Jerry Lawler Comments on “Hard to Watch” Alexa Bliss Segment on RAW

This past Monday on RAW, Alexa Bliss delivered an angle that wasn’t received well by the WWE Universe as she attempted to host a “This Is Your Life” segment for Bayley.

The angle featured some people from Bayley’s past, such as her ex-boyfriend and former best friend who ended up making out in the end. The crowd wasn’t really into it and the WWE was so ashamed with the segment that virtually all references to the segment were removed from their YouTube page, with the exception of Bliss’ attack on Bayley following the event:

WWE Hall Of Famer Jerry “The King” Lawler took to his podcast, Dinner With The King, to comment on the angle and stated that the WWE needs to “move on” from it:

“Sometimes things happen that just don’t turn out like you envision it. I’m sure that’s exactly what happened there. Here’s the other thing: it’s live T.V. That’s a double-edged sword, believe me. When something doesn’t turn out the way you planned it, there’s nothing you can do about it. It’s there. It was live and everybody saw it. That was just one of those cases. You just gotta move on.”

Lawler also referenced what RAW commentator Booker T said during the ordeal, as his fellow Hall Of Famer said it was “hard to watch”:

“You know what, that could have well have been a Vince [McMahon] line. I’m not sure, because I wasn’t there. But either way, that was the right thing to say. It was probably conveying the thoughts of everybody watching it.”

Women’s Tag Team Match Announced For Tonight’s Raw

One night after losing the Raw women’s championship in her hometown, Bayley will team up with Sasha Banks to take on Nia Jax, the newly crowned champion, Alexa Bliss.

The match was announced earlier today by a guy Chris Jericho thinks is Tom Phillips:

Raw Women’s Division

Raw’s women’s division grew deeper after the Superstar Shakeup. It now consists of: Alexa Bliss (c), Bayley, Sasha Banks, Nia Jax, Mickie James, Emma, Dana Brooke and Alicia Fox. On the roster but currently inactive: Summer Rae, Paige (might not return).

Despite the increased roster size, the division still only had 1 match on the PPV last night.

Tonight’s episode of Raw takes place inside the Golden 1 Centre in Sacramento, California.

Alexa Bliss Makes History With RAW Women’s Championship Win At Payback

Alexa Bliss made history at last night’s WWE Payback pay-per-view when she defeated hometown star Bayley for the RAW Women’s Championship. Bliss is now the first to hold both the SmackDown Women’s Championship (twice) and the RAW Women’s Championship.

It’s an impressive feat for Bliss, who was one of seven NXT Superstars drafted to the main roster last July. Of that group, a strong case could be made that Bliss has had the most success in WWE.

After her heartbreaking loss at Payback, Bayley was interviewed backstage and said it doesn’t matter that she dropped the title in front of her hometown crowd. The symbol of her long journey and her hard work now sits around the waist of Alexa Bliss, whom Bayley says has no respect for anybody. With a dejected tone, Bayley admitted, “I’m not happy and it sucks.”

Here’s a look at Alexa Bliss’ first photo shoot with the RAW Women’s Championship.

On the heels of her historic title win, Alexa Bliss will be Chris Jericho’s guest next week on the Talk is Jericho podcast.

Bayley Talks About The State Of WWE’s Women’s Revolution, Dusty’s Influence On Her Career, More

This Sunday, Bayley defends the RAW Women’s Championship against Alexa Bliss at WWE Payback. Ahead of her title defense, Bayley appeared on The Other Guys Podcast to discuss her WrestleMania experience, her and Sasha Banks making history in NXT, the state of WWE’s Women’s Revolution and more. Here are some highlights of what she said about:

WWE Payback Taking Place in her Hometown:

“I’m really excited because I have watched WWE live events and Raw and Smackdown inside the arena where we are wrestling on Sunday. I kind of just grew up there, and it’s going to be so cool to be able to walk down the ramp and now have my family and friends watch me as the champion.”

Making History With Sasha Banks in NXT:

“We were both really emotional during all of it. That Brooklyn match won match of the year actually for NXT, and it was voted on by the fans so that was a huge accomplishment, and we still get questions about that match…The other day we even said it’s so crazy that we had that match, and that it had such an impact that years from now we can look back and just be proud of that one match if not anything else.”

The State of WWE’s Women’s Revolution:

“We are kind of still building each other on both Raw and Smackdown, but it’s definitely taken huge leaps and bounds where Sasha and Charlotte were able to main event PPVs like Hell In A Cell and first ever matches and do all this stuff…It’s taken huge steps, but obviously we all want the number one goal to be main eventing Wrestlemania. We are still working towards that, there’s always more work to be done, but I am so happy and proud to see how far it’s come.

Dusty Rhodes’ Influence on Her Career:

“When I first got to FCW…I was going nowhere. I had no personality, no character. He put me in extra promo classes with like 5 other people, and this was aside from the promo class that we already had to do because he knew I needed work…I would cry in front of the camera, but he would calm me down, and just say talk from your heart, talk from your heart, be who you are, and I didn’t think that was good enough, but he told me it was. So I kept going with who I was, and it kind of formed into what it is now…He just really found that something special inside you that you didn’t even knew that you had.”

Bayley Discusses WrestleMania 33, Her Recent Snickers Commercial

Bayley recently had an interview with Fox Sports and discussed her recent Snickers commercial and Wrestlemania 33 taking place in Orlando.

Bayley on her Snickers commercial:

“I had to mess it up a few times. Dude, it was so fun. They had a script for me, and as it was going on they were like ‘oh it would be cool if you did this,’ or ‘it would be cool if you do this!’ And I would sometimes not say the right line and they’d be like ’it’s cool, let’s try that one!’ Yeah, I had to mess up the room a few times. I threw so many cups at the assistant. We were using red cups before and they were like ‘nah, those don’t fly as good.’ I’m actually kind of sad because at the end we had the shot of me kicking the table… and we actually shot one where I was dropping an elbow onto the couch and I was kind of hoping they’d keep that. one, but it was so much fun.”

Wrestlemania 33 in Orlando:

“Totally, it’s considered a home to me. We really just started there. We had a million matches there in Orlando, trained for hours at the Performance Center every single day. And I know a lot of the Orlando fans are going to be there – the ones who were there when nobody else was when we weren’t traveling out to all these states and to different countries and everything. They were always there to support us. So it’s nice to bring all of WWE there and be able to experience that with them. Hoping to see a bunch of them at Axxess.”

Bayley’s Main Roster Match Statistics

Bayley’s win over Charlotte last night at Fastlane was significant for a few reasons. It guarantees that Bayley will be part of the Raw women’s title match at WrestleMania, and it also ends Charlotte’s PPV winning streak.

Bayley Captures RAW Women’s Championship (Video)

Bayley defeated Charlotte in the main event of Monday’s RAW from Las Vegas to capture the RAW Women’s Championship. This marks her first main roster title reign and the 8th title reign for the RAW Women’s Championship, which was introduced last year at WrestleMania.

Bayley is a former NXT Wonen’s Champion and made her main roster debut last summer. Based on this victory, it appears she’s going to have a big role at WrestleMania 33. You can be sure that Charlotte will expect a rematch sooner than later, with Sasha Banks and Nia Jax also in the title picture.

Discussion: Do you think it was the right time for Bayley to win the RAW Women’s Championship, or should WWE have built this up longer, with her coming up short many times before finally reaching the top of the mountain?

Charlotte is already focused on getting her title back. Charlotte tweeted this message after losing the championship:

WWE posted this video of Bayley backstage after her big win:

Sasha Banks Needs To Turn Heel (Editorial)

There is so much content packed into a three hour episode of Monday Night Raw, sometimes it takes a bit for things to register. Last night, Nia Jax demolished Sasha Banks for the second night in a row. The crowd didn’t care. They didn’t really boo when Nia Jax went after Sasha’s injured knee. There was mass confusion in this match because the timekeeper rang the bell too early and the referee had called for the bell yet. Moving past that, the goal of this segment was clearly to get heat on Nia Jax and make the WWE Universe dislike her. Sure, there may have been a smattering of boos but I think this segment was a huge failure. It didn’t help anyone. The WWE has tried to get people invested in this storyline but it just hasn’t worked. When they aired that video of Nia Jax attacking Sasha Banks while she was getting evaluated, did you care? I know I didn’t.

That was two weeks ago and here we are doing the same thing. Sasha Banks is playing up an injury and Nia Jax is taking advantage of it. Bayley begged Sasha to not fight Nia Jax last night on Raw. Sasha dismissed Bayley and ignored her suggestion. She wound up getting her ass kicked by Nia Jax for the second night in a row. After the match, Bayley helped Sasha Banks to the trainer’s room. The WWE clearly laid the groundwork for something between Bayley and Sasha Banks last night. It just got lost in the shuffle.

Nia Jax has been a failure to this point. On the main roster, she has not connected at all. Say what you want about Charlotte, at least she generates a reaction. I enjoy Charlotte’s work as a heel and I think she is terrific at cutting promos that piss people off. Her feud/storyline with Bayley has been very lame so far but that is another rant for another day. Nia Jax doesn’t matter right now. That is because she was off TV way too long and to be honest, she hasn’t had a good match on the main roster. Everything she has been a part of since joining Raw has been forgettable.

This article was supposed to be about Sasha Banks, so why did I bring up Nia Jax? I think Sasha Banks is 10x the heel that Nia Jax is. She is just playing the role of a face right now and it is not working. If it was working, people would have cared that Nia Jax was targeting her injured knee. Nobody cared. Nia Jax just isn’t connecting with the WWE Universe whatsoever and the audience has completely lost interest in Sasha Banks.

Sasha Banks needs to turn heel. If Bayley defeats Charlotte and wins the Raw Women’s Championship, she will need someone to feud with. I’m not sure if Nia Jax is the answer anymore. That hasn’t exactly panned out the way I thought it would. Banks had a particular tone with Bayley and said that “unlike some people, I am not okay with coming up short.” I took that as a direct jab at Bayley for having a smile on her face the night after losing a match for the Raw Women’s Championship against Charlotte. We’ll see what happens but I think it is time to turn Sasha Banks heel. The audience simply does not care about her right now and they do not care about Nia Jax either. Hopefully this interaction with Bayley last night is a sign of things to come for Sasha Banks.

Backstage News On Bayley’s Chase For The RAW Women’s Championship

The current plan for WrestleMania 33 has Bayley winning the RAW Women’s Championship from Charlotte, according to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio. The build for the big title change is supposed to mirror Daniel Bryan’s storyline for WrestleMania 33. Bayley Interview: Frustration In NXT, Sasha & Charlotte’s HIAC Match, More

The following are highlights from Bayley’s recent appearance on the Card Subject To Change podcast:

Getting Frustrated In NXT Before Getting Called Up: “There were times yes, but I think I was very lucky to just be there. Even when Sasha,Charlotte and Becky were call to WWE I spent another year there, but I think looking back now that’s the year where I learnt the most.”

Her Reaction To Finally Getting Called Up: “It’s tough but it’s all worth it. It’s been a long road for me coming from NXT. I was in NXT for almost 4 years, and just getting to the WWE and now being able to travel with them and kind of have to make new friends, get hotel rooms, travel to different cities every single night. It’s very different and so much fun. All the hard work in NXT that prepared me for this has been worth so valuable.”

Sasha and Charlotte’s Hell in a Cell Match: “They exceeded all my expectations. I knew it was going to be amazing and scary and dangerous. They were going to do whatever it took to steal the show but I just didn’t expect to see the things that I saw.”

Her Relationship With Sasha: “It’s amazing. It’s really helpful. She’s been here for a year before me so she’s able to help me along, I know where to be, when to be where I have to be….She’s one of the few people that will be a friend after this.”

The Biggest Lesson She’s Learned From Wrestling: “I would say just to stay true to what I believe in and stay true to myself. That was something I learned from the very beginning when I first got to NXT. I had a long conversation with AJ Lee when I just felt a little bit lost…She told me just to be able to meet them half way. Obviously you have to do what they want but you also have to stay true to yourself and you have to feel comfortable doing what you’re doing.”
