Backstage News On Chris Jericho’s Upcoming Feuds & PPV Matches

Following his return to WWE television last week and his angle with The Miz and The Wyatt Family, it appears Jericho has his next two pay-per-view opponents lined up.

Jericho, who is rumored to be facing The Miz on RAW, is currently slated to face The Miz at the upcoming Battleground pay-per-view.

From there, Jericho will continue his feud with The Wyatt Family, leading to a big match against Bray Wyatt at SummerSlam.

Jericho is currently committed to stay with WWE through September’s Night of Champions pay-per-view. It’s being said that the main objective of Jericho’s latest WWE run is to elevate Bray Wyatt before possibly taking another hiatus later this fall.

Bully Ray Headed Back To WWE?, Backstage News On WWE Title Situation

– It’s worth noting that as soon as WWE became aware that Daniel Bryan was going to have to be stripped of the WWE World Heavyweight Championship due to his neck issues, they immediately decided to put the belt on John Cena again. While Bray Wyatt may have been a popular candidate to win the Money In The Bank ladder match, he was never legitimately considered, as they already knew that they were going with Cena.

– Bully Ray noted during a recent Opie & Anthony radio appearance designed to promote TNA’s television tapings in New York City that he would jump-ship to WWE if given the opportunity. Bully mentioned that he would return to WWE in a “heartbeat” if Vince McMahon called him.

  • Details On Top Matches At SummerSlam, Daniel Bryan vs. Kane “Buried Alive” Plans

As noted previously, the top four matches planned for this year’s WWE SummerSlam pay-per-view include Brock Lesnar vs. John Cena for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, Roman Reigns vs. Randy Orton, Bray Wyatt vs. Chris Jericho and Stephanie McMahon vs. Brie Bella.

Another match that was originally under consideration for the show is a “Buried Alive” match between Daniel Bryan and Kane. That match is considered unlikely at this point, as it depends on Bryan’s condition, which doesn’t seem to be approving at a rate that would allow him to perform in time for SummerSlam.

It’s been noted in the past as well that WWE will be stacking the deck for Night Of Champions, the pay-per-view following SummerSlam, as that is when they will be needing something big to lure subscribers to the WWE Network, as their six-month subscriptions will be expiring at around that time.

  • Backstage News On Chris Jericho’s WWE Return: How Long Is He Back For?

Chris Jericho, who returned at Monday’s post-Money In The Bank edition of WWE RAW in Hartford, Connecticut, is reportedly worked into the creative plans through the Night Of Champions pay-per-view on September 21st.

Jericho, who always messes around with the internet fans, tried fooling people prior to RAW by posting photos on social media that showed him with his family, basically to try and throw people off.

It’s said that the working plan right now is for Chris Jericho vs. Bray Wyatt at SummerSlam, although there’s a chance they could work the Battleground pay-per-view as well, with SummerSlam being the followup and/or blow-off of the program.

  • Mick Foley Says Bray Wyatt Reminds Him Of Himself, Talks CM Punk/WWE & More

The following are highlights of a new USA Today “For The Win” interview with Mick Foley:

Do you miss performing in the ring, or does this show fill the void for you?

Mick Foley: That’s exactly what it does. I love it because performing on stage gives me a chance to feel all the things that I felt when I was in the ring… without the late-night emergency room visits. It’s the great upside without the physical beating that I used to take.

It’s a little bit like cutting a promo, isn’t it?

Yeah, yeah, I’m afraid there’s going to be a flood of guys going ‘wait a second! We’ve got stories too!’ There are times actually when I’ll go into promo mode. I’ll tell a story and the story will include a promo, and people really enjoy it because I had three distinct characters as a wrestler [Dude Love, Cactus Jack and Mankind]. They enjoy the idea that I can go into vintage 1997 Mankind, and it takes them back to their childhood when I terrified them.

Speaking of the late-night trips to the hospital, how do you feel, health-wise? Do you have any regrets about how hardcore your career was?

I’ll just coin the phrase from We’re the Millers. No regrets. R-A-G-R-E-T-S. If I said I regretted any of it, then I’d have to say I regretted all of it because the things I did made me who I was. I guess I could go and section off a certain time period where I wished I had the wisdom to call it quits earlier than I did. I wished I had resisted the urge to return, long after mother nature and father time rang their warning bell.

Which match do you consider your finest?

My finest match is probably in 2004 against Randy Orton at Backlash. It was a personal triumph for me, I had come back after four years out of the ring and I kind of let myself down. I had the perfect opportunity [before Backlash] in Madison Square Garden teaming up with The Rock against Evolution, and I just kind of dropped the ball. I didn’t give the performance that I should have, and the next month I came back and redeemed myself. It was a match of personal redemption. It’s not one that I talk about very often on stage, but that’s my personal favorite.

If you could book a match to headline WrestleMania, with any two wrestlers past and present, who would you choose?

I would like to see that Stone Cold Steve Austin vs. Hulk Hogan match. I’d like to see CM Punk and Stone Cold. I guess I’m saying I’d like to see Stone Cold make a return one last time. I’d like to see me and Hulk Hogan, just so I could say I did it.

Speaking of CM Punk, you two have a history. Do you think he’ll come back?

There’s no telling. He marches to the beat of his own drummer. I will say he doesn’t respond to me. I used to be able to reach out to him. I think he’s just cut off all communication with people from the business, and if he comes back, it’ll be on his own terms, and I respect that.

Who are your favorite wrestlers in the WWE right now? Is there anyone that reminds you of Mick Foley?

There are a few people. Bray Wyatt reminds me of myself. He’s one of my favorite guys. He’s really a mesmerizing interview, and he makes great use of his physical talents. He definitely makes the most out of his unusual frame. Love to hear him cut a promo. I love CM Punk’s work on the microphone and in the ring. Daniel Bryan has just been a phenomenon, I hope he heals up and comes back at 100%. Dolph Ziggler, he’s unheralded, hopefully he’ll get another run. There’s so many good wrestlers on the rise. I just saw an NXT match between Natalya Neidhart and Ric Flair’s daughter Charlotte that was just off the charts.

What’s the biggest problem WWE faces right now?

I think the biggest problem is letting the rest of the world catch up to them from a technological standpoint. This Network is so vastly different from anything that’s been attempted on such a major scale that not everyone has caught on. Like, I’m 49 and I have to have my 11-year-old get me on the Network. I can’t those two extra steps involved with an Xbox or a PlayStation. I patience will definitely be a virtue. There was a lot of stock speculation, as soon as I saw that drop I put my money where my mouth is and I bought a lot of stock. I’m bullish on WWE, so I may not agree with everything I see on TV but it’s a great company.

Any predictions for Money in the Bank next week?

I think if Bray Wyatt wins we’re looking at a brave new world in WWE, and I hope that happens. I’m picking either Cesaro or Bray Wyatt, and each of them would take WWE in a unique direction.

  • WWE Money in the Bank 2014 Preview and Predictions

The WWE’s brightest stars will attempt to cash in at this Sunday’s Money in the Bank pay-per-view. Two ladder matches will main event the program, with one being held to declare a new WWE World Heavyweight Champion. In addition, former champion Daniel Bryan will address the WWE Universe during the pre-show.

Here are my predictions for this Sunday’s event.

Summer Rae vs. Layla (Fandango Guest Referee)

    20140624_EP_LIGHT-SummerLayla_Homepage

I was never the biggest Fandango supporter, but I definitely thought he would be doing something bigger than referring a divas match a year ago. He has regressed over the past year and lost a lot of momentum. This will likely be the bathroom break match of the night, and Fandango will play a major role in the outcome, of course. Summer Rae will win this one by either rejoining Fandango or using him to influence the outcome of the contest before abandoning him.

    Winner: Summer Rae by pinfall

    Rusev vs. Big E

    20140627_EP_LIGHT-Match-Rusev-BigE_HOMEPAGE

These guys performed well together at last month’s Payback, even though they were given less than four minutes total. They will hopefully get a little more time during this one, allowing both superstars to showcase their strengths.

I think Rusev will ultimately win this one, but Big E will also look strong during the match. Big E cut a passionate promo on last week’s Raw, so it appears the WWE wants to showcase him a bit more. Both guys will look good, but Rusev will force Big E to tap out in the end.

    Winner: Rusev by submission

Stardust and Goldust vs. Ryback and Curtis Axel

    20140620_EP_LIGHT_Match_StardustGoldustRybackAxel_HOMEPAGE

The Rhodes Brothers storyline has been moving slowly over the past few months. It first looked as if the two brothers were going to feud with one another, with Cody searching for an adequate replacement because he felt Goldust deserved better.

He eventually rebranded himself as Stardust and the two have been on a winning streak ever since. They will continue to look strong on Sunday, picking up the win after Cody hits his Diamond Dust finisher on Curtis Axel.

Winner: Stardust and Goldust by pinfall

Spoiler: Two Main Events For WWE Battleground Leaked In Local Advertising

Early advertising for the WWE Battleground pay-per-view, which is the next show following Sunday’s Money In The Bank, has been released in the local Tampa market and may have already spoiled two of the matches planned for the show.

According to the ads in Tampa, Roman Reigns vs. Randy Orton and Seth Rollins vs. Dean Ambrose will be taking place at Battleground.

Also advertised to appear at Battleground are John Cena, Bray Wyatt, Kane, RVD, Sheamus, Cesaro, Big Show, Alberto Del Rio, Bad News Barrett and Kofi Kingston.

  • Steve Austin Predicts Next WWE Mega-Star, Talks Cesaro, Rollins, Reigns & More

The following are highlights of a recent Between The Ropes interview with “Stone Cold” Steve Austin:

Which WWE star would have the least difficult time on “The Broken Skull Challenge”: “I think Seth Rollins and Antonio Cesaro might be able to get through the course. But you know, they would have to get through the challenges first and had the competitions and then take on the course. It would be (laughs) very interesting to see Seth Rollins compete against Antonio Cesaro at the Broken Skull Challenge.”

Next mainstream star in WWE: “Whew, that’s a great question. There’s three guys who have big superstars written on them. I think Bray Wyatt is one of them, Cesaro is one of them, but when I got to mention the guy your asking for is Roman Reigns. He happens to be related to The Rock. Good looking kid, damn good worker in the ring, I want to know some more about his promos. But man, if I got to look at the roster right now and say whose my next megastar, his name is Roman Reigns.”

  • 5 Questions Heading into Money in the Bank

Money in the Bank is only a few days away, and it appears that the card is all but set. There are two ladder matches scheduled so fans can enjoy double the fun. Leading into the event, most questions have been answers, but a few still remain. Here are five questions that need to be answered heading into Money in the Bank.

    5. Should Big E Be Given More Time to Speak?

    big-e-langston-ses-4

This past week on Raw, Big E cut a rather passionate promo on Rusev. During his Intercontinental Title run, Big E was never really given an opportunity to connect with fans, leading many, including myself, to believe that his run with the title was stale.

However, after seeing him on Raw last week, I think that he could be one of the top superstars if booked properly. Instead of writing Big E cookie cutter promos that bore the fans, he should be given more time to speak freely and be himself as he did on Raw. If he had been given this opportunity while he still held the title, he could still be holding the strap today.

    4. Will Bad News Barrett Compete?

    bad-news-barrett-injured-at-smackdown-ses-1

Bad News Barrett was unfortunately the one receiving the bad news this week after separating his shoulder during a SmackDown taping. It seems that Barrett cannot avoid the injury bug, as he has been known to go down to injury at the worst possible times.

There has been no official announcement regarding his status for this Sunday’s pay-per-view, but it seems as if he will have to sit out while his fellow competitors attempt to win at shot at the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. One can only hope that he recovers quickly and gets back in the ring, especially considering how successful his latest push has been.

Vince Russo Says Vince McMahon Has Changed, Talks Booking Of Bray Wyatt

The following are highlights of a recent Wrestle Reaction interview with Vince Russo:

On thoughts of Vince McMahon’s loss of competitive edge: “In my opinion, the Vince McMahon before the purchase of WCW, was a different Vince McMahon. The Vince McMahon I worked for was a freakin killer. He would do anything to be number one. He would slice your throat, rip your eyes out, it didn’t matter. When I went back and met with him in 2002, he was a different guy. And I remember, I even said to Vince, where is your bravado? What happened? And I think once he was able to buy WCW, which I think was a tremendous goal of his, his ultimate goal. Everybody knows the history between him and Ted Turner. When that happened, there was nothing else. What else could Vince possibly combat and defeat in his life?! It’s like when a team wins the World Series, the next year they suck. Once you obtain that achievement, it’s downhill from there. I really think Vince lost a lot of his competitive edge when he bought WCW. Maybe add on 11 mins.”

On his reaction to Raw’s four-on-three main event booking: “The hottest guy they’ve got on that show right now is Bray Wyatt. You’ve got a tag team match of 7 guys out there. So, first of all, you’re making Bray Wyatt 1 of 7 guys. So now, all of a sudden, he’s like everyone else. He’s not special anymore. Then, to not give him the last entrance, to introduce Del Rio after him? I’m sorry bro but there’s no excuse for that. That’s creative 101. How do you not bring this guy out last? You kill the lights, have that effect in the crowd with all the (cell phone) lights, have the guy do something devastating off the bat. Where’s Vince on this? Where’s the great filter he was?”

On his thoughts on people blaming him for the fall of WCW: “Here’s what people don’t understand, and this is a shoot. The thing that always aggravates the crap out of me is that “I’m always making excuses for WCW”. When Ed (Ferrara) and I first started, the rating before that was a 2.9. 3 months later it was a 3.6. So right there, what am I making excuses for? We walked into a 2.9. When they decided they wanted a change, it was a 3.6. I don’t know what I’m making an excuse for. I was there for only 2 weeks, and that merger (AOL Time Warner) came down. 2 weeks I was on the job! And as soon as that merger came down, little by little, you knew that these guys did not want to be in the wrestling business. You knew where this thing was headed. We could’ve gotten the rating up to a 4, 5, or 6, it wouldn’t have mattered. They just didn’t want to be in the wrestling business. To blame me, or to blame Eric (Bischoff), or to blame Hulk (Hogan), it’s so ridiculous!”

You can watch the complete interview above.

  • WWE Money in the Bank: Potential Disappointment

One week from today, WWE’s annual Money in the Bank pay-per-view will be held in Boston, Massachusetts. The event has quickly become one of the most anticipated programs of the year, as it provides exciting action and sets up the storyline for months by allowing a WWE superstar to stalk his prey while holding a contract for a WWE World Heavyweight Championship match.

There will be two Money in the Bank ladder matches this year. One will be held for the vacant WWE World Heavyweight Championship, and the other will be a traditional contest for a shot at the title. The first contest will feature perennial title contenders such as John Cena, Randy Orton, Sheamus, and Alberto Del Rio, as well as up-and-coming stars such as Roman Reigns, Bray Wyatt, and Cesaro.

It seems like John Cena is once again the favorite to leave Boston as the champ.

It seems like John Cena is once again the favorite to leave Boston as the champ.

The second ladder match will feature Seth Rollins, with the rest of the lineup to be determined in a series of qualifying matches. Thus far, only three matches have been announced for the entire pay-per-view, and with only one week left before the event, one has to wonder how the WWE will tie everything together in such a brief period.

Other than the two ladder matches, a matchup between the Usos and Luke Harper and Erick Rowan of the Wyatt family is the only confirmed contest on the card. It seems apparent that Dean Ambrose will be one of the participants in the traditional ladder match. Potential options also include those who did not qualify for the championship ladder match, including Bad News Barrett, Dolph Ziggler, and Rob Van Dam.

The two ladder matches will soak up a large portion of the roster, meaning the midcard will have to pick up some slack in order to fill up the three hours of airtime. Rumored contests include Cody Rhodes and Goldust vs. RybAxel, Rusev vs. Big E, and a Divas Championship match involving Paige and all or part of the Funkadactyls.

Rumored Participants For Second MITB Match, Other MITB PPV Rumors

The main event for the June 29th WWE Money In The Bank pay-per-view will be the ladder match for the vacant WWE World Heavyweight Championship, which features John Cena, Roman Reigns, Randy Orton, Sheamus, Cesaro, Bray Wyatt and Alberto Del Rio. As noted recently, Cena or Reigns (and Cesaro as a long-shot) will likely come out on top, as the winner is the likely candidate for Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam.

Also confirmed for the 6/29 PPV is a WWE Tag-Team Championship match with The Usos defending against Luke Harper and Erick Rowan of The Wyatt Family.

The second ladder match, which was made official recently and will be for the usual Money In The Bank briefcase, as of right now only features Seth Rollins. Additional names rumored for the match include Dean Ambrose, Big E., Rob Van Dam, Bo Dallas, as well as Bad News Barrett and Dolph Ziggler, the latter two of which will either be part of that match or in an Intercontinental Championship match with each other.

Additionally, the direction for the WWE Divas Championship match at Money In The Bank seems to be Paige defending against Naomi of The Funkadactyls.

  • Jim Ross Blog: Stardust’s Debut, Bray Wyatt’s Character, Roman Reigns

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross has updated his blog, which you can read in its entirety at JRsBarBQ.com. Here are some highlights of what he said about:

Stardust’s Debut: “I like the duo of Goldust and Stardust and they have a significant upside. Too bad that they aren’t heels, and perhaps they will be in time, as the Usos are fan favorites like the Rhodes brothers and the two teams have the potential to have some great matches but the fans need a team to cheer and one to jeer….IMO. Nonetheless with one simple, creative move Monday night the tag team scene in WWE became topical and relevant.”

Bray Wyatt’s Character: “Bray Wyatt continues to be pushed as a ‘character baby face’ on RAW. His gritty and often times irreverent character is highly entertaining and allows the audience to systematically interact with him and seemingly gets more popular by the week. It’s only a matter of time until he’s changing jerseys IMO. Mentioning the name of the town that he’s in ala Mick Foley’s “Cheap POP” or Stone Cold’s “Give me a hell yeah!” plus the sing along to ‘He’s Got The Whole World in His Hands’ makes Bray fan friendly.”

The Development of Roman Reigns: “Roman Reigns is looking like the next ‘it’ guy, or so it seems, and I am completely fine with that. Great shine in the battle royal for the Samoan athlete and as I said months ago on the Ross Report Podcast, I’ve got Reigns winning the Rumble and then the WWE Title at WM31 and hopefully not before. WM31 is the only place to put Reigns on the desired pedestal. Plus, he is far from polished and that comes with time. In other words, I hope he isn’t rushed or force fed to the fans.”

There’s much more to this blog, including JR’s thoughts on the WWE World Heavyweight championship situation and several of his pet peeves about today’s wrestling landscape.

News On The Next WWE Champion, Why Ziggler Isn’t Getting Pushed, Foley Questions Bo Dallas

    – A new WWE World Heavyweight champion will be crowned in less than two week at the upcoming Money in the Bank pay-per-view. With 5 competitors already announced for the Money in the Bank ladder match, the general feeling in WWE is that a heel will be walking out as champion. So far, the villains who have qualified for the match include Cesaro, Randy Orton, Bray Wyatt and Alberto Del Rio.

    – One of the main reasons that Dolph Ziggler isn’t getting pushed is because his history of injuries and concussions. Shortly after capturing the World Heavyweight championship the night after WrestleMania 29, Ziggler suffered a concussion and has been in career limbo ever since.

Even if talent is over with fans and are solid in-ring workers, WWE is very hesitant to get behind them if they are injury prone and have taken extended time off.

    – WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley is questioning whether Bo Dallas’ character has the ability to get over with fans. He wrote on Facebook:

“As I mentioned a few days ago, I’m STARTING to become a #BoLiever – but I still have some questions about the Bo Dallas character. For example, how does it get REAL heat.”

Jim Ross Blog: Bray Wyatt Face Turn, Brodus Clay’s Release, Bo Dallas & More

The following are highlights from the latest Jim Ross blog:

On his upcoming Hall Of Fame MC gig: “Excited to head to Waterloo, Iowa July 18-19 for the annual National Wrestling Hall of Fame weekend at the Dan Gable Museum. All wrestling fans no matter amateur or pro should see the museum once in their life as it is truly fascinating and one of the bucket list days of my entire year. Randy Couture, The Steiner Brothers, DDP, Larry Hennig, Larry Matysik, For info on tickets to attend this weekend that includes a banquet, live, pro wrestling event, pro tryouts and the chance to meet the greats of the game you can call 319-233-0745 or visit them on Facebook. I will MC the banquet on Saturday July 19 and will also attend the pro wrestling event with WWE HOFer Jerry Brisco on Friday night July 18.”

On a Bray Wyatt face turn: “What do you think of Bray Wyatt being a character baby face after being turned on by Harper and Rowan who then become managed by Jake Roberts who builds his own faction?”

“Harper is a star in the waiting and the key to Rowan achieving a high level of success is him showing more animation and personality in the ring and being able to master a promo.”

On Bo Dallas: “Bo Dallas was the consummate, ivory snow baby face in NXT for a long, long time until the fans organically turned on him for being too goody-goody. The current incarnation of Bo Dallas isn’t as organic as what made him an antagonist in NXT but I hope it will eventually work for the young man’s sake. He’s a good kid who works hard and is a natural athlete. Only time will tell if this presentation clicks and the timing inasmuch as how long the persona is left to evolve and/or to tweak is critical.”

On Brodus Clay: “Brodus Clay always reminded me of the UWF version or the One Man Gang. Perhaps some day Brodus can see if my premonition actually is accurate. If Brodus can maintain a healthy, athletic weight so he can feed the comebacks approiately he has a shot at becoming a main event level heel IMO.”

  • Update On Cena’s Eye Injury: Wyatt Demoted In The Past For Similar Accident

As previously reported, John Cena suffered bad swelling due to a poke in the eye from Bray Wyatt during their “No Holds Barred” match at the WWE live event this past Saturday night in Madison, Wisconsin. By the time RAW rolled around on Monday night, the swelling had subsided substantially, however it was still noticeable. Regardless, Cena worked a match on the show and was a lot more involved compared to the previous night’s house show in Rochester, Minnesota, where he simply tagged in to score the pin during the finish of a six-man tag-team match where he, along with The Usos, took on The Wyatt Family.

The production crew was informed on Monday night not to shoot any closeup shots of Cena during the match, despite the fact that his eye — which was completely swollen shut during the weekend — was in much better shape.

A little known fact that relates to this story is that Wyatt, back when he was still performing as “Husky Harris,” accidentally poked Cena in the eye during a match, an incident that many believed to have resulted in him being demoted to the developmental system due to the fact that he “didn’t apologize enough” for the mistake.

    – It is expected that the “blockbuster announcement” that Triple H is hyping on Twitter for tonight’s RAW, which is expected to be Daniel Bryan being stripped of the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, will be opening tonight’s show.

    – Tonight’s show had to be re-written due to the situation surrounding Daniel Bryan and the upcoming WWE Money In The Bank pay-per-view.

    – The dark match main event for tonight’s show is advertised to be John Cena vs. Bray Wyatt, however with Cena’s eye issues, it’s possible that will change.

  • Update On The Severity Of John Cena’s Eye Injury

As noted, John Cena suffered a badly swollen eye during his match with Bray Wyatt at the WWE live event on Saturday night in Madison, Wisconsin. There was some concern that he had suffered a concussion, however that does not appear to be the case.

According to what WWE officials are saying, the eye injury occurred when Cena got poked in the eye by Wyatt, not a headbutt or stiff punch as originally expected.

On Sunday night, WWE switched the scheduled Cena vs. Wyatt “No Holds Barred” singles match to a six-man tag-team bout that featured Cena and The Usos against all three members of The Wyatt Family.

It appears that Cena did not suffer any orbital bone injuries, which was another concern the company had. Instead, the belief is that Cena simply suffered a swollen eye and all will be fine once the swelling goes away.
