Chelsea Green Challenges Cardi B After Historic WWE Title Win

Chelsea Green is embracing her role as the first-ever WWE Women’s U.S. Champion, and the self-proclaimed “Hot Mess” is already setting her sights on a major celebrity challenge: Cardi B. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Green humorously declared herself the “longest-reigning champion of all time” before throwing down the challenge to the rap superstar.

While Cardi B has yet to step inside a WWE ring, her relationship with the company spans years. In 2021, Cardi’s hit song served as the SummerSlam theme, though plans for her in-ring appearance were scrapped after she announced her pregnancy. Recently, Cardi teamed up with Bianca Belair to promote SummerSlam 2025, which will take place at MetLife Stadium.

Green captured the Women’s U.S. Title at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event, defeating Michin in the finals of a 12-woman tournament. The Canadian-born star overcame Bianca Belair and Blair Davenport in the first round before besting Bayley in the semi-finals. Notably, this isn’t the first time the Hot Mess has had Cardi B in her sights.

Celebrity involvement in WWE has been a long-standing tradition, and a potential showdown between Chelsea Green and Cardi B would undoubtedly generate significant mainstream attention. For now, Green continues to celebrate her historic championship win—and, as she humorously points out, her record-setting reign as WWE Women’s U.S. Champion.

WWE’s Interest in Cardi B

WWE’s first major attempt to involve Cardi B dates back to 2021. At the time, the company wanted to use her song for that year’s SummerSlam event, with plans for her to make a live appearance.

Unfortunately, those plans were scrapped when Cardi became pregnant in June 2021, putting a hold on the collaboration. Alongside Cardi, WWE also sought involvement from stars like Megan Thee Stallion and Mike Tyson for the event, showcasing their desire to bring in mainstream celebrities?.

Cardi B’s Recent WWE Involvement

Fast forward to 2024, and WWE’s persistence has finally paid off. Cardi B is now featured prominently in the trailer for SummerSlam 2025, WWE’s first-ever two-night SummerSlam event. Cardi B Celebrates WWE SummerSlam In NYC With Bianca Belair

AEW may have had New York City last night as the host of Grand Slam, but WWE will take a bite out of the Big Apple next summer. On Thursday, WWE announced that the company will have a full weekened residence at MetLife Stadium on August 2 and August 3.

WWE released a press release breaking the news, but they also put together a promotional spot featuring Bianca Belair and hip-hop sensation Cardi B. In the video, Bianca gets a phone call and it’s Cardi on the other line and the package features one of her songs. Cardi B posted on X to share her excitement for the news and offered the following comment.

“Here’s to the Streets.. and to my girl Bianca Belair! SummerSlam. 2Nights. MetLife Stadium. August 2nd and 3rd”

WWE has been making the most of their wrestlers and their ties to rap artists who are also wrestling fans. Just two weeks ago, Megan Thee Stallion was revealed to be the new musical voice of the WWE SmackDown intro. Stallion even took to social media to tease a potential debut for WWE down the line.

The ironic aspect of these specific artists hitching their wagon to WWE is that both stars are admirers of Mercedes Mone who is neck deep in a massive contract with AEW. While on The Breakfast Club earlier this week, Mone revealed that there were match plans with Stallion, but now that she’s with AEW those plans are off. Surprisingly enough, Mone was not a presence on AEW Grand Slam.

Chelsea Green Wanted To Wrestle Cardi B In ‘Chelsea’s Got Talent’ Pay-Off

Chelsea Green and Sonya Deville were going strong as WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions. Then a devastating knee injury took Deville out for the count. Cardi B is on the bucket list for a few WWE Superstars, and it seems that Chelsea Green also wanted to take on the WAP rapper.

“If I’m being honest. I wanted Cardi B. If I couldn’t get Cardi B, I wanted to wrestle Cardi B. There was just so many good options in Chelsea’s Got Talent. What I really liked is that we saw people from all over. We did see main roster talent and announcers. We saw Cathy Kelly. We saw R Truth, but we also saw really amazing NXT talent that people hadn’t really seen yet. Karmen from NXT auditioned. We saw reality stars, like Heidi Montag from The Hills. So it could have been anyone and I hadn’t decided yet. It was only just the preliminary rounds. Nobody made it to the semifinals and the finals.”

Cardi B & WWE

Carbi B was rumored to be a part of SummerSlam a couple of years ago, because they used “Up” as the official song. Those plans were nixed when she revealed during the 2021 BET Awards that she was pregnant. That took her out of the running to make the trip for WWE.

Although Cardi B hasn’t taken part in any WWE events yet, that idea is not dead. Her recent social media activity against her soon-to-be ex-husband Offset has rivaled the most heated WWE promos we can think of.

What’s Next For Chelsea Green In WWE

Chelsea Green and Piper Niven lost the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles to Katana Chance and Kayden Carter during the December 18th episode of WWE RAW. Odds are, Green will try to get those titles back, because she has already initiated a social media campaign to get justice for that loss.

Her recent hit “Hot Sh*t” pays homage to the late Jimmy Superfly Snuka, and got her conversing online with Snuka’s daughter Tamina, as well as Natalya. Another of Cardi’s hit songs, “Up,” was used as the theme for SummerSlam 2021 from Las Vegas.

Cardi, who has tagged the promotion in the past, was both super excited and a bit angry, that her WWE ‘debut’ came in such a backhanded way.

Cardi’s tweets received a response from WWE Superstar Lacey Evans which lead to the two having a spicy exchange of tweets, some of which have been deleted.

With the mainstream buzz and success of Bad Bunny around WrestleMania 37, it’s clear that WWE would want to bring in more pop icons to build engagement on social media and mainstream appeal. Top WWE Executive: We Want Cardi B

WWE wants to work with pop music superstar Cardi B.

Nick Khan, WWE’s President and Chief Revenue Officer, recently spoke to Forbes about the business side of the company.

During the discussion, Khan addressed WWE utilizing celebrities to generate additional interest in the product. In recent weeks, we’ve seen rap star Bad Bunny involved in storylines.

There’s also been some buzz about WWE working with Cardi B. Khan confirmed WWE wants to work with the “WAP” singer in the near future. “Obviously, there is no touring right now,” he said. “The ability to get Bad Bunny for however long this run is going to be, and you’re going to see a lot of him; I don’t believe that would have existed in a world where Bad Bunny was on tour.”

The Covid-19 pandemic has forced WWE to adapt the way it does business in many ways. The silver lining is that it has also created the opportunity to work with big names from the entertainment industry, since they’re less busy and not on tour.

“We’re always going to want Bad Bunny, Cardi B to get involved,” Khan continued. “It made it a touch easier to get a deal done this time because they weren’t, over the course of however long the deal is, is not in 25 different cities during that time. The bulk of concert money is made in the summertime. It doesn’t appear as if there are going to be big tours during the summer. Even we’re all hopeful, so we’ll see what folks we’re talking to and who you’ll see in the mix.”

Cardi B was recently name dropped during the RAW Legends Night episode. This lead to several back and forth exchanges between Cardi B and several WWE Superstars, including Trish Stratus and Lacey Evans.

Whether WWE will be able to bring the hip-hop megastar into the fold remains to be seen; although she would be a major name to bring in for a WrestleMania appearance. Bad Bunny will already be performing at WrestleMania, and it is rumored that he will be teaming with Booker T or Damian Priest to take on The Miz and John Morrison in a tag team bout.
