WWE Interviews Big E & Ambrose About Unifying The IC & US Titles (Poll)

Just a few weeks after the unification of the WWE Championship and the World Heavyweight championship, WWE.com is already questioning whether the company should also unify the secondary Intercontinental and United States championships. Who better to discuss a possible unification than the reigning champions themselves, Big E Langston and Dean Ambrose.

Both men agreed that unification is a good idea if it means the secondary title would have more prestige, which it undoubtedly would. While Ambrose was on board with the idea of introducing an entirely new belt, Big E says the United States title should be absorbed into the IC title:

“The Intercontinental Championship should always be around in WWE. It’s very historic, and I don’t think we should lose that history.”

When asked how the belts should be unified, Langston suggested a scaffold match, while Ambrose is in favor of a steel cage match.

When asked directly if they’re ready for a Champion vs. Champion showdown, Langston says he would “welcome the challenge” and Ambrose said, “I feel that what I’ve given and sacrificed for the U.S. Title, I’d be willing to put that on the line as a pride thing. It’s just as good as the Intercontinental Title. That’s something I’d be willing to prove.”

WWE RAW Reaction (12/23): The “YES!” & The “NO!”

WWE RAW (12/23)

Here are some quick thoughts about this weeks edition of Christmas Raw. Did you watch it?

The WWE Diva's are awesome to look at. Not so awesome to watch wrestle.

The WWE Diva’s are awesome to look at. Not so awesome to watch wrestle.

12-diva’s Jingle Bells Match: The tag team division has been completely turned around.  At one point it seemed like there was barely a tag team division. AJ Lee is the best women’s wrestler on the roster, why aren’t we seeing her in great matches. I guess I know why, because of Total Diva’s.  That doesn’t mean there can’t be great woman’s wrestling.  NO!

John Cena, CM Punk, and Big E. Langston victorious to end Christmas Raw

John Cena, CM Punk, and Big E. Langston victorious to end Christmas Raw

CM Punk John Cena & Big E Langston vs The Shield I enjoyed the match, Cena, Punk and Big E all out there. The end seemed silly though. Why would there suddenly be a disqualification, because the two illegal Shield members saved themselves from being pinned by Big E? It doesn’t make sense, but still the match was better than the Good Santa vs Bad Santa, which I thought for sure would close the show. Therefore it gets a YES!

The USOS vs The Prime Time Players:  The match was fun to watch.  Good tag team action YES!|

The USO's and The Prime Time Players all celebrate after the match. Barf

The USO’s and The Prime Time Players all celebrate after the match. Barf

The USOS & Prime Time Players Curtain Call Before the match Darren Young mistakenly refer to Austin Texas as Houston, to get some sort of heel heat, I didn’t have a problem with this. I did have a problem with after the match, The USO’s and The Prime Time Players all doing the Millions of Dollars dance. Here’s why I have an issue with it.  This is starting to become a thing, with Superstars hugging after the match, we saw it a few weeks ago with the Michael Strahan, Miz, Titus O’neil segment. We saw it with Big Show, Rey Mysterio and The Rhodes. Forget about ruthless aggression, these guys are all becoming wimps! It’s OKAY for two fan favorites to dislike each other, and not hug at the end. I’m not saying they need to attack each other after the match… but I’m hoping it’s just a lighthearted Christmas episode thing, and not a growing trend. Although with the recent article of WWE shopping their television shows to TV Network’s including Disney. We might see everyone hug at the end of matches in the future. NO!

"Bad Santa' full of Christmas Cupcakes

“Bad Santa’ full of Christmas Cupcakes

Good Santa Vs Bad Santa: It is what it is I guess. Mark Henry playing the good Santa, Damien Sandow playing the bad Santa with produced backstage segments contrasting the two. The announcers played it up as you would have expected. The whole concept is silly. Bah Humbug! NO!

Live Announcing: I would say it was a good thing that Michael Cole and JBL announced the show live from Stanford CT. (They had pre-recorded cut-in’s from the arena, but voiced most of Raw Live) it gave it a fresh feel, JBL made some topical references as he eluded to on twitter. The Batista announcement which clearly wasn’t scheduled for the show originally was added in, and the live commentary allowed for reaction from JB and Cole. Did you miss Jerry “The King” Lawler? I did not. YES!

"Santa Claus is an Illegal Immigrant" - Zeb Colter

“Santa Claus is an Illegal Immigrant” – Zeb Colter

The Real Americans vs Los Matadores: Another good tag team match on Raw. We saw the Antonio Cesaro swing, which if you haven’t’ seen live is an awesome thing to watch. With all the tag teams in the WWE, I think the WrestleMania pre-show match should involve all the tag-teams that one make it to the PPV. Perhaps the winner can face the champions.  YES!

RAW OVERALL: NO! Call me scrooge if you will, but the over cheesy holiday wrestling show, should go on Smackdown!  I think Raw looses it’s coolness by being lame. If Disney pony’s up the cash this could be what you see on RAW every week so get used to it! There was some good action on the show which I enjoyed, no real progression of WWE story lines but the big announcement of The Animal Batista, which was awesome to see.

Confirmed Title Match For RAW Next Week, Jim Ross On Batista’s WWE Return

– Due to his victory in the “Christmas Present on a Pole Match” at the special Holiday themed-edition of WWE RAW on Monday night, Fandango will get a shot at the WWE Intercontinental Championship. It was announced that Fandango will challenge Big E. Langston on RAW next Monday night.

– WWE Hall Of Famer Jim Ross tweeted the following regarding the WWE return of Batista:

  • Details On WWE’s Planned SURPRISE ENTRANTS For The 2014 Royal Rumble Match
  • Top 5 Superstars To Look Out For In 2014

In pro wrestling, the mindset of a fan is: “what’s next?” A great match or moment happens at a pay-per-view and immediately afterwards the question becomes, “how do they follow this up on RAW tomorrow?” So while 2013 had its’ share of good moments and bad, as we near the end of the year, the question inevitably becomes, “what’s next?”

If you read the headlines here on the website on a regular basis, when it comes to WWE, it appears as if 2014 will be a year where some new blood breaks through at the top level. Where guys who are just getting started in WWE break through to that next level and become legitimate WWE Superstars. Where guys who aren’t quite there just yet, but are so close, finally reach that level. They become main event players. Who will these people be? Well, in WWE, you never really know, but let’s take a look at five guys who seem to be well on their way.

As Santa Claus fills up the gas tank in his mighty sleigh, as the New Year looms right around the corner, we’re going to take a look at three Superstars currently in WWE that will likely come into their own and reach the top of the profession within the year. It’s time to take a look at the “Top 5 Superstars To Look Out For In 2014.”

    #5. Damien Sandow

WWE Hall Of Famer Jim Ross wrote about this guy recently. WWE Hall Of Famer Mick Foley talks about him on a regular basis. WWE Hall Of Famer “Stone Cold” Steve Austin has said if this guy shows a little bit more of a mean streak, he’ll be well on his way, and Damien Sandow has been doing exactly that in recent weeks. He’s a talented performer who is stuck in a pretty lame gimmick, yet he somehow makes it work. He’s entertaining, period. If the guy gets some real opportunities in 2014, which I feel he will, he could legitimately break through to the next level. Will he become the face of WWE in 2014? Doubtful. Will he ever be the face of WWE? Probably not. But will he be stuck on pay-per-view Kickoff Show matches that serve little to no purpose? I don’t think so. I think by this time next year, Damien Sandow will be a legitimate Superstar. He may not headline many shows, but I think this is one of the few guys on the current WWE roster with the talent and potential to perform at a higher level than that in which he currently resides. I think Damien Sandow is somebody to look out for in 2014.

    #4. Big E. Langston

Big E. Langston is a different situation altogether. While he may not shock and awe wrestling fans with his match quality, or his promo ability for that matter, he has that certain something that WWE looks for. I wouldn’t necessarily call it an “it factor” as much as I would the ability to lift a lot of heavy weights. Vince McMahon, and to a lesser extent Triple H, both of whom have a strong passion for bodybuilding, (remember the WBF, everybody?) seem to have set their sights on Langston as a future Superstar in WWE. There may be a whole heap of performers on the current WWE roster that are more deserving of some big opportunities, but from all accounts, it appears as if 2014 will be a big year for the muscled-up Tampa native. Big E. Langston is somebody to look out for in 2014.

“See No Evil” Film Directors Interested In Wrestling, Big E Langston & Mark Henry Highlights, Ron Bass

    – Jen Soska and Sylvia Soska, Canadian twin sisters who are directing WWE Studios’ See No Evil 2, revealed on Twitter that there is no set date for the film and both would be interested in competing inside the WWE ring. The twin duo also remarked on working with WWE Studios for the film.

“Love working w/ @WWEStudios – you guys are in for a real treat w/ @SeeNoEvil2Movie, best experience we’ve ever had killing people #twinning.”

    – The tandem of Big E Langston and Mark Henry wreaking havoc on The Real Americans are highlighted in the “WWE Raw Slam of the Week.”

    – Celebrating birthdays Saturday were former WWE wrestlers “Outlaw” Ron Bass (65) and Gymini (46).

Former WWE Trainer Speaks On Best Performer Of 2013, Who To Look For In 2014

The following are highlights of an “Against The Mat” interview with former WWE trainer Tom Prichard:

On who he felt had the best in-ring performance of 2013: “I like thinking about the newcomers, I like thinking about the guys who come from developmental, so I really have to say that for me personally, I’m gonna go with a Dean Ambrose vote just for the fact that I’m partial and I’m prejudice and all those things combined, so as far as seeing what he can do as a team, yes, but standing out on his own and having him win the United States Championship out of that team, or out of that crew, The Shield first was a major accomplishment for him and I think there’s more to come, definitely from Dean Ambrose.”

On who to watch out for in 2014: “I have my eye on Big E. Langston. Again, for personal and biased reasons. I had the advantage of seeing Big E. from the very beginning, his first tryout and watched him progress from there. I think we’ve only seen the tip of the iceberg.”

  • Big E Langston Talks About Batista Returning To WWE, His Relationship With Cena

WWE Intercontinental champion Big E. Langston was a recent guest on the Chad Dukes Wrestling radio show on CBS radio in Washington D.C. You can listen to audio of the appearance at ChadDukesWrestlingShow.com. Here are some highlights about what he said about:

His Dream Opponents: “There are a few guys. For me it’s kinda cool to think about guys you grew up and you idolized. Undertaker has a spot where he has that allure, and that mystique, and everyone always kinda goes to Undertaker as being their guy, and rightfully so. I was also a huge Vader fan, so if they were ever able to bring him back for one, I think that would be cool as well. I know there’s been talk possibly, and I have no idea if it’s gonna happen, about Batista possibly coming back. You know guys like that, you grew up watching idolized, you know they’re all kind a dreams who knows if they’ll ever come to fruition.”

His Relationship with John Cena: “He’s been very helpful over the past few years, even before I got called up. Just giving me advice, he opened up the weight room to me. I live about 15 minutes away from his gym. He’s been very helpful, just kinda giving me pointers throughout the way, just giving me advice, and really just trying to be a mentor in many ways. I’m really grateful for him taking time to help and guide me. Honestly, he’s done that for a lot of younger talent, people just don’t see that.”

  • Big E Langston Talks About His IC Title Win, Learning From John Cena, AJ-Ziggler

WWE Intercontinental Champion Big E Langston recently spoke with The Miami Herald to promote his new WWE 2K14 character as part of the latest DLC pack. Here are some highlights of what he said about:

Fans Supporting His IC Title Win: “It’s something I hoped was there, but was so rewarding when I got [that fan reaction], it was one of those things where I wasn’t sure [it would happen]. After being a bodyguard, there was about a month-and-a-half period where I wasn’t doing a whole lot, and I don’t think I was on Raw very much. So I was a little worried I would lose momentum, but it was really cool. Even before that, getting 75 percent of the fan vote against Miz and Dolph [Ziggler] to get the match with Randy Orton, I’ve been so thankful for their support.”

Carrying the IC Title: “The Intercontinental title has such a great history of champions before me like Pat Patterson and The Rock. For me, I feel as if I have this sense of responsibility with upholding that prestige and honor. I want the title to be seen as an important title. That is something that is on me with the way I carry myself, the way I perform and every night I make sure people remember it as an important title. I look to be world champion, and it’s a goal that is very important to me, but upholding the prestige of the Intercontinental championship is important to me as well.”

Being with AJ Lee and Dolph Ziggler: “Being with AJ and traveling with her and Dolph was really cool. One of the things I admired about her is how driven she is. She is focused and aware of her brand and the message she wants to get across to fans as well. So I’ve always respected that about her. She is very cognitive about what she does inside the ring and outside of it. I’ve also been able to learn from Dolph as well when we were together. Even now, he has been helpful. That first six to seven-month period of being a bodyguard was great because it allowed me the opportunity to ease into my time in WWE and to learn. It was a great start.”

Learning from John Cena: “John’s been great. I’ve been able to work out of his gym the last few years now and kind of pick his brain at times as well. He has given me advice and little things to make me better throughout the years. One of the things he told me ‘owning the moment.’ When you’re out there, you really do have an opportunity to make a memorable moment. That’s kind of one of the things I learned from him.”

Big E Langston Interview: If He’s Stronger Than Mark Henry, Advice From John Cena

WWE Intercontinental champion Big E Langston spoke to Sports Illustrated’s Extra Mustard this week to promote his new playable character in the latest WWE 2K14 DLC Pack. Here are some highlights of what he said about:

Where His WWE 2K14 Character Ranks Among His Career Achievements:

“Appearing at WrestleMania and winning the Intercontinental Championship are up there, but WWE 2K14 is right behind. I’ve been gaming for as long as I can remember—I had a Super Nintendo, I played the original Nintendo—and I never thought I’d be immortalized in a game. It’s different than being in a football game, where you’re under a helmet and it’s just your number. In 2K14, this is me. This is my Titantron, my music, my likeness … they nailed me. It looks just like me. When I got to actually play it, I was amazed by the job they did.”

His Favorite WrestleMania Match of All Time:

“Randy Savage versus Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat from WrestleMania III. It was such a classic.

The Best Advice He’s Received In WWE:

“From John Cena, I learned about the importance of timing and the moment. There are things you can let get away from you, and things might happen out of nowhere, but it’s all about owning the moment. When you’re out there in front of the crowd, it’s about taking that chance or doing something special so you go from just being a guy to being someone important.”

Who Is Stronger: Him or Mark Henry?

“I haven’t trained with Mark, but I have to give him his props. At his best, he is one of the strongest men ever. Right now, I’d like to say I’d move more weight than Mark. I don’t know if that’s true or not, but I think I got him.”

Two New Matches Confirmed For WWE TLC Pay-Per-View

Damien Sandow defeated Dolph Ziggler in a match on RAW to determine the number one contender to the WWE Intercontinental Championship. Because of the victory, Sandow will now battle Big E. Langston for the title in two weeks at the WWE TLC pay-per-view.

Also announced for the upcoming WWE TLC pay-per-view is a handicap match featuring CM Punk against all three members of The Shield. The match was made by the Director Of Operations Kane on this week’s RAW.

Backstage News On The WWE Creative Team Changing Plans And Freaking Out

According to one source, there is said to be a lot of panic backstage in WWE right now regarding creative plans.

When the call was made to switch Daniel Bryan and Big Show in the WWE title picture, the idea was Big Show vs. Randy Orton in a main event match at Survivor Series, with them following up at the TLC pay-per-view with a Big Show vs. Triple H match. Plans then changed to have Orton vs. Big Show in a tables match, which is why Big Show chokeslammed Orton through the announce table on RAW a few weeks back.

At one point, there was an idea floating around that John Cena would feud with Big E. Langston for the World Heavyweight Championship, with Langston turning back heel. When Survivor Series was over, both of those matches were scrapped and the new TLC main event ended up as Cena vs. Orton for both of the titles. As recently reported, there is now talk of having that match serve as a unification match, despite originally not intending to unify the titles.

As far as the creative team is concerned, one WWE source noted that they are “burnt out and scared of who might not be there too much longer.”

  • Big E Langston & Mark Henry Expected To Feud, WWE Copies Storyline From TNA, Focus On Tag Teams

    – As seen Monday night on Raw, WWE Intercontinental Champion Big E Langston and Mark Henry defeated the team of Ryback and Curtis Axel, with Henry being portrayed as a mentor to the young up-and-comer. This alliance is not expected to last, because as of this week, WWE creative has plans for “The World’s Strongest Man” to battle Langston at the Royal Rumble.

    – As seen Sunday night at Survivor Series, Mark Henry returned to action by answering Ryback’s open challenge, and defeating him. According to F4WOnline.com, the short-lived storyline was copied from TNA Wrestling. On Impact Wrestling on Spike TV, former WWE Diva and reigning TNA Women’s Champion Gail Kim has been issuing open challenges, which inspired WWE’s creative department to utilize the idea for themselves.

    – According to a source within WWE, plans are in place for the company to heavily focus on tag team competition in 2014, and company officials are contemplating holding a three-day tryout camp for independent wrestling duos early in the year. It is said that WWE honcho Paul “Triple H” Levesque is a huge fan of tag team wrestling.

Jim Ross Blog: WWE Unifying Titles, Roman Reigns, Big E. Langston & More

The following are highlights from the latest online blog by WWE Hall Of Famer Jim Ross:

On overall Survivor Series thoughts: “I watched WWE Survivor Series Sunday night from Boston. No, I don’t get them for free and never have but who’s complaining? I get asked this question every PPV weekend. I pay my way and don’t condone people stealing including PPV’s from any company.”

On Roman Reigns: “Highlight of the PPV for me was the spotlight placed on Roman Reigns who pinned four members of the opposition with the same move, a nice, snug clothesline. Reigns has “it” and has always been high on everyone’s list of hopeful, future WWE main eventers. The son of WWE Hall of Famer Wild Samoan Sika has transformed his former nose tackle body into a more healthy, appealing and more marketable one since signing with WWE’s developmental program. Soon…I expect that the other two Shield members will also be more in the spotlight as both Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose are also marketably skilled and have excellent futures, as well.”

On Big E. Langston: “Bothers me to read some tweets @JRsBBQ regarding Big E Langston who I got to know well in NXT and who I feel has a very significant upside. ‘E’ is another talented, educated, dependable athlete who is so much more than a former power lifter. The former state high school wrestling champion and D1 football lineman at Iowa has great feet and agility plus he’s another student of the game and takes his preparation and in ring progress seriously.”

On the WWE and World titles possibly being unified: “Not sure what to make of a title unification match, if that’s where WWE is headed, with Cena and Orton. A unique way to end the show that certainly presented more questions and speculation than answers. That’s not necessarily a bad thing. I’d expect that particular matter to be at the center of attention on RAW Monday night.”

  • Jim Ross Blog: Monday’s RAW, Randy Orton, Langston’s Title Win, Pat Patterson

The following are highlights from the latest online blog by WWE Hall Of Famer Jim Ross.

On Randy Orton: “Is Randy Orton a fan favorite or a villain? One can’t be both, as a rule….but, of course, I’m out of touch with today’s product. I think that I may have missed the class on the invisible line between good and evil. In real life that may be true but last I looked pro wrestling on TV isn’t real life.”

On Big E. Langston: “Congrats to Big E Langston for becoming the IC Champion. I wish Big E nothing but success. The former Iowa Hawkeye Defensive Tackle is a beast of an athlete with great integrity. One can’t get too many like him in any locker room. I got to know “E” well in NXT. Fans have loved him there for a long time at Full Sail Arena. Hopefully many of today’s impatient fans will allow Big E to continue to evolve as he’s not even close to reaching his potential.”

On Pat Patterson: “I’m told Pat Patterson is writing his memoirs and after seeing much of Pat’s photo collection from over his career I’m betting the book will be great. Pat has a tremendous sense of humor and was one of the best in ring performers ever along with being a tremendous wrestling strategist. Pat’s journey as a gay man in a largely homophobic, alpha Caucasian male, good old boys network known as pro wrestling in the territory days is one of courage and conviction. I can’t wait to read it. I learned a great deal about the wrestling biz and life from Pat.”

WWE Responds To Fans Saying John Cena “Can’t Wrestle”, WWE Removes Leaked Footage, More

    – Back in August while promoting SummerSlam, John Cena made reference to his “Five Moves of Doom” on an episode of Raw, a colloquial term for his trademark sequence of moves (flying shoulderblock, sitout hip toss, side-release spinout powerbomb, Five Knuckle Shuffle and Attitude Adjustment). The official WWE website published a video today in response to the infamous notion that Cena “can’t wrestle.”

“Then how do you explain the powerbomb, neckbreaker and hurricanrana he dishes out in this video?,” WWE.com says of video on the front page, entitled “10 moves from John Cena’s underrated arsenal.” The video caption reads, “John Cena shows that he is capable of much more than his proverbial “Five Moves of Doom.”

    – WWE filed a copyright claim in response to satellite footage from last Monday’s Raw that surfaced on YouTube and had the two videos removed.

Pre-Raw footage was leaked of the announcers preparing for the broadcast, which notably features Michael Cole acknowledging plans of a wrestler being put through his table later in the evening. In the other video, Big E Langston, Dolph Ziggler, The Miz are shown preparing for a WWE App segment, which features Ziggler using colorful language.

Smackdown ring announcer and “army brat” Lilian Garcia posted a message on her official website celebrating Veteran’s Day.

Update On Langston/Axel, SmackDown Rating Delayed, WWE Honors Veteran’s Day

    – As previously reported, the Big E. Langston vs. Curtis Axel match was bumped from the WWE Main Event show last week because Langston was traveling to Europe for the current overseas tour. The belief within WWE is that the match will be happening on television at some point this week.

    – The final cable rating for last Friday’s edition of WWE SmackDown will be delayed due to the Veteran’s Day holiday on Monday in the United States.

    – WWE will be giving a portion of the money earned from WWE Shop sales to Hire Heroes USA in honor of the Veteran’s Day holiday in the U.S.
