Eric Bischoff Thinks AEW Using Bash At The Beach Theme Is A Bad Choice

Eric Bischoff has sounded off on AEW securing the rights to the Bash at the Beach trademark and using it for a special episode of their weekly television show on TNT, Dynamite.

During the latest episode of After 83 Weeks with Christy Olson, Bischoff was asked what his thoughts are on AEW using the Bash at the Beach theme.

“I have mixed emotions about it. I kind of understand it, but I also think it’s a bad choice. AEW…needs to find their own vision. They need to become their own brand. They need to become their own entity. They need to find the way that they’re really going to become the alternative. The more often they go back and kind of try to recreate the success of WCW, and align themselves with WCW’s success, I think they’re missing the mark.”

All Elite Wrestling has already announced that they will air the January 15th episode of AEW Dynamite live on TNT with a special Bash At The Beach theme from Miami, Florida at the Watsco Center at the University of Miami.

WCW used the theme for pay-per-view events from 1994-2000 that was mostly held in Florida outside of two years.

Bischoff recently defined what his role was as executive director of SmackDown during his latest tenure with WWE. For more on that, check it out here.

Tony Khan Shares How AEW Secured Bash At The Beach Trademark

AEW President Tony Khan made an appearance on the WINCLY podcast where he discussed a wide range of topics including the cool announcement made earlier this week about AEW using the Bash at the Beach trademark for an upcoming episode of AEW Dynamite.

In this interview, Khan noted how it was AEW executive Cody Rhodes who was able to secure the trademark among other trademarks.

“Cody went on a trademark binge one night and he texted me, ‘Conrad and I were up all night trademarking stuff.’ One of the things that came out of it was Bash at the Beach. So, when he said that we thought of a way to use it… and the unique idea was to go to Miami in January,” said Khan.

AEW will air the January 15th episode of AEW Dynamite live on TNT with a special Bash At The Beach theme from Miami, Florida at the Watsco Center at the University of Miami.

As part of the nine-day experience for superfans, AEW will tape the Tuesday, January 21st episode onboard the Jericho Cruise and the show will air the following night, January 22nd on TNT.

Khan mentioned how the promotion was able to get the trademark, which was the original rights to the trademark had lapsed. He brought up how MLW did the same thing with the WarGames trademark before they sold it back to WWE.

Khan added that Daytona Beach is a great market for AEW and he looks forward to getting down there soon.

AEW Bash At The Beach Announced For Jan. 15th Dynamite (Miami, FL)

All Elite Wrestling is reviving Bash at the Beach.

The event will take place as part of a special edition of AEW Dynamite on Wednesday, January 15th from Miami, FL at the University of Miami’s Watsco Center.

Longtime fans know that Bash at the Beach was an annual WCW pay-per-view. The event ran from 1994-2000.

AEW Executive Vice President Cody Rhodes trademarked the name, “Bash at the Beach” last year. It will be interesting to see if AEW uses a special beach-themed production setup for this event.

Cody also has the trademark for another WCW name, “The Match Beyond.” This phrase was used as the tag line for the popular WarGames match his father created. Cody recently referenced ‘a match beyond’ on AEW programming, another indication that we’ll be seeing AEW’s version of a WarGames match in the months ahead.

Tickets for AEW Bash at the Beach go on sale this Friday morning at AEWTix.com.
