NXT Stars Reportedly Nervous After Damon Kemp Exit

Damon Kemp, aka Bobby Steveson, is one of the recent NXT exits and a new report states that there is a current concern amongst the roster at what their future may hold for them.

According to Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the exit of Steveson has prompted nervousness amongst the young stars in the Capitol Wrestling Center. While there were some recent exits with NXT ties including Steveson’s brother Gable and Dijak, WWE saying goodbye to Bobby hits a different tone. The former Damon Kemp was overall considered a good worker and had no issues backstage. To many, his exit could be indicative to the roster that they could also be on the chop block and nobody, aside from the prominent names on brand, is safe.

Gable Steveson was let go by WWE this spring due to his lack of development in the ring as well as attitude problems. However, his brother was a featured talent on the show, being apart of Diamond Mind and later aligning with Charlie Dempsey and the No Quarter Catch Crew.

Gable may be the most celebrated Olympic wrestler since Kurt Angle and the 1996 Olympics. Angle was high and above Steveson in the pro wrestling ring, both from a workrate standpoint and a major charisma standpoint.

Bobby Steveson may have plenty of cache in the pro wrestling world despite his WWE leave. The seasoned athlete is only 26 years old and could have opportunities in AEW or TNA.

WWE Adds New Wave Of PC Recruits Including Steveson & Joseph Fatu

WWE has announced a new wave of Performance Center recruits and there are a couple of key names.

United States Olympic gold medalist Gable Steveson has been the talk of both the wrestling and MMA communities. Steveson appeared during the SummerSlam event. WWE honored him for winning gold for the U.S. in wrestling. Steveson has expressed his desire to step inside a WWE as a member of the roster.

Steveson is indeed a part of the new wave of PC recruits, but it isn’t Gable. Instead, it’s his brother, Bobby. Bobby Steveson has wrestled at the University of Minnesota. This is the same university that Brock Lesnar and Shelton Benjamin attended.

Another interesting name on the list is Joseph Fatu. Fatu is the younger brother of Jimmy and Jey Uso. Joseph stands at 6’2, 240 pounds, and has played football in college.

Ben Buchanan has also been recruited. He is the son of former WWE star Bull Buchanan. Bull Buchanan wrestled in WWE from 1997-2003, winning tag team gold along the way. Ben was a wrestling champion at an Alabama state high school.

Here’s a full list of the Performance Center recruits.

WWE has been on a signing spree as they’ve signed over two dozen independent wrestlers and athletes.

Dave Meltzer reported in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Bobby Steveson is set to start working with WWE soon. He is a former University of Minnesota heavyweight amateur wrestler. Per the report, he’s slated to start with WWE with the next class of recruits as he’s been training at the WWE Performance Center as of late.

In 2017, he was an NCAA Qualifier and a two-time Letterwinner at the University of Minnesota.

He won his first two career open tournament appearances at the 2015 Cobber Open and the 2015 Buena Vista Open, and then finished runner-up at the 2015 UNI Open. In addition, he was a Redshirt Senior with an overall record of 4-3 for the 2019-2020 season.

His younger brother, Olympic heavyweight wrestling hopeful Gable Steveson, is expected to come to WWE after he finishes college.

Earlier this week, WWE announced the largest class of recruits in history. Thus, Steveson will likely be part of the next class in a few months.

Steveson has been backstage at a few different WWE shows as he documented on Instagram. He was with Triple H and Paul Heyman at a Raw show in August 2019 and even got the chance to meet  Brock Lesnar at a WWE live event on March 9, 2018 in Minneapolis:
