Titus O’Neil Says There’s A “Tag-Team Revolution” In WWE Right Now

WWE Superstar Titus O’Neil of The Prime Time Players recently spoke with NZPWI to promote next week’s edition of WWE RAW. Below are some of the highlights from the interview.

On if there’s also a tag team revolution in WWE: “Yes, the tag team division is definitely loaded with a lot of talented teams, and a lot of talented individuals as well because sometimes we do have singles matches with the partner being out there. It’s a great time for the tag team division with The Dudley Boyz coming back – one of the most historically successful WWE tag teams in history, if not the most successful if you’re going by title reigns alone. It definitely gives a kick-start to a new season and a new era to the tag team division and hopefully we can continue to be a big fixture in that push for great tag team wrestling in WWE.”

On Batista getting him into wrestling: “Literally, I was driving down to South Tampa one day, picking up some dress shoes, and across the street was FCW. Since I was down there I called Dave [Batista] and said, ‘Hey, is this the place you were saying they practice at?’ and he said, ‘Yeah’ and I said, ‘Well I might go and poke my head in there and try to see what it’s about.’ I did, and two weeks later I was signed and learning to be a WWE Superstar.”

On a match he had with Rey Mysterio and why it’s one of his favorites: “I had the match with Rey Mysterio on an episode of SmackDown. It made it one of my favourite matches because, number one, I’ve always been a big fan of Rey Mysterio. It was a great learning experience for me. Rey was extremely, extremely professional with me. He guided me through, suggested things, let me do things with him that… it was just a really cool experience, a great learning experience from—I feel—one of the greatest performers of all time in WWE history.”

Batista Lands Role In Bruce Willis Movie, Update On Cameron

– Former WWE Superstar Dave Bautista has signed on to star in “Marauders” with Bruce Willis and Christopher Meloni. The film is an action-thriller is directed by Steven C. Miller. The synopsis reads:

“An FBI agent on the trail of bank robbers who give the stolen money to charity. During the investigation, the agent discovers the trail of secrets that the owner of a bank, played by Willis, has protected.”

The film will be released through Lionsgate Premiere and filming begins later this month in Ohio.

– WWE Diva Cameron has been off WWE TV in recent months because she is working on her music career. She released a music video earlier this year, which WWE promoted on their official YouTube channel.

She has been doing  personal appearances unrelated to WWE and she will be relaunching her website soon. She is also working on a clothing line for adults and kids called #WrongNumber, which promotes anti-bullying.

During a recent interview, she stated that she still hopes to win the Divas Championship one day, so we probably haven’t seen the last of her in WWE.

Jim Ross On Who Will Replace John Cena, Hogan/WWE Situation, Orton & Batista

WWE Hall Of Famer Jim Ross recently updated the Q&A of his official website, answering questions from fans on a number of pro wrestling related topics. Below are some of the highlights.

On wrestlers using the “Crippler Crossface” and if it is an homage to Chris Benoit: “I don’t think a homage is even in the equation. It’s an easy hold to apply and an easy hold to take. It is established and so it is utilized and has zero to do with Chris in my opinion. I agree that Chris was a great, technical wrestler.”

On whether or not Randy Orton & Batista would have been as big without Evolution: “I think that Orton and Batista would have both evolved into being stars without Evolution but being in Evolution greatly quickened their rise to the top. Not sure who I would put in an Evolution like faction today as there are not many veteran legends working full time schedules these days.”

On who will replace John Cena as the next top guy and when it will happen: “Someone will eventually replace Cena as the top dog in WWE but it won’t be any time soon from what I see. Lesnar’s the man when he’s there but Cena is there all he time so Cena is the #1 talent in WWE based on that. Who becomes the top draw depends on many variables that I cannot address and neither can anyone else. Only time will tell but the spot is going to be wide open and who steps up to take it remains to be seen.”

On how he prepares for his podcast interviews: “I generally prepare a day or two depending on the guest and I often times ask my Twitter followers if they have any questions that they want me to address with the guest. My interview style is laid back and casual and I try to be more conversational than not.”

On WWE removing Hulk Hogan from the Hall Of Fame and if they will ever work together again: “I’m uncomfortable with removing people from the Hall of Fame but I understand not promoting them if the situations warrants it in the future. I’d guess that WWE and Hulk will do business again some day as time heals many wounds. It’s a matter that I can’t affect so I don’t worry about it whatsoever. Why worry about things that one cannot affect? I also don’t understand multiple inductees.”

Batista Takes Another Dig At WWE Creative

Former WWE Superstar Batista continues to be very outspoken about WWE’s booking. On Sunday afternoon prior to SummerSlam, the parody @WWECreative_ish Twitter account wrote that they’re afraid WWE will team The Hawk Shemus with The Animal Batista to form a new incarnation of the Legion of Doom. Batista responded:

https://twitter.com/DaveBautista/status/635593144340492288

He’s likely referring to the incident from October 2013 when Stephanie McMahon slapped Big Show and Kane in the face during the early days of the Authority storyline. Back in April, Batista did an interview saying he’d be open to returning to WWE – but would only want to work live events, since WWE’s writers “aren’t great.”

Batista has been keeping busy in Hollywood. After a very well received performance in Guardians of the Galaxy, he’s set to appear in L.A. Slasher, James Bond Spectre, Bus 657 with Robert De Niro, Kickboxer: Vengeance, Warrior’s Gate and Guardians 2.

Batista Takes Shot At WWE Creative Over How Titus O’Neil Is Being Used

As announced on Friday, Titus O’Neil has been named Celebrity Dad of the Year in 2015 MEGA Dads Awards.

Batista, who O’Neil has credited with influencing him to try out for WWE in the late 2000s—he was immediately signed—congratulated him on the honor via Twitter.

Batista immediately followed-up the message with a swipe at WWE’s creative team.

He wrote, “WWE: “@TitusONeilWWE you’re everything a WWE star should be! Get out there and represent our company!! ” Titus: “Then why don’t you give me a push?’ WWE: “Sorry there’s nothing for you creatively” #sameoldbullshit.”

Batista has long felt that O’Neil is underutilized by WWE. “The Animal” said last August during an interview promoting Guardians of the Galaxy that he would like to work with him when he returns to WWE.

“I also have a really close friend, Thaddeus Bullard, who is Titus O’Neil and he’s actually a really close friend. I think there is a lot that remains to be seen from him and I don’t think they’re doing him justice, they aren’t really using him to his full ability and I’d love to be that guy that kind of brings him up to the next level, so if I could accomplish that, that would be great,” said Batista.

Video: Batista Featured In James Bond Car Chase

Former WWE Superstar Batista is featured in the latest video preview for the upcoming James Bond film, Spectre. The car chase scene takes place in Rome and features Bond’s (Daniel Craig) Aston Martin DB10 going up against a Jaguar C-X75 driven by Mr. Hinx (Batista).

Spectre premieres later this year on November 6th, 2015.

Batista Talks About Returning To WWE, Says WWE’s Writers “Aren’t Great”

Former WWE Superstar Batista attended the recent Avengers: Age of Ultron Premiere in London and spoke to Cassam Looch from HeyUGuys about James Bond: Spectre, Guardians of the Galaxy 2 and if we’ll ever see him in a WWE ring again.

Batista said he constantly gets asked about returning to WWE and is open to the idea. He loves wrestling. He spoke to Chris Jericho, who only works non-televised live events.

Batista said that option is appealing to him, since you’re locked into the scripts of WWE writers on TV, which he thinks “aren’t great” these days. He doesn’t want to be locked in and just wants to entertain the fans, so he might try to go that path.

WWE Talent Upset With Fans For Reigns Losing At WrestleMania

It was reported last week that almost no one knew that Seth Rollins was going to be cashing in his Money In The Bank briefcase and winning the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 31 until half-way through the show, however that is not the case.

Brock Lesnar knew about Rollins cashing in prior to signing his new WWE contract and because he, Paul Heyman and Roman Reigns were working closely together during the build-up of the match, the belief is Reigns knew a few days in advance as well.

Regarding Reigns not winning the title, which was the original plan for WrestleMania, many WWE talents have been really defensive of Reigns and there has even been some bitterness towards the vocal fans that ultimately forced the change in plans. Even though in WWE who aren’t knocking the vocal fans are said to be very defensive of Reigns.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. the internal reaction to Reigns losing this year is said to be nearly the complete opposite of the way talents reacted to Batista last year, as he went through a similar situation with the vocal fans changing plans for WrestleMania XXX, which was suppped to end with “The Animal” winning the title.

The feeling regarding Reigns is that the company spent a year building him and grooming him to be the next top guy, and then the vocal fans put his big climax in jeopardy, ultimately costing him the title and what would have been the most important moment of his career.

Update On Brock Lesnar Blading Rumor, Bay Area Wants To Bring WrestleMania Back

– Regarding speculation that Brock Lesnar did a “blade job” at WrestleMania 31, we noted that WWE sent out a statement denying it. Additionally, several sources within WWE claim Vince McMahon did not sign off on it and that it simply didn’t happen. The last person in WWE to be caught blading was Batista, and he was fined $100,000.

– Santa Clara and San Jose city officials are said to be very happy with how everything went with WrestleMania 31. While WrestleMania likely won’t be back in that area for quite a while, city officials have been discussing the possibility of putting up a bid that nobody else can match to bring WrestleMania back in around eight years or so.

Why Barrett Stopped Delivering Bad News, Tough Enough Update, Guardians 2

– Former WWE Intercontinental champion Bad News Barrett was interviewed by Sky Sports last week to promote WrestleMania 31 and was asked why he stopped delivering “Bad News” on WWE TV. Barrett revealed that WWE officials squashed the segments because fans were joining in on the catch phrase and cheering him.

This is a similar situation to WWE making Cesaro stop doing his big swing, since he’s also a heel and fans were cheering the move. (Thanks to SEScoops reader Undertaker316).

– WWE announced on SmackDown that Ziggler would not be wrestling because he was “unable to compete.” Ziggler is not injured and this was just part of storylines, selling the beatdown from Sheamus on RAW.

– Director James Gunn revealed last week that he has finished writing for the Guardians of the Galaxy 2 movie, which is set to be released May 5th, 2017. Batista will be reprising his role as Drax the Destroyer.

– Goldust teased on Twitter that he’s interested in being a coach for the upcoming season of Tough Enough. He also noted that he’ll be facing Stardust on WWE’s upcoming WrestleMania Revenge tour of Europe.

WrestleMania XXI-XXX: The Top 10 Matches From The Final Decade

With WrestleMania only a few days away, it’s time for our final look at the greatest matches in the event’s history. The final decade would be a transitional period in many ways. Perhaps most importantly, the content would change dramatically after the company changed its events to PG rating following several controversies.

Additionally, old stars like Steve Austin and The Rock would largely ride off into the sunset and hand the reins to a new generation led by Randy Orton, Daniel Bryan, and of course, John Cena. Well, here we go, the top ten matches of the final decade of WrestleMania. As always, full videos of each match are included so you can relive the contest in its entirety. Enjoy!

10. Money in the Bank (WrestleMania 21)

This match would change the WWE pretty dramatically and has become a staple in the current era, so much that it now has its own pay-per-view. Supposedly developed by Chris Jericho, the match saw a title contract hanging above the ring in a briefcase, with the winner being able to cash it in at any time over the next year for a guaranteed title shot. Edge would win this first Money in the Bank contest that was filled with memorable spots, and later cash it in and become the “Ultimate Opportunist” in a move that would be mirrored by many later.

9. CM Punk vs. Chris Jericho (WrestleMania XXVIII)

http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x150cxk_cm-punk-vs-chris-jericho-wwe-championship-match-wrestlemania-xxviii_sport

All of the hype heading into WrestleMania 28 was around the “Once in a Lifetime” match between John Cena and The Rock. However, many feel that the best match of the night was actually the WWE Championship match with CM Punk and Chris Jericho. Following a lengthy hiatus, Jericho would return as a heel and challenge Punk for the title. It was a pure wrestling match and a treat for fans, with Punk eventually countering the Wall of Jericho into the Anaconda Vice for the win. This match would also be important because it was one of the factors that would lead to Punk departing from the company, as his dream was to headline a WrestleMania but never received that opportunity.

8. John Cena vs. Shawn Michaels (WrestleMania 23)

John Cena was the new top dog in the company by the time Shawn Michaels challenged for the title at WrestleMania 23. During the contest, Michaels was relentless in his pursuit of the title, executing a piledriver onto the steel stairs at one point, while also trying to hit his patented Sweet Chin Music several time. In the end, he would fall to the leader of the Cenation after being forced to tap out to the STF. Overall, it was a solid match that helped Cena elevated himself into the role as the face of this era.

7. The Rock vs. John Cena (WrestleMania XXVIII)

http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2edri7_wr-match-of-the-day-the-rock-vs-john-cena-wrestlemania-28_sport

This was one of the most hyped matches in the history of the WWE, as the build began about a year prior to the event. With Rock coming back from his successful Hollywood career and John Cena being by far the company’s biggest moneymaker, the outcome was really a toss-up. Both superstars kicked out of multiple finishers, and it eventually ended with Cena going down after failing to hit the People’s Elbow and receiving a Rock Bottom. It may not have been “Once in a Lifetime,” but it was definitely one hell of a match.

6. Shawn Michaels vs. Vince McMahon (WrestleMania 22)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y5KI8DPq_Vc

Anytime Mr. McMahon is involved in a match, one can expect some shenanigans, and this one was no exception. After being forcefully inducted into the infamous “Kiss My Ass” Club, Michaels wanted revenge and he got his chance in a No Holds Barred match against the boss. This featured some brutal action that truly felt personal. Michaels would eventually win after hitting an impressive spot that would see him drive an elbow through McMahon, a table, and even a trash can – all while driving from the top of a ladder.

WWE On Legends Possibly Returning For WrestleMania Match, Reigns’ WM31 Workout Video

– As reported earlier this week, WWE is looking at bringing some legends back for a match at next year’s WrestleMania 32 pay-per-view to help fill Cowboys Stadium and set the all-time attendance record. Today, WWE’s official website is running a poll asking fans which legend they would like to see have one more match at WrestleMania. The options are Steve Austin, Shawn Michaels, Bill Goldberg, The Rock, Hulk Hogan, Batista, Kurt Angle, Jeff Hardy, Vince McMahon, Lita, Trish Stratus or The Dudley Boyz.

With over 2,000 votes cast as of this writing, Stone Cold is leading the pack with 30 percent of the vote. Trailing Austin are Goldberg (21%), Shawn Michaels (13%) and Kurt Angle and Jeff Hardy, both of whom have eight percent of the votes. You can vote on the poll at WWE.com.

She spoke about a number of topics, including her WWE run, what she’s doing these days and more. She also commented on the long standing rumors that she cheated on her ex-boyfriend, Lucha Underground star, with Batista.

Melina and Mundo dated on-and-off for 11 years and revealed that the rumors of her cheating on him with Batista ultimately led to them splitting up. Melina flat out denied the rumor and said she is still asked about it 10 years later. She added that Batista is a great friend and a real life hero.

– As noted on Saturday night, current WWE World Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar, who is in the middle of a serious negotiating issue with WWE, was in attendance at the UFC 184 pay-per-view in Los Angeles, California. While Paul Heyman didn’t directly comment about Lesnar attending the show last night, he did re-tweet a fan who commented about him being there, and also re-tweeted a MMA journalist who posted about Lesnar wearing a “sweet suit” at the show. WWE’s website states that filmmakers were looking for a strong and imposing person to fill the role of the main villain in the story of the movie, which was originally made famous by Clancy Brown.

Speaking of Batista, he is featured in a new behind-the-scenes clip of the upcoming James Bond film “Spectre,” which you can view above. As noted in the past, Batista will be playing “Mr. Hinx,” the top villain in the movie.

One Year Ago: The 2014 WWE Royal Rumble

A lot can change over the course of a year, especially in the WWE. At last year’s Royal Rumble, Batista earned the opportunity to headline WrestleMania, going from fan favorite to Bootista in a matter of moments.

It will be Daniel Bryan, Roman Reigns, and a whole slew of others hoping to earn that opportunity this time around, as the card for this Sunday’s Royal Rumble appears to be officially set. Here is a look at the superstars who have taken a leap forward over the past year, as well as those who have taken a step backward.

Progression

1. The Shield

the-shield

Nobody has progressed over the past year more than the three men who formerly comprised The Shield. Roman Reigns set the record for the most eliminations at last year’s Rumble, although he was never really seen as a serious threat to win it all. This time around, he’s the odds-on favorite to win the Rumble and headline WrestleMania.

Reigns eliminated his former partners at last year’s event as a means to tease tension between the former Hounds of Justice. Both of those men have moved onto better things. Seth Rollins will be challenging for the title this time around, and Ambrose is seen as one of the most credible entrants in the Royal Rumble match. Believe that.

2. Brock Lesnar

lesnar-gold

Lesnar destroyed Big Show’s back at last year’s Rumble, walloping him with a chair about 50 times in a match that lasted two minutes. His character’s direction was unclear at the time, having engaged in various feuds in 2013 that didn’t really go anywhere, largely due to Lesnar’s limited schedule.

A few accomplishments have been added to his resume since last time around. Most importantly, he apparently broke some sort of WrestleMania undefeated streak that fans held dear to their hearts. Cena and Rollins will attempt to slay the Beast this year, as he comes in as WWE World Heavyweight Champion and undisputed top dog in the company.

Ranking Every 2014 Pay-Per-View (Part 2/2)

As promised, here are the top pay-per-view events from 2014.

8. NXT Takeover

nxt-takeover-poster-ses-1

This event started off sluggish but certainly ended with a string of entertaining matches. In particular, the match between Tyler Breeze and Sami Zayn featured solid in-ring work and highlighted why both of these guys could succeed if given the opportunity.

The real treat during this pay-per-view, however, was the final two matches of the evening. The match between Charlotte and Natalya for the vacant NXT Women’s Championship was probably the most technically sound women’s match I’ve ever seen, and the main event between Neville and Tyson Kidd was the perfect way to end the show. In my opinion, this was the event that made fans realize NXT is more than simply a developmental league for the main roster.

Worst Match: Adam Rose vs. Camacho

Best Match: Charlotte vs. Natalya

7. Payback

payback

There was some worry heading into this one, largely due to the absence of the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. The event would carry on just fine without the title, however. It started off strong with a bruising contest between Sheamus and Cesaro.

From there, the Last Man Standing match was entertaining, even if it would have been nice to see Wyatt pick up the victory. With that said, this pay-per-view is all about the main event. It was an awesome 30-minute affair that featured memorable spots, brutal action, and a decisive Shield victory. This was also important because it would set up Seth Rollins’ heel turn the next night on Raw.

Worst Match: Bo Dallas vs. Kofi Kingston

Best Match: The Shield vs. Evolution

Top Five Factions In The History Of Pro Wrestling

A lot of the factors in pro wrestling are subjective. Some people enjoy this, some people enjoy that. Some fans prefer a better in-ring technician, some like a strong promo guy and others enjoy a great character. No one is wrong, because it’s all personal preference.

Generally speaking, when an editorial features a list, it’s “the best of” or “the worst of.” Today, we are going to switch gears a bit.

In keeping with the subjective theme, today we are going to look at who I personally consider to be the five best factions in the history of the business. Not the five best, my five favorite. And I’ll explain why, starting with …

#5. The Varsity Club

Many of the current generation of wrestling fans may have never even heard of The Varsity Club. Growing up, they were one of my favorite wrestling stables.

The original group consisted of Kevin Sullivan, Mike Rotunda and Rick Steiner, all of which wore their amateur wrestling letterman jackets. The guys were among the most legitimate tough guys in the business at the time, and the group had the perception of being the baddest son of a bitches on the planet.

As is the case with any wrestling stable, as time went on the group was watered down. Members such as “Dr. Death” Steve Williams and “Dangerous” Dan Spivey were added to the mix, and before too long, the group ceased to exist. While they were around though, in my opinion, they were pretty damn cool.

#4. The Fabulous Freebirds

As far as I’m concerned any writer who doesn’t include The Fabulous Freebirds on their “top stables” or “top factions” lists should have their head examined. The Freebirds were as cool as it got when I was a youngster.

The group was led by Michael “P.S.” Hayes, a current WWE creative team member who is credited with introducing theme music to the ring-walk portion of the professional wrestling presentation. The group consisted of Hayes, Terry “Bam Bam” Gordy and Buddy Roberts. Roberts was considered a great in-ring technician, and prior to the Birds, had a lengthy career worthy of Hall Of Fame status. In fact, Roberts was part of the original “Hollywood Blondes” tag-team, a name that was later used for the team of “Stunning” Steve Austin and “Flyin'” Brian Pillman. Gordy was a legend in Japan and portrayed the “enforcer” role in the group. Hayes was a rock star and easily one of the most charismatic wrestlers of his time, if not of all-time.

Later on, Hayes and Jimmy “Jam” Garvin would bring back The Fabulous Freebirds as a straight tag-team act. How this group has yet to receive an induction into the WWE Hall Of Fame confuses me to this very day.

#3. D-Generation X

I’m of the belief that there is not a fan of North American professional wrestling that has not heard of D-Generation X. That would mean they did their jobs and left a lasting legacy in the business.

D-X consisted of Shawn Michaels, Triple H, Chyna and Rick Rude. When the group officially formed, you could make the argument that along with “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, they officially ushered in the infamous “Attitude Era” in WWE. They did things for shock value at a time when Howard Stern, The Jerry Springer Show and many other shock-television style shows reigned supreme. It was a natural fit, and the group really cemented Triple H as a main event performer in WWE.

Later on, as is the case with every faction or stable in history, an attempt was made to get the gang back together, only this time — it worked. You could argue that the second version of D-X was actually more successful than the first. The second group featured Triple H as the leader instead of Michaels, and his group consisted of Chyna, Sean “X-Pac” Waltman, “Bad Ass” Billy Gunn and “The Road Dogg” Jesse James. Anyone who saw WWE RAW the night that D-X “invaded” WCW will never forget that moment. It was amazing entertainment and really symbolized the “Monday Night War” going on at the time between WWE and WCW.

D-X was brought back again in the 2000s as a straight tag-team act that featured the two original members — Triple H and Shawn Michaels. Personally, I didn’t enjoy that run nearly as much as their first run, but it was still a cool thing to see the two back together having fun.
