Ember Moon defeated Kairi Sane, Peyton Royce and Nikki Cross at tonight’s WWE NXT “Takeover: WarGames” event to capture the vacant NXT Women’s Title. She was presented the title by former champion Asuka and NXT General Manager William Regal after the match.
This is Ember’s first title run in NXT. The title has been vacant ever since the undefeated Asuka relinquished the title back in the summer before her main roster call-up to RAW.
Below are photos and videos from tonight’s Fatal 4 Way:
BOOM! Studios, publisher of WWE’s comic book series, have announced that the Women’s Revolution will be the featured storyline for WWE #14, set to be released in February 2018.
WWE #14 will also kick off a 4-part bonus story chronicling the rise of former NXT Champion and WWE Superstar Asuka. BleedingCool.com first broke the news.
Written by Tini Howard and illustrated by Hyeonjin Kim, the four-issue story arc will highlight Asuka’s entire WWE career thus far, from her rise through NXT (including her 510 day NXT Women’s Championship reign) through her main roster debut on the RAW brand.
“My story follows Asuka from her debut in NXT to RAW where she is today,” says writer Tini Howard. “I can’t help but love Asuka—she’s a larger-than-life character that has captivated the WWE Universe around the world.”
“Nobody is ready for Asuka—in the ring, no one can match the powerful ‘Empress of Tomorrow,’” artist Hyeonjin Kim says. “It’s a thrilling experience to be able to draw her sheer force on paper. I hope the readers can feel the action.”
BOOM! Studios Associate Editor Chris Rosa says, “It’s been a long time since we’ve seen a Superstar start their career with an undefeated streak that spanned over one hundred matches. Once Asuka’s debut on the Monday Night RAW roster was announced for TLC, it was clear the time was now to tell her story, and Tini and Hyeonjin are the perfect team to do it.”

– Former WWE NXT Women’s Champion Asuka made her WWE main roster debut last night at the Tables Ladders and Chairs (TLC) pay-per-view (PPV) when she picked up a win against Emma. The match was a lot more competitive than fans expected, however, Asuka emerged victorious from the back-and-forth affair when it was all said and done. A fan criticized Asuka on Twitter after the event, and here’s how she responded:
– WWE posted the following promo to hype SmackDown Live Commissioner Shane McMahon’s return to Tuesday nights after his Hell In A Cell loss to Kevin Owens. Check it out:
– WWE Superstar Sasha Banks did an interview with City Pages to promote this weekend’s Tables Ladders and Chairs (TLC) pay-per-view (PPV), which will feature the debut of former NXT Women’s Champion Asuka. “The Legit Boss” explained why she wants a match with Asuka and what it would mean to her:
“I wanna see the Boss versus the Empress of Tomorrow, that’d be amazing,” Banks said. “The match between her and the Legit Boss would prove to the world that I am the greatest NXT Women’s Champion of all time and the greatest women’s wrestler of all time. I say bring it on.”
– Dash Wilder, who has been working matches on WWE Main Event while his partner Scott Dawson recovers from a right bicep injury, took to Twitter to fire some shots at The Young Bucks yesterday. Check it out here:
RAW’s Women’s Champion, Alexa Bliss, recently spoke to Channel Magazine about the “Unleash Your Warrior” breast cancer campaign and why pink is her favourite colour. The interview also included comments on her relationship with Nia Jax, working with Mickie James in the ring, and Asuka’s arrival to RAW. Here are some highlights:
How Alexa Bliss and Nia Jax first met:
“We have the talent help out with the tryouts to make sure everything goes smoothly or if someone who is doing the try out needs help. I remember during the talent lunch break, Nia comes up to me as I’m doing cardio on the treadmill. She just comes up to me and starts talking to me like she has never met a stranger in her life. We instantly clicked and have been best friends ever since.”
Working with Mickie James in the ring:
“Mickie is so amazing because she has so many ideas. She is a wealth of knowledge since she has been in the business for so long. She is super sweet and open to ideas. I’m looking forward to continuing our program. She always says, ‘Well, I’m six one way and half dozen the other.’ We always go that she makes scrambled eggs. That’s not a thing she taught us. If it doesn’t work out today, it will tomorrow. Six one way and half dozen the other. It happens. Things can work out tomorrow. She is very casual that way, which keeps it a stress-free environment. That is so nice to have.”
However, at the bottom of the article Bliss mentions the arrival of Asuka to RAW at TLC on October 22nd, stating that:
“I know after the Four Horsewomen, any women that comes up after has to be the evolution to the women’s revolution. I think Asuka is just the person to do that. We are all excited about being a part of everything happening.”
It’s clear that talent is not missing from the Women’s division, on RAW or SmackDown Live, but Asuka appears to be setting the bar higher than ever before. This is even more apparent as we see superstars fighting over who gets to be involved in Asuka’s first match at RAW’s next PPV: TLC
Opinion: As Alexa says in the interview, it’s a great time to be part of the women’s division on RAW. “Evolution of the Women’s Revolution” sounds like a beautiful piece of marketing and this should be used to be prepare the WWE Universe for Asuka’s arrival and the step up that will come with it.
I think that Asuka vs Charlotte is the ultimate goal, but neither of them will be moving brand before Wrestlemania in April so we’ll have to wait to see all potential dream match ups.
– While WWE has not yet announced any matches for tonight’s RAW, PWInsider reports that Nia Jax, Emma and Alicia Fox will square off in a triple threat match with the winner facing Asuka at TLC next weekend. It begs the question – with Asuka’s reign of terror in NXT, who would actually want to face her?
– On Monday Triple H announced NXT live events from Pittsburgh, PA (11/30), Altoona, PA (12/1) and Bel Air, MD (12/2). Tickets go on sale this Friday morning.
– During Sunday’s WWE Hell in a Cell pay-per-view from Detroit, the commentary team noted that the show was sold out with over 16,000 fans in attendance. Photos are surfacing online showing the show was far from a sell-out, with lots of open seats even in the lower sections of the arena. Click to enlarge:
– Former WWE Superstar Wade Barrett (Stu Bennett) recently spoke with SPORTbible about his new role as General Manager of Defiant Wrestling (formerly WCPW) and his WWE run, including Nexus, the Bad News Barrett gimmick, the League of Nations and more.
When asked if he expects to return to WWE in the future, Barrett said:
“I would never rule out going back in some capacity. I wouldn’t say it was the best of terms that we left on; I think there was a lot of resentment, certainly from my side, with certain people in management there. I don’t think we’ll be sending each other Christmas cards at the moment but I’ve certainly not gone out my way to trash them, they haven’t gone out of their way to trash me, so I think a little water under the bridge might do us both some good.”
He added that he’s 99% certain he will wrestle again at some point, he just doesn’t know when.
– Former WWE announcer Taz is no fan of WWE ring announcer Greg Hamilton. He tweeted on Sunday night:
– Former NXT Women’s Champion Asuka is set to make her main roster debut next weekend at the RAW brand’s Tables, Ladders & Chairs pay-per-view. While no opponent has been announced for the Empress of Tomorrow, Asuka appears to have her sights set on Sasha Banks. Over the weekend, she tweeted to Sasha noting that she wants to give her a massage. The Boss gave a puzzled response.
– As we’ve previously noted, former NXT Women’s Champion Asuka is set to make her main roster debut on the RAW brand at next month’s (Sun. October 22, 2017) Tables Ladders and Chairs (TLC) pay-per-view (PPV).
While it has not been announced who her opponent will be at the PPV, Asuka’s old NXT foe, Mickie James, took to Twitter to react to the news of her debut:
– The WWE uploaded the following video of Bayley following her loss to RAW Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss at No Mercy last night. Bayley stated that despite the setback she still plans on becoming the new RAW Women’s Champion:
Asuka defeated Ember Moon at NXT TakeOver:Brooklyn III, but suffered a collarbone injury during the match. Asuka then relinquished the NXT Championship and NXT General Manager announced that he had been negotiating with RAW GM Kurt Angle and SmackDown GM Daniel Bryan to find Asuka a landing spot on the main roster.
It was then announced in a vignette that Asuka will join the RAW roster. WWE has aired a couple vignettes on RAW recently to hype the Empress of Tomorrow’s RAW debut. The following was aired on this past Monday’s episode.
WWE has just announced on Twitter when Asuka will officially be making her RAW debut. She will debut on WWE’s TLC PPV next month on October 22nd. Asuka will definitely have her eyes on the RAW Women’s Championship, which will be defended tonight at No Mercy in a Fatal 5-Way match between Alexa Bliss, Bayley, Nia Jax, Sasha Banks and Emma.
– Ring Of Honor (ROH) stars The Young Bucks recently reached out to former WWE World Heavyweight Champion and current SmackDown Live General Manager Daniel Bryan to ask if they could use his ‘YES!’ chant while using the ‘Too Sweet’ sign at the same time. Bryan later responded to the Bucks, agreeing to allow them to use it:
– Following a collarbone injury she suffered at NXT TakeOver, former NXT Women’s Champion Asuka is set to make her main roster debut on Monday Night RAW soon once her collarbone is all healed up. NXT aired the following video looking back at Asuka’s historic career with the brand, and you can check it out here:
On tonight’s episode of RAW, a vignette was shown for former NXT Women’s Champion Asuka. The video revealed that Asuka will be joining the RAW roster soon. Asuka never lost the NXT Women’s Championship, but was forced to relinquish the title due to injury after defeating Ember Moon at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn III.
Asuka will now have her sights set on the RAW Women’s Championship when she joins the main roster in the near future.
John Cena pokes fun at Roman Reigns for failing a drug test
This week’s episode of RAW kicked off with Roman Reigns versus Jason Jordan. Reigns won the match but it took him around twenty minutes. John Cena defeated Jordan last week on RAW, but Reigns made fun of Cena for taking over twenty minutes to defeat Jordan. Cena came down to the ring after the match tonight for a promo with Roman Reigns.
During the promo, Reigns bragged about ticket sales and the revenue he brings in. Reigns claimed that WWE doesn’t need Cena anymore and that Cena needs WWE because he cannot break into Hollywood. Cena then got in Reigns’ face and said “at No Mercy, consider me like a drug test homes, you ain’t getting passed me”. Roman Reigns was suspended for violating WWE’s Wellness Policy in July of 2016.
John Cena will face Roman Reigns at WWE No Mercy on September 24th.
Last week, Asuka officially relinquished the NXT Women’s Championship as she gears up for the next big challenge in her WWE career. According to PWInsider, the “Empress of Tomorrow” will be joining the RAW brand when she makes her WWE television debut in the near future.
On RAW, Asuka will will have her work cut out for. The brand’s top female competitors include RAW Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss, Bayley, Sasha Banks, Nia Jax, Dana Brooke, and Emma.
Asuka is currently out of action with an injury to her right collarbone. While she won’t be wrestling for several more weeks, she will be going overseas to Japan with the SmackDown crew next week in a non-wrestling capacity. A special SmackDown live event is scheduled for Saturday, September 16th from Osaka, Japan at the Edion Arena.
It’s worth noting that the WWE Network will be releasing a special collection featuring Asuka’s best matches in the first week of October. While there’s no confirmed date for Asuka’s RAW debut, the WWE Network collection will likely be used to help introduce her to the mainstream WWE audience.

This week’s episode of NXT on the WWE Network episode saw undefeated NXT Women’s Champion Asuka relinquish her title. Asuka is recovering from a collarbone injury sustained at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn III, but the storyline is that she is looking to pursue other challenges in WWE.
WWE is recognizing Asuka’s reign at 523 days – from April 1st, 2016 (when she won the title from Bayley at Takeover: Dallas) through September 6, 2017.
It was also noted that she and NXT General Manager William Regal are currently negotiating for her call-up to RAW or SmackDown. Regal praises Asuka as an incredible champion for defending the title for 523 days and says he doesn’t see that happening ever again. Regal says he’s got a lot of thinking to do about the future because someone deserves a chance at the title and he needs to think about the best way to do that.
Regal promises an announcement to come soon.
With Asuka’s main roster debut on the horizon, WWE COO Triple H thanked the Empress of Tomorrow for a memorable championship reign.
We noted before that the now former NXT Women’s Champion Asuka suffered a broken collarbone during her match at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn III which forced her to relinquish the belt she held for 500+days.
While William Regal announced that he has started negotiating to send the former champion to the Main Roster, nothing was announced about the faith of the vacated Championship which left fans speculating what’s next. Though now a new report has revealed what the company has planned.
Dave Meltzer discussed this situation during the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio and revealed that WWE is planning for the winner of the Mae Young Classic Tournament to be rewarded with the title.
The live final of the Mae Young Classic will take place from Las Vegas on Tuesday, September 12th, following the SmackDown episode scheduled for that day.
As for Asuka, we reported before how WWE is possibly planning for her to join the Raw Brand and make her Main Roster debut at an upcoming PPV
Asuka has proven to be one of the most dominant Champion WWE has seen in years since winning the NXT Women’s Championship back in April 2016 by defeating Bayley.
She held the title for an impressive 500+ days before being forced to relinquish it during the latest NXT tapings due to an injury she suffered during NXT Takeover: Brooklyn III.
While it was unfortunate to see her historic title reign coming to an end this way, it also opened the door to a lot of new possibilities for the Japanese star as William Regal announced that he has started negotiating to send Asuka to the main roster.
Since then people have been speculating what WWE may have planned for the future of the NXT Star and now it appears the possible plans for her main roster debut have been revealed.
Former WWE employee and friend of the site James McKenna indicated on twitter that Asuka will be joining the Raw Brand and would be debuting at the upcoming Raw exclusive PPV TLC in October after recovering from her injury:
throwing it out there – from what i am hearing w/ recovery of her injury. first appearance for asuka is slated to be oct's TLC in Minnesota.
While these plans are not a done deal just yet considering the fact that Bobby Roode made his debut on SmackDown it looks likely that the Empress Of Tomorrow will become the part of the Raw roster.
Asuka defended her NXT Women’s Championship against Ember Moon on Saturday at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn III. Asuka defeated Moon, but WWE has announced today that she suffered an injury during the match.
WWE announced that Asuka broke her right collarbone during the match. The typical recovery time for the injury is 6-8 weeks.
WWE posted the following statement from ringside physician Dr. Jeffrey Westfield, who tended to Asuka in Brooklyn:
“During the match, she landed awkwardly from a throw from Ember Moon and was able to complete the match, but had notable pain and discomfort,” Dr. Westerfield said. “We performed an initial ultrasound backstage that was highly suspicious of a break that was later confirmed by an X-ray.”

– Today marks 500 days that Asuka has been NXT Women’s Champion. She defeated Bayley for the title at NXT Takeover: Dallas back on April 1st, 2016. Asuka’s “longest undefeated streak in WWE history” gets put to the test this Saturday night when she defends against Ember Moon at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn.
– Dolph Ziggler returned to action at Monday night’s SmackDown brand live event from Springfield, MA. It was his first WWE appearance in about two weeks. Along with Chad Gable, Ziggler competed in a triple threat match that saw AJ Styles retain the United States Championship. Ziggler appeared in his usual ring gear despite speculation that WWE is considering revamping his look.
– Johnny Gargano turned 30 years old on Monday and his former tag team partner Tommaso Ciampa posted the following on Twitter.
NXT Women’s Champion Asuka recently spoke to Newsweek and below are some highlights from the interview:
Her goals in WWE:
“When I decided to sign a contract with WWE, I decided two things. I was determined not only to win, but to leave [breaking] records. That is something I feel like I can do as a return to WWE [for hiring me].”
Bridging the gap between men and women in WWE:
When I got the call from WWE, I asked them why they picked me, and they told me, ‘Among all the women’s wrestlers, you’re the one we want to pick.’ I felt a lot of expectation. I felt I had to do my best to [prove I’m the best to] them. I wanted to change women’s wrestling in WWE. In wrestling, men and women do the same thing, but sometimes the men look more powerful and more impressive. I am trying my best to fill the gap between men and women.”
Her relationship with Triple H:
“I have a big trust in him. Whenever I have an idea, I always talk to him. He always gives me amazing advice.”
Who she wants to face in WWE:
“I don’t use the words ‘respect’ or ‘admire’ toward my opponents, but I’m interested to have matches with Sasha and Charlotte. Those two women I’ve never faced before.”
Asuka will defend her NXT Women’s Championship against Ember Moon at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn III on August 19th at the Barclays Center.

NXT this week featured a women’s championship match and the NXT debut of Mauro Ranallo. Matches for the show were taped last Friday.
NXT June 28th 2017 Full Sail University
1. The Velveteen Dream vs. HoHo Lun
This was a showcase match for the Dream.
He hit a jackhammer and a flying elbow for the win.
Winner: Velveteen Dream
2. Hideo Itami vs. Oney Lorcan
Last time these two met, Itami took things too far by continuing to land GTS’ until Kassius Ohno made the save.
This time, Lorcan was looking for revenge. He landed several uppercuts early until blood started to come from Itami’s nose and the ref delayed the match.
After Itami was attended to he eventually took control of the match.
Unlike last week, he only gave Lorcan one GTS and then pinned him.
Winner: Hideo Itami
After the match, Itami called Ohno down to the ring.
Before the two could advance their angle however, members of Sanity hit the ring and beat them both up.
Alexander Wolfe then said their leader, Eric Young, was working on a master plan for the faction.
3. NXT Women’s Championship Asuka (c) vs. Nikki Cross
This was NXT’s first ever Last Woman Standing match.
Lots of weapon spots, including Asuka landing several kicks on Cross while she was inside a trash can.
Both of them slammed each other into a pile of steel chairs.
Cross gave Asuka a power-bomb, resulting in the first NXT “Mamma Mia!” call from Ranallo.
They set up a ladder by the NXT broadcast booth and Asuka gave Cross a suplex off the ladder and through the announce table.
Asuka got back up at 9, but Cross stayed down for 10, giving Asuka the win.
For the 3rd straight WWE show this week a women’s division is featured in the main event. On NXT, the longtime dominant champion, Asuka, will defend her NXT championship against Nikki Cross.
As a result of the brawl the two had throughout Full Sail University recently, NXT GM William Regal has elected to make this a Last Woman Standing match.
NXT Tonight
While no other matches have been officially announced for the show, Kassius Ohno and Hideo Itami are expected to continue their angle.
Ohno and Itami have been teasing a feud ever since Itami lost his NXT title match to Bobby Roode. Itami began throwing things backstage when he was confronted by Ohno. Similar incidents have taken place in the weeks since.
Asuka to defend NXT Women’s Title against Nikki Cross in Last Woman Standing Match
NXT Women’s Champion Asuka will put her coveted title on the line against the crazed Nikki Cross on the June 28 episode of NXT. The title showdown will be a Last Woman Standing Match, further adding to the uncertainty and chaos surrounding the huge championship contest.
The extreme stipulation was a logical next step in Asuka and Cross’s rivalry after the two brawled throughout Full Sail University on the June 14 episode of NXT. Along with Ruby Riot, they competed in a Triple Threat Elimination Match for the NXT Women’s Title. After Riot had been eliminated, Asuka and Cross fought outside the arena, only to return and eventually crash through a table, leaving them laid out in a heap of carnage.
Asuka’s record-breaking NXT Women’s Title reign has overcome many obstacles, but she has yet to face a challenger as crazy as Cross in a bout that caters to chaos like a Last Woman Standing Match. Will we see the end of The Empress of Tomorrow’s historic title reign?
Find out on Wednesday, June 28, at 8/7C on the award-winning WWE Network.
The main event of this week’s NXT was a women’s championship 3-way elimination match. Asuka would once again defend her title against Ruby Riot and Nikki Cross.
NXT June 14th 2017 Full Sail University
1. Drew McIntyre vs. Rob Ryzin
No highlights of this match were posted.
This was a showcase match for Drew.
McIntyre wins a quick bout, finishing him off with a Yakuza kick.
Winner: Drew McIntyre
2. Authors of Pain vs. Anthony Dominguez & William Freyday
Only Akam wrestled for AOP in this match. Rezar just stayed on the outside and talked with Paul Ellering.
Akam finished off the local talent, and his partner finally came into the ring after the match to deliver the Super Collider.
They cut a promo about how Heavy Machinery were foolish to challenge them.
This brought out Heavy Machinery and the 2 teams stared each other down for a moment.
Paul Ellering got in between the four of them and ordered his team to back away.
Winners: Authors of Pain
3. The Velveteen Dream vs. Raul Mendoza
The Velveteen Dream does not appear to be going by Patrick Clark anymore.
He wins clean here with a very Macho Man-esque flying elbow drop.
4. NXT Women’s Championship Match 3-Way Elimination Match Asuka (c) vs. Ruby Riot vs. Nikki Cross (Sanity)
Cross picked up the first pin by eliminating Riot with a corkscrew neck breaker while Riot was draped on the top rope.
Asuka and Cross then just started to have a wild brawl.
They brawled to the back and the ref waved the match off.
In the final move of the brawl Cross hit Asuka with a cross body that took both of them through a table.
NXT Women’s Champion Asuka recently won her 177th match in NXT, surpassing Bill Goldberg’s fabled 176-0 streak from the glory days of WCW. Both Asuka and Goldberg commented on her accomplishment:
I respect Goldberg so much. He is amazing. I am honored to be the undefeated champion with the longest streak in WWE history. #WWE#WWENXTpic.twitter.com/eOZXIj4NGV
Goldberg’s streak, according to WCW storylines, ended at 176-0. In reality, that streak was only 158 wins and he actually lost a non-televised match to Chad Fortune at a WCW Saturday Night taping early in his career. In Goldberg’s autobiography, he stated that management were testing to see how he would react to losing a match, and when he didn’t complain, they continued pushing his undefeated streak.
Asuka has never been pinned or submitted in NXT, but she has been in matches where she didn’t win. In 2016, she didn’t win 3 straight fatal 4-way matches, which were all won by Bayley. She was also in a battle royal she didn’t win.
There is a lot of confusion currently regarding how many wins Goldberg started his WCW career off with, and where Asuka’s current NXT streak is at. This post should clear up that confusion.
Goldberg’s Streak
According to the long-standing German pro-wrestling statistic site: cagematch.net, Goldberg competed in 159 matches before losing to Kevin Nash at Starccade 98. What is not common knowledge however, is Goldberg’s 1997 loss to Chad Fortune at a set of WCW Saturday Night tapings. The match never aired, and was supposedly a test to see how Goldberg would react to being asked to lose. It is mentioned in Goldberg’s autobiography as well.
Goldberg would then go 153-0. The number often mentioned by WWE (and previously by WCW) is 173-0. Even if you ignore the un-televised loss to Fortune, his streak was stopped at 158.
Asuka’s Streak
Asuka’s streak, while longer, is less concrete than Goldberg’s. Often not acknowledged is the 4 matches Asuka has wrestled in NXT where she was not the winner. The first match occurred in January of 2016, when she was eliminated from a battle royal. She then failed to win 3 fatal 4-way matches for the NXT championship within a week of each other in late February and early March of 2016. All 3 matches were won by Bayley and took place on the NXT live tour.
Take those matches out of the equation and Asuka’s NXT streak is 175-0. If you include those 4 non-wins, Asuka has won 130 straight since her last non-win in NXT.
1. Killian Dain vs. Danny Burch
Burch got in a little bit of offence, but for the most part this was a showcase match for Dain. The 32-yeear old Irish member of Sanity picked up the win with the Ulster Plantation, a 1-handed electric-chair driver. Winner: Killian Dain
2. Heavy Machinery vs. Local Talent
The tag-team of Heavy Machinery won a quick squash match here. After the match they said they want to face the Authors of Pain for the NXT tag titles. Winners: Heavy Machinery
In the back Bobby Roode is seen giving advice to Kona Reeves, who will face Hideo Itami later in the show
Also in the back, Team DIY state in an interview that they deserve a match with Authors of Pain next, not Heavy Machinery.
3. Hideo Itami vs. Kona Reeves
Possibly acting on the advice Roode gave him, Reeves attacked Itami before the bell to gain an advantage. It worked for a bit, but eventually Itami battled back, and gave Reeves the GTS for the win. Winner: Hideo Itami
Who is Roderick Strong? Part II
Last week a video package aired which detailed the troubled upbringing of Roderick Strong. This week’s video focusses more on his adult life.
4. NXT Women’s Championship #1 Contender Battle Royal The match came down to Ruby Riot, Nikki Cross, and Ember Moon. As all 3 were down, Asuka hit the ring and beat up all 3. She then said “No one is ready for Asuka” and left. William Regal then came out and said since Asuka ruined the match, she would have to face all 3 of the remaining participants in a fatal 4-way for her NXT championship at NXT Takeover: Chicago. Winner: Riot, Cross, and Ember Moon will all face Asuka in a fatal 4-way
