  • Nikki Bella Taking Time Off Too?, Alberto Del Rio Says He’s Back Where He Belongs

    – There is speculation regarding Nikki Bella potentially taking time off with boyfriend John Cena following last night’s WWE Hell In A Cell pay-per-view. Part of that speculation stems from the fact that Bella wrote about needing to “regroup” and promising that she’ll “be back” in the following tweet.

    – New WWE United States Champion Alberto Del Rio noted via Twitter that he is back where he belongs. He posted the following on Twitter and Instagram today.

  • Alberto Del Rio Gets Special WWE Deal With Limited Dates, Will Finish Indy Bookings

In regards to Alberto Del Rio’s deal with WWE, F4WOnline.com is reporting that he has been in talks with WWE for quite some time about a return to the company, but the deal was not finalized until recently.

Del Rio’s deal is described as “great” and his schedule is said to be easier than the rest of the WWE roster, as he is not scheduled to work as many dates as the regular crew.

As of right now, Del Rio is scheduled to work the rest of the independent dates he has on his current schedule.

One of the big reasons he returned to WWE was because of money. His Lucha Underground deal was his main source of income, but after he had a falling out with the company over “creative,” returning to WWE was his only option of making that kind of money again.

  • Alberto Del Rio: “I’m Grateful For A Second Chance To Come Back To WWE”

As seen at WWE Hell In A Cell pay-per-view on Sunday night, Alberto Del Rio made his return during the show.

Del Rio was introduced by Zeb Colter during the show and went on to defeat John Cena in his “U.S. Open Challenge” to become the new WWE United States Champion.

Del Rio, who is now affiliated with Colter in the current storylines, tweeted the following after his return last night:

WWE U.S. Champion John Cena came out to kick off the pay-per-view with his “U.S. Open Challenge” and welcomed any challenger to come out. Zeb Colter came out on a motor scooter and introduced Alberto Del Rio, who went on to challenge Cena for his title.

Del Rio ended up blasting Cena with a super kick after a back-and-forth match to pick up the 1-2-3 and the WWE United States Championship.

  • Alberto El Patron In Spat With WXW Over Cancelled Booking, “Subhuman” Flight Arrangements

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b-Li5G9ePY4

Since his departure from WWE last year, Alberto El Patron, the former Alberto Del Rio, has become one of the top acts on the independent scene. Unfortunately, he’s also one of the most controversial, having had at least a few high profile incidents where he no-showed bookings either without any notice or without insufficient notice. The latest issue was with Germany’s Westside Xtreme Wrestling (WXW) and Swiss Wrestling Entertainment (SWE).

WXW issued a statement in German explaining that they had booked the dates and the Economy Plus airline seats all the way back in December after a previous cancellation by Alberto. Six days out from the events, Alberto’s manager demanded the flight be changed to Business Class airfare from a different location in Mexico than originally arranged. This would have cost WXW a $7,000 premium. WXW offered to cancel the flight, have Alberto pay the cancellation fee, and allow him to rebook a flight himself where Alberto would use his frequent flyer miles to upgrade it over what WXW was covering. That was refused and the booking was cancelled.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VCGh0CJqGgM

Alberto, for his part, tweeted out an official statement that didn’t help his cause in some eyes because he referred to the non-business class airfare as “subhuman.” That’s als considering that WXW has an excellent reputation for how they treat the wrestlers (especially the fly-ins) and Alberto’s reputation has been less than sterling. Here’s the whole statement, transcription courtesy of my friend Keith Harris at Cageside Seats:

As you know, I hardly reply to comments against me in Social Media but this time my fans are affected.

WxwGermany tried to hire me under a third party under totally different agreements than I usually do. Obviously, I did not approve and we agreed on the normal terms. Terms that are always the same. Why do they want to be treated differently? Over a year of doing [the] Independent circuit and all the promoters have agreed to [the] same terms (fees, hotel & transport, and business class).

I am deeply thankful to them.

WxwGermany take the physical challenge and please tell me/fans what promoter has flown me coach and not Business. Inquiring minds want to know.
Why is it after they have sold tickets and just a couple [of] days away from [the] event they want to cling to old agreements? How is my manager to blame? Threats of screenshots and emails. Nowadays this is easy to falsify. Let’s be professional.

Speaking of professionalism; they also did NOT supply us with a tangible itinerary or concrete information. Where was I going to stay, where and when was I to travel and match info??? More importantly where is my Working Visa papers? Were they ever prepared?

I love this sport but let’s not be fooled. Flying in a small seat for 16 hours is not comfortable. I will not be bullied by promoters into working conditions I did not agree. Not all promoters are the same. I speak against those that treat us wrestlers like subhumans. I will never bow my head to this type of treatment, but you already knew that.

Thank you to my true fans in Switzerland and Germany.

    Dignity and Respect

    Alberto

  • Alberto El Patron Pulls Out Of Wrestling Show In Germany

Alberto El Patron will no longer be appearing at Saturday’s wXw show in Mannheim, Germany due to a dispute over travel arrangements. According to wXm, El Patron is refusing to appear because he wants to be flown there via Business Class, not Economy Plus as per their agreement.

Report: WWE Interested in Bringing Back Alberto El Patron

The promotion posted the following statement on their website (translated):

“With great regret that we must by Westside Xtreme Wrestling and Swiss Wrestling Entertainment you announce that Alberto El Patron will not perceive its bookings in Europe.

We have fixed these dates already December 2014 after its cancellation for Superstars of Wrestling and then have flights from a particular city with a certain airline in the category Economy Plus agreed. Corresponding screenshotsof its management are.

On Saturday we have now written and six days before the event in Switzerland requires a flight from a small Mexican State in the category Business Class Albertos manager – cost point for this flight are at present around 7000 US dollars.

We have of course made and offered to cancel the flight, Alberto pay the cancellation fee and to allow him or his management book itself through its existing frequent flyer miles a flight on our existing agreement. This has rejected his manager and decided that Alberto El Patron and El Hijo de Dos Caras their bookings at 16.10. in Bern and at 17.10. will not perceive in Mannheim, despite the existence of the agreed flight.

Although this is outside our control, we would like to apologize wrestling fans with you – a collaboration with this wrestler and this management is excluded for us in the future”

  • WWE Looking At Bringing Back Alberto Del Rio?

As we have been reporting for a while now, WWE has been looking to sign and develop a top singles star specifically for the Hispanic market. In recent weeks, in addition to Carlito, current AAA Mega Heavyweight Champion and fellow former WWE Superstar Alberto El Patron’s name has come up.

Whether or not this means a line of communication has opened up between El Patron and WWE remains to be seen. Regardless, the latest word is that WWE is absolutely interested in re-signing El Patron if the right opportunity presents itself, despite all of their well-documented history, particularly the incident that led to El Patron and WWE going their separate ways.

With Lucha Underground confirmed now for a seconc season, a WWE return for El Patron seems unlikely.

  • Alberto Del Rio Talks Having To Unmask When WWE Signed Him

Alberto Del Rio, currently known as Alberto El Patron in AAA, is on a media tour to promote the new Combate Americas MMA promotion which he’ll be doing commentary for on NBC Universo (formerly mun2). Along the way, he gave an interview to Bleacher Report’s Jonathan Snowden in which he spoke of various topics, including the somewhat controversial one of voluntarily unmasking when he signed with WWE. Del Rio is a second generation wrestler, the son of the legendary Dos Caras and nephew of not only Mil Mascaras, but also El Sicodelico. He was carrying on his father’s legacy as Dos Caras Jr. when he signed with WWE. Snowden asked him about making the change, and here’s what he had to say:

In Mexico we see the business in a different way. But when I moved here to the States and started to work for WWE, I saw quickly the differences between one place and the other.

Here you have to be able to communicate, to tell the audience what you are feeling, your emotions. If you’re feeling pain, if you’re happy, if you’re frustrated. It helps you sell your character even better.

As far what his father and uncles thought, he said:

They did approve my decision. Before doing it, before removing the mask, I asked them. Especially my dad. I asked my dad if he was good with the idea of me doing that. Because if he would have disagreed, I wouldn’t have done it. Ever.

All my decisions are based on what my father says, because he has been with me since the beginning of my career.  The beginning of my life. For me, it’s really important what my dad has to say.

When I asked him, he was totally cool with the idea. He said “You belong with the most important wrestling company in the world. And removing the mask is going to take you to the place where you deserve to be. So be it.”

I did it and the rest is history.

In the full interview, Del Rio talks about his MMA career (where he usually wore his mask!), working for Combate Americas, CM Punk’s MMA prospects, and more.

  • Reason For WWE Stacking Deck For Mexican Tour, Undertaker’s Return & More

WWE is pulling out a lot more stops than usual for their upcoming tour of Mexico, which has shows on October 16th in Merida, October 17th at Arena Ciudad in Mexico City and October 19th at Arena Monterrey.

WWE is building the tour around the fact that The Undertaker is working all three events, billing it as Undertaker’s return to Mexico after five years.

Additionally, WWE Hall Of Famer Ric Flair will be working the shows as the guest General Manager, and part-time WWE performer Chris Jericho is scheduled as well.

The reason they are building the shows up so strong is partially due to concerns of insinuations of racism against Mexicans related to the departure of Alberto Del Rio, as well as no longer having Rey Mysterio on the roster.

  • AAA’s TripleMania Coming To U.S. & Canadian PPV: El Patron Hair Match, Mysterio

An announcement is scheduled to be made later today regarding AAA’s TripleMania event, which is their biggest event of the year, airing live on pay-per-view in the United States and Canada on Sunday, August 9th.

The show is scheduled to air from 7-10pm EST. live on all of the major pay-per-view carriers, including In Demand, Dish Network, DirecTV, Bell Canada Satellite and Rogers.

The show, which is priced at $19.95 for SD and $29.95 for HD, will be headlined by Rey Mysterio vs. Myzteziz (Sin Cara, Mistico).

Other matches scheduled for the show include Alberto El Patron (Alberto Del Rio) vs. Brian Cage in a hair vs. hair match and a trios match featuring Los Villanos III & IV & V facing The Psycho Circus in what will be the retirement match for Villano III.

  • Christopher Daniels Explains Why He Left TNA, Talks Working With El Patron, ROH

Former TNA star Christopher Daniels recently spoke with the folks at Kayfabe Kickout about his decision to leave TNA, return to ROH and more. Below are some highlights from the interview.

On whether he saw the move coming that he would have to eventually leave TNA: “I was definitely surprised and disappointed. I knew that we (Frankie and myself) weren’t being used as a top tag-team despite being told repeatedly that we were one of the most entertaining acts on the roster, but I figured that there was an ebb and flow to it all, and once TNA signed Davey Richards and Eddie Edwards, I assumed there’d be an opportunity for us to come back into the spotlight in a feud against them. But that wasn’t the case.”

On whether sees himself in the ROH Title picture after his match with Roderick Strong at Supercard of Honor IX: “Well, I believe that as one of the first talents to work at the main event level in RoH, I can always be looked upon as a viable contender to the heavyweight title. But a lot of that depends on the future for Frankie and me as a tag team, which I feel is very positive at this point.”

On working with Alberto El Patron (Alberto Del Rio): “I was very proud that the company viewed me as a potential opponent for Alberto. I felt that it was a sign of their confidence in me as a wrestler to put me in such a high-profile match.”

  • Update On Alberto El Patron Returning To MMA, New Midwest Date Announced For NXT

    – Although it was starting to look unlikely recently, it appears that Alberto El Patron (aka Alberto Del Rio) will in fact make a return to MMA fighting in the near future. As of right now, the two promotions that seem to be the most likely to obtain El Patron’s services are either Bellator MMA or Glory. • Jack Swagger On His Relationship With Jim Ross, Working With Zeb Colter, Del Rio

WWE Superstar Jack Swagger recently spoke with the folks at Ring Rust Radio about his relationship with Jim Ross and Zeb Colter, working both sides of the “We The People” gimmick as a heel and babyface, this year’s WrestleMania season and more.

Below are highlights from the interview:

On WrestleMania season and where he sees his character going: “It’s a fun time of year but it’s also a stressful time of year. WWE really likes to keep its fans on the edge of their seats and on their toes. They are always trying to keep that big swerve in their pocket for as long as possible. Right now I am unattached, so going forward I’m going to do whatever I can behind the scenes and in the ring to secure a match in WrestleMania and make it a good spot.”

On if he feels being a good worker ever feel typecasts him as a performer or limits his potential to allow fans to see more of hi personality: “Yeah, it’s a double edged sword. It does only give me so many options. I think it’s on the Superstars in this day and age to get your personality out there. We have so many tools now that we didn’t have even when I first started six years ago. Social media is such a powerful media that is a Superstar is type casted or only getting so many opportunities you can go on social media to promote yourself and your brand and give fans a chance to see that other side of your personality. That will only help your in ring performance entertainment wise though. As far as me, after you have been doing it as long as I have you constantly have to stay hungry and growing and reinvent yourself as an artist. Otherwise as an artist you will be dying and that’s what I try to keep doing as much as possible.”

On his program with Alberto Del Rio entering WrestleMania 29 and whether WWE struck gold by toeing the line: “Absolutely. It was a very hot topic across the United States. I think the WWE should do more on it along those lines and still stay PG. It made it fun and more relative to our older fans. With the story lines today, it’s very hard to generate natural interest in the WWE universe. You can’t force it down their throats; they are only going to like what they like. Having something that’s already on the tips of their tongues or on their minds, it just makes it that much easier, fun and intense. Any time you can get Glenn Beck crying it’s a good thing.”

On playing both sides of the “We the People” character and whether it was difficult for him to play a villain or was it a more entertaining role: “Growing up in Oklahoma, my High School team was renowned and very good. We would walk into places and they would just boo the hell out of us. So from a young age I got a taste of that and I liked it. The more you boo me the better I’m going to wrestle. You don’t like me? So what. It’s a lot of fun to work like that and wrestle with that mindset. I haven’t been on the other side of the ball or the we the people character. It doesn’t have the same type of fulfillment but it’s different as you can imagine Hear the people actual pop for something good or cheer a victory is nice too. I’m not sure which one I like more right now so maybe I’m going to need a six year face run to make sure.”

On working with Zeb Colter and lessons he’s learned: “Zeb Colter is unbelievable, he is priceless.I can’t tell you how many things he has helped me, other Superstars, the creative team, and even Vince with. An all-around good person and his experience is almost incomparable in this day and age in sport entertainment. Riding with him he has made me a better driver because he complains all the time. You almost get into one car accident and he never lets you forget it. That aside, with wrestling, it’s a different generation and mentality that still works. You have to take the match like that, work like that, and have that mentality. I think the main thing with him is he wants physicality. He has worked with me on a lot of things like my size and being more physical and when to do something in a certain spot. The best thing about him being out there is you never know what he is going to say ringside. There has been so many times he has said something and made me pop and I laughed right in the middle of the ring. That may be bad for some matches that’s always a good thing with me.”

On his Oklahoma days and how his relationship with Jim Ross: “I started playing football in 2001, the year after the won the National championship. I actually met Jerry Briscoe 2004 when I was half way through and he introduced me to Jim. Whenever they were in town we would get together and talk college wrestling or wrestling in general. We would talk football with Jim and have dinner. Of course they told me about it, I’m a big guy and good looking. They always said finish your degree finish college and if you want to give this a shot we will be here waiting. The last semester of college I interviewed for so many finance firms and security exchanges. There were so many jobs there but the opportunity just wasn’t as good as what the WWE was presenting. You should have seen the look on my parents faces when I told them that I was going to do it but it ended out working out pretty well. I graduated in May 2006 and by July of 2006 I was signed and moved to Deep South Wrestling.”

On the difficulty of creating submission holds or even working in different holds into matches: “It is one of the processes of being a Superstar, to always be evolving. It’s hard because everything has been done and seen before. To find something that works you can only find through trying something out there in the ring. You have to try it out there, see how it works, and see what it looks like. It is very difficult but it is very possible. Another thing too with so many guys on the roster and in NXT there are only so many moves you can do without someone else doing them. That is rule number one to me; don’t do anything else that someone else is doing. You want to be yourself and stand out. To find a move that works, stands out, and separates you from everyone else, it is hard but you can do it.”

  • Spoiler Details On Alberto El Patron’s Lucha Underground Debut

As noted recently, Alberto El Patron (aka Alberto Del Rio) made his Lucha Underground debut at the January 17th television taping in Los Angeles, California.

El Patron came out to a big pop from the fans and was announced as the AAA Mega Heavyweight Champion. While holding his title, he cut a promo in the ring and was attacked by former champion El Texano Jr., who was also making his Lucha Underground debut. Chavo Guerrero joined in on the attack, but ultimately, El Patron fought through it and put Guerrero in an armbar.

El Patron’s Lucha Underground debut is expected to air on the February 11th edition of the show on the El Rey Network.

  • One Year Ago: The 2014 WWE Royal Rumble

A lot can change over the course of a year, especially in the WWE. At last year’s Royal Rumble, Batista earned the opportunity to headline WrestleMania, going from fan favorite to Bootista in a matter of moments.

It will be Daniel Bryan, Roman Reigns, and a whole slew of others hoping to earn that opportunity this time around, as the card for this Sunday’s Royal Rumble appears to be officially set. Here is a look at the superstars who have taken a leap forward over the past year, as well as those who have taken a step backward.

    Progression

    1. The Shield

    the-shield

Nobody has progressed over the past year more than the three men who formerly comprised The Shield. Roman Reigns set the record for the most eliminations at last year’s Rumble, although he was never really seen as a serious threat to win it all. This time around, he’s the odds-on favorite to win the Rumble and headline WrestleMania.

Reigns eliminated his former partners at last year’s event as a means to tease tension between the former Hounds of Justice. Both of those men have moved onto better things. Seth Rollins will be challenging for the title this time around, and Ambrose is seen as one of the most credible entrants in the Royal Rumble match. Believe that.

    2. Brock Lesnar

    lesnar-gold

Lesnar destroyed Big Show’s back at last year’s Rumble, walloping him with a chair about 50 times in a match that lasted two minutes. His character’s direction was unclear at the time, having engaged in various feuds in 2013 that didn’t really go anywhere, largely due to Lesnar’s limited schedule.

A few accomplishments have been added to his resume since last time around. Most importantly, he apparently broke some sort of WrestleMania undefeated streak that fans held dear to their hearts. Cena and Rollins will attempt to slay the Beast this year, as he comes in as WWE World Heavyweight Champion and undisputed top dog in the company.

  • Details On How Much TNA Offered To Alberto Del Rio, Preview This Friday’s Impact (Video)

    – Following reports that TNA Wrestling was looking to acquire former WWE Superstar Alberto Del Rio, Lucha Underground announced Sunday the signing of the 38-year-old—he will be wrestling under the name Alberto El Patrón. Wrestling Observer editor Dave Meltzer reported that TNA Wrestling president Dixie Carter had wanted Del Rio to appear on the premiere episode of Impact Wrestling on the network. According to Meltzer, Del Rio declined a favorable contract from the organization.

“They (TNA) offered him $400,000 a year for minimal dates,” Meltzer noted Sunday on the F4WOnline.com message board in a thread about Del Rio joining Lucha Underground. “It says more about the perception in the industry that TNA is a career killer.”

    – Here is a video previewing this Friday’s episode of Impact Wrestling on Destination America, which will feature a Feast or Fired match.

  • Update On WWE Changing Talent Contracts, Indy Star Getting WWE Tryout

    – As noted earlier, WWE is taking steps to modify their talent contracts in response to the unceremonious departures of CM Punk and Alberto Del Rio. A new stipulation is that talent that is fired for disciplinary reasons will forfeit all merchandise rights and will have a 1-year no-compete clause that prevents them from working for pro wrestling or MMA promotions.

    – According to WWE insider ‘MetsFan4Ever,’ indy wrestler Biff Busick will be receiving a WWE tryout in Orlando next week. He has wrestled for Combat Zone Wrestling, Top Rope Promotions and Chaotic Wrestling.

Gabe Sapolsky is said to be furious at the possibility of losing Busic. Sapolsky has typically been very supportive when his talent has signed with WWE.

  • Del Rio Calls Out Racists In WWE Again, New 2K15 DLC Coming Next Week & More

    – Former WWE Superstar Alberto Del Rio called out the “racists in WWE” at this weekend’s WWL event from Puerto Rico, where Del Rio captured the WWL Heavyweight Championship. The comment came during a segment with heel authority figure Richard Negrin, whom Del Rio joined later in the show as part of the Gentleman’s Club stable.

    – It’s believed that Triple H was the WWE executive who informed Kevin Nash that his legends contract was being suspended as a result of his assault arrest.

    – 2K Games recently confirmed that the “WWE 2K15 Moves Pack” DLC will be released on January 13th. Some of the moves included are a spinning powerbomb, spike Tombstone piledriver and backslide driver.

Marcus Stephenson of 2K Games noted on Twitter that the Moves Pack was not included in the 2K Season Pass because they wanted to keep the price down for the season pass, which was already pretty high at $24.99.

    – John Cena recently granted another Make-A-Wish for WWE fan Amere at the most recent RAW tapings in Corpus Christi, Texas.

  • Update On Possibility Of Alberto Del Rio Making TNA Debut On Tonight’s Impact Wrestling

As noted, TNA officials badly want Alberto Del Rio (aka Alberto El Patron) to debut with them on their live edition of Impact Wrestling, which airs tonight on Destination America. It appears that it’s pretty unlikely that it is going to happen, because as of two days ago, the two sides weren’t even close to reaching a deal.

Del Rio signing with TNA at any point down the road may even be a long shot, likely due to the fact that he’s receiving so many offers right now, many of which would conflict with TNA.

Additionally, those close to Del Rio have advised him that TNA is nothing more than a sinking ship and does nothing but hurt the careers of talents who work there.

  • Update On Del Rio Possibly Working For TNA & Fighting MMA

After making his Ring of Honor debut at Saturday night’s TV tapings from Nashville, Tennessee (Photos), former WWE Superstar Alberto Del Rio is currently fielding offers from both TNA and Bellator MMA.

TNA is continuing to push hard for Del Rio to join TNA and appear at Wednesday’s live Impact Wrestling premiere on Destination America. TNA President Dixie Carter really wants to present a fresh product on Wednesday and the feeling is that Del Rio would be a huge get for them. If TNA does get Del Rio to appear on Impact, it will have to be a non-exclusive offer, since he’s committed to work for ROH through March.

Del Rio is also still weighing the possibility of accepting a lucrative offer, believed to be seven figures, to fight for the Bellator MMA promotion. Del Rio, who will be 38 later this year, has experience as an MMA fighter but hasn’t competed in many years.
