AJ Styles Says We’ll Have To Be Patient For Samoa Joe & Nakamura Rematches, Talks Being Champ

During a recent promotional interview for WWE 2K17 on ESPN, AJ Styles says he’s excited about the possibility of facing his previous opponents Samoa Joe and Shinsuke Nakamura inside a WWE ring. Styles had several acclaimed matches outside of WWE with both Joe and Nakamura, and says he “absolutely” wants to face them again. AJ added that Joe is the kind of talent who can “make a difference” on a show.

“I mean, the chemistry I have with both those guys, and other guys that are coming up through NXT or a part of NXT, it’s kind of one of those things where you can’t rush it,” AJ said. “But all this stuff is gonna eventually happen. We just have to be patient.”

Styles captured his first WWE World Championship in September at Backlash, and says that’s the kind of recognition he worked for. Styles had won championships elsewhere, but feels that being recognized by WWE means a lot more.

“It’s huge,” AJ said. “It’s nice to know that the hard work that you’ve put in all these years is finally getting the, I don’t want to say praise, but you know. I busted my tail for so long, I’m just glad it’s getting recognized now as part of the WWE. Because let’s face it, the WWE is the biggest company out there when it comes to wrestling. I’m just happy that I’m being recognized as somebody who works hard, I guess.”

AJ Styles Talks About Possible Feuds With Randy Orton & Shinsuke Nakamura

WWE World Champion AJ Styles recently spoke to GameRevolution.com and expressed interest in a potential SmackDown feud with Randy Orton. AJ said:

“We’re both on Smackdown! Live, so eventually that’s gonna happen. I think that’s gonna be huge, that’s gonna be fun. So there’s definitely guys on the Smackdown! roster that I haven’t had the opportunity to wrestle, and the RAW roster, and the NXT roster. I think there’s all these matches that people are gonna wanna see, it’s gonna happen eventually. And I’m one of ‘em. I want these matches to happen as well.”

AJ also said he’s looking forward in having a rematch against his WrestleKingdom 10 opponent Shinsuke Nakamura in WWE. He said:

“I don’t know when, or where, but it will happen eventually. The WWE, they’re smart, they know what they’re doing. And when that time comes, everybody will be aware of it, and they won’t wanna miss it.”

AJ Styles vs. Dean Ambrose News, Curt Hawkins’ WWE Status & Vignette, The Rock

    – As previously reported, AJ Styles will defend his WWE World Championship in a triple threat match against John Cena and Dean Ambrose at No Mercy on 10/9. It should be noted that on Smackdown, Shane McMahon mentioned Dean receiving a one-on-one rematch somewhere down the line, after losing the title to Styles this past Sunday. With John Cena taking time off soon and the unlikelihood that Styles drops the title after a month, it looks like we could see Styles vs. Ambrose at Survivor Series in November.

    – The Rock is scheduled to appear on “Good Morning America” this Thursday to unveil the first trailer for his Disney animated movie, “Moana.” Below is the new poster for the film:

    – Despite announcing Curt Hawkins for this week’s episode of Smackdown, the former Major Brother did not appear in the arena. At least not on Smackdown. Hawkins defeated local enhancement talent Brandon Scott in a dark match, and later appeared on the live broadcast in a vignette. Hawkins’ win over Scott was his first WWE match since February 3rd, 2014.

  • WWE SmackDown Results (9/6)

    WWE SmackDown Results (9/6)

This week’s episode of WWE SmackDown aired live on the USA Network from the Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln, NE, and is the go-home show before Sunday’s Backlash PPV.

    – Daniel Bryan is in the ring to welcome us to SmackDown and discuss the new SmackDown Women’s Tile. He invites Becky Lynch out to the ring to talk about why she wants to win the belt. Natalya interrupts and says Becky’s promo is boring, and that she’s supposed to be the star of SmackDown. Alexa Bliss and Carmella come out next, and the three of them get in Becky’s face. Naomi and Nikki Bella come out to back up Becky. They start going at it and Daniel Bryan leaves the ring. The babyfaces come out on top, but Nikki is down.

    – Dean Ambrose is in the back in the catering room and he’s not pleased with the quality of the food or coffee. He pours a bunch of sugar in someone’s coffee and leaves.

    – Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan are in the back talking about the SmackDown women’s division. Shane botches his promo when talking about the six-pack challenge and the six-woman tag match tonight. The Miz walks in and complains about having to wrestle tonight. Bryan calls him out for walking away from Ziggler last week when he challenged him. Bryan says if he doesn’t want to work his match, he’ll be stripped of the title.

The Miz def. Apollo Crews: Dolph Ziggler is on commentary, making fun of Miz for not fighting him last week. The Miz controls the opening moments of the match until Crews hits a dropkick that sends Miz rolling to the outside, then follows up with a moonsault off the apron onto the IC Champion. Back in the ring, The Miz hits a backbreaker and a neckbreaker for a 2 count. Crews pins Miz for a two count with a sunset flip, and Miz answers with a big boot and a flying clothesline. The Miz comes off the top rope but Crews catches him with a belly to belly overhead suplex. Crews comes back with a splash in the corner and a flying clothesline, then goes to follow up with a suplex but Miz thumbs his eye and rolls outside. The Miz slaps Ziggler at ringside, Crews slides outside but Miz dodges his kick and pushes Crews into Ziggler. Back in the ring, Miz hits the Skull Crushing Finale for the ring then runs up the ramp. Ziggler has his title belt in the ring, and tells Miz to come get it if he wants it. Miz sends Maryse in to get it instead.

    – Renee Young is on the set of Talking Smack talking to AJ Styles. AJ is still mad about last week, and freaks out at someone for letting them air the footage of what happened last week.

    – The Usos are in the back talking about the Tag Title tournament, and preparing for their match tonight.

    – The lights in the arena cut out and we see a pre-taped segment with Bray Wyatt on his rocking chair cutting a promo on Randy Orton.

Natalya, Alexa Bliss, & Carmella def. Nikki Bella, Becky Lynch, & Naomi: Naomi starts things off with a series of kicks on Alexa for a two count. Becky and Carmella get the tags and Becky cleans house. She hits a flying clothesline and then a flying forearm in the corner. Natalya pulls Becky outside and drops her behind the ref’s back. Carmella chokes Becky on the middle rope, then once again behind the ref’s back Natalya gives Becky a kick to the head. The heels tag turns tagging in and working on Becky. Nikki gets the hot tag and lays out Alexa. She hits a spinning kick off the middle rope for a near-fall on Alexa. Carmella tags in and NIkki hits a Fireman’s carry into a neckbreaker for a two count when Natalya breaks the tag. This clears the aprons and ends up with Alexa hitting a knee rop and a moonsault on Nikki. Becka takes Alexa to the outside. Back in the ring, Carmella locks Nikki in the Code of Silence for the win.

American Alpha def. The Usos: They shake hands, but as soon as American Alpha turns around they beat them down. Within two minutes, Gable and Jordan hit the Grand Amplitude for the win. The Usos shake hands with them after the match, but then beat down the winners. Gable sells a knee injury after the beat down.

    – Randy Orton gets interviewed in the back about Bray Wyatt, and tells a story about a man in the woods getting bitten by a snake. He says at Backlash, Bray Wyatt won’t know what hit him.

    – Fandango is in the ring saying that his partner Tyler Breeze isn’t here tonight, so he’s going to dance in the ring with a random girl who was standing in the corner. He says he doesn’t like her dancing, then Demon Kane interrupts. Fandango says he wants Kane to dance an wants to “feel the fire in his belly.” Kane chokeslams him and leaves.

    – AJ Styles yells at some random guys in the back who he thinks were taking a picture of him. It was a picture of the guy’s family, but AJ smashes him phone anyways and reminds them that he’s the face who runs the place.

Rhino & Heath Slater def. The Hype Bros: Slater and Ryder start things off. Mojo gets the tag and continues working on Slater. Ryder gets the tag and they double team both Ryder and Rhino. After more beating on Slater, Rhino gets the tag and hits a spinebuster on Ryder. Slater tags himself in and is now in the ring with Ryder while Rhino and Mojo brawl outside. Ryder goes for the Broski Boot on Slater but Rhino pulls his partner out of the way and Ryder gets crotched on he ropes. Rhino tags himself in and Gores Ryder for the win.

    – Deam Ambrose and AJ Styles head out to the ring to talk to each other. Ambrose excuses the interviewer standing between them, and proceeds to air the footage from last week of Ambrose crotching AJ on the top rope. AJ is very displeased with the footage airing again, and Ambrose explains that he was just trying to give him a high pitched voice to go with his “soccer mom haircut.” AJ says he’s going to take Ambrose’s title belt on Sunday, just like he took Cena’s headband by beating him clean in a WWE ring. Ambrose says he beat AJ before and he’ll beat him again. Ambrose calls him “the face that comes in second place,” so AJ delivers a kick to the groin of Ambrose. AJ stands over Ambrose as SmackDown goes off the air.

  • Ryback: Vince McMahon Wanted Me to Squash “Little Twerp” AJ Styles At WrestleMania 32

Ryback: Vince McMahon Wanted Me to Squash “Little Twerp” AJ Styles At WrestleMania 32

Ryback released the premiere episode of his podcast on Monday and opened up about his departure from WWE. Ryback revealed that after winning the Intercontinental Championship in 2015, he was offered a new contract that he wasn’t happy with. Ryback says the money wasn’t necessarily the issue, and the contract would have paid out $1.5 million over three years.

Ryback said he feels the way things have “always been done” in pro wrestling aren’t always right, and specifically mentioned that talent having to pay their own travel expenses can become very pricey. Ryback claims that dishonesty from WWE management about booking and merchandising opportunities lead to him being disgruntled. He says that magazines had offered him covers, but WWE nixed them in favor of Roman Reigns.

The now-former WWE star claimed that company Chairman Vince McMahon himself told Ryback that he would be the top heel in the company if he listened to McMahon’s instructions and delivered his promos exactly as scripted. Ryback also claimed that he was told he would face AJ Styles at WrestleMania 32, and that McMahon’s exact words were he would “squash that little twerp.” Ryback ended up facing Kalisto on the WrestleMania pre-show instead.

He says towards the end of his run he stopped communicating with McMahon because he had been lied to and “betrayed” too many times, and that he isn’t worried about burning his bridge with the company.

Ryback says these issues aren’t exclusive to him and that other talent goes through the same thing. Ryback feels like WWE’s goal should be making sure that all of their wrestlers’ brands are as strong as possible.

    – Prior to last night’s RAW from Pittsburgh, WWE taped the following matches for this week’s Superstars:

    • Sin Cara vs. Bo Dallas
    • Titus O’Neill & Jack Swagger vs. The Dudley Boyz

    – Three of SmackDown’s top Superstars were in attendance for RAW and actually wrestled after the show went off the air. The dark match main event saw WWE Champion Dean Ambrose and John Cena defeat Seth Rollins and AJ Styles in an inter-brand tag team match. Fans in attendance noted on social media that the match was ‘average’ and nothing special. We’ll see if this was a one-off event, or if WWE advertises “special appearances” from SmackDown Superstars to sell tickets for RAW tapings and vice versa. If SmackDown is behind held in a city not far from where RAW is taped, you could see a “non-televised appearance from John Cena” boosting attendance.

    – WWE promised the start of a new era last night on RAW and the overwhelming consensus is that they delivered. The commentary, graphics & production tweaks, the post-match interviews, the enhancement matches, Finn Balor’s stellar debut and Sasha Banks’ title win all gave the show a fresh feel. WWE runs a weekly poll on Twitter asking for feedback about RAW, if you enjoyed the show and want more of what we saw last night, let them know:

Steve Austin Says AJ Styles Carried Roman Reigns During Their Feud: “That Was All AJ”

Stone Cold Steve Austin recently gave high praises to AJ Styles for his feud with World Heavyweight Title holder Roman Reigns, but didn’t have as much praise for the current champ.

In an interview with Sports Illustrated, Austin talked about the critically acclaimed matches between Styles and Reigns earlier this year, and seemed to give most of the credit to The Phenomenal One. The Texas Rattlesnake even called one of their matches an “all-time classic.”

“AJ Styles just carried Roman Reigns to two world class matches back-to-back,” Austin said. “The second one wasn’t as good as the first, but it’s hard to top an all-time classic. Reigns carried his end, but that was all AJ. They keep beating that f—— kid, and they’ve got a potential superstar on their hands. He’s only been working 16, 18 years, f—, he’s got it figured out. Put a rocket on his ass and send him to the moon. I would love to see them run with Styles. I called him over the last time I saw him, which was before he got into that string of really good matches, and we’d never met. I said, ‘Hey man, good luck.’

Austin also said he’s glad to see a veteran like Styles make it to the big league and get the paydays that come along with it. Stone Cold says he hopes to see Styles have a seven-figure earning year with WWE, because “he’s paid a million dues and he ain’t made no money.”

AJ Styles will be a guest on Stone Cold’s WWE Network podcast on June 20th after RAW.

  • Video: Seth Rollins & AJ Styles Perform Banned Move At WWE Live Event

Seth Rollins has brought back a move that was banned by WWE management over a decade ago for it’s dangerous nature. Rollins, who has been criticized by Bret Hart for being unsafe in the ring, performed the Vertebreaker on AJ Styles during last night’s WWE live event.

Rollins, whose Curb Stomp finish was recently banned by WWE, added the Vertebreaker to his arsenal against Styles at the un-televised event in Jackson, MS. WWE cameras weren’t rolling, but a fan’s camera was and they uploaded a clip of the move to Instagram:

    https://www.instagram.com/p/BGifSnrwq8n/?taken-by=revolverambrose

The move was previously the finisher for Shane “Hurricane” Helms, who was told by WWE not to use the move anymore during his time there. Here’s a video of Helms performing the move on Billy Kidman back in WCW, where Kidman didn’t tuck his chin in time and took the bump on the top of his head:
