On this week’s episode of Monday Night RAW, Women’s Royal Rumble winner Becky Lynch confirmed her WrestleMania intentions. She will be challenging RAW Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey at WrestleMania 35. Lynch interrupted Rousey and Bayley after their RAW Women’s Title bout. However, it looks like a big change could be coming to that match.
Rousey struggled in her promo early on, as the crowd was giving her a hard time. WWE sent Bayley out early to begin their match. Afterward, Lynch came out and went face-to-face with “The Rowdy One.” They jawed off at one another before the segment came to an end. Earlier today (Tues. January 29, 2019) Rousey took to Instagram and issued out a message to Lynch:
“One big difference between me and you @beckylynchwwe – everything you said last night was fantasy make believe. And every word out of my mouth was a fact. ”
Also on RAW this week, Lio Rush took shots at Universal Champion Brock Lesnar and Finn Balor, on behalf of his client, Intercontinental Champion Bobby Lashley. He followed up on Twitter by once again calling Lesnar and Balor out:
“Just so we’re clear…..Bobby > Brock on any given day. That little twerp Finn wouldn’t stand a chance in hell against #TheAlmighty@WWE@fightbobby”
Heyman responded by praising Rush, saying he has a huge future ahead of him. However, he also pointed out that he spelled Lashley’s moniker wrong:
“I like @WWE@itsLioRush. He has a huge future. Tremendous talent, super young, only going to get better and better and better. But if you’re going to call out @BrockLesnar on behalf of your client, at least spell your own client’s nickname correctly. IT’S ON YOUR SHIRT, LIO!”

After months of speculation, WWE has made the one match that fans have been waiting to see and that’s WWE RAW Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey taking on Becky Lynch in a one-on-one contest.
WWE made this official during Monday’s episode of RAW in Phoenix, AZ after Rousey had successfully retained her title over Bayley once issuing an open challenge. Following the contest, Lynch walked out where she made her selection known and then they exchanged words. Lynch earned this opportunity by winning the 2019 Women’s Royal Rumble Match.
This is the second time that WWE had planned to book this match. The then-SmackDown Women’s Champion was pulled from her scheduled champion vs. champion match against Rousey at Survivor Series in November. She suffered a broken nose and concussion during the RAW invasion angle after getting punched out by Nia Jax that saw Lynch suffer a “broken face” and concussion.
Her replacement would be Charlotte Flair who ended up facing Rousey in a non-title match at Survivor Series once Lynch picked Flair during an in-ring segment.
WrestleMania 35 is scheduled to take place on Sunday, April 7, 2019, in East Rutherford, NJ at MetLife Stadium. This event airs on pay-per-view (PPV) and WWE Network.
Becky Lynch has won this year’s women’s Royal Rumble match and is now on the road to WrestleMania 35, which is the biggest pay-per-view event of the year for the WWE.
As a result of beating out 29 other stars, she has earned the right to be in one of the main events of Mania and will have her choice to go after one of the top titles in the company whether that be the RAW Women’s Title, which is held by Ronda Rousey, who successfully retained the title over title contender Sasha Banks or WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion Asuka, who also retained her championship over Lynch on this show.
She beat the likes of Charlotte Flair, Nia Jax, Bayley, and plenty more Superstars at the WWE Royal Rumble pay-per-view event in Phoenix, Arizona. Here’s a list of the entry of superstars who competed in this fan favorite match:

Mickie James got Becky Lynch’s attention on Twitter recently. James took to social media to criticize Lynch referring to herself as “the Man”.
Awe… this whole #TheMan thing is so cute in the age of #womensempowerment Boo. I’m for 1 am proud to be #TheWOMAN because after all we’ve always been the dominant sex! Or have you forgotten that @BeckyLynchWWE hanging out w/your new bestie lil’ Richard. See you at the rumble!? https://t.co/6hiIxorsyG

Lynch responded by bringing up another time in James’ history when she was involved in headlines with a top-tier star in the company.
“Not the first time she’s come after the top star to further her career.”
Becky Lynch References Mickie James’ Past With John Cena
Mickie James opened up about her past with John Cena on an episode of Lillian Garcia’s podcast in 2017.
“We’re all adults, and you know obviously this business is what it is, and we’ve all had our share of relationships failed,” James said on Lillian Garcia’s podcast. “I think that being adults and being professionals… It’s such a tight-knit thing, that’s the reason why so many people in the industry fall in love in the first place, because you see each other every day, you hang out with each other, you don’t get a chance to… make any type of outside life.”
“We’re all grown adults and I would hope that, and I’m pretty sure that it’s going to be pretty awesome because I’m sure that I’m going to have to work with Nikki in the ring and I know that we could do some really amazing stuff.”
Becky Lynch will challenge Asuka for the Smackdown Women’s championship on Sunday from Chase Field in Phoenix. She recently took part in an interview with a local media outlet, AZ Central, to promote the upcoming Royal Rumble event.
During the course of the interview, Lynch revealed she is planning some “hijinks” for her match with Asuka.
“The first thing that goes into my mind is how I can plan some hijinks,” Lynch said when asked about Sunday’s PPV. “How can I take the show? I’m gonna take back that championship and make it the most talked about title in all of the WWE and the world.”
Becky Lynch on Royal Rumble Match With Asuka
Lynch was also asked about what she is enjoying the most about the fan support she receives.
“What I love so much is that they listen,” Lynch said on the WWE fanbase. “When I’m talking there’s silence in the arena and I really appreciate people’s respect. That’s what everybody wants, really. They want to be heard and feel that they’re worthwhile.”
Lynch was also asked about her trash-talking presence on social media.
“I think it’s been so instrumental in my rise and my voice,” she said. “On TV, I’m on 15 to 20 minutes if I’m lucky. When I’m online I can say my message constantly with interest whenever I want, whenever I feel like. It drives interest and I’m able to get my story across. If people know what I want and what I’m fighting for they can like it or hate it as long as they’re entertained.”
Following Tuesday’s SmackDown Live and 205 Live tapings, WWE Champion Daniel Bryan defended his title against AJ Styles in a dark match. Bryan wound up retaining his title over “The Phenomenal One” via disqualification. However, after the match, Bryan cut a heel promo on the Alabama crowd.
Bryan poked fun at their college football team for losing the National Championship game to Clemson in a blowout. Styles then came back and attacked Bryan before celebrating with a young fan. He then did an impersonation of WWE Hall Of Famer Stone Cold Steve Austin.
Styles asked the crowd if they want to see him hit Bryan with a Phenomenal Forearm, then give him a “Hell Yeah.”
After the crowd chanted “Hell Yeah” Styles hit Bryan with the elbow. He then mimicked Austin’s beer drinking celebration with water bottles.
Check out the video of AJ Styles paying homage to “Stone Cold” Steve Austin:
Tonight’s episodes of Smackdown and 205 Live will emanate from the Legacy Arena in Birmingham, AL. The Cruiserweight division will return to the WWE Network on Tuesday nights at 10 PM tonight.
Smackdown 1/15 Preview
Rey Mysterio vs Andrade “Cien” Almas
Excluding non-televised events, these two have met twice before. Almas pinned Mysterio in a tag match last week. Mysterio defeated Almas, however, on the November 6, 2018, edition of Smackdown from Manchester.
These two have a chance to steal the show as they go one-on-one again tonight.
Carmella vs Sonya Deville
Says the chick who got eliminated by her “day one” at #WWEEvolution. ?
Why don’t you put your hair up and square up with me this Tuesday on #SDLive? Unless you’re gonna be too embarrassed when you lose to the chick with the dance breaks.. ? https://t.co/sDEaUR7Qej
Deville is upset that Carmella was given a spot in the triple threat match to declare a new #1 contender for the Smackdown women’s title last week. These two then went back and forth on Twitter in the days leading up to tonight’s show.
How Vicious is the New Daniel Bryan?
Daniel Bryan has promised to show AJ Styles just how vicious he can be when they clash at the Rumble. He might decide to give him a sneak preview tonight, however. Bryan might also decide to bring up some environmentally destructive things the live audience does on a regular basis.
Asuka vs Becky Lynch Segment
Becky Lynch won a triple threat match last week to earn the right to challenge for the smack down women’s championship at the Royal Rumble this year. New champion, Asuka, is not about to back down, however. With two weeks left until the Rumble, Lynch, and Asuka will be in the same building tonight.
205 Live 1/15 Preview
Buddy Murphy Open Challenge (non-title)
Cruiserweight Champion Buddy Murphy plans to hold an Open Challenge tonight. His title won’t be on the line, however. Who will answer Murphy’s call?
Murphy will also have to worry about his upcoming title match at the Rumble against Akira Tozawa, Kalisto, and Hideo Itami.
Becky Lynch had an outstanding rivalry with Charlotte Flair in 2018. However, things got confusing when she chose Charlotte as her Survivor Series replacement to face Ronda Rousey and hugged the Queen while naming her.
The former Champion’s move made many wonder if it was the end of their rivalry, and during a recent interview with CBS Sports, Lynch cleared the air on it.
When asked why she hugged Charlotte Flair on the SmackDown episode before Survivor Series, Lynch said that she was concussed and didn’t know what she was doing.
Continuing on the topic, The Man set the record straight on her relationship with Flair, and said that she wouldn’t have hugged her in a million years if she was sober:
“I don’t know what I was doing; wouldn’t have ever hugged her in a million years in a sober state. I have to watch her try to be bootleg Becky at Survivor Series acting like she’s me, thinking she’s tough, thinking she’s edgy. That woman couldn’t have any edge if she turned into a Rubik’s cube.”
Apart from this, Becky also discussed her trash talk on social media saying that it’s where the fun is and if anyone is going to say anything about her, they should be prepared for her comeback. You can check out her full interview at this link.
We recently provided an update regarding WWE’s main event plans heading into Wrestlemania 35, which takes place April 7th from the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
Original plans would have seen Becky Lynch face off against “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey on The “grandest stage of them all,” most likely for the Raw Women’s championship. Important to note is that this would have been a one-on-one contest.
Since that time, WWE has reportedly chosen to go ahead with a triple-threat matchup instead. This will now see Becky Lynch, Ronda Rousey, and Charlotte Flair compete against each other, come April.
But if you’ve been hoping for that singles match between “The Man” and Rousey, you may be in luck.
According to Bryan Alvarez from Wrestling Observer Live, WWE apparently has plans in place to deliver this match, sooner rather than later.
“As of today, plans subject to change, the WrestleMania match is Ronda vs. Charlotte vs. Becky in a three-way,” Alvarez confirmed. “But for those of you that want your Ronda Rousey vs. Becky Lynch match, it is still penciled in to take place between now and WrestleMania.”
Besides the Royal Rumble, WWE still has two other events on the ‘Road To Wrestlemania.’ WWE Elimination Chamber takes place on February 17th in Houston, Texas. They also have their Fastlane event, which is scheduled for March 10th in Cleveland, Ohio.
What do you think? Would you prefer this match happened at Wrestlemania instead, or are you excited for the triple-threat?
“The Man” sat down with Fox News recently and discussed how her pre-WWE career path nearly led her to working as a stuntwoman on the History show, Vikings.
Becky Lynch On Working Stunts and Getting Back Into Wrestling
After wrestling around the world in her teens and early 20s, Lynch quit the business and returned to school.
“I left college and I got my acting degree, and I was looking for work,” Lynch said. “I handed in my resume and headshot to ‘Vikings’ because they were filming in Ireland.”
Lynch says that the show’s producers were looking for someone who could do stunts, and figured that given her wrestling background, she could be a fit.
“I’m like, ‘Yeah, I can do stunts. I’m a stuntwoman. That’s what I do’. Then I hung up the phone and I’m like, I have to figure out how to be a stuntwoman,” Lynch said.
Lynch says she went to a wrestling school to take some bumps to prepare for her potential new career.
“The guy that’s running the class goes, ‘Have you ever gone for a WWE tryout?’ I said no, I’m acting, I’ve got my flights booked, I’ve got my visa paid for, I’m going to New York. I’m a stuntwoman, apparently,” Lynch said.
She says that all it took for her to pursue WWE was for the wrestling school instructor to give her a vote of confidence.
“He goes, ‘I think you should think about it. I think you’d get it.’ I thought about it for maybe two seconds. Maybe less,” Lynch said.
A pair of recent NXT call-ups wrestled after last night’s episode of SmackDown Live. Yesterday’s episode ended with Becky Lynch defeating Carmella and Charlotte Flair to earn her way into the SmackDown Live Women’s Championship match at the Royal Rumble. Now, Lynch will be challenging Asukafor the SDL Women’s Title in Arizona.
After the show went off-air, recent NXT main roster call-ups, Heavy Machinery (Tucker Knight and Otis Dozovic), competed in a dark match. Knight and Dozovic defeated The Colons. Heavy Machinery is one of several recently announced main roster call-ups who have yet to officially debut on the main roster. It remains unclear what brand Heavy Machinery will be debuting for once they officially come up to the main roster on TV.
That wasn’t the only dark match of the night. WWE Champion Daniel Bryan defended his title against AJ Styles. The match came to an end when Bryan got himself disqualified by hitting Styles with a low blow. After the match, Styles responded with a low blow of his own. He hit Bryan with a Phenomenal Forearm and a Styles Clash to send fans home happy.
Lynch Rips Rousey (Video)
As mentioned, Becky Lynch will now be competing for the SDL Women’s Championship at the Royal Rumble. Following her victory on Tuesday night’s show, Lynch spoke to Kayla Braxton backstage. “The Irish Lass Kicker” said she has accomplished everything she said she would.
She proceeded to call out RAW Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey, who cost her the SDL Women’s Title at Tables Ladders and Chairs. Lynch called Rousey a “coward” for sticking her nose where it doesn’t belong. Check out Lynch’s interview with Braxton here:
During Monday’s edition of WWE Raw from Orlando, Florida, Sasha Banks earned the right to challenge Raw Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey at the Royal Rumble. According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, this was not the original plan for the match. Before WWE settled on Sasha Banks as Rousey’s Rumble opponent, the original plan was for Rousey to defend against Charlotte Flair.
Had Rousey faced Flair at Royal Rumble, the belief is that her next major feud would have been against Becky Lynch at Wrestlemania 35. There is still the possibility that we see Ronda vs Flair at Elimination Chamber in February.
Since this switch, Meltzer has speculated that WWE could be building towards a triple-threat matchup. The match would see Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch, and “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey compete for the championship.
“It’s not official that it’s gonna be a three-way at Wrestlemania,” Meltzer said. “It sure seems that way, yes. I was told it’s not official, it’s under consideration and because it’s under consideration the decision was made to pull the match from the Royal Rumble, which means they’re leaning toward it.”
Ronda’s actions at the end of December’s TLC event, costing both Lynch and Flair during their triple-threat match against Asuka, definitely sets up a natural series of matches. But with Rousey already holding a victory over Charlotte at Survivor Series last year, it will be interesting to see how WWE bring the three women together as we approach Wrestlemania.
What do you think? Are you happy with a triple-threat at Wrestlemania 35 or would you have preferred Becky Lynch vs Ronda Rousey?
WWE has announced a triple threat match for Smackdown Tuesday night. Becky Lynch, Charlotte Flair, and Carmella will meet in a #1 Contenders match. The winner will face Asuka for the Smackdown women’s championship at the Royal Rumble.
“Charlotte and Becky both feel that they should be SmackDown Women’s Champion at this present moment and only are not because of Ronda Rousey’s interference in their match against Asuka,” a WWE press release for the match reads.
Becky Lynch vs Carmella vs Charlotte Flair
The #1 contenders match also represents a return to the championship picture for Carmella, who held the title from last April to August. Carmella told media last month she plans to win back the title someday.
“I will become champion again,” Carmella said. “That’s for sure, but right now everyone has their moment and then you get back into the mix. I’m not in any rush, when it happens it’ll happen.”
Royal Rumble 2019
With the winner of this match taking on Asuka at the Royal Rumble, the updated card looks like this:
Royal Rumble 2019 – January 27th, 2019
Women’s Royal Rumble match
Men’s Royal Rumble match
Smackdown Women’s Championship
Asuka (c) vs (Winner of Carmella vs Charlotte Flair vs Becky Lynch)
WWE Championship
Daniel Bryan (c) vs AJ Styles
Universal Championship
Brock Lesnar (c) vs Braun Strowman
WWE Cruiserweight Championship Fatal 4-Way
Buddy Murphy (c) vs Kalisto vs Akira Tozawa vs TBD
Becky Lynch and Corey Graves are going at it once again. Last month, Lynch and Graves exchanged words on Twitter after “The Irish Lass Kicker” responded to some negative comments from the WWE commentator. Graves said that Lynch was too cocky, to which Lynch responded by mocking Graves’ “Heenan-lite” routine. Now, Graves has sparked another back-and-forth.
He recently responded to a Tweet from Bayley, who reflected on her 2018 with the new year kicking off this week. Graves joked that he can’t wait for their “romance” angle. A fan responded by saying he’d like to see Graves in a romance angle with SmackDown Live’s Lynch. Graves said that he would too, and suggested that Lynch “could use it.” The Irishwoman responded by calling Graves a “middle-aged emo poured into skinny jeans”.
Graves fired back by suggesting Lynch is ripping off UFC mega-star Conor McGregor’s gimmick. Since Lynch and McGregor have seemingly become friends in recent weeks, Graves said she should be better at the act. Check out the whole exchange below:
“Of all the things I could “use” in my life right now, a romance with a middle-aged emo poured into skinny jeans isn’t one of them. Maybe you should wait till Monday to reply, you know, when you’ll have help with what to say.”
While the internet has mostly been buzzing about the AEW wrestling promotion since the beginning of the year, a moment from this week’s episode of SmackDown Live was able to turn some heads as well.
This week’s SmackDown saw the Cenation Leader John Cena making his return to the WWE Programming, and he was confronted by none other than the man Becky Lynch.
While these two ended up working in a match as a tag team, after they won the bout, Becky made it clear that she wasn’t here to become friends with the 16 Time World Champion, by taunting him using his own trademark hand gesture.
After the show, John was interviewed backstage where he was asked about his encounter with the former SmackDown Women’s Champion and the former World Champion praised her, saying that she is not playing a character and actually believes in everything she is doing.
Later he said that Lynch has caught lightning in the bottle for the present. According to the former US Champion, the hard work for her starts now and the word he has for the Man is ‘it’s yours to lose’
John Cena is expected to make another appearance on WWE TV during next week’s episode of Raw but it appears he won’t be staying around for long. On the other hand, there is no word yet on who Becky Lynch might feud with next. You can check out John’s interview in the video below:
During the taping of New Years Day SmackDown Live last night in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, ‘The Man’ Becky Lynch came face-to-face with John Cena and confronted him.
John Cena made his return after a long time away from WWE TV to the SmackDown audience and was unfortunately interrupted by for SmackDown Women’s Champion Becky Lynch.
She told Cena that she will take his face off of the posters just like she took off Charlotte Flair’s face. She also added that if Cena has a problem with this then Nikki Bella will not be the only woman dropping him this year.
They were then interrupted by the duo of Andrade “Cien” Almas and Zelina Vega as both came down to the ring and a mixed tag team match was officiated.
The match ended with Becky throwing Cena out of the ring before making Zelina Vega submit. Even after all that BMJ offered a handshake to Becky but she declined and mocked him by doing the “You Can’t See Me” taunt, before walking away.
Despite having prematurely announced a match for the WWE SmackDown Women’s championship at the Royal Rumble during Main Event, it appears that those plans may not be entirely off the table.
According to Dave Meltzer, WWE is going to have a number of meetings this week in order to “come up with a Rumble card.”
“Originally, the match [Asuka vs Lynch] was happening, but then Vince decided that he wanted to revamp the card […] when they taped Main Event it was gonna air later in the week,” he explained.
“At that time, the plan was to announce the match with Asuka and Becky Lynch on Tuesday’s SmackDown but, during that interim period, Vince decided to change his mind,” he said. “So they never announced that match on that SmackDown. Not saying that match won’t happen, but it was definitely off when that show came on.”
So it appears that the Main Event announcement for the hotly anticipated opportunity for Lynch to compete for her former title was due to a lapse of internal communication, coupled with understandable confusion stemming from a last-minute change of heart.
The fact that WWE is still holding meetings in order to finalize the Rumble card, however, means there could still be a (slim) chance the match goes ahead.
What do you think? Would you prefer to see this matchup for the championship? Do you think Becky Lynch will win the Rumble?
WWE NXT UK star Toni Storm has a big match ahead of her. She’s set to challenge Rhea Ripley for the NXT UK Women’s Championship. The match will go down at the NXT UK TakeOver: Blackpool event on Saturday, January 12th. A big showing in Blackpool could help Storm make an even bigger name for herself in the WWE.
In fact, she draws inspiration from, arguably, WWE’s hottest star at the moment. Speaking to Express.co.uk recently, Storm explained why Lynch is her “biggest inspiration” in professional wrestling after seeing what she has done for WWE’s women’s division:
“Becky Lynch is currently my biggest inspiration,” Storm said. “She is taking the women’s division to a completely different level. Her strengths and her fire are definitely inspiring me right now. I hope to eventually step into the ring with her because I feel the biggest competition at the moment is Becky Lynch.”
It’s hard not to draw inspiration from “The Irish Lass Kicker.” After her heel turn at SummerSlam this past August, the WWE Universe really rallied behind the Irishwoman. She went on to win the SmackDown Live Women’s Championship at the Hell In A Cell pay-per-view (PPV). Lynch then found herself in a feud with RAW Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey.
Professional wrestling fans can’t stop raving about the rise of Becky Lynch in WWE this year. Lynch captured the SmackDown Live Women’s Championship from best-friend-turned rival Charlotte Flair at the Hell In A Cell pay-per-view (PPV) this past October. She was then set for a massive showdown against RAW Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey at Survivor Series the following month.
Unfortunately, an injury suffered during the RAW invasion angle forced her off the card. Lynch dropped the SDL Women’s Title earlier this month. She was defeated in a Triple Threat TLC match thanks to some interference from Rousey. Given the current three-way rivalry between Rousey, Flair, and Lynch, WWE could have something massive planned for the feud.
With 2018 coming to a close, it’s hard to spot a more impressive Superstar from the year other than Lynch. She was recently named CBS’ Wrestler Of The Year after an amazing 2018. Along with her Wrestler Of The Year award, Lynch also took home two more. She was awarded Match Of The Year with her involvement in the Triple Threat TLC bout in which she lost her title.
Lynch also received Moment Of The Year for her attack on Ronda Rousey on RAW, before subsequently suffering a concussion and broken nose at the hands of Nia Jax. “The Irish Lass Kicker” recently took to Twitter to react to being named CBS’ Wrestler Of The Year for 2018:
“Start of 2018, I couldn’t even get on TV. You’re never truly down, you’re never truly out. Stand up and fight. Keep swinging even if you don’t know what you’re swinging for, or at. If you’re like me you’ll eventually slap a head that deserves it and the whole world will notice.”
Becky Lynch lit the WWE on fire in 2018. “The Irish Lass Kicker” emerged as a huge WWE fan favorite back in August when she turned on Charlotte Flair at SummerSlam. While it might not have been what WWE was planning for, they made a star with Lynch’s post-match beatdown of Flair at “The Biggest Party Of The Summer.” Lynch went on to win the SmackDown Live Women’s Title from Flair at the Hell In A Cell pay-per-view (PPV).
This set up a big match between Lynch and RAW Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey at Survivor Series. Unfortunately, Lynch suffered an injury that forced her to miss the card. However, she’s expected to be a big part of the plans for WrestleMania 35’s main event. Lynch recently dropped the SDL Women’s Title to Asuka at the Tables Ladders and Chairs PPV.
She and Charlotte Flair were sabotaged by Ronda Rousey, who interfered in the match by pushing both women off a ladder. This allowed Asuka to climb the ladder and grab the title for herself. The issues between Lynch, Flair, and Rousey could be leading to something big in the future. But with that being said, the Irishwoman has emerged as one of WWE’s biggest stars in 2018. Her stardom has even attracted the attention of UFC mega-star Conor McGregor.
Lynch recently took to Twitter to reflect on her amazing year, and looked ahead at what’s to come in 2019:
“2018: Even the other wrestlers couldn’t take their eyes off me. 2019: I finish this job I started.”
Out of all the stars who have reinvented themselves and reached new heights by developing their character this year, Becky Lynch has to be on the top of the list.
Not only did Becky fuelled a fire in herself but became a character hot enough that she is now possibly the strongest candidate to main event the WrestleMania 35 event.
So it was no surprise that CBS Sports chose the former SmackDown Women’s Champion as their wrestler of the year, saying that no one has shaken up the professional wrestling world like ‘The Man’:
“In a year filled with stunning developments, no one shook up the world of professional wrestling more than Becky Lynch, who has turned both WWE and the business as a whole on its head over the last six months by not only winning the hearts and minds of fans across the globe but doing so while standing out as “The Man” in an industry historically dominated by men.”
Lynch also responded to this accolade via her Twitter account, recalling how she couldn’t even get on TV at the start of 2018 and claimed that you’re never truly down:
WWE had originally announced Becky Lynch vs. Asuka for Royal Rumble but the company has backed out from that bout since then and currently, there is no word yet on what they are planning for her now.
Former WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion Becky Lynch has gained massive popularity recently after a big slump in her career, when she got a change of character as ‘The Man’. The change has been well received by fans and critics alike.
However, one WWE Legend and Hall of Famer is not really impressed with Becky Lynch’s gimmick.
On the What A Rushpodcast, Road Warrior Animal gave his thoughts on ‘The Man’ and said that she’s better off without the gimmick and should instead be a “pure white meat babyface that doesn’t quit.”
“I would let her back off of ‘The Man’ thing and let her just be a pure white meat babyface that doesn’t quit. Those are the kind of babyfaces that work,” said Road Warrior Animal. “When you come out there with the attitude and strutting your stuff like she’s some kind of tough guy, come on! Jesus, Lord, anybody that’s ever been in a fight can see right through it and I’m just being realistic because that’s what works in this business.”
Becky Lynch saw the article covering the podcast on WrestleZone and responded with the following:
In the usual Becky way, she replied with “The first four words of your headline are a lie” implying that Road Warrior Animal doesn’t think.
The tweet has since blown up and is now at 22,000 likes. It is safe to say that pretty much everyone here disagrees with Road Warrior. Becky has been riding a wave of success and popularity with her new character, and it has been pretty entertaining to see and a change in her career in the WWE was long overdue.
Asuka vs Becky Lynch at Royal Rumble Announced And Then Withdrawn
In other news concerning the Smackdown women’s division, a potential championship match was announced and then canceled last week. Asuka defending her title against Becky Lynch was announced for Royal Rumble 2019 on Main Event this week. Not long after, however, Smackdown General Manager Tweeted out that she had made the match before being relieved of her position.
“Soooo I tried to make one last match before my time as #SDLive GM came to end…but unfortunately @BeckyLynchWWE vs. @WWEAsuka for the Smackdown Women’s Championship is NOT official for #RoyalRumble. #Oops”
Ronda Rousey recently held a Q&A on her YouTube channel. The RAW Women’s Champion discussed a number of topics with the main highlight being her intervention in the TLC Main Event. Rousey interfered and cost Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch the match, leaving Asuka to climb the ladder and grab the Smackdown Women’s Championship.
Rousey said that “I have a lot of respect for Asuka and I’ve always have. I didn’t really want to rain on her parade at the Royal Rumble. I just wanted to come out and congratulate her and bring more eyes to her incredible moment. She didn’t seem too thrilled about that.” Rousey then turned her attention to Lynch and Flair, stating that “At TLC, both Charlotte and Becky are a bunch of cheaters, they had it coming to them. I don’t have to explain my actions to anybody. I was completely justified by my actions.” Ronda elaborated further, saying that “Payback is a b—- and Askua deserves to be champion more than either of them. She’s never had to cheat. She never had to walk out of a match because she was losing. She’s just the best and now she’s the champ.”

Former WCW President Eric Bischoff just threw out a comparison that has been making the rounds as of late. Now-former SmackDown Live Women’s Champion Becky Lynch has been getting comparisons to Hall Of Famer Stone Cold Steve Austin. Lynch has become, arguably, WWE’s biggest star in recent months. After turning heel on Charlotte Flair, the WWE Universe really began to get behind “The Irish Lass Kicker.”
She went on to capture the SDL Women’s Title at the Hell In A Cell pay-per-view (PPV) from Flair. However, she recently lost it to Asuka in a Triple Threat Tables Ladders and Chairs (TLC) match. That’s thanks in part to some interference from RAW Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey. With that being said, Lynch is undoubtedly one of WWE’s hottest starsat the moment.
Its been quite some time since fans have gotten behind a Superstar the way they have for her. During a recent edition of the “After 83 Weeks” podcast, Bischoff explained his comparison between Lynch and Austin:
“I’m more of a Becky Lynch fan right now than I have been a fan of anybody in the last fifteen years. It’s because about two weeks ago I began noticing her social media, tweets, the messages she was putting out…
“If she has somebody writing them for her, I want to know who that person is because they are a really smart writer. If she doesn’t have somebody [writing the tweets] for her and she’s doing it herself, she’s going to be the next Stone Cold Steve Austin for WWE because she is a believable character.
“Forget about what I’ve seen on television. I’m not discarding it, but setting it aside. Her ability to capture my imagination on social media was profound. I mean, I went, whoa! She’s got it! She’s becoming so believable and unique and you can’t teach that.“
What do you think of Bischoff’s comparison between Lynch and Austin?
