And I think it’s something that we need to do more than something that we have to do.”

    – Booker T, who participated in a conference call Thursday promoting Sunday’s Royal Rumble pay-per-view event as well as Saturday’s “Shooting Straight Panel” at US Airways Center on WCW and The Monday Night Wars, revealed plans for a second autobiography with Medallion Press covering his time in WCW and WWE. • Latest Names Being Considered For The WWE Hall Of Fame, Reaction To Chris Benoit’s WWE Encyclopedia Entry

    – With next year’s WWE Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony taking place at Madison Square Garden in New York City, the company plans to pay homage to the famous area.

Besides Mick Foley likely being enshrined, there is discussion of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, the Nasty Boys (Brian Knobbs and Jerry Sags) and Harlem Heat (Booker T and Stevie Ray) being inducted, according to F4WOnline.com. Johnson made his debut at the famous arena in 1996, while Harlem Heat was a New York-based gimmick. In the case of The Nasty Boys, who hail from Allentown, Pennsylvania, the two were billed from “The Streets of New York City” during their time in World Championship Wrestling.

Company officials would also like to honor Owen Hart, who defeated Bret Hart in a memorable WrestleMania match at Madison Square Garden in 1994. Despite the push for Owen, the enshrinement is unlikely to materialize because his widow would not allow it. Hart’s brother Smith revealed on Twitter earlier this year, “Because she blames the wrestling business in its entirety for his death. “She is the sole owner of his estate. With Martha, there will never B a way, perhaps his kids may eventually make the choice. But thats at least 20 yrs in future.”

Plus, Paul “Triple H” Levesque, WWE Executive Vice President of Talent and Live Events, is said to “desperately” want Bruno Sammartino enshrined, but it’s considered a long shot for a multitude of reasons.

    – Though WWE has attempted to distance themselves from Chris Benoit since his career and life ended in a murder–suicide on June 24, 2007, the recently released WWE Encyclopedia features a sizable entry on the late wrestler. According to F4WOnline.com, this move has many people in WWE “baffled,” with his entry taking up more than half of a page.

The bio acknowledges Benoit emulating Dynamite Kid after seeing compete when he was 12-years-old, training in Stu Harts’s famous Dungeon, wrestling all over the world, making a name for himself in WCW before jumping to WWE, and fulfilling his destiny when he captured the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania XX in a Triple Threat Match versus Triple H and Shawn Michaels. There is no acknowledgment of the double murder/suicide, though he is addressed in the past tense.

  • Booker T Talks About Barrett vs. Kingston At TLC, A Match He Wants To See At WM29 & More

Monday Night Mayhem (“Your Home Of Wrestling Radio”):
Heard Exclusively On The WrestleView Radio Network
Hosted By The Big Mosh & “The Chairman Of The Board” Todd Vincent

Booker T Discusses His Forthcoming First-Ever “All-Star Clinic,” Teaming Up With Devon & MVP As Part of This Project, Why He Classifies His Friendship With Both As Genuine, What He’s Learned Thus Far During His Run As SmackDown General Manager, Why He Would Like To See Brock Lesnar vs. Ryback Square Off At WrestleMania XXIX, WWE’s TLC Pay-Per-View, Why He Has His Eyes On The Intercontinental Championship Match Between Kofi Kingston & Wade Barrett At Tables, Ladders, & Chairs, A Personal Invitation To Jay-Z To Join Him At The Barclays Center In Brooklyn, Why The Royal Rumble Holds A Special Place In His Heart, If He Has Any Input Whether NXT Stars Are Called Up To The Active WWE Roster, What He Thinks It Takes To Make It In Professional Wrestling/Sports-Entertainment Today, Plus Much More In His Exclusive Monday Night Mayhem Interview

WWE SmackDown General Manager and former six-time World Heavyweight Champion, Booker T, was one of the featured guest on this past week’s edition of the award-winning Monday Night Mayhem. Booker T joined The Big Mosh and “The Chairman of the Board” Todd Vincent for his return to “Your Home of Wrestling Radio.”

Listen Here: Booker T On Monday Night Mayhem (.MP3)

Interview highlights courtesy of WWEDVDNews.com’s Aaron Carnevale, MNM’s official contributor:

The reason for him creating his first-ever “All-Star Clinic” and what the experience is going to be like for those who take part in it this Friday in Houston: “It’s going to be a seven-hour clinic that is going to provide three different perspectives from guys (MVP & Devon) who have actually been there. A lot of times these young guys who try to get into the business go to independent shows for independent promoters. They finish working their match, and the promoter can’t tell them if they did good or bad, because he doesn’t know. So we’re trying to give a ‘carpentry perspective’ to the business again as far as teaching the guys the insight to what we do.”

Why he has his eyes on the Intercontinental Championship Match between Wade Barrett vs. Kofi Kingstonat WWE’s TLC: Tables, Ladders, & Chairs Pay-Per-View: “You know, I got to give Kofi Kingston a lot of credit. He hasn’t been one of the guys I had on my radar, but he has actually come into his own. Now with this situation with Wade Barrett, he is going to have a chance to really go out there and show how good he really is. That is what this thing is about.”

The one match he would personally like to see take place at WrestleMania XXIX next April and why fans would get their “money’s worth” if it happens: “The match I would want to see at WrestleMania this year would be two bulls locking horns. It would be something great for the fans, and it would be an extravaganza. It would be Ryback vs. Brock Lesnar. That would be the match for me, just because Ryback is mowing through the competition. Brock Lesnar has been a guy who has went by his ‘Modus Operandi’ pretty much the same way, just running through guys. To see those guys meet head-to-head at WrestleMania would be a WrestleMania where people would get their money’s worth.”

Much more is contained in Booker T’s exclusive interview with Monday Night Mayhem, including his candid thoughts on teaming up with Devon & MVP as part of his “All-Star Clinic,” why he classifies his friendship with both as genuine, his run as SmackDown General Manager, a personal invitation for Jay-Z for WWE’s TLC: Tables, Ladders, & Chairs Pay-Per-View in Brooklyn, why the Royal Rumble will always hold a special place in his heart, if he has any input whether NXT stars are called up to the active WWE roster, what he thinks it takes to make it in professional wrestling/sports-entertainment today, plus so much more

  • Booker T Offers His Thoughts On The Late Chris Benoit, Rene Dupree Resurfaces, Meet The Prime Time Players

    – Speaking to Inside Wrestling, Booker T was asked for comment on the late Chris Benoit after working closely with him for a number of years. The SmackDown General Manager is asked how he separates Benoit’s wrestling accomplishments and friendship with him from the horrible event that occurred in 2007.

“I separate them because I have to,” said Booker. “You can’t put the two together. I think of the Chris I knew on the road and in Japan, eating the frickin’ noodles, traveling and working together for years. I can’t put those two people together because I really think the two were different people at the time. We’ll never know what happened, and that’s the thing: We don’t know. The brain is a fragile machine, because you can live with a person for 30 years and then they kill you one day.”

    – After recently returning to North America, Rene Dupree competed in his first match in the United States since leaving WWE on Saturday in Rahway, New Jersey for Pro Wrestling Syndicate. He lost a Four-Way match, which also featured Dan Maff, Devon Moore and the winner, The Dynamic Sensation.

Dupree competed in Japan and Europe during his time away from North America. Though still muscular, he has since lost a considerable amount of weight.

    – The Prime Time Players, Darren Young and Titus O’Neil, appear at Cricket Communications in Dayton, Ohio, on Saturday beginning at 4:00 p.m.

  • Booker T Recalls Giving Batista A “Pretty Good Beating” During 2006 Fist Fight On Set Of WWE Commercial Shoot

Speaking to Fighting Spirit Magazine (available at FightingSpiritMagazine.co.uk), Booker T recalled his physical altercation with Batista on May 8, 2006 at a commercial photo shoot in Encino, California for that year’s SummerSlam pay-per-view event.

Batista, who rose to main event status in a relatively short period of time, was already unpopular within the locker room due to his lack of respect for those who came before him coupled with a sense of entitlement. That day, Booker T took issue with The Animal’s poor demeanor.

According to eyewitness reports, Booker T challenged Batista to “[go] into an empty room and go for it.” The two fought for approximately five minutes in the room, with Booker T dominating the muscle-bound wrestler. After the two were separated by fellow wrestlers, Batista snuck in one last sucker punch on Booker T just as he did immediately after the decorated wrestler closed the door to signal the start of fray.

Finlay, who was among the wrestlers who broke up the brawl, said during an earlier interview with the publication that the story was blown out of proportion. Booker T disagreed with his assessment.

“It wasn’t blown out of proportion. He took a pretty good beating,” said the SmackDown General Manager.

“The thing is, when you’re in a fight, it’s different from an MMA fight. That’s the thing with me. I’ve fought my whole life. You don’t just call a person out to a fight if you don’t know their background, what they’ve been through, and how to test them. That was his mistake, and I think it was definitely a case of him underestimating me, and thinking he was the bigger guy. For me fighting is in the blood, and it’s something I grew up doing. Honestly though, I hope Batista does well (in MMA), even just for the business’ sake.”

  • Booker T Talks About What’s Holding Dolph Ziggler Back From Main Events

WWE SmackDown general manager Booker T was a guest on the PWTorch Livecast radio show last Friday, which you can listen to at BlogTalkRadio.com.

One of the topics discussed was Dolph Ziggler’s standing with the company and why he has yet to reach the main-event level on a regular basis. Booker T says Ziggler’s got the tools to be headlining shows, but needs to be more selfish in the ring.

“One thing I tell him is he has to be more selfish” Booker said. “He needs to start thinking about himself a whole lot more. He thinks about the other guy he’s in the ring with way too much.”

Ziggler is known as one of the best bumpers in the business and always makes his opponents look great by ‘selling’ their moves. While that has certainly put him on the map as a promising up and coming talent, Booker T thinks he’ll be stuck in the upper mid-card if he doesn’t focus more on advancing his career.

“Until he starts doing that, he’s not going to get over like he should,” Booker said.

  • Booker T On Why He Doesn’t Want To Be Inducted Into The WWE Hall of Fame Yet, WCW Highlights, His TNA Run

Promoting his autobiography, From Prison to Promise: Life Before the Squared Circle, Booker T spoke to Joshua Modaberi of Wrestling101.com to discuss the book, his twenty-plus year career in professional wrestling and more. Highlights from the interview are as follows:

Being backstage on the night Jerry “The King” Lawler suffered a heart attack during Raw: “I was in the back watching on the monitor and then realised something wasn’t right and I’ll tell you it was scary and we just have to thank God Jerry is a strong man and a fit guy to pull through that, most guys his age wouldn’t have been able to pull through but Jerry Lawler has always been pretty straight laced, he’s never been a drinker, he’s always lived his life clean.

“The WWE doctors were right there and in the right position to take care of him, and when they brought him to the back I was only a few feet away and it was really scary seeing the doctors beating on his chest trying to keep him alive.”

His personal highlights in World Championship Wrestling: “Starting from the beginning and having Sherri Martel as our manager, and I think she was the greatest manager in the business, to having us under her wing definitely gave us the belief that we were legitimate stars because everybody Sherri had been with before us all of those guys were stars, so we just fell into good company.

“As for some of the matches as Television Champion, I had great matches with Chris Benoit and Fit Finlay, then going on to win the big one, the World Championship, against Jeff Jarrett, that was a highlight in my career. But there have been so many highlights in my career it is hard to single out one and say that was it. But to start off in WCW at the bottom of the totem pole and to finish off on the final night right at the top of the totem pole that gave me self-gratification.”

His two-year run with Total Nonstop Action Wrestling: “The way I would explain my time in TNA would be like a vacation, I was detoxing from the rigorous WWE schedule and the hours spent on the road. I just needed time to step back and not think about myself so much but try to help the next lot of guys coming up in the business. That’s what I went to TNA for, I was hoping to help the next generation of stars come up and it was great working with guys like Bobby Roode, AJ Styles and Samoa Joe and giving them some of my knowledge.

“However the company then started to focus on the older guys and my experience there was a good experience but I don’t feel I got as much out of it as I could have.”

Why he doesn’t want to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame until he reaches a certain age: “Yeah, that’s just my thing, I don’t think I’m ready for it, I’m not ready for the Hall of Fame yet. I’m not ready to make that walk, I’m not ready to make that speech yet, I really can’t tell you why because I’m not sure but do I think I have a ton of wrestling days left in me, no, that’s not it at all.

“I just think guys should reach a certain prestige before they get inducted into the Hall of Fame. People talk about what I’ve done in the business with all the accolades and the titles but I still think there is something left for me to do. Maybe it’s going to do a speaking tour, talking to kids in trouble and turning their lives around or some charity work. I’m just not ready for it just yet, and I want to be ready when it happens.”

Booker T also discusses the wrestlers who inspired him to become one himself, tag team wrestling, the major difference between WCW and WWE, working with “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, his role as General Manager of SmackDown, and his career highlight in WWE, among other topics. The full interview is available here.

  • WWE Reportedly Drops Two General Manager Storylines, Update On Pay-Per-View Countdown Shows, Tryouts

    – WWE’s ongoing storyline of SmackDown General Manager Booker T banning Sheamus’ Brogue Kick is being used at live events. At last night’s SmackDown show from Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, Booker T banned the kick for Sheamus’ street fight against Alberto Del Rio.

    – WWE NXT star Kassius Ohno tweeted the following about his discus elbow finishing move, which he’d dubbed, the “KO” –

“A Rolling Elbow minus the ‘roll’ is simply an elbow. Discus throwers spin in a circle to build momentum & increase power. The trick is maintaining accuracy as the elbow connects. If done right, the move is incredibly effective. Can’t fault someone for utilizing such a devastating maneuver. Besides, you never know where that certain someone may have picked up the technique. Tanaka? Misawa? Or… My dream is to carry on the legacy of the Elbow from Mitsuharu Misawa just as he carried it from Jumbo Tsuruta and brought it to new heights”

  • Booker T Talks About His New Book, Reliving Those Memories & More

SmackDown General Manager Booker T recently appeared on Extreme Pro Wrestling Radio on 100.3 FM KFAN in Minneapolis and spoke to hosts Big D & Crisco about the following topics:

HIS BOOK “FROM PRISON TO PROMISE”: “It wasn’t a struggle to write it but it was to read it back. It takes me down that road again! I hope it touches troubled youth and helps them feel, if Booker T can do it…so can I, thats the reason I wrote the book!”

IT WAS DIFFICULT TO RELIVE THE MEMORIES: “It was but it totally happend by accident. I took a trip to Newport & stayed on the beach. I stayed there for 3 months by myself & just reflected & all of these memories that I tried to hide & bury came flooding back! It was a real trip & I thought I really need to get all of this down on paper. I have always wanted to write a wrestling book, I ended up writing my life story! I cover where I come from, who I am, what builds my character, how did I end up being funny or so stupid at the same time! Everything I went thru built who I am, it made me way toughter than I ever thought I could be especially walking thru those prison walls. You never understand it until you’re looking it in the face & remember what my mother has always told me, you know right from wrong, and I knew I did wrong so I had to pay for it and go from there.”

DID YOU EVER WORRY HOW YOU WOULD BE VIEWED BY PEOPLE AFTER PUTTING THIS BOOK OUT: “Nah, you only live once & you cant worry about what people are gonna think about you after the fact or anything like that. That was my life, that is who I was and right now…I’m on a mission from God to help as many kids as I can before I leave this place we call earth. I have very little time to think about what someone thinks about me after writing this book!”

Booker T goes on to talk about what brought him from the comentator’s table to the GM office and who will take home the World Title @ Night Of Champions! Hear the entire interview here.

  • General Manager Storyline Plans, Devon’s Chances Of Joining WWE, Superstars

    – WWE is currently running storylines where both RAW and SmackDown’s General Managers are having major problems with their jobs. AJ Lee’s angle is that she’s unstable and incompetent, while Booker T is being sued by one of his announcers. There is speculation that the General Managers being unable to handle their brands will lead to Vince McMahon firing them both and bringing in a big name to both shows.

    – Matches for today’s WWE Superstars include:

    * Layla vs. Natalya
    * US Champion Antonio Cesaro vs. Justin Gabriel
    * Damien Sandow vs. Alex Riley
    * Tag Team Champions Kofi Kingston & R-Truth vs. Primo & Epico.

    – With Devon parting ways with TNA and expressing interest in returning to WWE, sources are not optimistic that he’ll get signed as a wrestler. WWE management was very fond of Devon back when he was one of the Dudley Boyz (more so than Bully Ray), but he has a much better chance of getting brought in as an agent or a trainer at developmental. Devon and Ray’s Team 3D wrestling academy has produced several promising young talents, so that will only help his chances of working behind the scenes.
