  • CM Punk, Alberto Del Rio Situations Force WWE To Change All Performers Contracts

After the recent situations with CM Punk and Alberto Del Rio, WWE has put in all performer contracts a stipulation that states if they are fired for disciplinary reasons, they forfeit all merchandise rights and they can’t work in either pro wrestling or mixed-martial-arts for a full year.

It’s believed that such a stipulation would not hold up in court, however it would take a lot of money and resources to challenge it and find out, and most talents are that well off to take that kind of chance.

  • Backstage Update On Alberto Del Rio’s MMA Return, Plans For His ROH Run

As noted recently, there have been negotiations ongoing between Bellator MMA officials and former WWE Superstar Alberto Del Rio (aka Alberto El Patron). It appears that Del Rio will definitely be making a return to the MMA world, as there is apparently another MMA company that is bidding for his services as well. It’s expected that Del Rio will take the better money offer.

As far as his upcoming work in Ring Of Honor, it’s being said that Del Rio specifically asked to work a match with ACH because he thinks he is a really talented performer, and because he’s from San Antonio. Del Rio also reportedly asked to work matches against Roderick Strong and Kyle O’Reilly.

ROH is reportedly looking to book a Del Rio vs. Jay Lethal match for their pay-per-view event on March 1st.

  • TNA Makes A Big Money Play To Sign Alberto Del Rio

TNA reportedly made another attempt at signing Alberto Del Rio. According to one source, TNA made a very serious money offer, rumored to be in the $400,000 per year range.

One of the issues in the negotiations is said to be TNA’s attempt to get exclusivity of Del Rio, as it is widely known that he plans to work for AAA’s Lucha Underground show in 2015, as well as Ring Of Honor, the latter of which is already being officially advertised.

It’s believed that if TNA wants a shot at Del Rio, they’ll have to either drop the request for exclusivity or up the money offer. Apparently, TNA is trying to sell Del Rio on the fact that he’ll get more exposure in the United States by working with them.

Because of the fact that current TNA executive John Gaburick worked closely with Del Rio during their time in WWE, it’s said that he is pushing hard to get him.

  • Alberto Del Rio The Next Former WWE Superstar To Jump To MMA?

There is said to be of interest from MMA companies in signing former WWE Superstar Alberto Del Rio (Alberto Rodriguez). Following up on the blockbuster news that CM Punk has signed a multi-fight deal to compete in UFC, Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer reports that CM Punk jumping to the world of Mixed Martial arts is just the beginning.

Last month, Bellator MMA proved once again that MMA is a star-driven business, with the Tito Ortiz vs. Stephan Bonnar fight on Spike TV being called a “game changer” for the entire industry. That show did record ratings on Spike up against the UFC pay-per-view from Mexico City.

Meltzer said that you would not believe some of the stuff that is going to happen in the next couple of weeks, if certain negotiations go through.

Del Rio trained with MMA fighter Marco Ruas and fought for the MMA Promotion “Deep” in the early 2000s. He would go on to sign with with Pride Fighting Championships in 2003, earning himself a 14-9 MMA record, with 2 of the wins by knockout and 7 by way of submission submission.

If Del signs with Bellator or UFC, that would mark the third former WWE Champion to sign with a major MMA company (plus, Bobby Lashley fighting for Bellator).

Del Rio’s recently contractual settlement with WWE is similar to CM Punk’s situation, in the sense that WWE tried to include a no-compete clause that would have prevented him from jumping to MMA (or TNA).

FOX Sports writer Damon Martin noted on twitter that Rodriguez is itching to fight.

Del Rio was in Mexico last night. Prior to UFC 181 going live on pay-per-view, he was asking fans on twitter to help him find a way to watch the show in Guadalajara.

  • Ranking Every TLC Pay-Per-View

Next Sunday, the WWE will dust off the tables, ladders, chairs, and apparently stairs for its annual hardcore spectacular. This year’s event will be held in Cleveland, Ohio and will be the sixth incarnation of the pay-per-view.

This will be only the second TLC pay-per-view to not feature a WWE Championship match, as Brock Lesnar is still sitting at home collecting a paycheck. In the past, the WWE has used this event to lay the groundwork for the Road to WrestleMania while providing a sense of finality to various feuds with the hardcore element. With that said, here is a look back at the first five TLC pay-per-view events.

  • VIDEO: Alberto Del Rio Shoots On CM Punk’s WWE Departure

Former WWE Superstar Alberto Del Rio recently sat down with the folks at WrestleTalk TV for an in-depth “shoot” style interview.

During the discussion, Del Rio spoke about CM Punk walking out on WWE.

“He went from driving 1000 miles to get 30 dollars, and he made it to the big stage,” said Del Rio. “But there was one day he wasn’t happy what was going on.”

The former WWE Champion also recalled how Punk’s walk-out affected him on the night that it happened.

“I had a match with Kofi Kingston that night for Raw, and it was only to be eight minutes,” said Del Rio. “[Referee] Mike Chioda approached me and said ‘We need for you to do another 14 minutes.’”

“He’s a guy that believes what he’s saying, what he’s thinking, and because of that he has all of the respect in the world (from me),” said Del Rio of Punk.

You can check out an excerpt from the interview where Del Rio discusses Punk’s WWE departure above.

  • One Year Ago: WWE Survivor Series

We are just days away from the WWE’s latest pay-per-view, Survivor Series. At last year’s event, Randy Orton defended his championship against the Big Show in a highly criticized main event. This time around, it will be John Cena risking his job in an attempt to slay the Authority.

The shelf life of a WWE superstar can be short, so it’s always important for competitors to make the most of their time in the ring, especially at pay-per-views. Here is a look at the superstars who have progressed, regressed, or remained stagnant over the past year.

    Progression:

    Luke Harper

    luke-harper

Harper has made tremendous strides over the past year. He and former partner Erick Rowan were destroyed by Daniel Bryan and CM Punk at last year’s Survivor Series. He walks into this year’s event as a surprise Intercontinental Champion, and is booked into the main event with Team Authority. Harper’s stock is definitely on the rise.

    Ryback

    ryback-ses-5

It appears the company is once again fond of Ryback. The Big Guy was basically buried in the midcard after his feud with John Cena last year, including a quick defeat at the hands of Mark Henry last year at Survivor Series. He has been the focal point of WWE television over the past few weeks, so it will be interesting to see where they go from here. One can hope that this isn’t simply a stopgap measure until guys like Reigns and Lesnar get back on television.

    Honorable Mention: Ambrose/Rollins

    Dean-Ambrose-attacks-Seth-Rollins

It’s difficult to talk about progression without mentioning the former Shield brothers. These two were destroyed last year in a match whose only purpose was to get Roman Reigns over as a singles competitor. (Dean Ambrose was eliminated 2 minutes into this match and Rollins eventually stepped aside so the Spear party could commence.) What difference a year makes, however. Rollins is the leader of Team Authority and arguably the star of the main event, while Ambrose has elevated himself and will attempt to solidify the midcard on Sunday.

  • Alberto Del Rio To Sign With TNA In 2015?

As noted earlier this week, former WWE Superstar Alberto Del Rio stated in a recent interview that he plans to sign with two wrestling companies with television deals in 2015. Those two companies are apparently Lucha Underground and TNA.

During some appearances in the Northeast this past weekend, Del Rio made it clear that he intends to work for both Lucha Underground and TNA next year. There’s no word on how that would work out from a contractual standpoint, however that appears to be Del Rio’s plan.

Del Rio said he was so happy to be there because just a week ago, he didn’t think he’d be able to wrestle in the United States for a year. Del Rio said it was great to be in the ECW Arena for the first time, which led to an ECW! chant and then a “F*CK MCMAHON” chant. Del Rio said in House of Hardcore, they are wrestlers, not Sports Entertainers.

  • Backstage News On When Alberto Del Rio Will Debut On Lucha Underground TV

As noted recently, Alberto Del Rio’s settlement with WWE allows him to drop the non-compete clause that was part of his WWE deal. As a result, Del Rio will be free to work for the AAA Lucha Underground promotion.

Lucha Underground’s next set of television tapings are scheduled for January 17th, so it’s expected that he will start with the promotion then.

It’s worth mentioning that Del Rio appears to be a pretty significant draw outside of WWE in international markets, particularly Spanish-language markets, as he recently helped sell out an 8,000 seat building in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico for a AAA live event.

  • In-Depth Update On The Terms Of Alberto Del Rio & WWE’s Joint-Settlement

As noted recently, Alberto Del Rio and WWE reached a joint-settlement regarding his non-compete clause with the company. The settlement was officially announced by both Del Rio and WWE.

The belief is both sides agreed that Del Rio would no longer make negative comments about the company in public, most notably racism claims against top WWE officials and talking about racist jokes that go on behind-the-scenes. In return, Del Rio received a financial settlement that included his non-compete being dropped, as long as he doesn’t use the Del Rio name.

WWE has apparently been worried for a while about keeping their Hispanic audience and growing it, so they were said to be very conscious about being tied to any sort of racism against Hispanics.

According to a source close to the situation, the settlement between Del Rio and WWE was said to be a last-minute thing. There was reportedly a joint settlement at one point that was expected to include a stipulation that would see WWE issuing an apology for inappropriate comments. WWE had reportedly agreed to that but it was later taken out of the deal in their written settlement agreement. Apparently Del Rio had already agreed to the financial settlement and the non-compete being dropped, so he didn’t press the apology stipulation.

Additionally, it’s believed that the settlement included an agreement that states Del Rio would not sue the company.

While the terms of his “understanding” are not yet known, it seems reasonable to assume that certain restrictions against Del Rio working for other companies have been lifted, after he was fired from the company this summer.

With Del Rio (and the original Sin Cara) recently speaking out about racism behind the scenes from top company officials, it’s possible Del Rio was granted more freedom to work elsewhere in exchange for not taking legal action against the company.

  • Original Sin Cara Talks About Racism In WWE

Earlier this week, former WWE Superstar Alberto Del Rio made some very controversial comments to Fighting Spirit Magazine where he talked about experiencing racism from top WWE officials. (Read Here)

AAA wrestler Myzteziz, also known as the “Original Sin Cara” in WWE, spoke to MedioTiempo.com and revealed that he was also subject to a lot racism from behind the scenes. He said the “gringos” (oh no he didn’t) in WWE could be “very racist,” with the “bosses” even making racial remarks around him.

Myzteziz says that he does not cite racism as the reason he didn’t succeed in WWE, but feels it created a bad environment for minorities.

Despite the racism he claims to have experienced in WWE, he does not rule out a return to the company. He’s open to working for WWE, other promotions in the United States as well as Mexico and Japan.
