Goldberg On A Recent Talk He Had With Triple H, WWE Possibly Inducting Him

Wrestling legend Bill Goldberg recently spoke with Sports Illustrated’s Extra Mustard blog. Below are some highlights from the interview.

On never being one to back down from a fight, even with Vince McMahon: “[Hulk] Hogan once said to me, ‘Hey brother, you’re going to have to play the game. If Vince calls you in the middle of the night to get on a plane, you’re going to have to do it.’ I said to him, ‘You obviously don’t know me.’”

On Sting getting him into the business: “Sting was the guy who changed my mind. He and Lex Luger used to own a gym called Main Event Fitness in Atlanta. When I was with the Falcons, I used to work out there. I would have never imagined in a trillion years that I would have followed this path, but what made the decision realistic for me was the way Sting carried himself. When I met Sting, and observed him leading his family, business, and social life, it was completely different than what I’d ever seen in the past. I thought, ‘You know what? I can do this.’ So I bought thousands of dollars of old tapes trying to perfect moves that nobody had ever done before. I saw something that I liked, then I’d change it and make it my own.”

On WWE trying to dismiss his impact on wrestling: “That’s the way I feel. I’m surely not going to be somebody who pounds his chest and professes I was somebody who couldn’t be replaced, but I think I made a difference. For that character, nobody could do it better. So to not get the credit for the impact that I helped make is frustrating.”

On a recent talk with Triple H: “I had a conversation with Paul [Levesque] recently and I said, ‘Listen, I’m willing to put everything aside. If you guys want to sit down and make some money and have some fun, then let’s do it. My son wants to see me wrestle, and I’m willing to put all the bad feelings aside. If you guys want to move forward and do this thing the right way, then let’s talk.’ And that’s the way it ended. There’s nothing there. Truthfully, I don’t even think they want me to come, period. I’m just not one of them. The fact that I’m not far outweighs the financial gain, which they truly may not even believe is there. And I’m good with that. I’m absolutely fine with that.”

On WWE possibly inducting him into the WWE Hall Of Fame: “I don’t have a time limit and age is just a number for me. If the Hall of Fame presents itself, then I’ll do it in a heartbeat. But it’s not something where I sit here and go, ‘Man, I wish the WWE would induct me in the Hall of Fame.’ I don’t think about what I would say in my speech or who would induct me. I don’t think about that, by no stretch of the imagination.”

Goldberg Talks About An In-Ring Return, Has Comments For Scott Steiner & More

Wrestling legend Bill Goldberg recently spoke with Raj Giri of WrestlingInc.com to promote his appearance at the Legends of Wrestling event on June 7th at Citi Field in Queens, New York.

On what it would take for him to return to the ring: “A hell of a lot of money. One hell of a sit-down meeting with me about the complete details of how they plan on doing it. With the option on the table of me doing it myself, that’s pretty nice.”

On running his own wrestling show for his in-ring return: “I would never run a promotion in this business, no. It’d be a one-time card, a special event.”

On his Scott Steiner promo, which you can see above: “He [Steiner] said some stuff about me, typical stuff, promos. Trying to goad me into this and that. Like I said, if he has anything to say, I’ll save a seat for him right next to me.”

On his opinion of Steiner: “I loved working with him, he’s awesome. I love everything he does with the Big Poppa Pump deal, it’s great.”

Tickets are available for Goldberg’s appearance at the Legends of Wrestling event on June 7th at Citi Field in Queens, New York at Mets.com.

Bill Goldberg To Take Part In Ford City 500 At Bristol Motor Speedway

Former WWE and WCW Superstar Bill Goldberg will be delivering the driver instructions at the Ford City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway.

Goldberg recalled that it was a WCW appearance at the same speedway years ago that ignited his passion for motor sports.

“I was standing in the pits wearing an ugly purple WCW shirt,” Goldberg told the Johnson City Press.

“Grissom was driving that ugly (No. 29) car around the track, but it gave us an opportunity to get out there. It started a passion for me that hasn’t died down yet.”

“I’m very lucky,” he continued. “I try to look at it like what I’ve done in the past is in the past. I try to do something new every day.”

Bill Goldberg Explains Why He Feels Vince McMahon & Triple H Have “Great Disdain” For Him

Bill Goldberg recently spoke with Steven Muehlhausen of the SportingNews.com. During the interview, Goldberg explained why he feels Triple H and Vince McMahon have “great disdain” for him.

Below is an excerpt from the interview, which you can listen to in full above.

“I think there’s great disdain for me because I wasn’t one of their boys because I didn’t want to play there game because I felt like I was part of the team and all I needed to do was come in and play my part and I didn’t have to fraternize and just play that game. I came from the NFL. I wanted to treat this as a business and I’m going to come in, so my thing and leave. I didn’t take things personally until they brought it to a personal level. I think that was cheesy and I think its carnish. Its like being a carny. I just chose not to deal with it because life’s too short. I don’t want to have to look over my shoulder for my boss. That’s ridiculous, I’m 48 years old. I’m not a kid. I don’t need to crawl back to anybody for anything. I’ll dig a ditch before I do that. I had a lot of fun digging ditches.”

WWE On Legends Possibly Returning For WrestleMania Match, Reigns’ WM31 Workout Video

– As reported earlier this week, WWE is looking at bringing some legends back for a match at next year’s WrestleMania 32 pay-per-view to help fill Cowboys Stadium and set the all-time attendance record. Today, WWE’s official website is running a poll asking fans which legend they would like to see have one more match at WrestleMania. The options are Steve Austin, Shawn Michaels, Bill Goldberg, The Rock, Hulk Hogan, Batista, Kurt Angle, Jeff Hardy, Vince McMahon, Lita, Trish Stratus or The Dudley Boyz.

With over 2,000 votes cast as of this writing, Stone Cold is leading the pack with 30 percent of the vote. Trailing Austin are Goldberg (21%), Shawn Michaels (13%) and Kurt Angle and Jeff Hardy, both of whom have eight percent of the votes. You can vote on the poll at WWE.com.

Brock Lesnar Owes WWE An Additional Date?, News On Crowd Reaction To Roman Reigns

There is speculation that Brock Lesnar may legally owe WWE an additional appearance due to the fact that he walked out without appearing on the February 23rd edition of RAW as scheduled. As noted, Lesnar walked out after a business “blow-up” with Vince McMahon.

Lesnar’s current deal with WWE is set to expire following the post-WrestleMania 31 edition of RAW. As of right now, he is advertised to work the RAW in Pittsburgh on March 9th, the RAW in Los Angeles on March 23rd and the aforementioned post-WrestleMania 31 edition of RAW. The only date Lesnar could work to make up the show he walked out on would be the RAW in Des Moines on March 16th. As things stand currently, he has not been added to that show.

Despite all of the uncertainty surrounding Lesnar’s future, the belief among many within WWE is that there is still a good chance that he will end up re-signing with the company when his current contract expires.

Regarding the Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns main event for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 31, there’s a feeling that with the “smart fan” WrestleMania crowd, Reigns, who hasn’t been getting cheered as much as WWE would have liked by now in recent weeks, may end up being a wildly popular babyface if word spreads that Lesnar is leaving WWE for a UFC return after WrestleMania 31. A similar scenario played out back at WrestleMania XX between Bill Goldberg and Brock Lesnar, as the smart crowd knew both guys were leaving after WrestleMania, so it immediately made both guys nuclear level heels to the Madison Square Garden fans.

  • Top Five Biggest Stars In Wrestling Who Weren’t Good Workers

David Arquette is a former WCW World Heavyweight Champion. Being a World Champion normally means you’re a big star. Vince Russo was a former World Champion. The Great Khali is a former World Heavyweight Champion. Just so we understand each other, these guys, in my opinion, are not among the biggest stars in the history of pro wrestling.

    Do we understand the formula?

Today, we are going to look at five legends of the ring who were without a doubt top stars in their prime. At one point or another, each person on this list could be considered “the guy” in the business. All were top stars who reached Championship-level success at one time or another, however they all shared one key factor in common — they pretty much sucked in the ring.

A lot of people have different ideas of what a “good worker” really is. Generally speaking, if you’re in the business, a good worker is someone who can take the live crowd on an emotional journey. Most of the people on this list were able to do that, however if you’re a die-hard fan of the sport, you have a different opinion of what a “good worker” is. To those people, a good worker is someone who took the time to perfect the craft, the art and skill of what goes on inside the squared circle. Guys who have matches that are considered “match of the year” candidates. Guys who could have what die-hard fans call “five-star matches.”

That is who we are looking at today. Guys who by die-hard fan standards would be considered god-awful workers. Guys who couldn’t have a classic, five-star match to save their life, even if they’re able — usually due to star power and enthusiasm — to pop a crowd during a match.

With all of thr explanation out of the way, let’s take a look at who made the list of the top five biggest stars who weren’t good workers.

    #5. Hulk Hogan

The guy knows how to have a classic match. His WrestleMania VI clash with Ultimate Warrior, who we’ll be talking about later, surprised many. Still, if you examine the match with your “worker” glasses on you’ll notice that it wasn’t exactly a catch-as-catch-can classic by any means.

It was a great match though in the sense that the crowd was totally invested. A lot of that had to do with the promotional build-up to the match and the characters involved. The same can be said for Hogan vs. The Rock at WrestleMania X8.

A Ric Flair vs. Ricky Steamboat classic it was not.

But the response from the fans was about as passionate as things get. Hogan can have great matches when everything falls into place, but you can’t put just anybody in the ring with him and expect a great match. As far as his star-power is concerned, Hogan is one of — if not the biggest — stars in the history of the sport.

Hulk Hogan comes in at number five.

    #4. Andre the Giant

Andre The Giant is one of the biggest and most recognizable stars in professional wrestling history. In his prime as a young wrestler he would come off of the top-rope, he could throw a pretty impressive dropkick and was a lot more agile than he became later in his career.

Most will remember the run Andre The Giant had in WWE in the 1980s, but prior to that he was actually a pretty solid in-ring worker. His most famous years, however, saw a number of rest-holds killing the majority of the time in his matches. It was almost a sure thing that there would be a few bear-hugs, nerve-grip holds and the ever-popular butt-smash in the corner spot.

So again, Andre wasn’t the best in-ring technician, but he was a huge star — literally — and could elicit a great reaction from the crowd from bell-to-bell when matched with the right guy.

Regardless, Andre comes in at number four.

    #3. Kevin Nash

Outside of a few matches with Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels, Kevin Nash, better known to WWE-exclusive fans as “Diesel,” rarely had a match above a two-star rating. He was one of the first workers to be labeled as a guy with “five moves of doom,” long before that torch was passed to John Cena.

However, Nash was a big ingredient in the pro wrestling explosion of the late 1990s. His move to WCW, which led to the formation of the nWo, was arguably the jumping-off point of the Monday Night Wars, which ultimately led to WWE’s “Attitude Era.” WWE was forced to switch gears and change the way they do business, and Nash, along with Scott Hall, were two key players at the root of all of these changes.

Despite his importance level in the business, his work level earns him the bronze medal as one of the biggest stars who wasn’t a “good worker.”

  • Which WWE Superstar Will End Bo Dallas’ Undefeated Streak?

As of the July 25th episode of WWE Smackdown, Bo Dallas is undefeated after 17 straight wins. This of course does not include the brief time Dallas spent on the main roster after appearing in the 2013 Royal Rumble match. Dallas had a successful run with his “BOlieve” gimmick in NXT and is off to a great start with it on the main roster. WWE is clearly building up Dallas’ winning streak, which makes one wonder. Who will be the one to end Dallas’ undefeated streak?

One possible scenario could see another newcomer be the ruiner of Dallas’ streak. If WWE decides to give Rusev an even bigger push, the Bulgarian Brute could defeat Dallas on his path to the main event scene. However, Rusev is already doing his own thing right now. He and Lana are gaining a lot of heat in their feud with Jack Swagger thanks largely to controversial promos given by Rusev’s manager.

    sami-zayn

However, another newcomer, perhaps one from NXT, would be more interesting to end Dallas’ undefeated streak. Sami Zayn is the most likely in this scenario. Zayn and Dallas had a great rivalry in NXT and would give the WWE Universe a Kurt Angle-Tazz like scenario. If you recall, Kurt Angle was on an undefeated streak when he first debuted in WWE. However, that streak would end by another debuting star in Tazz at the 2000 Royal Rumble. Zayn is a fan favorite in NXT and it seems like it is only a matter of time until he reaches the main roster.

While having a similarly new superstar be the one to end Dallas’ nice run, WWE can also look at current or past veterans to do the dirty work. One past star who is well known for having a lengthy undefeated streak is Goldberg. While his streak occurred in WCW, a Goldberg return would certainly be welcomed by the WWE Universe. In fact, Goldberg is open to the return as well. He’s just not so sure Triple H, Vince McMahon and WWE want to see the return.

Goldberg is not the only veteran WWE should consider. Consider Sami Zayn Plan A and Goldberg Plan B. There’s always Plan C.

    paul-heyman-brock-lesnar-undertaker-wrestlemania-streak-ses-1

Brock Lesnar is Plan C. If you think about it, Dallas is coming close to a special number. Four more wins until 21. It wouldn’t be too surprising to see Lesnar become the one in 21-1 yet again.  Of course it would mean something very different when defeating Bo Dallas versus doing it to the Undertaker’s historic WrestleMania streak. If Cesaro was still a Paul Heyman guy and he became the one in 21-1 against Bo Dallas, it would help light the flame in his own feud with Lesnar.

If I had to make a prediction, I would say that another new superstar debuts and ends Dallas’ undefeated streak. Dallas has a lot of momentum and the end to his streak has to live up to the hype. Let’s hope WWE doesn’t ruin it with someone like Kofi Kingston. No offense Kofi, but it was pretty disappointing when you ended Cesaro’s long reign as U.S. Champion. Dallas’ streak can be used to build up and give momentum to someone else. Use it wisely.

Who do you think will end Bo Dallas’ undefeated streak? Sami Zayn, Goldberg, Brock Lesnar or someone else? Please share your thoughts in the comment section below.

  • Goldberg Says He Would Wrestle For WWE Again

Former WWE & WCW Superstar Bill Goldberg was Jim Ross’ guest on this week’s Ross Report podcast. When asked if he would consider wrestling one more match, Goldberg said he’s open to it if the money is right. He still hits the gym 5 days a week, stays in great shape and would want his young son see him wrestle live at least once.

“My last conversation with WWE brass, which was a while ago, was to the effect of I have a seven-year-old son who would love to see me wrestle and whatever differences we’ve had in the past, if you guys want to make some money and do this again, then I’d then be willing to talk about it. That is my answer.”

When asked who his ideal opponent would be, Goldberg named Brock Lesnar, Triple H and Roman Reigns.

“Hunter and I will always have unfinished business until the day I die,” Goldberg said, regarding to their behind-the-scenes issues from Goldberg’s WWE run over a decade ago.

“Brock and I have unfinished biz in the ring,” a reference to their infamous match at WrestleMania 20.

Goldberg named Roman Reigns due to their mutual backgrounds playing college football in Georgia.

“Whoever it is, I don’t care,” Goldberg said. “As long as it makes sense, then I’m in for it.”

Former WWE and WCW Superstar Bill Goldberg spoke with PWInsider.com prior to WrestleMania XXX earlier this month. When asked about the rumors of him returning to WWE and possibly facing Ryback, Goldberg said that he did have a few talks with Triple H, but none of them were specifically geared towards working with Ryback.

Regarding the possibility of a WWE return, Goldberg stated the following:

“Would I love to do it again and have my son and my wife, who has never seen me wrestle? Abso-damn-lutely. Would I jeopardize what I’ve done in the wrestling world just to make that happen? No. So if I wasn’t ready to do it, physically ready to do it, and it wasn’t the right situation, I wouldn’t do it just to do it. If that was the case, I’d probably be at WrestleMania this year. It just has to be right and if it’s not right, then I’m retired, for good.”
