RVD Finishing Up With WWE This Week, What Happened After Battleground

-The official WWE website has a new article up that alludes to the possibility that Rob Van Dam may be “taking some time off” from WWE action following his World Heavyweight Championship loss to Alberto Del Rio at WWE Battleground. The WWE.com article states the following:

“Now, with the golden losses beginning to pile up, a source has indicated that the ECW Original is considering taking some time off. While WWE.com cannot confirm or deny this rumor at this time, it will be interesting to see whether further details will come to light tonight on Monday Night Raw.”

Van Dam is working on a 3-month short-term deal and will be taking an unspecified amount of time off before he returns for another 90 days.

-After the WWE Battleground pay-per-view ended on Sunday night, both Daniel Bryan and Randy Orton eventually got back to their feet after being knocked out by Big Show. Bryan hit his running knee finisher on Orton, and that was about it. Justin Roberts thanked everyone for coming, and reminded the fans that WWE will be returning to the First Niagra Center in Buffalo for a live event in January.

How Did “Dolphins1925” Do With WWE Battleground Predictions?, Possible Swerve

The infamous Reddit user, Dolphins1925, again had an impressive series of predictions for Sunday’s WWE Battleground event. Dolphins predicted victories for Dolph Ziggler, Alberto Del Rio, Curtis Axel, AJ Lee, The Rhodes Family, Bray Wyatt and CM Punk, all of whom won their matches at Sunday’s pay-per-view.

Where things got interesting was the WWE Championship main event between Randy Orton and Daniel Bryan. Dolphins predicted Orton would win, but also noted that there would be a “twist to the match.”

According to one source, WWE may have swerved their employees on the finish of the match specifically because of the recent gambling situation and PPV leaks issue, informing them only of the storyline plan for Big Show to knockout Bryan to assist Orton in victory.

What happened after that is anyone’s guess, but some claim WWE only informed a select few who were actually going to be physically involved in the match that Big Show would also be knocking out Orton, leading to the non-finish everyone saw at the end of the show.

Boxing Champion Floyd Mayweather Wins WrestleMania-Related Lawsuit

Boxing champion Floyd Mayweather won a lawsuit against a music producer who claimed he illegally used a song of his during his WrestleMania 24 ring entrance, when he squared off against WWE Superstar Big Show in one of the main events of the evening.

The music producer, Anthony Lawrence Dash, sued Mayweather in 2010, claiming Mayweather did not have the rights to use the song at the annual wrestling pay-per-view. Dash sued Mayweather, WWE and others for a reported $150,000 in damages, but a judge recently ruled in Mayweather’s favor.

According to the ruling, Dash was not entitled to a cut of the profits from Mayweather’s use of the music, as he couldn’t prove Mayweather, or WWE, made any money off of the song.

WWE Suffers Legal Setback In Lawsuit By Former Producer

PR-BG.com posted the following announcement today about WWE suffering a legal setback in the ongoing lawsuit filed by a former WWE producer:

WWE TOSSED FROM FEDERAL COURT

World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) was thrown for a loss last week when the United States District Court in Arizona rejected WWE’s efforts to transfer a lawsuit filed by one of its former road producers to the federal court.

On September 18th, United States District Judge G. Murray Snow, held that the lawsuit, filed against WWE and star wrestler Paul Wight, known as “Big Show,” should be returned to the Maricopa County Superior Court in Phoenix, Arizona, where it was originally filed in April 2013.

The suit charges that WWE road producer Andrew Green suffered damages when Big Show attacked him, without provocation, as Mr. Green was trying to arrange to have Big Show appear for a scheduled on-camera interview.

That assault was captured on videotape and posted by WWE on the Internet. WWE moved the lawsuit to the federal court in Arizona shortly after it was filed, claiming that the allegations by Green involved issues of federal copyright law.

Green and his wife, through their counsel, Hartley Bernstein, disagreed, arguing that the claims against WWE and Big Show centered on the injuries suffered by Green as a result of the assault, and the mental harm, humiliation and emotional injury he suffered when the video was placed on the Internet. In rejecting WWE’s efforts to move the case into federal court, Judge Snow held that the rights Green (and his wife) are struggling to protect are “freedom from ridicule and emotional distress,” which are “{qualitatively different from copyright rights.”

He went on to explain that “this additional element of emotional harm, due not to unauthorized use but widespread humiliation, changes the nature of the action from a copyright claim to a separate state-law tort claim.”

The Greens are represented by Hartley Bernstein of the New York law firm, Bernstein Cherney LLP and George Mueller of the Mueller Law Group, P.A. in Phoenix Arizona.

Big Show Talks HHH’s Regime, Dolph Ziggler Talks Surviving Ups & Downs In WWE

-In addition to the new Triple H video interview posted on WWE.com today, the official WWE website has also added a mostly in-character interview with The Big Show. As far as why he can’t fight back against Triple H’s “new regime”, Big Show said,

“There are guys in the locker room who look up to me and they want me to turn loose, they want me to help lead the charge. I don’t know how to express it to them any other way: I’m not in a position now where I can do that. I have things that are personal and important to me that I’m responsible for.”

Check out the complete Big Show interview online at WWE.com.

-WWE Superstar Dolph Ziggler recently spoke with MLive about maintaining and staying positive through the ups and downs of his pro wrestling career. Ziggler stated:

“I love this, I love doing this. I have no desire to switch companies or go to UFC or anything like that. I’m very ambitious, and I’m very outspoken about where I should be and where I need to be in the WWE. I love that I’ve never been one handed anything – ever. If I would’ve have been handed things, I don’t know if I would’ve been able to enjoy it as much. Every time I turn a corner, it seems like the rug is being taken underneath me. It’s like ‘Hey, great job!’ and then nothing. It’s like ‘Hey, wow, look what you can do!’ and I’ll say ‘Thanks, boss!’ and then there’s nothing. And so, it’s hard (to stay upbeat), but you have to deal with it and it makes me hungrier every single day knowing that I’ve scratched and clawed for everything I’ve earned in this business.”

With John Cena on the shelf for the remainder of 2013, this will likely be the main event finish on the “A” live events from WWE going forward.

Jim Ross Blog: SummerSlam Predictions, Big Show’s Return, Lesnar/Punk

Jim Ross updated the blog section of his website following Monday’s SummerSlam “go-home” edition of WWE RAW. Below are highlights:

On final SummerSlam hype on RAW: “Good focus on the two, primary ‘money matches’ for Summer Slam Monday night on RAW. Fans can only retain and process X amount of info and the two matches that most fans perceive will drive the PPV got ample attention.”

On HHH as special ref for the SummerSlam main event: “Adding HHH as the special referee to the John Cena vs. Daniel Bryan WWE Title bout is an intriguing ‘wrinkle.’ This development adds a provocative element to the already anticipated bout that is now even more unpredictable. There are several moving parts at play in this bout that I can’t begin to intelligently analyze. (Make your own joke on that one.)”

On his prediction for the winner of the SummerSlam main event: “I’ve thought for a while that Daniel Bryan will win the WWE title at Summer Slam but now I’m not as convinced. However, I’ll dance with who ‘brung’ me. In non Okie talk, that means that I’m sticking with my original thought…Bryan wins.”

On how Vince McMahon and Randy Orton play into the main event picture at SummerSlam: ” Where MITB winner Randy Orton, Referee HHH, the McMahon Family, injuries, etc fit on this ride is anyone’s guess. I’m curious as to all these potential scenarios that I’ll get to watch live inside the Staples Center from the 2K Sports suite.”

On the Brock Lesnar vs. CM Punk match at SummerSlam: “Thought the ending to RAW with CM Punk getting the upper hand on BROCK LESNAR (in Happy Heyman’s voice) and the Meyer Lansky of the WWE himself was compelling. I Tweeted a few days ago @JRsBBQ that I felt like this bout would be the most physical, one on one match in the WWE thus far this year. I am anxious to see how this match is competed stylistically. I’m still of the belief that it could end in a submission or a stoppage. I’m a Lesnar lean on this main event bout.”

On Big Show’s physical appearance during his return at RAW: “How great did Big Show look Monday night? I was impressed and know how diligently that he has been training and adjusting his diet. Bravo to the big guy who, when on a recruiting visit, enjoyed a home cooked meal in our then Connecticut home, broke a dining room tile (Dang, Italian tile, anyway :)) and we closed the deal over my wife’s homemade biscuits and a heaping helping of apple butter.”

WWE House Show Results (8/11): Oakland, Calif. – Cena Absent, Big Show Returns

The following are results from the WWE live event in Oakland, California. The event took place on Sunday, August 11, 2013.

-Before the show began, WWE ring announcer Justin Roberts announced to the live crowd that WWE Champion John Cena would not be appearing on the show tonight as scheduled. He then informed the fans that they could receive refunds if they wished. Cena was scheduled to compete in a Champion vs. Champion match on the show against Alberto Del Rio. Due to his absence, WWE RAW GM Brad Maddox came out and announced a Battle Royal to open the show, where the winner would take Cena’s spot in a match against World Heavyweight Champion Del Rio.

-The Big Show won a #1 Contender Battle Royal. The show opened with the Battle Royal for a shot at Del Rio’s World Heavyweight Championship. Big Show made his return, to the surprise of the fans in Oakland. The match also featured Rob Van Dam, The Shield, The Miz, Mark Henry, Ryback, Christian, R-Truth, Justin Gabriel, The Usos and Wade Barrett. It came down to the final four, which were Show, Henry, Barrett and Ryback. In the end, Show eliminated Ryback to win the match.

-Kane defeated Luke Harper via Disqualification when the rest of the Wyatt Family interfered. Kane cleaned house of all Wyatt Family members, but Bray Wyatt had a big smile on his face, seemingly enjoying it.

-Kaitlyn defeated Alicia Fox. Typical Divas match. Nothing out of the ordinary here. This was kept relatively short, with Kaitlyn picking up the victory over Fox via clean pinfall after hitting her with the spear.

-Rob Van Dam defeated Ryback via pinfall. Was said to be a very physical match. Ryback played his heel role well, garnering a lot of heat from the fans in the arena. In the end, Van Dam picked up the clean pinfall victory over Ryback after hitting him with his Five Star Frog Splash finisher.

-Mark Henry & The Usos defeated The Shield via pinfall. The finish came when Henry hit Seth Rollins with the World’s Strongest Slam for the 1-2-3. The crowd seemed to be heavily into The Usos, possibly due to Jimmy Uso’s exposure on Total Divas every Sunday night.

-Curtis Axel (with Paul Heyman) defeated The Miz to retain the WWE Intercontinental Championship. Heyman interfered towards the end of the match while Miz had the figure-four leglock applied on Axel. As the referee was checking on Axel, Heyman scraped Miz’s eyes to break the hold. This led to Axel hitting his finisher on Miz for the 1-2-3.

-Big Show defeated Alberto Del Rio via Disqualification. Big Show earned the right to challenge Del Rio by winning the Battle Royal in the beginning of the show. Show won via DQ, but this of course means he did not win the title. Del Rio was DQ’d after bringing a chair into the ring.

-Daniel Bryan defeated Randy Orton in a No-Disqualification Match. The finish here came when Bryan powerslammed Orton through a table. This match went extremely long, as it ran nearly 25 minutes. The crowd loved every minute of it. Was said to be the best match on the card.
