Big Wrestling Stars Stiffed on Pay at Indie Event

So huge names from the world of professional wrestling left empty-handed after competing at a show for New Evolution Pro.

The event, which took place on November 13, saw prominent names including Ultimo Dragon, Josh Alexander, Katsuhiko Nakajima, Naomichi Marufuji, and Alberto Del Rio appear.

Fightful Select reports that these stars were told that there was no money for the show and that they would not be getting paid.

Medical Emergency

The rightly-irate wrestlers were informed that the promoter of the show had to leave early, due to what was called a ‘medical emergency.’

Instead of payment for appearing, the talent was told to split the profits from meet-and-greets between them.

Fightful reports that Josh Alexander had to “chase down” the promoter who had money on him.

When counted, it came to $14,000 less than what was owed to the roster.

Pro Wrestling NOAH

In the report, it’s added that talent from Pro Wrestling NOAH was not paid and that the promotion will have to chase down the money.

Despite this, Nakajimi, Marufuji and Dragon all worked hard despite missing their payday.

The main event of the show saw a six-man-tag, pitting Alexander, Ricardo Rodriguez and Alberto Del Rio against Ultimo Dragon, Nakajima and Marufuji.

Post-Match

After the match, Del Rio cut a promo saying nobody was getting paid, which while not exactly true, did highlight how nobody was getting near what they were owed.

Fightful adds that some of the talent signed free autographs to help out the crowd.

The promoter reportedly insisted fans pay him via Venmo, PayPal, or Cash App, and there was no point of purchase for actual tickets.

Alberto El Patron Believes He’ll Be in WWE Hall Of Fame One Day

Former WWE Champion Alberto El Patron (aka Alberto Del Rio) believes he’ll make it into the WWE Hall Of Fame one day.

Recently, El Patron was interviewed by Sportskeeda and discussed the possibility of one day getting the nod for a Hall Of Fame induction.

El Patron said he believes the day will eventually come where he can share what would be a special day with his family.

“I would love to be there and walk into the scenario and just grab the microphone and from the top, look at my dad, my mom, my beautiful children, my girlfriend, my family, and to finally put an end to this amazing career with my name out there in the stars with the legends of our sport,” Del Rio said.

“I know one day it will happen. Of course, the decision is not mine. But I know someday, I will get my justice.”

El Patron debuted in WWE as Alberto Del Rio back in 2010 on SmackDown. It marked the beginning of what would turn out to be a rather successful career with the company overall.

The Mexican star is a former Royal Rumble winner, Money In The Bank Ladder match winner, a four-time WWE World Champion, and a two-time United States Champion. He’s been featured in big feuds alongside stars such as John Cena, Dolph Ziggler, The BIg SHow, and many more.

Aside from WWE, Del Rio has worked for promotions such as AAA, Ring Of Honor (ROH), Lucha Underground, IMPACT Wrestling, and many more.

Of course, Del Rio has no shortage of controversies outside of the ring, which may prevent or delay a Hall Of Fame opportunity with WWE from becoming possible.

Alberto Del Rio Causes A Scene At Wrestling Show In Mexico (Video)

It appears Alberto Del Rio caused quite a stir during a KAOZ Lucha Libre event in Monterrey.

Del Rio has been known to stay in the headlines for negative reasons over the past few years. He’s back at it again over an incident that took place during a wrestling event in Mexico.

Reports have claimed that Del Rio initially wasn’t allowed in a KAOZ event, which took place on May 7 despite being scheduled to perform. The reason for this is Alberto Del Rio allegedly showed up at the venue over two hours late.

Never one to leave well enough alone, Del Rio seemingly forced his way backstage and performed at the show anyway. Throughout the fracas, Del Rio’s brother, El Hijo de Dos Caras, was also making a scene by shouting at the promoter.

Alberto Del Rio’s Ex-Wife Passes Away

Alberto Del Rio has announced the passing of the mother of his three children.

The former WWE and AAA star had been asking for help finding blood donors in an effort to save Ángela Velkei, his ex-wife. While it appears donors were found, things quickly went awry, and Velkei has died.

Del Rio took to his Twitter account to issue the following statement:

“It is with pain in my heart and with a torn soul that I officially confirm the unexpected and unfortunate death of Ángela Velkei, mother of my three children. Angela was an exceptional human being and an exemplary mother to my three children. I thank each and everyone who went to donate blood and platelets, to the media that spread the word so that more people could go to help us and the whole family that is present for my children in this very difficult moment in their short lives.

“Angela passed away this past Saturday 30 April 2022 and fought with all his might until his last second in this world. Today she rests with God and is watching over Sofia, Stephanie and Joseph from heaven. Angela, you were my wife for many years, the mother of my children, my best friend, advisor and you were there for me.

“In many moments where the world turned its back on me with words of encouragement and a sincere hug. Thank you so much Angela. We miss you like you have no idea. But I swear to you that our children will grow up to be good men and women like you always asked me to. Dad will be here for them. Rest in peace. In this world you were always my angel and so I always let you know. Now you truly become an angel watching over us from heaven. You will always be my angel. Our angel. We love you Angela. Thanks for being you.”

We at SEScoops wish the family of Ángela Velkei the very best during this difficult time.

Andrade vs Alberto Del Rio

Former WWE Superstars Kalisto, Primo and Epico have also been confirmed for the show in July.

Alberto Del Rio still faces aggravated kidnapping and sexual assault charges. This follows on from an incident from last October involving an unnamed woman.

The trial for the kidnapping and sexual assault was originally expected to take place in San Antonio earlier in 2021. The trial for the case has now been pushed back to May 3.

It has not yet been confirmed if the event will be available to view on PPV.

Update On Charges & Allegations Against Alberto Del Rio

As of this writing, Alberto Del Rio is still scheduled to go to trial in January. He has been charged with kidnapping and sexual assault. It now appears, however, that his accuser will likely not testify and the charges against him could be dropped.

Alberto’s former girlfriend recently posted a short statement through her social media. She apologized to the Rodriguez (Alberto’s real last name) family for her actions but did not go into detail.

“An apology to the Rodriguez del Rio family for the damages caused by my mistakes,” she wrote in Spanish.

Alberto has reportedly been saying the charges against him have been dropped and that he will have one more hearing on the matter.

The situation involving the charges against Del Rio was also addressed recently on Wrestling Observer Radio.

“It looks like that case is gonna go away because the woman is recanting her story,” Dave Meltzer said. “There was police inspectors saw her, saw her bruises, so it’s hard for me to go, well, you know, she changed her story. Then there was actually talk originally that she was going to leave town and not even testify in the first place.”

“It looked bad for him as far as the indictment and everything like that and the crime was like freaking hideous the way it was described. But the charge itself is going to go away,” Meltzer continued.

Alberto Del Rios’ brother put out a statement regarding’s Alberto’s accuser recanting.

“Well gang, as everyone knows the truth always falls under its own weight. After so many and so many months, finally the garbage person who accused my brother of something totally false spoke with the truth admitting her lie,” he wrote.

Meltzer continued to talk about the reaction to Alberto’s accuser recanting.

“There’s too much. She recants her story and then the family starts talking about she’s a money-grubber type of thing. That she’s using it for money. And the criminal case was not about money. So, you know, you try to tie the dots together. I certainly come up with something but I better not say it.”

Alberto Del Rio’s Trial Date Set

Alberto Del Rio is set to go to trial early next year on charges of aggravated kidnapping and sexual assault. He was arrested in May after a woman came forward and stated she had been held captive by Del Rio for a period of several hours.

According to a recent report from PW Insider, Del Rio has received a trial date of January 25th, 2021. The trial will be held in San Antonio, Texas.

His accuser is alleging that Del Rio sexual assaulted her and physically beat her during the kidnapping as well. If convicted, Del Rio is looking at a possible lengthy prison sentence.

Aggravated kidnapping in Texas carries a sentence of 5 to 99 years in prison. Del Rio is also looking at a possible fine of up to $10,000.

“A conviction for aggravated kidnapping is generally punishable as a felony of the first degree, which can result in a prison sentence ranging from five to 99 years or life imprisonment and/or a fine up to $10,000,” the law firm of Dunham and Jones’ website states.

Alberto Del Rio Indicted For Aggravated Kidnapping

Alberto Del Rio, real name Jose Alberto Rodriguez Chucuan, was arrested in May after a woman came forward alleging that he beat and sexually assaulted her over a period of several hours on May 3rd, 2020. Del Rio was then released on $50,000 bond.

When the woman says she started crying, Del Rio is alleged to have told her to stop or he would drop her son in the middle of the road.

He is also alleged to have tied her up and put a sock in her mouth according to an article from the Houston Chronicle. Reports that came out after Del Rio was arrested in May also stated he had sexually assaulted the victim.

Alberto Del Rio Arrested For Alleged Sexual Assault

Alberto Del Rio has found himself in a serious situation after being arrested last week.

The former WWE star was involved in an incident on May 3rd that ultimately led to him going to jail. News 4 in San Antonio reported that Del Rio became angry with a woman and assaulted her. The victim had multiple injuries to her body.

Per the report, the victim is alleging that Del Rio slapped her across the head and then asked her what she was doing. She stated to the police that he slapped her again across the head.

Police were told by the victim that they walked downstairs and this is where Del Rio forced her to put on a dress and dance for him. When she told him that she didn’t want to do this, Del Rio allegedly said he would take her son and drop him off in the middle of the road somewhere if she didn’t and also told her not to cry while doing it.

It was also noted that the arrest affidavit did detail the incident and has photographs of the victim’s injuries. This report also states that Del Rio sexually assaulted the victim.

As of this writing, Del Rio has yet to comment on the alleged situation.

Back in March, Del Rio claimed in an appearance on Nos Cayó La Noche in Mexico that he was in talks with WWE about a potential return to the company and thought a deal could be reached sometime in 2020.

It was later reported that there were no talks between WWE and Del Rio regarding him potentially making a return to the company.

Alberto Del Rio Reportedly Not Contacted By WWE

Former WWE Champion Alberto Del Rio recently claimed during an appearance on Nos Cayó La Noche in Mexico that he was in contact with WWE about a potential return.

Del Rio and WWE’s relationship over the years has been rocky, to say the least, but the Mexican Lucha star claims they have mended that bridge and he’s hoping for a return to the company sometime in 2020.

“We have been in communication, ” Alberto said. “We have rebuilt the bridge. On their part, they were wrong on some decisions and I also did some things wrong on my part. I am hoping that we can reach an agreement sometime this year or by the middle of this year I’ll be back there.”

However, according to a report from talkSPORT’s Alex McCarthy, that is not the case. McCarthy reports that Triple H, nor anyone else from WWE has contacted Del Rio about coming back to the company.

Del Rio was last with WWE back in 2016 before ultimately securing his requested release citing empty promises, including a main event push upon his return in October of 2015. He was officially released from WWE in September of 2016, before going on to work with IMPACT Wrestling for a bit, as well as working the independent circuit.

He also competed in his first mixed martial arts (MMA) fight since 2010 this past December when he was submitted by ex-UFC light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz under the Combate Americas banner in the first round.

Alberto Del Rio Claims He’s In Talks With WWE For 2020 Return

Alberto Del Rio made some interesting comments during a recent appearance on Nos Cayó La Noche in Mexico.

During the interview, not only did he claim that he’s in talks with WWE about a potential return to the company but also gave a timetable as to when this could happen.

It should be noted that there haven’t been any recent reports about his return.

“We have been in communication, ” Alberto said. “We have rebuilt the bridge. On their part, they were wrong on some decisions and I also did some things wrong on my part. I am hoping that we can reach an agreement sometime this year or by the middle of this year I’ll be back there.”

Del Rio has had two stints with the company. His previous run ended on bad terms. Since that time, he made some negative comments about the company and Triple H.

However, he has since apologized for his comments towards Triple H.

Del Rio is coming off a loss to former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Tito Ortiz in December by first-round rear-naked choke submission in a 210 catchweight bout.

Tito Ortiz Victory Over Alberto Del Rio Restored

Tito Ortiz defeated Alberto “El Patron” Rodriguez in December for Combates Americas. The fight result was briefly changed to a no-contest earlier this week, however. The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation briefly changed the fight result to a no-contest pending an investigation.

The department issued a statement to MMA JUnkie recently stating its reasons for the investigation.

“A urine sample provided by Jacob ‘Tito’ Christopher Ortiz on Dec. 7, 2019, at the Combate Americas MMA event showed a potentially disqualifying substance that Ortiz claimed was prescribed by a physician,” the statement reads. “Pending the outcome of the TDLR inquiry into whether the substance was indeed prescribed by a physician, TDLR marked the fight results as ‘No Contest.’ TDLR confirmed with the physician that the item was prescribed to Ortiz. TDLR has reinstated Ortiz’s victory in the Dec. 7 bout.”

The fight result has now officially been changed back to a 1st round submission victory for Ortiz. The win is Ortiz’s 3rd in a row having defeated Chael Sonnen and his longtime rival Chuck Liddell in his previous two fights. Ortiz has also been spotted recently training at the WWE Performance Center though he has not signed with the company.

Alberto Del Rio Reflects On Loss To Tito Ortiz

The fight came and went last month with Tito Ortiz getting his hand raised after beating Alberto Del Rio, who is now reflecting on it.

The former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion beat the former WWE Champion by first-round rear-naked choke submission in a 210 catchweight bout. The fight took place at the Payne Arena in Hidalgo, Texas that aired on pay-per-view for $29.99.

Del Rio spoke MMA Junkie for his first interview since the fight where he reflected on this tough loss in this interview.

“I was very upset, and people are never going to know what goes on in the mind of a fighter or athlete after losing a fight,” Del Rio said. “You have live another battle because you have to deal with the fact that you lost in a fight, that there’s a better man than you, that you trained so hard for so many months and that wasn’t enough.

“But after processing the loss, I felt good about it because I trained hard, I gave it my all in the training camp. It was tough adapting to the cage and I think a lot of people don’t understand.”

Alberto Del Rio Reflects

What’s interesting is the fact that Del Rio thinks that he could’ve won the fight. The reason for that is due to him thinking that he made two costly mistakes that he can fix.

“I think I could’ve won that fight, I really do,” Del Rio said. “I made some mistakes with the strategy. but once again the would’ve doesn’t exist. Ring rust is real and it was there. I made two big mistakes and with someone as experienced as Tito that’s deadly.”

Del Rio has a background as a pro-MMA fighter. Before this fight, his previous bout took place at a Cage of Combat show in Madrid, Spain in 2010 where he lost to Yamamoto Hanshi by second-round TKO.

Alberto Del Rio On Why His New Promotion Provides Health Insurance, Allows Wrestlers To Compete Elsewhere

Former WWE Champion Alberto Del Rio recently launched Nacion Lucha Libre, a new pro wrestling promotion founded with Chavo Guerrero. One defining difference between their company and other wrestling promotions is that Nacion Lucha Libre will offer their talent health insurance.

In an interview with Wrestling Inc., Del Rio explained his reasoning behind pushing for health insurance as a part of their benefits package.

“I use to work for a company that for many years that never gave me that privilege. They should be doing it,” Patron stated. “The pro-wrestling business is not fair. They call us independent contractors… if we’re independent contractors why do you not let your wrestlers go and wrestle in Mexico for CMLL or AAA or my lucha company Nacion Lucha Libre? So, you are an independent contractor just so you don’t have to give them the benefits and that’s not fair.”

He continued, “If I was complaining about it for so many years and go and do the same in my organization… that would make me a liar, a hypocrite, and I’m not any of that. So, the moment that I started the company I started talking to health insurances and companies and organizations to help me get this and give this to all my employees.”

Del Rio confessed he had no interest in denying his talent the opportunity to work, even if it means wrestling for other promotions. Reflecting on how his own career has seen him wrestle for multiple companies, Del Rio was adamant in allowing Nacion Lucha Libre talent the chance to make money and perform wherever they can.

Alberto Del Rio Talks Why He Wanted His MMA Return Fight To Be Against Tito Ortiz

Former WWE Champion Alberto Del Rio aka Alberto El Patron is making the media rounds to promote his upcoming fight with Tito Ortiz this weekend under the Combate Americas banner.

Thus, with Ortiz not being under a contract with any other organization, he thought Ortiz was a perfect choice.

“He’s the perfect person for me. He’s a legend in the sport and he’s a great fighter. We are pretty much the same age, same weight, and in fighting someone like Tito Ortiz will inspire all those Latinos, those Mexicans, who want to do something spectacular in their lives, regardless if it’s pro wrestling, MMA, or any other job.”

Alberto Del Rio Offers Thunder Rosa Advice As She Transitions To MMA

Former WWE Superstar Alberto Del Rio is set to compete against Tito Ortiz in a mixed martial arts competition in December. During a recent media event, Del Rio offered advice to a fellow pro wrestler who is transitioning into MMA: Thunder Rosa.

“You have to turn off the pro wrestling switch and start throwing punches 100 percent,” Del Rio told Wrestling Inc. “I give her a lot of credit. She’s been wanting to do this for quite some time. And it’s not easy for someone that was in the pro wrestling business, and just from one day to the other make the transition to MMA…it’s really difficult.”

He continued, “Some people know this, some others don’t, but for me it wasn’t that way. I started in amateur wrestling and I competed for many years in tournaments all over the world, and then I became a pro wrestler. Pro wrestler to MMA, MMA back to pro wrestler. I know she’s going to be doing fantastic in San Antonio, my hometown. She’s been training for this for many months. We have been supporting her as athletes in the company with Campbell and everyone else. I’m pretty sure she completely turned off the pro wrestling switch and started training because this is MMA and everything goes.”

Rosa has previously performed for both Lucha Underground and Ring of Honor (ROH) and recently had her first MMA fight. This was held under Combate Americas. She lost via unanimous decision to Nadine Mandiau.

Tito Ortiz Gets Physical With Alberto Del Rio During Staredown (Video)

Tito Ortiz and Alberto Del Rio got fans talking after a recent media appearance to promote their fight under the Combate Americas banner.

Earlier this week, Ortiz and Del Rio had a staredown which led to Ortiz shoving the former WWE star before being separated. The two stars exchanged some words. MMA Mania was able to capture the moment, which you can see here:

Del Rio spoke with the media outlet after the minor incident, which is when he noted how he thought Ortiz might do something like that at the appearance.

“I thought Tito might try something like that because I’ve noticed that he can dish out trash talk, but can’t take it when someone gives it back to him,” Del Rio said.

Del Rio added that his training partner told him after the event that he noticed how Ortiz was clenching his fist while they were on stage, which tells him that Ortiz was getting upset and might lose his cool.

The fight will take on December 7th at the Payne Arena in Hidalgo, Texas, and air on pay-per-view for $39.99.

Tito Ortiz & Alberto Del Rio Make Winner Take All Side Bet For MMA Fight

Former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Tito Ortiz is slated to former WWE Champion Alberto El Patron aka Alberto Del Rio.

The two stars decided to add some more intrigue to their fight that will impact them on a personal side. They have agreed to a side bet that will see Ortiz put his UFC title on the line while Patron will put his WWE Championship up for grabs when they set into the cage.

Ortiz and Patron spoke with MMA Junkie about putting their respective belts on the line.

“I want to put my belt up just because I’m a huge WWE fan, and I’ve always wanted a heavyweight world title. I’ve always wanted that heavyweight world title,” Ortiz stated.

He continued by reflecting on watching guys like Hulk Hogan and The Rock being champions. He thought to himself if he ever had the opportunity to go to the WWE, he knew that he could be world champion.

For Patron, he praised the idea while taking a shot at Ortiz’s IQ.

“To be honest, that’s a fantastic idea. I know he’s not too bright, but in this one, it was his idea. He came up with the idea, and it’s a fantastic one. I wish it would have been me that said, ‘Hey let’s put the titles on the line.’”

The fight will take on December 7th at the Payne Arena in Hidalgo, Texas, and air on pay-per-view for $39.99.
