New WWE Hell in a Cell Kickoff Match Announced Following Axel’s Injury, Langston To Appear On PPV?

WWE’s official Twitter account announced this afternoon that Intercontinental Champion Curtis Axel will be unable to compete tonight in the WWE Hell in a Cell Kickoff Match after sustaining an undisclosed injury. According to WWE’s official website, following a second evaluation by medical personnel, he was not cleared for in-ring action.

In place of the scheduled Intercontinental Championship between Axel and Big E Langston, Kofi Kingston will face “Mr. Money in the Bank,” Damien Sandow in a singles match.

It would appear that Langston is not being left out in the cold, as the website is teasing a possible appearance at the pay-per-view. The website states, “With this Kickoff Match taking place on the same night as John Cena’s momentous return to action to challenge Alberto Del Rio for the World Heavyweight Championship, what is going through Sandow’s mind as he carries his coveted Money in the Bank contract into Miami’s American Airlines Arena? Also, now that Langston is no longer scheduled to compete, how will the rising star look to make an impact tonight at WWE Hell in a Cell?”

Wrestler Pulled From Tonight’s Hell In A Cell Pay-Per-View, Will Layla Return To Dancing?, WWE 2K14

– It was announced last week that Curtis Axel would defend the WWE Intercontinental Championship against Big E Langston tonight in the WWE Hell in a Cell Kickoff, which streams live at 7:30 p.m. ET/4:30 p.m. PT. The match, however, has been officially nixed due to Axel suffering an injury.

The official Twitter account of WWE announced at 2:03 p.m.: “BREAKING: Due to injury, @RealCurtisAxel will not compete tonight at #HellInACell. Stay tuned to WWE.com for updates.”

– Speaking to WWE Magazine, Layla reveals that she has no plans on resuming her dancing career—prior to joining WWE in 2006, she was a dancer for Carnival Cruise Lines, the Miami Heat franchise of the National Basketball Association, and also danced for Kanye West at the MTV Video Music Awards.

“I would always be willing to do something for charity for WWE, but I’ve moved on from that part of my life. I was happy when I heard the Miami Heat had won the championship this year, but I also felt smug since I had already got my championship ring with them. First time’s a charm!”

The former WWE Divas Champion also reveals that she would like to peek inside the male wrestlers’ locker room. She states, “Not because I want to secretly check them out or anything, but I’d love to get a glimpse at the dynamic going on in there. All them always try to play it so cool. I want to see them in their natural habitat.”

– The official WWE website has issued a poll asking fans which WrestleMania dream match they you like to see simulated in WWE 2K14. The options are Shawn Michaels vs. The Rock, John Cena vs. Hulk Hogan, The Undertaker vs. Goldberg, and Daniel Bryan vs. Ric Flair.

WWE Pulls Listing For Hell in a Cell Kickoff Match, Konnan Says Eight WWE Stars Should Be Tossed

– It was announced last week that Curtis Axel would defend the WWE Intercontinental Championship against Big E Langston tonight in the WWE Hell in a Cell Kickoff, which streams live at 7:30 p.m. ET/4:30 p.m. PT. However, it now appears that the match has been nixed, as the match is no longer advertised on the Hell in a Cell page on WWE.com, not to mention that the page previewing the match, has been deleted.

No match is being advertised for the WWE Hell in a Cell Kickoff, with the following stated: “Find out who will be the next WWE Champion and watch John Cena’s in-ring return when WWE Hell in a Cell airs live on pay-per-view tonight at 8 ET/5 PT, and don’t forget to check out the Kickoff, which streams live at 7:30 ET/4:30 PT!”

– Konnan, who is always vocal about WWE on his podcast and on Twitter, feels a number of WWE Superstars should be removed from television—due to poor performance and/or lack of marketability. In response to a fan on Twitter asking him which two talents should be written off television, he responded with eight, including reigning WWE Intercontinental Champion Curtis Axel, all three members of 3MB, and three WWE Divas.

“Brad Maddox, JoJo, Rosa, 3MB, Axel, Aksana, would write dem off,” said Konnan.

Konnan, however, is high on two wrestlers he feels are underutilized. In response to a question asking who should be pushed, he stated, “Ziggler and Cesaro.”

– Tonight at WWE Hell in a Cell, Cody Rhodes and Goldust will defend the WWE Tag Team Championship against the team of Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins, as well as Jey and Jimmy Uso. Rollins vows to reclaim the gold.

“Tonight is for reclamation. @WWEUsos & the #RhodesDynasty may be bonded by blood, but talent outperforms tradition. Believe that. #HIAC,” he wrote on Twitter.

Update On Vince McMahon’s Return To Television, Big E’ Recent Struggles

– With Monday’s Raw drawing one of its worst ratings figures since 1997 (a 2.68 cable rating, with an average of 3.58 million viewers over the course of the show), there are people within WWE speculating that Vince McMahon will resurface on television sooner rather than later. As of one week ago, creative plans called for the Chairman to return sometime in November.

However, in recent days, there has been talk that his return may be pushed forward, perhaps as early as this Monday’s episode of Raw.

– Since breaking up with AJ Lee following SummerSlam, Big E Langston has largely floundered in WWE. In large part, this is being attributed to the absence of John Cena, who is considered his number-one supporter in the organization.

– WWE Hall of Famers Dory Funk, Jr. and Terry Funk are returning to Japan. Dory revealed this bit of news on Twitter, but did not elaborate further.

Details On Paul Heyman’s New Client, Big E. Langston’s Babyface Turn & More

Based on Sunday night’s WWE Night Of Champions pay-per-view, it appears as though Ryback is the new Paul Heyman client that has been rumored for a while now.

As noted previously, there was discussion internally in WWE of using an unknown from NXT as a new “Paul Heyman guy,” while the other options were moving either Ryback or Big E. Langston over to the Heyman crew. It appears that WWE is turning Langston babyface, and decided to go with Ryback as Heyman’s new client. If that is the case, you can expect it to be confirmed on RAW tonight.

For those who missed it, Ryback came to the aid of Heyman after CM Punk beat Curtis Axel in the Handicap Elimination match, which was also made a no-disqualification rules match during the Night Of Champions Kickoff Show.

Reason Cena Missed WWE Live Event, News On SummerSlam PPV Kickoff Match

-While details aren’t exactly clear at this point, the reason John Cena missed the WWE live event in Oakland, California on Sunday night was because of transportation issues.

As noted, the fans in Oakland were offered refunds due to Cena’s absence.

-Due to the fact that WWE Divas will be part of the already scheduled mixed-tag match for the SummerSlam pay-per-view (Dolph Ziggler & Kaitlyn vs. Big E. Langston & AJ Lee), it is likely that the Maria Menounos and Natalya vs. Brie Bella and a mystery partner (or Nikki Bella, if she is cleared in time) match will be on the PPV kick-off show.

There is a good chance that the Menounos match will be mentioned on RAW at some point tonight.

Dolph Ziggler On Wrestlers Warning Him About His Style, Losing Momentum In WWE

WWE Superstar Dolph Ziggler recently appeared on the “Between The Ropes” radio show with Brian Fritz. Below are highlights from their discussion:

On wrestlers telling him his style will lead to serious injuries down the line: “I’ve been pulled aside by legends and guys backstage and being told that I put my body through too much sometimes. I understand that, but I’m out there in the ring trying to give the best possible performance I can. I can’t not run into something as hard as I can. I can’t not give my all. And one day that could be a problem, but so far I’ve never been injured to where I was out for weeks from anything I’ve done.”

On why he wrestles the hard-nosed style that he does: “I got kicked in the head one time and, like you said, it was a fluke, and every other thing I’ve done I put my body on the line because I want to because I want this crowd to go ‘ooh’ and ‘ahh’ and ‘Wow, we’ve got to get behind this guy.’ I go there to prove to myself that I’m going to work harder than everyone else and I always will.”

On losing momentum after suffering a concussion: “I feel like before the concussion we were finally starting to get some momentum. I was the only guy in this business who had a girlfriend and a giant bodyguard ringside with me and would still lose every night. As we were starting to work together and actually piece together some wins, I started to feel this is how a faction works. Just then, I got the concussion and I think that set back a few things and put in motion that maybe it’s time everyone goes their separate ways.”
