  • Bully Ray Talks About Returning To WWE, Feuding With Lesnar-Heyman

Bully Ray spoke to Alex Obert of Journeyofafrontman.com about life after TNA, taking time off from the wrestling industry for the first time in 25 years, working with the Hardy Boyz in TNA and much more.

Here’s what Bully said about what’s next for him and the possibility of returning to WWE and a feud with Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman:

“What’s next or who’s next? (laughs) I don’t know what’s next, I’m just gonna let it happen. I am so happy with my career and what I have accomplished that if my career ended tomorrow, I could walk off into the sunset with a huge smile on my face. However, because of the success of the Bully Ray character, I’m hearing a lot of people clamoring for me to go back to the WWE to try to see if Bully Ray could do something over there.

Personally, I think I could. I think it’d be a lot of fun. If I were to go back to WWE either as Bully Ray by myself or to finish out my career with D-Von as Team 3D, I think both things could work. I think the fans, first and foremost, want to see it. They have been very active on Twitter and social media saying “We want Bully Ray in WWE” or “We want Team 3D back in WWE”. Like I said, if it’s right, maybe it’ll happen. But if it didn’t, I still go out with a huge smile on my face.

I tweeted last week that “I’m the 1 who can defeat the 1 who put the 1 in 21-1.” I’m confident in my ability in the ring and I’m confident in my ability on the mic. So from a physical standpoint, Bully versus Brock would be very interesting. And a verbal battle on the microphone, could you imagine Bully Ray and Paul Heyman?”

  • Bully Ray Calls Out Brock Lesnar, Rollins’ Plan To Grab The Brass Ring

    – Former WWE & TNA star Bully Ray tweeted the following on Monday night, calling out WWE World Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar:

Paul Heyman, the 1 behind the 1 who put the 1 in 21-1, responded:

    – Mr. Money in the Bank Seth Rollins tweeted the following late Monday night, perhaps in response to Vince McMahon talking about today’s WWE locker room not being as ambitious as the Superstars of the Attitude Era:

  • Video: Bully Ray Talks Potential WWE Return, Wrestling Lesnar & Cena

Bully Ray, who is currently a free agent, recently spoke with legendary wrestling journalist Bill Apter last weekend about his future in the business. Bully said he and Devon are currently working the independent scene, something they haven’t done in almost 20 years. They’re open to working in Japan or any of the larger wrestling promotions out there.

When asked about a potential return to WWE, Bully Ray said he listens to the fans when they say he could have a successful singles run with the company.

When asked who he’d want to work with in WWE, Bully said that’s up to the fans. Apter mentioned Brock Lesnar. Bully said that he wrestled Brock when Brock first started in WWE and was his first singles opponent at the live events and on TV. He seemed open to working with Lesnar, as well as John Cena.

  • Why Hasn’t WWE Tried Promoting A WCW Reunion Show?

    E-C-W! E-C-W! E-C-W!

The chants can still be heard today. In fact, WWE still capitalizes on those three letters to this very day.

For example, last Monday night after RAW, WWE premiered “ECW Exposed” on the WWE Network as part of a full “ECW Week” theme for their digital subscription service.

Next Tuesday night, a second edition of “ECW Exposed” is scheduled to air on the WWE Network.

Hell, this weekend, Tommy Dreamer will be presenting the seventh “House Of Hardcore” event, which is considered by many to be a show with the old “ECW feel” to it.

My question is this, why do we see so many ECW reunion shows, but no WCW reunion shows? I’m assuming it has a lot to do with dollars and cents.

For an ECW reunion show to be held, you need at least some of the following guys: Paul Heyman, Sabu, Tommy Dreamer, Taz, Bully Ray, Devon, Terry Funk, The Sandman, Rob Van Dam, Raven and Shane Douglas. Sure, there are many other names you can go with, but you need at least a few of those guys on the event for it to feel like a legitimate ECW reunion show.

For a WCW reunion show to be held, you need at least some of the following guys: Eric Bischoff, Ric Flair, Sting, Hulk Hogan, Goldberg, Kevin Nash, Scott Hall, Diamond Dallas Page, Lex Luger, Sid Vicious, Jeff Jarrett, Scott Steiner and Rick Steiner. Again, many names are missing, but the fact remains, the price tags of the key guys needed for an ECW reunion show versus the price tags for a WCW reunion show are world’s apart.

WWE has at different points in time had enough of the aforementioned WCW names under contract, and certainly has enough money to secure the stars they didn’t have at a particular point in time, to put together a legitimate WCW reunion show.

Outside of the financial side of putting together a reunion show for the former two biggest rival promotions to WWE, there is the financial side of how much these shows would generate.

When you compare the amount of DVDs sold between “The Rise & Fall Of ECW” and “The Rise & Fall Of WCW,” again you will notice that they are world’s apart.

When ECW went out of business in 2001 they were still a beloved promotion that just didn’t have the financial backing or television exposure to stay afloat. When WCW went out of business in 2001 they barely had a pulse.

The fan-base for ECW was a rabid, cult-like fan-base that loved their home-promotion dearly. The fan-base for WCW by the time the company folded in 2001 was practically nonexistent.

Still, it feels like there is enough WCW nostalgia for a reunion show to work. Anytime rumors circulate that claim WWE is in negotiations with Goldberg, Sting, or any of the other major names wrestling fans associate with WCW, there is a huge buzz. Fans are excited at the prospect of these guys coming into the current fold and squaring off against today’s crop of WWE Superstars.

Currently, there is a lot of interest in a Sting vs. Undertaker match at WrestleMania. There has been buzz in the recent past about a possible showdown between Goldberg and his modern-day carbon-copy Ryback. There’s even been a lot of interest in “The Hulkster” lacing up his red and yellow boots once more.

If WWE were to sign all of these guys, or ever considered the idea at any point in time, why is it out of the realm of possibility that a WCW reunion show would be a success? Personally, I think it would work, however, I think WWE wants the WCW legacy buried and forgotten, and wants the fans of today to only remember history the way Vince McMahon and company choose to portray it.

Ever watched the “Monday Night War” documentary series on the WWE Network? Right there is a perfect example of the WWE-version of history being told.

The fact is, ECW was never a close second to WWE. They definitely provided a template on how to change the wrestling product into something more modern that fans of that generation soaked up in droves. The fact remains, however, that WCW was kicking WWE’s ass for a lengthy period of time.

Prior to that, when WWE was the top dog, WCW was always nipping at their heels. NWA before WCW was at times a close-second to WWE, and for a long period of time was considered to have the better talent roster. Additionally, NWA would beat WWE in television ratings on a somewhat regular basis before fans really paid attention to TV ratings or considered them any legitimate measure of success, as was the case when the ratings became the focal point of the WWE vs. WCW “Monday Night Wars.”

Outside of WrestleMania once a year, WWE puts on pay-per-views that for the most part feel the same. Nothing seems special or different about them anymore, and the entire idea behind a pay-per-view is to put on an event that feels bigger and more unique than a typical weekly wrestling television program.

Unfortunately, current WWE pay-per-views just feel like a slightly better version of a solid edition of WWE RAW and/or WWE SmackDown, when the company should be striving to put on pay-per-views that feel like “must see” or “can’t miss” programming.

Something tells me if WWE were to book a WCW reunion pay-per-view, if they booked the right guys, it would generate a ton of interest and likely draw a solid buyrate. It would garner interest from fans who escaped the wrestling bubble and moved on with their lives back in 2001 when the only alternative to the WWE-style of wrestling went out of business.

Picture it guys — WCW One Night Stand!

I’d fork out $44.95 and spend three hours of a Sunday evening to watch it.

And something tells me many others would as well.

How about you? Would you be interested in buying a “WCW Reunion” pay-per-view event? Let us know by posting your feedback in the “Comments” section below. You can also connect with me directly on Facebook at Facebook.com/MattBooneWZR and/or on Twitter @MBoone420.

  • Bully Ray Blasts TNA On Twitter

Earlier today, we ran a report that TNA talent is “freaking out” over the lack of communication from management regarding the direction of the company and the ongoing negotiations to land a new TV deal for Impact Wrestling in 2015.

On Wednesday afternoon, TNA star Bully Ray took a not-so-subtle shot at “generals” who do not properly communicate with their “soldiers” –

  • Bully Ray Teases Fans That He’ll Be On One Of His Favorite Shows Live Next Monday Night

Bully Ray tweeted the following on Wednesday night, teasing that he’ll be appearing on one of his favorite shows live next Monday night – with the Dudley Boyz’ WWE theme music (“Bombshell”) blasting. This was the latest cryptic tweet from Bully, who has been saying it’s time for him and Devon to go after another set of their favorite tag team titles – leading many to believe he’ll be showing up in WWE sooner than later.

    https://twitter.com/REALBully5150/status/525092614002204672

As it turns out, Bully was just ribbing the fans, revealing after Impact that the big appearance he was teasing is actually Eddie Trunk’s Sirius XM radio show.

  • Backstage News On The Dudley Boyz Possibly Returning To WWE

It appears as though we have yet to see the last of Team 3D, formerly known as The Dudley Boyz, in WWE.

Recent reports suggest that there has been some movement on both ends to get both Bully Ray, formerly known as Bubba Ray Dudley, as well as Devon (formerly known as, well, D-Von) back into the biggest sports entertainment company on the planet.

Both Team 3D members were set to finish up with TNA after the Bound For Glory event, which aired this past weekend. Due to TNA’s budget limitations, it appears that even if the company lands a new cable television home, one of their biggest tag-teams (and in Bully Ray, one of the top individual stars) could be on their way out.

At the aforementioned Bound For Glory show, Bully Ray declared war on the “Bullet Club,” which is the top faction in the New Japan Pro Wrestling promotion. Additionally, he declared his interest in going after “another” set of titles, which many believe to be the NJPW belts.

If the two were to return to WWE, according to rumors circulating on the internet, it would likely take place after the two finish up their planned run in Japan. However, it does appear that there is strong interest from both WWE, as well as Bully Ray and Devon, to see the Dudley Boyz finally make their way back to WWE.

Bully Ray tweeted the following on Wednesday night after Impact, teasing that he and Devon are indeed finishing up with TNA soon.

  • Strong Signs TNA Isn’t Sure Of New Deal, Uncertainty Heading Into 2015

Apparently many people within TNA are confident that the company will continue to operate after their Spike TV deal expires heading into 2015. The main issue right now is what kind of company they will be. Some are under the impression that they will become a bare-bones skeleton company, while others feel they will be a top-level indie style company such as Ring Of Honor. There are others, however, who feel TNA will continue running as they have been, budget-wise.

There is some talk that claims more permanent budget cuts will be brought on by TNA’s new deal, some that could really change TNA as we know it.

The fact that top-level talents such as Bully Ray and Samoa Joe were not offered any kind of significant deals is considered a strong sign that TNA is not willing to bank on the idea that next year with a new network is a guarantee.

Bully Ray is at the TNA Impact Wrestling television tapings tonight in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania for the shows that are being taped to air as the final two shows leading into this year’s Bound For Glory pay-per-view.

Davey Richards is also working the tapings, meaning his leg injury has healed enough to the point that he can work again.

The impression given right now is that The Wolves vs. The Hardy Boys vs. Team 3D will be taking place as a “Full Metal Mayhem” match either at tonight’s tapings or at the Bound For Glory show.

  • Jeff Hardy Allowed In Japan For Bound For Glory?, More On Bully Ray/TNA

    – Although the original belief was that due to his felony conviction, Jeff Hardy would not be allowed into Japan for this year’s TNA Bound For Glory pay-per-view. Apparently that is not the case and that if both TNA and Hardy were interested in having him work the Bound For Glory show, he should be able to.

    – There’s a belief among some of TNA talent that the company have made an offer to get Bully Ray to return and finish out the tag-team series with The Wolves and The Hardy Boys. As we noted on Sunday, Bully Ray is now being advertised to appear at Bound For Glory.

  • Trish Stratus Says Bully Ray Almost Inducted Her Into WWE Hall Of Fame, More

Former WWE Diva Trish Stratus recently spoke with Slam! Wrestling and revealed that Bully Ray was one of the people considered as the person who would induct her into the WWE Hall Of Fame.

“I think fans would be surprised to know that Bubba Ray Dudley [TNA’s Bully Ray] was on the list,” said Trish. “He’s on it because he was kind of giving me a trust/tough love when I first came in. But once I proved myself to him, he really opened up and was really kind and giving and would advise me on a lot of things.”

Stratus continued, “So when we finally worked together, once he saw that I was willing to take the table and I used to tell him: ‘Don’t protect me, don’t go easy on me, I just want to do it and do it good and make the fans proud,’ and he appreciated that. So we’ve became really close friends and we had a great relationship and he really helped me a lot.”

  • Update On Bully Ray’s TNA Status, More Rumored Matches For Bound For Glory

As we noted recently, there is a good chance that The Great Muta and Tajiri vs. Sanada and James Storm will take place at the TNA Bound For Glory pay-per-view in Japan. Also rumored for Bound For Glory this year is Low Ki vs. Samoa Joe for the TNA X-Division Championship and The Wolves vs. Team 3D for the TNA Tag-Team Championship in a “Full Metal Mayhem” match.

With Bully Ray’s future in TNA uncertain, one would wonder how a Team 3D match at Bound For Glory would be possible, however there are some who believe that he is not done with the company and that he may actually appear at next week’s TNA tapings in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.

  • EC3 Talks Bully Ray Leaving TNA, Bound For Glory In Japan, TNA In NYC & More

The following are highlights of a new Main Event Radio interview with Ethan Carter III:

TNA in New York City: “Being in the ring at the Manhattan Center, I love it. I love the crowd because they loathe me. Just having that atmosphere, the interaction with people really drives me to perform. It’s a lot of fun…and I hope that the crowd had a lot of fun sending jeers, throwing bags of urine or whatever they were shooting at me.”

Dixie Carter going through a table: “No matter how long I’ve been in the industry, I was finally a part of a compelling story that had a clear beginning and end, a culmination, and a pay-off. It was pretty rewarding to be a part of that. We gave the people what they wanted and they got it and now we have to give them something else to sink their teeth into.”

Bully Ray possibly departing: “Honesty, being in the ring with Bully was some of the most fun I’ve had. Beating him at Slammiversary was quite a breakout moment for me. If he were to leave TNA, I would hope to personally take him out. I’d love to keep him around.”

Bound for Glory coming up: “I got to go to Japan about a month and a half ago with Wrestle-1. I teamed with Rockstar Spud and got to wrestle against Tajiri, going full-circle for me being a huge fan of ECW growing up to go there and wrestle him in Japan. Unfortunately, we lost but it was a great experience and quite hilarious seeing Rockstar Spud squirming from being green misted. As far as match possibilities, it will be interesting to see where we go. Being in Japan where it’s not going to be the same environment with people not as in tune with the stories going on. I would love to go to Japan and defeat Kurt Angle if he is healthy and if his knee is ok. He is the cyborg, he’s training really hard. He continues to be a thorn in my side, and he seems to be in the right path to health. So hopefully he will be cleared to be in the ring and I can beat a healthy Kurt Angle.”

Where he would like to go next: “With the culmination of Dixie Carter going through a table, it’s time for EC3 to move forward solo and take the reins of the company. The next step after BFG, my complete focus will be becoming champion. Bobby Lashley has taken the ball and ran with it completely. What he’s done on TV in the coming weeks – his match with Bobby Roode was off the charts. That would be my next goal – TNA Champion no matter who I have to beat even if it is the Destroyer.”

  • Rockstar Spud Talks About Bully Ray Telling The TNA Locker Room He’s Leaving

The following are highlights of a new Alternative Nation interview with TNA star Rockstar Spud:

On Bully Ray telling the TNA locker room that he’s leaving the company: “Well I wasn’t personally there, because I was in England filming British Boot Camp 2, and helping out with that process. If someone like Bully Ray has to depart from the company, that really does suck, because he brings a tremendous amount to the company, in a backstage role and an on screen role. I’ve said this in interviews before, if Hulk Hogan was around in the 80?s and so was Bully Ray, there wouldn’t be a Hulk Hogan because Bully Ray would have knocked him out of the park.”

On what a loss it is to TNA for Bully Ray to go: “Because Bubba has that connection with the audience, whether you love or hate him, he can connect, and get inside your soul (chuckles), you know what I mean? It would be a tremendous loss if Bully Ray had to depart from TNA, but let’s see who is going to step up and take that place. This is the wrestling business, when one opportunity falls away, it’s another opportunity for somebody else. So it would be good to see who steps up from there, but if he leaves the company, would I be disappointed? Absolutely, but like I said, it would be interesting to see who stepped into that role.”

  • EC3 Talks Bully Ray Leaving TNA, Vince Russo, Locker Room Leaders

Ethan Carter III did an interview with AlternativeNation.net to promote TNA Impact Wrestling moving to Wednesday Nights on Spike. Here are some highlights of what he said about:

Bully Ray’s Rumored Farewell Speech To The TNA Locker Room:

“There was a talk, it wasn’t that he’s leaving, it was more of: ‘If I don’t see you guys in a minute.’ But who is to say? I think it was more, [of a] precautionary [talk], who knows?”

When He Found Out About Vince Russo Being A Consultant For TNA:

“I never knew he was working as a consultant, so I can’t really answer that. But I do appreciate his kind words, as a guy who has seen a bunch of stars, especially guys like Austin and The Rock, rise [to the top]. To have him say anything kind about me is a compliment, but compliments are compliments, and that helps your confidence grow, but you just got to keep doing what you’re doing. I wish I had time to talk to him, because who knows what I could learn from him.”

    Bound For Glory From Japan:

“It’s going to be a different kind of audience, that’s maybe not as invested story wise as they will be with the action in the ring. We have that benefit that we can just go out there and have 8 to 9 killer matches in front of a respectful Japanese crowd. It will be a very different presentation from what we’ve seen in the past, so that will be interesting.”

The Locker Room Leaders In TNA:

“Bobby Roode, Samoa Joe, Eric Young, guys like that, that have been tenured here. James Storm, Mr. Anderson, guys of that nature. People who have been in the industry for awhile, but have contributed here very successfully.”

  • Backstage Update On Bully Ray Parting Ways With TNA

Apparently people close to Bully Ray were caught off guard and had no idea that his contract with TNA was expiring. His deal with the company is up this coming weekend, making him free to negotiate with anyone he chooses.

As noted recently, Ray held a meeting backstage at a TNA event to basically say his “goodbyes” to friends and co-workers, as he expected that he wouldn’t be re-signing with the company.

  • Update On TNA’s Negotiations With Spike TV

There continues to be a lot of uncertainty in TNA regarding the company’s longterm outlook as it relates to the Spike TV negotiations.

Following the news that Bully Ray would be leaving TNA soon when his contract expires, it’s believed that TNA will be holding off on re-signing main event stars until they strike a TV new deal.

As a result, we could see more top TNA talent departing in the coming months.

Impact Wrestling moved to Wednesday night earlier this week and the show did one of the lowest ratings for TNA in years, with a 0.65 rating and only 852,000 viewers. The performance of Impact on Wednesdays will be a big factor in TNA’s negotiations with Spike TV.
