against CM Punk, Hangman shouted that he will be defending All Elite Wrestling from Punk. The crowd loudly chanted “Cowboy Shit!” as Punk once again wondered why Hangman is taking this so personally.

Jericho escaped the brawl and posed in the ring until Danielson attacked him. Chris stomped on Danielson’s knee and Bryan sold an injury. Jericho Appreciation Society will battle Santana, Ortiz, Eddie Kingston, Jon Moxley, and Bryan Danielson in an Anarchy in the Arena match at Double or Nothing.

“I’ve had the great fortune to create and launch Emmy-winning fan-favorite entertainment, to be a part of powerful life-changing initiatives, and most importantly to have had the privilege to lead the most talented, dedicated, altruistic, and innovative team at the TNets.

“We made huge profits for shareholders and brilliant content for fans while having the most fun and being better partners with talent than any team I’ve ever been a part of. I will for sure continue to root for you all.”

Weitz was a big supporter of AEW TV, calling it an “overperformer.”

WarnerMedia-Discovery Merger Unlikely To Affect AEW (Report)

WarnerMedia and Discovery completed their merger on April 8 as Warner Bros. Discovery, Inc.

There was speculation that this could affect All Elite Wrestling programming as the company may not carry wrestling content as part of its repertoire.

This speculation stemmed from a recent announcement that TBS and TNT will no longer develop new scripted content to cut costs.

Earlier reports suggested that it all depends on how the company views AEW since it is going after major sports leagues. If the company sees the wrestling promotion as a sports property, chances are it will be unaffected.

A new report from Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter says that according to a key executive from WarnerMedia, “it would take someone who just hates wrestling” for AEW to be no longer part of WarnerMedia.

The report says (as transcribed by WrestlePurists): “Regarding AEW’s status, this is basically from a key executive in WarnerMedia, the feeling is as far as AEW not being canceled, which was and still is a very low percentage chance of happening due to the ratings. It would take someone who just hates wrestling for that to happen.”

Dynamite performs well when it comes to ratings, and is inexpensive to run. The show performs better than other TBS and TNT programming, except for NBA.

Before the merger took place, AEW’s new reality series was already greenlit which will premiere later this year.

AEW’s TV deal with WarnerMedia will expire at the end of 2023. There’s no information about the contract’s future after that, but it wouldn’t be too surprising if AEW continues to be a mainstay in the company.

CM Punk Paid Tribute to Bret Hart During AEW Dynamite Match (Video)

CM Punk paid homage to the legend Bret Hart on this week’s 4/20/22 episode of AEW Dynamite.

Punk and Dustin Rhodes opened up the program with a great match. Punk ultimately came out on top before having an intense stare-down with AEW World Champion Adam Page at the top of the ramp after the match.

Punk wore pink and black ring gear and used of Hart’s moves throughout the match. Most of Punk’s Hitman moves were actually from Hart’s match with Rhodes (Goldust) on an episode of Monday Night RAW in 1997.

As captured below by Twitter user @PromoJoe, the videos below showcase Punk’s tribute to Bret Hart’s 1997 match against Goldust:

Punk is currently chasing an AEW World Championship opportunity, and might just get it after continuing to impress inside the AEW ring. If his staredown with Page is any indication, he might just get his wish sooner than he thinks. However, Punk might have another big match to look forward to, as it was also announced on Dynamite yesterday that AEW and New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) will be teaming up for a joint pay-per-view (PPV).

AEWxNJPW: Forbidden Door is set to go down on PPV from the United Center in Chicago, Illinois on June 26. Both promotions will surely be putting their top stars on the card, so we can expect Punk to have a strong presence at the event. Perhaps he might even have AEW gold around his waist by the summer show.
